I've worked with Morgan McSweeney before and have to say he is the most upstanding professional operating in the political arena. Labour are VERY lucky to have him on board. The man is a machine a legend and an out and out political operator
You can't blame him for Starmer's problems. He didn't advise, as far as I know, Starmer to take 30 thousand pounds worth of suits and not only take the Taylor Swift tickets but get his picture taken at the show.
Great episode Lewis, understanding the figures around Keir Starmer is important. Whatever we may think, about their political project, direction or it's likely outcome for the country...
It is most worrying to hear that Mr McSweeney is responsible for the watering down of Milliband's Green Policies. Be careful. This country needs educating, incentivising and leadership on these issues. We can't afford the time to just listen to folks who are reluctant to change because it might "cost" them now, as the cost of inaction in the near future will be far, far greater. Starmer needs to lead, political advisors simply advise.
What do you expect from a Tory with a red tie. Starmer has told more lies since becoming ;leader of his party (It's not Labour) than Johnson did as PM.

The very idea that a regional mayor of an English region is treated by engerland by an unelected official is absolutely disgusting . Total insult to the so called devolved nations . Saor Alba
The Englanders are desperate to demote Scotland to a region and not a country of itself. They're terrified of the growing support for independence, it is just a waiting game until the younger generation overtake the boomer generations
The more this podcast goes on I feel like he’s an Irish Malcolm Tucker who has an intense way of operating to win but has no ideology once they’re in power. I hope the Autumn Statement casts a strong and vivid narrative that can rebuild the nation but in the first 100 days they look, as Adam Curtis would say, unable to tell stories.
I'm more concerned about why he is in my Country injecting himself into the American political scene. We prefer he mind his own Country's political issues and stay out of ours...
So would I, seeing as he's from Cork, "The Rebel County", in Southern Ireland. He can now destroy the UK in ways the IRA could only have dreamed about, he's already proven himself to be entirely untrustworthy and incredibly vicious, seeing as he made sure baseless accusations of antisemitism against Jeremy Corbyn were amplified to the max in order to ruin him, utterly disgraceful and disgusting conduct, seeing as Mr Corbyn, who I'm no fan boy of by any means, has spent his life fighting all forms of bigotry and oppression, he just hates what the Israeli government does to the Palestinians, he's right too.
It could be a case of 'be careful what you wish for'! Hopefully Starmer, McSweeney & Reeve will be able to create an idea of what they want to do whilst in government......there is a distinct lack of a game plan (vision). The promise (pre-election) that they will continue to do what the Tories were doing - only better - isn't going to work imo.
Are they fighting "populism"? Or are they conceding to the right in order to win elections? Thus in the end helping them. You need to change the culture in which electoral politics take place not just play triangulation games etc. Of course it was low turnout! People are deeply angry.
Try and forget that David Cameron was a Tory in 2010, he as a potential PM managed to negotiate an advantagous Coalition and for five years appearing untouchable in terms of integrity. It was LibDem Clegg and the Labour leadership who suffered the most. Even Cameron forgetting his own daughter in the pub was forgiven by the electorate. Whoever authored the 2015 manifesto for Cameron, signed up to ending his premiership by the back door, the Brexit referendum damaged the brand and even had he been successful, in terms of remain votes, he would have jumped ship because Johnson, Patel, Davis and Gove were plotting his demise from 2016, on! If he's been advising Starmer all along, he's clearly not as smart or wise as the people Blair had around him before following Bush into the abyss.
That was Alistair Campbell and Peter Mandelson.

He will not learn even after they lose a LOT of council seats to the Lib Dems and Greens next year in the local elections.
McSweeney = Starmer's Dominic Cummings.

So labour is essentially conservative, all but in name.
In the description, can you include the guest speakers names?
There’s always people like this in politics no matter who’s in power. I don’t think this merits a full show talking about it.
Where are those people coming from? As weird as some politicians 😂😂😂 show me your potholes ! 😂😂😂
So… more nationalism and authoritarianism. Yay.

Just why should unelected advisors hold sway over a government.
So... Politicians should only have elected advisors?
@_Stroda no, obviously have advisors but they should be restricted in their actions which would include leaking against party members and M.P.'s
