"Ummm... these guys from Texas." So classic. I can't wait to see what this is.

This episode has me thinking about the surf and surf adjacent content I consume youtube and what I see offered here. Most of it is unwatchable, and maybe that's fine, but even the good stuff is usually a mixed value proposition: great surfing but horrible music, dumb dialogue, too much boring surfing and not enough basic story (it's entertainment). I see a trend to more and more low key content, shaper profiles or interviews, all the make your own surfboard (so stupid as entertainment), the 'surf better' channels, your content. Maybe it's just youtube sending me what they think I might watch but it would be nice if there's a move towards more niche and real content. Where I surf (central american close out beach break) there guys that absolutely rip when there is something ripable, they pull in to big close outs just to be there and do it. And they would make incredible 10 content with some visits to their family and seeing how they live a little and then seeing how they surf, and 20k in us dollars. I guess I basically dislike all commercial or personality driven content. Thanks for keeping it real.
39:50 DM not super enthusiastic about WSL or seeing 'rad' surfing on instagram. He says he likes Connor Coffee not that he's off tour and free to surf how he wants. A great discussion both sides of this.
Aside: I was watching some young wsl surfers piece on D-bah and he is driving up to compete in his WSL (the top of the pyramid) event and the guy has to find a parking spot, walk a long way, carry all his stuff. So my question is, have JMD or ELO ever been to a golf course and observed how these logistics are handled for the people coming to play the golf? Are pro surfers too rugged for such pampering? Does the luxurious embrace of the athlete zone smooth over any previous inconvenience. Think how embarrassing it must be for the people involved, not the WSL athletes, just all the poor people who have to live the lie every time they go to work for the WSL. Take it from the man.
