After watching "A defense of Nicholas Cage" and his interpretation of how Nicholas cage is like, I think it's pretty spot on. He really is a down to earth guy
It's not the media...it's the video supercuts of his most outrageous acting moments. People then think he's all just that, but it isn't. He has great, quiet moments in films well like National Treasure or Matchstick Men. Those don't get the clicks like his outrageous moments do.
I love that he gets into these new ideas and niche interests and just goes all in with it for a little while and it's like everything then he kinda moves on to the next thing that catches his interest. It's really cute and endearing to see someone allow themselves to be so enthusiastic about whatever it is they're into at the moment and eager to share about it. Even when asked about some random thing he's mentioned being into like building model rockets or the shaman acting thing and writing that book, he's just like "uhhh yeah, that's something I was really into for a while...." You can tell he's no longer at full intensity with that interest anymore but still keeps it tucked away on a shelf with the others and maybe he'll come back to it. Sort of like how my real hobby/interest is actually just collecting new hobbies and interests.
I'm very happy he had a platform to clear some air. I've always loved Nic Cage and I'm glad he had a chance to represent himself and relveal some of the man behind the mythology. I could have had 20 minutes of this though hahaha
My uncle worked with him on National Treasure. He said you could tell that he was the type of actor that did it because he loved it and had fun doing it, not to impress anyone or throw around “celebrity” status.
"I like the vampire one right off that bat. This early picture of me.. I like that because it's an early black and white picture." HE JUST CONFIRMED THE MAN IN THE 140-YEAR-OLD PHOTO IS INDEED NICHOLAS CAGE HIMSELF.
Even though people say he’s a little crazy he does actually seem like a really nice guy. The kind of guy you could see in a bar and strike up a random conversation with just because you’re both there at the same time.
The thing i love the most about these videos is that you learn that not everything is as it seems. For example, the teeth pulling part, about Nick Cage makes him seem like an amazing / crazy method actor. When you then hear that they had to go out anyway, it brings everything a little more into perspective.
The fact that he doesn't feel that it is method acting enough to be consider method acting because it was just baby teeth that had to come out is the most method actor thing he could possibly say.
My favorite thing about these Cage answering our questions videos is that some of the outrageous things said about him were made up but so much of it is true and he explains it to you like it's a normal day at the office.
He was one of my Aunts clients when he lived in Vegas. She framed his artwork. She told me he's a very genuine guy, and he's exactly the way you'd expect him to be eccentric, and odd alot of the time.
28 now, growing up everyone loved Nic. Until around high school everyone clowned you if you liked him. Glad to see he is getting the love he deserves now!
That is so odd. This whole video I thought he was just as strange as I imagined him and acted like a prototypical celebrity. Not that it's a bad thing, he is hella interesting and I would watch a 3 hour version of this Q&A. Only a rich celebrity can say sentences like "yea, I gave the trex skull to the Mongolian government" and only an oddball would say "yes, the rumors are true, I pulled out two baby teeth".
I thought the exact opposite. He seemed smug, wrapped in himself. 3:24 see how he answers no quick and without looking or considering the interlocutor? yuk. No one does that. Same at 5:23. He acts NOTHING like a ''normal'' person.
I love Nic Cage, I have truly come to respect him over the years cuz he stopped doing roles simply for money a long time ago, he is one the very few actors that simply does whatever he likes and I respect that so much
I love Nic Cage as well, a phenomenal actor, but actually the last 11 movies he has done were very low in salary and were all for the money due to back taxes he owed the IRS which in reality is just a non-governmental Mafia stealing his money and everyone elses as well!
As I’ve aged (54) I’ve developed much more respect for Mr. Cage as an actor and person. 8mm was a fantastic movie, one of his best. He seems like a really cool and down to earth guy. The fact that he’s a little clueless about Social Media makes me like him even more. I’m sorry his Superman movie was never made. I know he’s a huge fan. I think he would have done a good job and respected and honored the character and legacy of Superman. The problem with so many Superhero movies is they’re not being made by people who have a Love and passion for the characters. Mr. Cage seems like the kind of guy you could have a beer with. Not your usual Hollywood “Celebrity”
A very original actor. Always, always memorable. Totally inhabits his roles, unlike most actors where it's "them" as we've seen them play "themselves" in different costumes, on different sets, with different words, but always "them". With Mr. Cage, you get the character, not the actor. He is to be applauded for having the balls to bring his non-standard style to his roles, and the talent to take this approach all the way to the very top. And he's a nice guy, so fair play to him.
