Nicolas Cage gave some solid answers in this interview. Despite his "crazy, out there persona" people associate with him, he is actually quite intelligent which speaks to his brilliance as an Actor/Thespian.
The only people that believe his crazy out there persona are kids that grew up on the memes and misunderstood them. Nicolas Cage is an Oscar winning actor that was a world wide mega star praised by every co worker and director from Scorsese to John Woo. From John Travolta to Sean Connery.
@@lightup6751 he's really solid all around and I just recently watched "Face/Off" and that premise is iconic and I thought both John Travolta and Nicolas Cage knocked it out of the park. It completely silenced Colbert. People often think Nic Cage is an idiot because he plays one so convincingly, but he is extremely intelligent and well versed in film , I mean his uncle is Francis Ford Coppola for goodness sake
Nicolas Cage is very much in his own league. There's something so charismatic about him that makes him stand out among his peers. An actor (sorry, Thespian!) with the ability to morph his talents for character acting into so many tiers of film, from Blockbuster to Indie and everything in between. I discovered Nicolas Cage when I first watched The Rock (the movie on Alcatraz). The Sean Connery + Nicolas Cage duo was excellent and the suspense was on point. Loved it. After that I'd say Face Off also was amazing.
I don’t think so. He was always well spoken, knowledgeable and interesting. It’s likely only people that grew up on the memes that misunderstood them. He was always an interesting and Oscar winning actor praised by Scorsese himself
Back in the day Nick Cage worked as a parking lot attendent and his buddy John who was a guitar player who came to LA to start a career in music stopped by and they were talking about how John was so broke and Nick told John that there was a casting for a role and John was like "nah man, I don't know anything about acting I'm a musician" and Nick basically told him "it's worth a shot what's the worst that can happen?" and needing the money John was convinced and checked it out, we know know that guitar player as Johnny Depp, the musician who got lost on the way to band practice and accidentally became a famous actor. And now you know, the rest of the story.

