One bonus tidbit about the locking of group formations. Normally, if you right click for a group to advance to a certain position, each unit will go at it's normal walk pace. However, if you lock the group formation, the group will try to maintain that formation while moving, so cavalry and lighter foot units will slow down so as not to separate from heavier units. If pivoting on an axis they will even maintain their formation in the direction of travel and will then rotate in place together!
Funny you say that, if you press F2 in-game, any of the videos you watch through that I did the videos and voice work for, so it sort of is hahaha. Thank you so much for watching dude
This is excellent information! Any details will be priceless with this game. It is asking a lot more of players in the campaign which opens up the door for teaching videos galore! Sent this to my family members who also play the game! Keep up the fantastic job!
Thank you so much, you're the only RUclipsr I found so far that does such a good job of breaking everything down and covering all the things I really need to know. I learned so much from this video and your other videos like the campaign guides. Have a great day!
Wow that locking formations to get everyone to move without converging alone makes this already awesome vid a game changer for me. I Lost battles because of not knowing how to do this.
Thanks a lot for this! I watched a lot of your Bannerlord and Crusader Kings videos and now I'm getting into Total War, kind of for the first time. You make things so clear to understand, it's really a fantastic help for beginners. So thanks for this and for all your helpful and entertaining content in general :) PS: of of my cats is also called Ninja!
Thanks for all your videos so far man! I played a ton of the franchise but havent played much since Attila so your videos were an amazing and concise refresher/guide to getting back into the swing of things all 3 of them were superb! Looking forward to more content from you!
Why do you prefer troops grouped by retinue instead of classic unit style? I was looking for a deep strategy game to waste a few days off with, and thanks to you I realised I've already got one. I played it when it came out but misunderstood it so much I gave up, despite the fact I've been here since Rome 1. Your videos have really opened it up for me so that I am starting to glimpse how good it might be.
the tip for creating a custom path to reach a target is going to be monumental to me. I've often wondered if there was some way to do that for cavalry purposes
Didn't see it in there, but when you're selecting with the cntl-select, the order you select the units is kept. Ie, Selecting a spearman first, then 3 sword units, then another spearman places them in a line in that order, swords in the middle, spearman on the ends, when you right-click-drag them into a formation.
ThX for tutorials, I came upon this channel finding how to play this game. I haven’t bought it yet but it’s more then likely I will. I will check your playlist for three kingdoms vids. New subscriber also 👍 I will need these vids when I start playing...
@ItalianSpartacus Oh my god. This is so good! Ive been thinking: where do I get this mod from that shows me the stuff u explain at 6:35 . Like how to turn this on. Great Video with good insights about imho important stuff!
I have not played the last few total war games so don't know if this is brand new, but the tab to tactical plan map and the draw a path function is changing the game. The flank and kite game is on another level ^^
I can't remember when they added it. It's a tactic in other strategy game that I just TRIED one day hahaha. Sometimes it's right clicking to create the path instead of drawing it. But yeah man.. TOTAL GAME CHANGER
@@italianspartacus i think i saw you use the path function in one of the preview vids and was thinking, dang this will be good. Playing around with it yesterday combined with the tactical map i had some of the best battles since original shogun.. This game is amazing.
ItalianSpartacus same in Warhammer as long as grouped then they will attack like that with a right click. Still a very informative video regardless. Thanks for making it.
Colin Deal no it clearly says “when the group is locked” then after that it says “the right click works as long as locked” so I think you’ll find I did specify.
Another top video mate! I've put about 10 hours in to the game and I absolutely love it! I still get slightly confused about all the lord types and who does what against who, and who does what for who?!
just got the game today.. been a while since i played any Total War games (Napoleon was my last fav). Thx for this! Definitely agree on the Chinese voice-overs. Read the actual epic (books) if u ever get a chance =)
This video is so helpful! Thank you! I’ve been watching your tutorial videos lately. Do you have a video about your graphics settings? Or a picture of it atleast? Thanks! +1 sub!
Seriously thank you, they added some nice layers to the new total war and being able to understand how to use them makes the game more enjoyable, so once again thank you for the tutorial, I'll be checking in for more.
is cool the game but i kind have a hard time with units statistic card got used to total war warhammer 1 and 2 this video help me change the things way better thank you!
