On Norm has a Show, he mentioned that his mother told him that when you get older you lose the gleam in your eyes, Norm never lost that twinkle in his eyes even as he fought his various courageous battles against cancer and ultimately led to a draw. He has this beautiful, childlike energy in everything he does and we're blessed to experience him.
How both these men passed in the same year shows the kind of humor the universe has. Luckily for Larry, he won't be forgotten for a long time. RIP Larry and Norm.
Norm Macdonald is deeply intelligent and gifted. Loved how he explained Christianity not being better than anyone else but the contrary. “I’m just a lump of coal but I will be a diamond one day.” Simply beautiful.
Knowing now that Norm was seriously ill when this interview took place, puts it in a whole new context. He was a courageous guy, and it’s a real bummer that he’s gone.
Yeah it really does. Like the moment when they talk about death and Larry mentions cancer at 7:35. You can see Norm's lovely reaction. He is really going to be missed.

It's funny to think this aired just five years ago, with both Larry and Norm discussing the prospect of death, and neither of these gentlemen are with us any longer. Both, however, left a legacy of good work and touched the lives of many. We're blessed to have this record of their exchange.
This should be the most watched video on youtube because of everything that just happened the past 2 years including the loss of both these geniuses. Thank you for posting
Two deceased men talking about death. Norm's death hit me hardest because I think he still had so much to give us. Larry lived a full and long life, much longer than most had expected. RIP gentlemen.
So much more to know about Norm than I was aware. A thinker, a believer of humility and kindness,, and an intellectual in my view. Well read, and internalized the bleakness of Russian literature. I loved his description of death and viewing pictures before being born and not being terrified...... What a peaceful gift those words are. Thank you Norm for being ambitious enough to allow us to receive your significant wisdom.
Norm was such a tremendous talent, and even more so, such an intelligent individual. This interview truly shows a different side of his mind. We sure did lose a special person. I truly miss him, and didn’t even know him.
You can tell Norm genuinely respects Larry, he tends to be evasive and absurdist, but here he throws the doors wide open and answers directly knowing Larry has a similar birds-eye view
Norm is a true artist of comedy. He often will purposefully stumble over his words and seemingly go around in circles when telling his jokes, but that's his whole shtick, we're all being played for the sake of laughter. In truth he's one of the most insightful and creative comedians out there and very few can come close to his ability for storytelling and his unmatched delivery. Go find his infamous *"Moth Joke"* or *"A frog goes into a bank"* if you need any proof. Or maybe just because you want to laugh some!
Zero Accountability, the moth joke is great, but he's done so much quality stuff, it's a wonderful stream of consciousness, i believe it's called having a conversation, or something.
Its the bitter truth. Nobody makes me laugh like him because nobody is as insightful or creative. He actually makes me smarter because my brain has to work when he's talking. With other comedians I can zone in and out but with him Im totally focused.
I used to listen to Larry King on the radio when I was like 10-12 years old in the early 90's. He was on after basketball games and would keep the radio on, it was a calming routine going to sleep. Then I would wake up in the middle of the night to terrifying Crime Stoppers ads.
I didn’t know it was possible for me to like Norm even more, but after learning he sings Waylon Jennings in the shower, I do. Norm is the man. “Back to Norm” 2024
This is quite an incredible interview. Very rarely that I watch an interview of an individual that makes me feel fascinated by him, who truly doesn't disappoint by shallowness at any point. He speaks abnormally honestly and clearly is a thinker who contemplates the questions of life very hard.
When Norm says, "It's all gone," knowing that which we know now... so innocent. Beautifully heartbreaking. My heart is broken. Norm, you are my lifetime's Elvis. Forever will I mourn the loss of your talent and the things you might have said. I am now part of the multitudes who cry for the absence of something I never actually had in the first place. Infact Norm probably set him up to respond exactly the way he did. And Norm´s not a zen master he´s a all time great comedian which is more impressive if you ask me.
@Aramis3737 Neither "Facts about ones life" or "Stories" gonna tell you more about ones life then the other. My point is this is pseudo philosophical BS ppl on LSD would discuss when they enter the second half of their trip... no offence.. just makes me laugh reading this.
Him saying he wanted to write 3 more books makes me sad. I loved his book and would have loved to see him become an author.
"Sometimes your dreams can be nightmares"
"Thank God for unanswered dreams"

Simply a great interview. Never really saw Norm being serious for this long. Smart smart gentle man.
After knowing how ill he was, nine years with cancer, this was like a testament to who Norm really was! Norm was telling everybody who Norm really was! This is a good show and glad I saw it!
its an odd re-contextualization of the last 9 years of his life for those of us who are still here to reflect on it, what little we thought we knew about his comedy and how he presented himself in public and what we might ponder knowing after the fact.
Seinfeld told Norm that his bit about Germany
going to war against the WORLD twice , was
discussed by comics more than any bit ever.
That says a lot.
Or so the German comedians would have us believe.
Morvidus, your right, and it ain't no good.
