@scottykilmer Please review the new Hyundai Elantra 2.0L gas 2021-2024. They have ivt transmission and atkinson engine.
They changed things after issues.🎉
I have a 2017 Cruze with 52K miles. I brought it with 36K miles. It’s not the vehicle I wanted but I’m being thankful for what my parents gave me. So far no issues.
Just change the oil and baby it.
Don’t floor it and it could last up to 200,000 miles
@@jayslomine4280 👍
Oh wow. You got really lucky. I brought my Cruze brand new. Now I’m on my second transmission. Never again
@@harveyhankerson8359That’s crazy.. 😮
@@jayslomine4280 +1. Especially the oil and watch the oil level. My Eco tech will always use oil (bc of low friction oil rings from factory). It will also allow fuel elements to pass into crankcase further degrading oil much faster. When the oil goes bad or low the timing chain wears. It's all downhill from there!!
For an economy car, Chevy Cruzes aren't too bad. They look ok, appear solidly built, are practical, and repair costs are relatively low. It's definitely not the worst car ever. For worse cars regarding reliabilty, just say "Jaguar", "Land Rover", or "BMW".
Car making today is just another scam. The manufacturers have long sight of their customers, forcing them to consider vehicles they don't want at prices they cannot afford. Who wants touchscreen, CTVs, turbos, backup TVs etc?
Jeez Scotty that was like a horror movie when you were looking at all the fault codes 😬
My brothers 2011 Chevy Cruze lasted 200,000 miles
Leaked some oil but it did last
2012 was pretty much the last of the good years for any ford/dodge/chevy. every new model they just get worse and worse.
One of the worst cars i ever had was a 1979 Plymouth Horizon Tc3. Couldn't keep it running for more than 2 weeks at a time...Later saw another one like mine with a bumper sticker that said, " sh*t box from Hell." Made my day!
Not bad for a low cost car.
In Illinois emissions test required in the Chicago area and East St Louis area
I heard that it will pass with just 23 trouble codes. So just get one code off.
I was going to say, since when did Illinois have inspections? I have been living in Illinois for the last 16 years and have not had to have a single inspection for any of my cars.
Interesting. Im from east saint louis and remember the air team place lol.
I have 2019 chevy cruze with 60k miles and have to say this car is solid built roomy interior comfy ride good quality good acceleration very good gas milage and no problem so far for daily uses and i live in iraq super hot weather very bad road conditions hevy traffic daily i wonder why chevy stop the production of the cruze
Scotty you were wrong on the Sear craftsman tools. They still exchange them if they break. I am In Florida and the Lowe’s here carry the craftsman tool and I take them there to replace.
craftsman is now CHINA. Junk really.
My recommendation would be to put in the catalytic converter cleaner before driving it home . . . can't hurt anything.
Cataclean is the best for this. I work at an AutoZone and people are always buying it
Worst Car ever made was the Chevy Vega.
At over 200,000 miles the problem may not be the car...but we know the problem is illinois.
Another reason I left that state 30 years ago.
Well others might disagree.. 2k for migrants reparations for blax
A combination of both honestly
new york state has not just emmissions but also physical safety inspections *EVERY YEAR* including on brand new cars
F>>> new york. never registered my car there.
If I’m riding in a Uber it better be regularly inspected for safety.
Thanks Scotty, very informative and helpful !
Owner sitting in the passenger seat as Scotty roasts his car. 🤣
Imagine looking out your window & seeing this image at night 1:34
🤣
It took me a few seconds to see it but once I did 😆
You never give any follow ups.
I have great luck with Pittsburgh tools from Harbor Freight. Lifetime warranty, no issues returning them.
I’ve lived in IL 20 years and have never had emissions testing. Maybe Chicago, but nowhere else
Correct
I just bought a 2013 C70 T5 with 106k on the clock. The engine is barely broken in, gets 30 mpg, no smoke, no leaks, shifts perfectly, the paint is great, everything works, including the top, and the interior looks like new. Maintenance on these cars is easy, and parts don't cost a fortune.
