Yes. So good to see what we always suspected about Norm is true: he really is very smart and just plays dumb for comedic effect. And he clearly takes the craft of comedy seriously and what looks to us as rambling stories and jokes are actually carefully crafted by Norm.
What! This is the first interview I've seen with Norm where I've thought "Wait, why's he lying?" because he's talking about visiting with Johnny Carson in his office after doing the Larry kind impression on SNL, and I just watched another episode of this show, where Norm told the same story, but said that he was too afraid to go!

They call Norm an "everyman" comic in the description. I'd argue Norm isn't like any man. What an original. He will be sorely missed. RIP Norm and Larry.
I agree. He’s not an everyman comic, he is funny to everyone that wants to listen but not everyone wants to. It takes a while to understand his humour and once you’re in it, you’re hooked, and it can’t be replicated. You try telling one of his jokes at a table, people just laugh because of how terrible you told it. I’d say an Everyman comedian is someone who tells jokes everyman can tell to his friends.
Shane Gillis is an everyman comedian I’d say with the exception that he’s not telling jokes, he’s making funny observations in conversation. Norm is able to make the funny observation, but also have a killer punchline whilst weaving a story in between. Grant Johnson I realize that and I recognized that. He’s known in the comedy world and fans of comedy for his craft, that’s great. I’m talking about generally he’s not known as one of the greats. When people say whose the greatest standup comedian of all time they immediately go to the Carlin, Pryor, Murphy or rickles. They never say norm Macdonald. Not superficial one bit. Norm was unabashedly himself, this was no Paul Walker death for us (RIP to the man though, don’t want to come off the wrong way/downplay his death for any fans, but I’ve “had a few” tonight and I think you all know what I mean). Going through likely the toughest time in my life right now, and putting on Norm clips for an hour or so are saving me from ”checking in”… or worse..
there is actually a lot of interviews of him being serious. He is only sardonic and playing up a character when he is part of the show or when the interviewer is really dumb. Still in shock over Norm's passing. I've been watching everything on RUclips with him ever since. How long has it been? Over a week for sure. So sad. Right after Charlie Watts, too. Even sadder.

Excellent interview. Due to coronavirus overload I stopped watching tv. This was an intelligent and funny 29 minutes. Love Norm and Larry King's relaxed/chill interview style.
People barely mention this but I know for a fact that Norm is a subtle genius. The way he articulates his thoughts about his ways as a person and comic strikes with both poignancy and a slap on oneʼs common sense. Norm is a person worth listening to if people want to be real about life and how we interact with our fellow kind. He truly is the one of the best, if not the greatest, comedians ever.
I've always thought of Norm as an artist of comedy, but if he says stand-up is not an art, then I'll agree. So he's not an artist but an artisan, a master craftsman! Great interview.

It’s no secret that comedians are among the modest intelligent people in earth. This guy gives the most thought provoking commentary I’ve ever heard an entertainer provide in my history. He really loved what he did & respected the ways of the past yet he was somewhat progressive. He was a natural genius as a comic. Miss him. Don’t think we will find anyone like him again. 🙏💙
And now they’re both dead 😂
Great to see Norm change gears and let people know he really is a veteran of comedy and showmanship. Young comics can really learn from him.
The way his eyes brighten when he is setting up the xanax pun is marvelous.
Was there a Xanax pun? I can't see how that would be possible, I mean maybe a joke but a pun?
@@sethbishop6890 is this a rhetorical question?
@@agee7777 not at all. Do you know what a pun is? Xanax doesn't have multiple meanings.
@@sethbishop6890 it could have multiple meanings, it might be someone who is in love with Ana!