So I've finally purchased Three Kingdoms! I'm brand new to Total War also. I love the density of the campaign mechanics, although I have a looong way to go to feel comfortable. However, it is the real-time battles that I find most overwhelming. I have been a turn-based player forever (excluding Harpoon about 30 years ago). Are there any tips you can give me? I am worried that always using "delegate" will come with unhappy results too often. Thanks!
They realls made some odd decisions with TK. First, when you play in records, you always have 3 generals with cavalery. When you get reinforing army, you might end up with 6 or more generals. Whut? Then, the 2 rows are just objectively worse to order things. Unless you run out of space and you have to align stuff in two rows as in older TW titles, one row makes it easier to rearrange unit cards and sort them according to your liking. For instance by type or by their general layout on the battlefield. Even with the unit category sorting in TW:TK, it can be hard to quickly select odd numbers (3,5,7) of units quickly... I hope they go back to how they did that in Rome II or Shogun II.
Keep them fighting together! Sometimes their traits just won't align.. But if they are in proximity, they should increase.. SOMETIMES THEY DECREASE SO beware
Just a quick question: how did you get a Yellow Turbans "Veteran" general into a Coalition army? Is there a way to recruit Veterans, Scholars, and Healers as a Coalition faction later in the game?
Just wanted to clarify something, archer militia can no use flaming arrows correct? If they can, for some reason the ability isn't available despite having a strategist that gives access to that ability. I imagine only proper archers can have flaming arrows?
i loove the total war series game being a big romance of the three kingdoms fan its to bad the devs did not add more of the traditional weapons mentioned in the book or series iconic ones for the game but still the game looks awesome
I prefer the way Shogun 2 did it. I cannot quickly tell which unit is mine. The icons on top of the characters should have a background behind them. Also the way we had flags represent the status of a unit was more adequate. Just what I noticed after playing 1400 hours of Shogun 2.
Hi IS. I just started playing TWTK Feb 2021 and I cant find unit category sorting or drag out single line under the interface tab. Have they been removed or moved due to a patch? Cheers
What are the three little boxes next to the unit card? One's green when you select the retinue, but not any different when you select another retinue? It's been confusing me for awhile 🙈?
5:10 I don't understand how the standard retinue organization of your troops is in any way intuitive. I admittedly am new to the game, but I've never deployed my army of the field by way of retinue composition. Maybe I just need to adapt to a new meta in 3k?
Why do you have them split up into retinues on the UI out of interest? Seems a bit redundant when you're basically control grouping them into their various unit groups anyway, wouldnt it be easier with the UI pre-grouping them for you initially for easier control grouping? I'm struggling to see why the game has the retinues divided between the Generals is all, from a battle map perspective i cant see the benefit of it (happy to be convinced otherwise!)
I'm just sort of a purist when it comes to games.. If this is the way the game is intended, from a development stand point, I tend to want to lean towards that. The main reason they're separated is because the characters have so many abilities that apply solely to the retinue, so this way you can see, at a glance, what's going on I'd say :)
@@italianspartacus Yeah i agree with you and am much the same - i'd always rather go with the way the developers intended. But with this one i just find it cumbersome which is why i was curious why you were persisting with it. I *want* to use it but as someone who clicks unit cards often, it's annoying when wanting to select multiples of the same type but there's different varieties (ie 2 different types of archers spread across 2 retinues)
My Interface tab doesn't look like that. When I choose the Battle tab within it, I don't get the additional check boxes. Do I have to be in battle to change it?
You should've covered foliage granting ranged protection, slowing down horses and enabling fire morale damage and damage over time. Also, uphill and downhill charges..
Well this was more a video about battlefield controls/UI and hotkeys, rather than actual tactics or gameplay. But a video on all that would be great to have
@18:56 OMG that alt+right click to attack enemies in line is my life saving. before this i always click my troops and enemies 1 by 1. thanks!
Hahaha man.. I've been playing this series for like.. I dunno 20 years. I learned that just last year.
ItalianSpartacus do you have to alt? I thought it worked by just locking their group formation and attacking
@@aerotype It seems that way. I'm going to try it tonight and see if it works by just simply locking the unit
Didn't work for me.. Help :(