I've lived in Illinois my entire life and never had to have a car pass any inspection. Thank Goodness!
Had a 2014 Chevy Cruze 1.4L Natural. So glad I traded this crap in for my 2016 CRZ. I traded it a month before the used car market went crazy in early 2021! At 75K miles I had constant issues with my thermostat houses, and electrical issues.
I’m from IL originally and spent 14 years there as a tech. I’ve dealt with the emissions testing a lot. IL will not pass a car if readiness monitors are not set, therefore you can’t just clear a code and drive it through the lane. They will check! Cat codes can take days to reset due to the readiness monitors needing to see certain drive cycles and conditions. It’s a real pain, there’s no way to cheat.
I am from the Chicago area we bribe the emissions test takers
I'm in Illinois no inspections here, must be a Chicago thing.
Mostly Cook, DuPage and Kane counties.
Definitely inspections in Illinois
I live in central Illinois and never heard of inspiration. Any explanation whats that ?
My daughter bought a used one last September with over 247,000 kilometers and it runs well.
Gave it the ATS cleaner system to clean out the engine and fuel systems and seems to work.
Its just insane, can't watch these videos. The car made 200k. for the half of the price of Toyota.
Good info
Yeah it’s was good
Scotty took a chance by flooring a car with over 200 thousand miles on the original automatic transmission.
He does that with every car, it's silly.
@@oreally8605I bet he doesn't drive his own car like that.
@@oreally8605 If he did that with any of our living kind of horses he better have a jockeys license! Our Thoroughbred horses of the living kind are capable of 40.9 mph for 3/8 mile & attain that speed in about 2 seconds. As an experienced retired rider from the track we don`t even ask for their speed anymore. They also are stronger than our trucks too!
Why should it break down/be dangerous at any mileage?
If you can't trust the car to withstand a flat on the floor acceleration..to get you and your family out of trouble....
fix the car so it CAN withstand it!
Wow I’ve never seen a Cruze with that kind of mileage. Far out
I like how his first bonus question was about that Mickey Mouse Cruz right after the video lol
"After 5 years the light turned itself off!" lol
A customer came to my store with one, a 2012 with 178,000 miles. He had a check engine light on for a bunch of EVAP codes.
Ya it’s ridiculous. I had to adjust mr 1971 Dodge challenger to pass the inspection. It’s stupid. I got a 90 C1500 with 80k and I don’t even have to get it inspected period. In NC
Hey scotty. Got a lexus is250 and i hear a loud rattling noise first second i start it up. 130.000 miles. Heard that it can be someting with the VVT. What do you think? Can it hurt the engine?
I used to have a 2011 Chevy Cruze. Biggest piece of junk I've ever owned. Leaked oil and drove like crap. In 2 years I put $2000 into it to repair things that should've lasted the lifetime of the vehicle. When the transmission went out at just over 100K miles, I got rid of it.
I still want a chevy cruze 😅
They aren’t that bad
Just maintain them and don’t drive them hard
They can last to 200,000 miles
Death wish bub!
I live in illinois and ive never had to have my car inspected
The Chevy!!😕
Cruze, traverse, spark, equinox, are all nightmares 😮😞😧
I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze. I paid 9,000 for it and I've put in 9,000 in the 4.5 years I've had it.
Now the back up camera screen isn't working. Luckily the one radio station is on. I can't turn it off or change the station and it's just a back screen. I can however hear the Bluetooth receive a text in my Chevy and get a call.
It is a fuse problem?
Love ya Scotty. But you're waking up the neighbors dog by talking too loud 😂😂😂......4:35.
You rarely see them.
I see them for sale though at high prices. Looking for a sucker.
ima be honest this video actually pissed me off because as a 1st gen cruze owner im going to be real yeah the cruze can have issues at the beginning but its really a good car like i had a few things fixed car going strong lol the biggest issue with them is gm put a ton of plastic parts on it lol now they have metal parts switch the plastic out for metal you good to go lol its a good car its messed up how scotty just bashes the cruze not all of them are bad if u take care of them keep the fluids good dont buy cheap parts the car will be fine 💯 they are good cars
The ones that remain at this stage of their lives...are the good ones.