Never a boring dull interview with Nicolas Cage, love his laid back cool eccentric quirky nuance yet classy and captivating sophistication. Crazy wild dark sarcastic sense of humour and love his laughter/ giggle. He is 💯 a thespian and king/ lord of Hollywood, pop culture classic cinema. So great of Stephen to ask what his top 5 films are, I can’t pick just that number, there are so many. He is the only reason I will be watching this, him as Dracula is in a league all his own.
As a former co-dependant, and child of a narcissist, who has had a lot of therapy and loves horror-comedy, this movie was a gas. It was fun, and it was over the top in the best places. It was also hella triggering (in a cathartic manner), and its absolutely one of my new top 5s. They touched on the subjects carefully and still got into that beautiful dark humour the traumatised are in love with. My partner and I laughed our asses off throughout, and I demand Nick Cage get an Oscar for his performance. He was so beautifully snide and over-the-top condescending in the most accurate-to-a-narcissist I've seen in a while. The tone and humour in it made the flashbacks easier to deal with 😂😂
This interview, in 3 or 4 parts, sadly, is one of the best late show interviews I have ever watched. Nicolas Cage has become, like Richard Harris and Peter O'Toole, and some other of the other old time great stars of cinema, a brilliant raconteur. Why some dimwitted critics mock him is beyond me, but a lot of American culture is so lowbrow now. He is absolutely fascinating. And the little preview of his latest movie, where he plays Dracula arriving at a group therapy session for codependents is mesmerizing. Nicolas Cage is a hipster, a real one, they are rare now. I bit of a crush here....
A friend and I are making our way through every Nic Cage movie and it has been a phenomenal ride The good, the mediocre, and the bad are all amazing to see with this guy - a highly dedicated professional
There’s always been a certain charm about him that I always loved and I think people see it too. This movie looks like a fun ride. For Stephen to have him on the show is high praise! Edit: Renfield was good.
he can do a low budget crapfest one minute and a masterpiece the next. guy's filmography is unrivaled. all other actors take a risk once in a while, nic cage takes bold swing with every project.
love Cage's performances. He always adds. But my favorite of all it's his kick ass character as a father. It really made me emotional how the character just was always worried about his daughter to be prepared for what is coming.
I don't care if he's crazy, I like Nic Cage. And I'm glad he mentioned Vampire's Kiss, as it's possibly the first movie I saw him in and one of my favourites.
wow, I can't describe enough how much I love Nick Cage as an actor. He looks like a good man too. all the passion and how fast he responded to those answer shows how honest and know what's he doing and love what's he doing in his work. I love The Rock, Face Off, and ConAir. I will be finding and seeing all of his films!!
That is such a brilliant film. He and Pedro Pascal are absolutely, delightfully hilarious together! That scene where they take LSD had me laughing so hard that my stomach hurt!💖
Yes!!!! That movie is delightful!! I was so happy for Pedro when Nic mentioned American Werewolf in London, because in an interview Pedro said that's a favorite of his❤
One of my all-time favorite actors. He stood out from the very beginning and evolved graciously through his movies. Nothing about him is pretentious. Yeah, Face/Off top five for me, too, as Stephen pointed out. The Cage/Travolta combo was unique, priceless. 🔥🔥🔥
1.) Gone in 60 seconds 2.) Face Off 3.) National Treasure 4.) Con Air/Snake Eyes (tie) 5.) ... literally any of the cheesy c-rated, low budget Netflix movies made in the last 15 years that are excellent for background noise and laughs 😂
He's made such a large variety of movies, it's like going to a buffet regarding picking his movies, I love the variety he has made. I can pick something from his venue of what I'm in the mood for easily :) Can't say I love every single thing he made, but there is such a huge variety to choose from. Can't wait to go see Renfield, looks hilarious! Love the movie being taken from his servant's side of the story, should be good I hope.
@NicolasCageprivatte for a Very long time! Love the recent vampire movie! Your an excellent Vampire! Ty for making me laugh! Sorry didn't see this until now.
The National Treasure movies were an absolute favourite of mine growing up I can't imagine how amazing those must have been to people of the country there are at least two generations of competitive quizzers in my country who had a fire lit in them by those movies. I've seen The Rock, Con Air and Gone in 60 seconds so many times. Stuck with Ghost Rider mostly cause he was in it. However what I most look forward to is the nonexistent hope that one day there might be a sequel to The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
He's a great actor who has been in many classic films but he has also been in some really bad ones. He does soo many movies, they cant all be winners... IMO what makes him bad in some movies and good in others is the same thing, he takes chances with his roles. Sometimes they just dont land but other times they are extremely memorable. The people who clown on him only look at the cringy, poor performances and not the good ones. The thing is that he is good way more than he is bad and thats part of what makes him a legendary actor IMO.
The brilliance of Cage is that he may come across as pretentious but you would be mistaken to think he isn’t a professional actor. He researches it and appreciates on a high intellectual level. Cannot stop loving him.
I am glad he cane back. After years of bad movies and bad decisions. He was very much off of A list celebs. No one called him for any talk shows. This was so refreshing. Everyone deserves a second chance.
not only is a great actor but he's a genius promoter and advertising man as well...he named the most obscure films most people have never even heard of as his top five nick cage films.
I love so many of his films and the more recent ones have certainly been brilliant: Mandy, Pig, The Unbearable Weight. I’m really looking forward to Renfield💖🤩
My favorite Nick Cage movie is Red Rock West. If you haven't seen it, it is great. It is a neo- western and also stars Dennis Hopper and JT Walsh. Also Face/Off. And Con Air makes no claims to being a good film, is ridiculously good fun.

I think Taratino should make a role for him..
*Tarantino
Tarantino is in trouble now for sexual assault, so I’d be surprised if anyone popular to be in his movies anymore..

A friend and I are making our way through every Nic Cage movie and it has been a phenomenal ride
The good, the mediocre, and the bad are all amazing to see with this guy - a highly dedicated professional
There’s always been a certain charm about him that I always loved and I think people see it too. This movie looks like a fun ride. For Stephen to have him on the show is high praise!
Edit: Renfield was good.
Thanks for your continuous love and support. ❤️
For how long have you been a fan of mine?
face/off for the win everytime!
he can do a low budget crapfest one minute and a masterpiece the next. guy's filmography is unrivaled. all other actors take a risk once in a while, nic cage takes bold swing with every project.
And always entertains in both
love Cage's performances.
There is always method to the Cage madness

