I remember once that as russia, i saw the maratha becoming powerful having taken over most of persia, i took i think 3 or 4 stacks of men through persia and took over all of india, cause i was bored and i had already taken over most of europe at that point and had converted them to othordoxy. Then i handed over my inidan territory to the mughals or the punjabi, cant remember, but the Maratha eventually rebbeled in their cores and omce again took everything over so i had to go back there and do the same, but this time i kept it. Hell i remember that when i invaded the first time i took a world map that i had and drew on it the direction my armys where going to take and my exact way of advance Btw after this comment i found the map and it still has pen markings in india and pakistan.
Either they have to patch out being able to cancel payments, or make it so if you cancel them enough times, no AI will even consider them as a positive in a negotiation
I agree with your suggestion that doing a double cross should create a permanent rivalry with that person, and a huge impact to others who know about the deal. Secondly, the AI should probably be more stingly about specific provinces - for example, if it's low on rice, don't trade a rice province. But I don't think the overall price of provinces is the problem - it's more about the AI's memory.
Just some tweaks - and the trustworthyness effect should probably be more harmful(but be greatly diminished or erased in those catch 22 situations where you vassalize and have to defend your vassal or break the vassalize which can both be untrustworthy). If trustworthyness also caused more corruption and a public order debuff(say -1 for every 5 untrustworthyness) in your areas it may help stop you from breaking deals. And breaking deals should clearly have a bigger untrustworthy effect, it means you are a greedy liar and that shit should come back to haunt you.

For example, the AI has to abide by the recruitment system the player has, so they can't just shit out entire stacks of high tier knights like they could in say Shogun 2. Nah, if you're slow, the AI can declare themselves Emperor first. The Emperor system works with one faction declaring themselves Emperor and then the game picks the two other strongest factions to also declare themselves Emperor.
Not really. It is only true when you are the first one become Emperor. When Ai become Emperor before you, things still progress normally. That's what happened in my campaign.

When Cao Pi forced Emperor Xian to abdicate and dissolve the Han Dynasty to form Wei, Liu Bei--who definitely had half the territory that Wei had--responded by declaring himself Emperor of Shu-Han. After that, Sun Quan--who had around 2 thirds of what Wei had--declared himself Emperor of Wu.

Just to note, Cao Cao's special building for farms doesn't increase the farms production, it gives you increased replenishment for your armies and a better garrison. Also, you still could make even more food if you had pushed south real quick in the beginning. There is a bunch of food production that the Han empire controls down there. Kind of gross how much food you could make.

I played Kong Rong and made a fish empire. I allied the guy to my north who makes literally everyone his vassal (Yuan Shao I think) and just kept trading with allies for their territory and conquering others.
Well, in reality at that time rice is very very important as there're famine everywhere that the people resorted to cannibalism to survive, its very brutal.
man, I figured this out on my 1st playthrough. as Cao Cao I would just keep all of my neighbors liking me and then focus hardcore on food production and trade them food for territories. the most I got in 1 go was 3 from Yuan Shao for something like 47 food per turn. absolutely fucking broken system and I love it
There needs to be steeper penalties for canceling deals and untrustworthiness needs to last much longer especially for the factions that you've slighted. Also trade needs to be fixed so that you can't just trade back and forth with the same person and infinitely profit. Lots of pretty game breaking bugs as the game currently stands.
Even without exploiting the cancellations i have managed to use food to buy land that produces food and then 10 turns later manage to get them to value my food more to buy their expensive cities and take over half of china through zero wars.
I like this video, because it clearly points out a pretty huge exploit with the game at the moment. Pretty sure if you combined this bs with actually declaring war and fighting people as normal, you may become emperor of China in only like 100 turns.
To patch it maybe they could add a diplomatic mechanic that makes the territoires you just bought or the powers you vassalized through a deal rebel or join a more powerfull ennemy if you cancel said deal (with ridiculous buffs against your army of course or some "dishonour" debuffs to your own army )
The reason the AI comes out is so they don't take attrition from lack of supplies, which incidentally is probably the same reason Game of Thrones characters sally outside the walls.

Hopit they also need to rebalance buying territories alltogether. But this is CA we really shouldn’t ever expect their AI not to suck.

Yeah I can see this being an easy patch. Just exponentially increase the diplomatic penalty of prematurely canceling agreements in a given time span.

The reason the AI comes out is so they don't take attrition from lack of supplies, which incidentally is probably the same reason Game of Thrones characters sally outside the walls.