No it’s not the turbo coolant lines are dogshit everything that has too do with cooling is terrible
@@JohnSmith-pl2bk fr mine got 115k still going strong no transmission issues nothing except i changed the head gasket other then that i love my cruze lol
They all can't be the worst, kilmeister.
Spent 35 years in the automobile business as a used car buyer for big box new car dealers. There have been some bad cars over the years but personally my worst car vote is a tie between the AMC Pacer and the Chevy Chevette.
LoL..I remember them. Used to tell girls to come take a ride in my "Vette". Hahahaha
The worst cars only make it to 100k Scotty Sir!!😎
worst cars do not last 200,000 miles
@@user-zh9ow3jz1t Scotty loves to be hyperbolic. He knows this isn't the worst car ever.
My friend bought a new Chevy Caravan that had a transmission go out at like 50K miles, out of warranty. He had other issues with it as well. That is definitely a worse car than a Cruze. And you're right, I'd say even if you 150K out of a car that doesn't have a major issue by that time (like a blown engine or transmission) that is a decent vehicle.
@@user-zh9ow3jz1tLike Hyundais and Kia’s
@jackolini lol yea he does that for his videos. He's just saying it's not a well built car 😂😂😂😂
I had one of the early Cruzes' for 3 years and never had any trouble with it...but it did have 26 recalls. I traded it in for a Ram 1500, which never ran right in winter and never got fixed. I was better off with the Cruze. That and I have lousy taste in vehicles.
The Cruz is basically the new version of the Cavalier😂 Neither is known for their quality.
You mean it's not the Chevy Vega with its groundbreaking aluminum engine? As a former owner of one I protest!
Throw away cars cheap
My engine light was on about 2 weeks before my inspection was due then about a day before the inspection the engine light went off I was told I needed a new catalytic converter which I didn't want to do because the car is high mileage and I'm buying a new one soon
I drive a 1996 Mercedes e200 with
Half a million kilometers and the original automatic transmission works like new
Whoever’s editing these vids for Scotty is killin me throwin up Tinder while Scotty talks about finding parts lmfao😂
I thought you said you’re quitting RUclips??
So do people drive from out of state to your home to get their car checked?
How many times Scotty found the worst car ever made in his lifetime?😂
Sure, but every year they make new ones😂😂
The CyberTruck?
Didn't some of the Chevy Cruze generations ship with a Toyota Aisin automatic transmission?
Worse than a Yugo or a Trabant? I don't think so! Sorry, Scotty.
at least the trabant didnt cost an arm, leg and your first born child to fix
Both are easy and cheap to fix. So yes it's Infact better lol.
Relatively speaking. Yes.
@@umtozzi Yeah. Right.
I would love to see an American car produced that would be inexpensive, simple, reliable and easy to fix. But Yugo, Trabant and even Fiat are crap. In fact the Russian Trabant was based on the Fiat sedan. Garbage!! I've known people who have owned Fiats and they were flat out junk. My family owned a Fiat 600 back in the early 60s. Like a Smart car, you felt at risk just sitting in the thing. "Suicide doors", and a 600cc engine. It was a turd. They were so bad they should have just shipped them directly to the junk yard when the came off the assembly line. GM products may suck these days, but didn't Scotty say this car had 200,000 miles on it? Or am I mistaken. Perhaps it was another vid. In any case, I'll take this car over those others any day. I can fix anything, and have made cars and trucks last for years. Those foreign things, I wouldn't waste my time on.
Cheers.
It’s better than a Toyota Scotty
Scotty has a strong aversion to the Cruze. It ain't that bad for what it is 🤷
Obviously never owned one
Your skin is glowing today Scotty
Get the exhaust very hot, introduce Sea Foam into the vaccum line, run at higher rpm until exhaust goes clear again. Catalyst pellets should be revived enough to pass the inspection.
Converters are a honeycomb structure. There are no 'Pellets.' SeaFoam was formulated to clean gunk off reed valves in two stroke marine outboard engines.