Larry is the perfect person to interview Norm. Norm clearly respects him to be candid and more serious than any other interview I've seen. Larry is funnier and appreciates funny people more than I knew. Probably one of my favorite Norm interviews I've ever seen.
A certified diamond interviews an old chunk of coal. Genius ensues.
Still in shock over Norm's passing. I've been watching everything on RUclips with him ever since.
How long has it been? Over a week for sure.
So sad.
Right after Charlie Watts, too. Even sadder.
Such a great interview! RIP Norm.
I Really enjoyed hearing the serious side of Norm. He stayed in character his entire career. It was the only way it would work. I never noticed how compassionate his face was.
'The champions tour they call it' the guy is a flat out charmer, straight up witty Canadian. Best comedian of all time!!
Norm is my most favourite comedian of all time .what a loss that he is no longer with us.
I'm glad Norm said "i Love you" to Letterman. They were a class act to each other all the way. Letterman should have said the same.
@WormYourHonor64 I don't think he did but some things do not need to be said out loud. Letterman loves Norm, no doubt about it.
I'm pretty sure he did.
I kinda remember Letterman saying he loved him too.
@@linmiller8147 I believe he said, “That was very sweet, Norm. Thank you.”
One if the best interviews for sure. I'm glad someone had enough intellect to have a normal conversation with norm so we can see into his head a little haha
took Norm 10 minutes to FINALLY sip that coffee. Great interview.
Rest in paradise LK!!
And now our dear friend Norm.
One of the best interviews of Norm on the internet, definitely the most sincere.
I've seen a few of these Larry King Interviews and I can't remember one where the crew was laughing. Well done Norm!
Such a good interview. Glad we got this.
Fantastic interview by a great interviewer and a fantastic comic , I didn’t realize how funny and incite full Norm is .
It should be "Larry King's Alive"
lmao
You mean, “Larry King’s Alive?”
I gotta steal that bit
famousmonster369 Beetlegeuse - Amy?
Title should be: Larry King's STILL Alive - And Just Got Married AGAIN!
Standing on the shoulders of the blooper reel guys, those Wright brothers.
Great interview -- they were both really good. Sad to think that they are both gone, but people can still see this, which is cool.
I could listen to these 2 for hours. Norm
MacDonald is my go to when I'm down. RIP
I love Norm. Out of the way. This is one of the best interviews I've ever witnessed. Thank you, Larry. Thank you, Norm.
By the way, Norm is such an intelligent human man. So darn well spoken and in tune with the normalcies of being a human being.
This was a real treat! One of maybe 3 or 4 BEST televised Larry King interviews EVER!
Excellent interview. Due to coronavirus overload I stopped watching tv. This was an intelligent and funny 29 minutes. Love Norm and Larry King's relaxed/chill interview style.
Check out the 2 other times Larry had Norm on his show, equally good stuff.
One of the greatest interviewers of our time interviews one of the greatest comedians of our time. Always pure gold.
Love a bit of Norm , he makes me laugh every time . Very smart man.
"Well, you know I don't know anything about anything"
-Man who knows an abundance about many things
He sidestepped politics better than anyone I have ever seen.
I saw norm here in Denver - one of my life’s best decisions.
I love this interview! This needs way more attention.
Norm is the best comedian ever.
He made being hilarious the norm.
I see Norm, I click.
Aye love the Norm content, a truly interesting man.
Thanks for all this good stuff Larry, rest well Mr. King
Larry King taking a minute to get that Cosby joke is the best.
He truly is the one of the best, if not the greatest, comedians ever.
you can tell larry genuinely enjoyed talking with norm this was a great interview.
Great stuff! Such sincerity from two major players playing off each other and delving into the biz which makes or which may have not made them.
Norm was being sarcastic, but the largest section of Don Ohlmeyer's Wikipedia *is actually* the portion that talks about him firing Norm Macdonald lol
I've always thought of Norm as an artist of comedy, but if he says stand-up is not an art, then I'll agree. So he's not an artist but an artisan, a master craftsman!
Great interview.
Watching this in 2021 carries so much sad weight. Rest In Peace Larry King and Norm Macdonald. Just a couple of diamonds shooting the breeze here
This was a great interview, thank you Larry 👍
He teared up at the start when Larry said he was one of the best comics ever
This is a great interview. Can't wait for them to do it again so we can get more norm wisdom!
I keep forgetting Norm moved on!! It's still hard to comprehend. Miss ya buddy!
This is first time/closest I've seen Norm Macdonald staight/sincere/serious.
there are 2 more of these here on youtube, equally great.
This aired less than three years ago, and now both these men are gone. RIP
Both of these great men are gone. It's crazy coming back and watching this.
18:55 I find myself laughing at random times throughout the day just thinking about that Arab bit and picturing Norm in a giant turban carrying a dagger on a plane.
"I bomb, but never try to win 'em back" ...
Maybe it's just me, but I laughed.
It’s no secret that comedians are among the modest intelligent people in earth. This guy gives the most thought provoking commentary I’ve ever heard an entertainer provide in my history. In fact, I put him up their with a great mind like Winston Churchill. Perhaps not as a war strategist, but as a life experience strategist. But I have to enjoy thinking when u watch him. I enjoy thinking.
Norm was in the top 10 most original comics of all time.
What a lovely dialogue between two sharp guys.
One dull interviewer with hints of philosophical brilliance and one philosophically brilliant guest with hints of dullness.
Wisdom AND humility. What a class act.
“...And then he plugged his book.”
One of the best lines in the interview. Surprised it didn't get more replies.
@@michaeljohnston6965 that joke was too good.
devo076 Can you explain it please? Thank you!
@@BbGun-lw5vi Dawkins attracts people with his smartness and than ultimately tries to sell you his books, wich is somewhat cheap.
I love Norm and have watched/listened to everything I can find. I still have yet to hear him mention his love for any comic that started after the 90’s. And how can you make Dirty Work 2 if Artie is dead? Also, “chunk of coal” alert at 24:54
Probably went 6 months in the future
I always saw Larry King as a very serious and dry character, but his laughter is so full of joy! Love it! These two were a good combo!
Who gave this a thumbs down? One of the most quirky and brilliant guys out there on TV. He’s somewhat of an outsider as a Canadian, a conservative, and not a drinker.