its his monotonous tone that makes it feel like that. but most actors dotnt change their voice but he stands out he doesnt express alot with his face. al Pacino is all face and eyes
I remember in an article this year that he would like to be called a ‘Thespian’ rather than an Actor. I thought wow you can’t get anymore Nick Cage than that. But then again when i watched his previous interviews with GQ breaking down his roles. He talks so passionately and his thought process on how he got into the role. He loves the art of movie making and acting thats is why, he is what he is today. You know what Nick, you ARE a Thespian. You take that badge of honor proudly my good sir. You don’t need any award to proof you’re good.
After watching this, I wouldn't be surprised to hear Nicolas Cage has remained 100% himself throughout the entirety of his career. He just seems so friggin genuine. I love him more, now.
I want to believe that he would enjoy it more than this since Sean usually asks some left-field atypical questions. I would like to see him a little looser too, which the spiciness often does!
@@taterhamster Man those would be some good questions! There is so much Cage lore out there to make for an epic interview. Also, there would probably be a lot of fun rumination on like the spirit of hot sauce or something
@@MellowFresh You have literally nothing to prove anything about Sean's show is fake. You couldn't pay the celebrities he has on enough money to act the way they do or else way bigger platforms would be able to get that same reaction out of them. Sean knows how to get the best out of people because he's adaptable, he does his research, and he asks questions that usually impress the interviewee because they actually get to hear something different for once. You're just not used to seeing celebrities be actual human beings because 95% of the time you see them they're being told to put on a professional face for tv. Whereas on hot ones it's clear they get to be themselves because it's a youtube show where 2 people just eat hot wings and have a conversation with each other and we learn stuff while being entertained by the concept. Literally every single host I can think of should take notes of hot ones.
"They had to have the "real" me. Whatever that means." He's fairly philosophical during this whole thing. Would be a cool guy to have conversation with.
It’s also significant because he said the director of that film wanted him to play a hyper exaggerated version of himself, to the point of parody. He has made it clear he disagreed with that decision.
"What am I gonna do about, it's there." That's like a meme in itself. I love how selfaware, yet super comfortable he is. Read books kids, and stay outta the phone.
What he could do is embrace it, which would be even more self aware and comfortable. But I get the sense that this is his limit since he lives in his own rabbit hole and can’t transition to other ones.
I think it's great that Nic was obviously uncomfortable with the whole social media interwebs thing, but did it anyway. His answers were fantastic as always!
The fact that its clear, he is kinda annoyed being a meme but still a good sport and understand that no one can stop the internet While anyother actors making a fool of themselves by complaining being a meme instead of embracing it
Cage is the gift that keeps on giving! He is one of those rare actors that can't be replicated, The industry is full of people who look and act the same but then you have people like Cage, Travolta, Pacino, Pesci, Nero, Liotta and a few others who have so many memorable and unmatched roles that its impossible to pick a fav! You just know Cage is one of those actors who will always be relevant and always be memorable
I really respect how he refused to say anything that would be arrogant. Most celebs have such a huge egos and think that they've earned the right to be arrogant. But Nic is a better person than that, he knows that even though he's successful that he's not better than anyone.
his vibe of "you paid me just enough to do this but not enough to pretend I enjoy it" is incredible

He is much more calm and chill than the personality of a crazy person media portrays him to be
Really? I think they just portray him as a weirdo, which isn’t too far off lol. Still a fantastic guy

The thing i love the most about these videos is that you learn that not everything is as it seems. For example, the teeth pulling part, about Nick Cage makes him seem like an amazing / crazy method actor. When you then hear that they had to go out anyway, it brings everything a little more into perspective.
I mean to have it done without anaesthesia is still pretty crazy method haha
The fact that he doesn't feel that it is method acting enough to be consider method acting because it was just baby teeth that had to come out is the most method actor thing he could possibly say.
He will be a legend that’s never forgot, talent, personality, mythos and antics are just too unforgettable.

I was wrong.
You need to get out more or expand your horizons. Coppola aka "Cage" is a ridiculous clown and a terrible actor.
His disdain for the whole process makes me love him even more
As I’ve aged (54) I’ve developed much more respect for Mr.
Grew up watching this guy and its really fun to see how he reacts. Always among my favorites.

"What am I gunna do about it, it's there." This guy is straight up. Cool dude.
I now want to see him on Hot Ones more than ever. It would be a train wreck or a masterpiece, or more probably both.
YES
Nic Cage blurred the line between train wreck and masterpiece.