Bro I wish Nicolas cage taught an acting class I would go to it every day
Vampire's Kiss was great. He could have filed for bankruptcy, but he chose to work his ass off and pay off his debts.
wow, I can't describe enough how much I love Nick Cage as an actor. He looks like a good man too. all the passion and how fast he responded to those answer shows how honest and know what's he doing and love what's he doing in his work. I love The Rock, Face Off, and ConAir. I will be finding and seeing all of his films!!
Nicolas Cage might really be a vampire, dude looks GREAT for his age.
Money does that. Sheesh.
Blood magic, everyone who is someone does it. ❤
Hair plugs…
You can tell Nick Cage really cares about his craft, love to see it.
My favorite film of his is The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
That is such a brilliant film. He and Pedro Pascal are absolutely, delightfully hilarious together! That scene where they take LSD had me laughing so hard that my stomach hurt!💖
So good
Yes!!!! That movie is delightful!! I was so happy for Pedro when Nic mentioned American Werewolf in London, because in an interview Pedro said that's a favorite of his❤
@@JadeValour hahaha, yeah. I want to take LSD with Pedro Pascal and Nicolas Cage.
That was soooo good!
I honestly didn't see that ending coming!
One of my all-time favorite actors. He stood out from the very beginning and evolved graciously through his movies. Nothing about him is pretentious. Yeah, Face/Off top five for me, too, as Stephen pointed out. The Cage/Travolta combo was unique, priceless. 🔥🔥🔥
He ,Christopher Walken , Michael Caine are my favorite workaholic off beat actors
All brilliant!
I loved that he talked about Vampires Kiss. He's truly unhinged in that and it's a crazy ass performance. Love him!
Thanks for your continuous love and support. ❤️
For how long have you been a fan of mine?
Nicholas Cage is a whole lotta moods and I am always here for it!

I forgot about snake eyes lol...Next is a cool movie too!
What a legend.
Thanks for your continuous love and support. ❤️

@NicolasCageprivatte for a Very long time! Love the recent vampire movie! Your an excellent Vampire! Ty for making me laugh! Sorry didn't see this until now.
Always have and always will love Nick Cage ❤ also check out that suit! He has kind of a modern goth Vincent Price vibe. Love it.
Thank you for the love and support.Tell me how long you have been my fan ❤❤
This is actually a very objective list of top 5 Nick Cage movies.
A little Indiana Jones for a later generations.
This is insulting. People treat Cage poorly all the time. He's a good actor.
My favorite: Moonstruck
Nick Cage being Nick Cage is so Nick Cage. I'm here for it.
Ghost rider was my first cage movie and still enjoy it regardless of what people think
I'm with you, I can't remember how many times I've seen it but it never gets old!😊😊😊
I don't understand why it gets so much hate. I enjoy it still
MCU before MCU.
It's my brother's favourite movie.
And I love it too
So glad he mentioned Vampire's Kiss. That movie rocks and is really underappreciated.
The brilliance of Cage is that he may come across as pretentious but you would be mistaken to think he isn’t a professional actor. He researches it and appreciates on a high intellectual level. Cannot stop loving him.
Nick Cage as Nick Cage in a Nick Cage movie about a Nick Cage character doing Nick Cage things: Cageception. I'm in.
I’m so glad Nicholas Cage is back where he belongs!
Horror that is humorous and deeply disturbing
You look fantastic!
Fun interview 😂😮❤❤
*Nicolas
I am glad he cane back. After years of bad movies and bad decisions. He was very much off of A list celebs. No one called him for any talk shows.
This was so refreshing. Everyone deserves a second chance.
Adaptation will always be my favorite Nicolas Cage movie!
Same!
the best!!!
This is a master class by Colbert in interviewing. He gets him to open up with psychological precision.
Nicolas CAGE Is efortlessly hilarious
not only is a great actor but he's a genius promoter and advertising man as well...he named the most obscure films most people have never even heard of as his top five nick cage films.
The Rock, Con-Air, FACE OFF, National Treasure 1... these are some Nick Cage movies that are my favorite. 😊
I wish he came out in the same priest outfit as Face off and did the same dance routine.
I love so many of his films and the more recent ones have certainly been brilliant: Mandy, Pig, The Unbearable Weight. I’m really looking forward to Renfield💖🤩
Thank you for the love and support.Tell me how long you have been my fan ❤❤
My favorite Nick Cage movie is Red Rock West. If you haven't seen it, it is great. It is a neo- western and also stars Dennis Hopper and JT Walsh.
Also Face/Off. And Con Air makes no claims to being a good film, is ridiculously good fun.
Very underrated movie
I can't wait for the Nicolas Cage Colbert Questionaire
I love entertainment history lessons with Nicolas Cage.
He's so entertaining.