2014 Chevy Cruze I unfortunately have one I have codes p0016 as me p0299 I need help with explanation and cost for repair any info please can help
I'm certain the Yugo is worse. Bet the Trabant is worse too.
A cruze with 200,000 miles sounds like a good car to me.
Hmmm, where do they bury all these things?
200k miles for a cheap GM car. Can’t complain.
Imagine taking your car to Scotty and he makes a video about your car titled “Worst car ever made” 😢
right i like scotty but damn he be cold who would take there car to someone and he bashes it that’s unprofessional fr lol
@@kenrice3154 it would piss me off

200k+ miles?
Definitely not the worst car ever made.
Scotty, you are old enough to remember the YUGO. That is the worst car ever made!
Don’t about FAIT.. and Kia.
@@harveyhankerson8359fiat isn’t close to bad like yugo or trabant
You may not be old enough to remember the mid-1970s when a brand new car would last about 35,000 miles before the engine or transmission had major problems
British Leyland cars of the 1970s. They were so badly made because of the constant strikes.
@@dampergoldenrod4156 Yeah Ive worked on a couple Triumph Tr6s and they are terrible vehicles.
Hyundai accent 2001, a friend bought within 4 months 7 trips to the dealership. Crazy
When is the last time that Scotty actually fixed something other than just resetting a fault code??
I have a 2014 Cruze with the turbo and it is junk.
Why Scotty is so harsh on cruze? The one he tested, looks like the low end cruze, 1.8L non torbo engine, with 10 year, 200,000 miles and still runs well. I would say it is as good as Toyota. I have a 2012, cruze, eco trim, with a 1.4L torbo engine, 6 speed manual transmission. I paid $17,500 in 2012. The highway mpg is 42, i am in texas, i often get 50 plus mpg. Now my car has 76k miles and still runs strong.
Anyway, i think Scotty is very unfair to the cruze.😢
I agree
Cuz its not a 94 Celica
There's alot of Audis, Hyundais, Kias, etc, etc, that don't last as long.
Good as Toyota? You're delusional. That junk will never last to 350 or 400,000 miles! Nothing but GM junk!
@@jaya.0069 You sound like the guy willing to pay the Toyota dealer markup

What went wrong? From new? maintenance schedule you followed?
@JohnSmith-pl2bk it was a pos lemon followed the maintenance and replaced turbo love times, constant coolant leaks and oil leaks, stalling and other severe issues first turbo failed at 22k miles
In jersey, u are nit just resetting code then getting to inspection. They know if the computer was just reset..internet is ur friend..get a sticker
2014 GM vehicle and 2024 GM vehicle has day & night difference in quality....
The best solution for any car is manual transmission. The automatic ruins cars reputation.
Dude must live in Chicago area only place that requires a inspection In the state
Chevy keeps getting these awards and people keep buying their cars. It’s a mad world.
24 trouble codes! Ha ha ha ha ha. Ha ha ha ha. Oh man LOL. Laugh out super loud. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Ha ha ha ha. Uff...ha ha ha ha. Excuse my laughter...ha ha ha ha.
Exchange the broken tool with the "Tinder" logo was hilariously clever.
I literally laughed out loud.
I really appreciate your work Scotty. You have a friend in Arkansas.
Once you clear the codes.
You have to drive so many engine cycles before it is ready for inspection. Your scan tool will tell you if it is ready for inspection.
Also the codes could be there because it sit for so long and the battery got too low and tripped the communication codes.
Sorry Scotty but the Yugo was the worst car ever made
I leased a 14 Cruz and it was a POS.
I wish you were still a Texan...
Yugo is terrible but, we should expect more out of an American brand.
I thought the Yugo was the worst car ever made.
200,000 miles and has served as an Uber. Hardly the worst car ever made. In a couple of weeks Scotty will have a new "Worst Ever".
Why some of these people bring scotty their Car Dirty AF .
I thought YUGO was worst care ever made.
The Dodge Nitro is the worst car ever made. Just change the oil and filter and youll see why.