So I'm having a party and they'll be a lil' drinking, a lil' fightin' and a lil' fornicatin.' Why don't you come over, whenever you want, it'll just be the 2 of us.
That just proves my theory: Germans love David Haselhoff!
And the least discussed comic ever: Frank Stallone
Morvidus and humans step on ants while on sides walks... it’s just a accident of being so big...
Every 3rd world country has a enemy near by and trains its people to hate them...
China vs Japan
Miramar vs Thailand
Cuba vs Oceanians
Ect ect ect
Two legends having a conversation
Maybe the best interview I’ve seen with Norm! You really see how hyper intelligent he is!
bigsteed007 norm seems to like to hide his intelligence, but if you’re really looking he’s clearly very sharp.
@@purplemonkeydishwasher9818 it's hard to deny how intelligent he is. His sarcasm is so extreme though that it goes over many heads.
You need to check out his team Coco podcast it's by far my favorite
Two legends that are deadly missed.
I would have loved to read the three more books Norm was planning on writing. Love you, Norm.
There are a lot of comedy styles, many flavours, some the same. But this man stands alone. There is a special kind of audience for this man. One of kind. R.I.P. Mr. McDonald.
Norm is so pure. I love seeing him being real like this.
Norm is one of the smartest comedians. He can get away with things no other comedian can.
They havent tried.
@@zztopz7090They couldn’t do it.
Norm is a genius
Wouldn't consider Norm a genius.
Explain to the folks at home what a genius is.
A GENIUS is a person who creates things of value that have never existed before
@@hugonongbri8100 a person who is good at math.. or something
He wouldn't consider him a genius himself.. he's too deeply closeted for that..
“I’m just a lump of coal but I will be a diamond one day.”
Simply beautiful.
He was very bright, well read. And so funny in his own unique way. Definitely one of the best.
This has got to be one of the most insightful interviews I've ever heard. Norm is a gem.
Norm is the best interview, his stuff with Letterman is classic.
True!
Couldn't agree more. Nobody made Dave laugh harder than Norm.
I go back and forth between Letterman and Conan on Norm... With Conan and Andy he's more of an equal, but just as funny.
Norm may technically be gone now, but as long as footage of him exists, he's alive & well in my heart.
Knowing now that Norm was seriously ill when this interview took place, puts it in a whole new context.
He was a courageous guy, and it’s a
real bummer that he’s gone.
Yeah it really does. Like the moment when they talk about death and Larry mentions cancer at 7:35. You can see Norm's lovely reaction.
He is really going to be missed.
Waged a courageous battle.
Norm: 4:05 "I'm not a fan of big words"
Also Norm: 12:09 "Afrodisiacal"
Roman Shepherd there’s also an episode of NML where he tells Stephen Merchent he doesn’t like books. He keeps a very low bar facade. Anyone that listens to him knows it’s part of his schtick. He disarms.
@@polygoncreatures4045 Exactly. His popular jokes on Conan, such as the "Moth Joke" and the "Dolphin Joke", are his own plays on Russian literature.
*aphrodisiacal...edited cause I'm not 100% but there's definitely no f in there.
More of a mid-sized word really
Also, when he says he would like to be Trump with all that money after saying previously that coming from poverty he was quite happy now.
"Never bet on football cause the ball ain't round." Brilliant.
King: "something u wish u were better at?"
Norm: "gambling!"😉
Still heartbroken 3 days later. This one is hitting hard. This video is hitting hard, especially when Larry comments on cancer.
I’m still wrapping my head around the fact that these two legends are no longer with us.
We're at the point of our lives when the people we always knew start dying one by one
Larry is so close to understanding what Norm is saying, but it's just out of reach
@sfairraid 13 so you mean apathy_
@sfairraid 13 no its bc hes a midwit talking to a (albeit very humble) topwit
It’s because Larry’s sense of humor is blah. And norm’s is phenomenal
Big Larry said he's never seen Norm do stand-up. Couldn't be bothered to look some up before the interview?
@@natalliaf6387 Larry’s been phoning it in for a long time. Can’t blame him when it keeps working, though.
Why is Ruth Bader Ginsberg interviewing Norm MacDonald?
John Brock jr what a battle axe
Hope she gets better soon
he shoulda said i wish i was better at gambling
Speak ill of the (almost) dead
That ol chunk of coal?
Norm is truly one of the funniest comics out there today.
Man watching them talk about their fear of death, knowing they're both gone now, was so sad💔
It's funny to think this aired just five years ago, with both Larry and Norm discussing the prospect of death, and neither of these gentlemen are with us any longer.
Both, however, left a legacy of good work and touched the lives of many. We're blessed to have this record of their exchange.
Norm's eyes are like little earth globes of innocence. His looks are so sincere. I feel like my eyes are always lying to people.
This woke me up from my dirt nap
Is that what they’re calling it these days?
Good God Larry! Jesus. You would not say that on Hulu.
@@bunnyblurrz No but I'll say it here.
Rufus T. Firefly Same.
hail, hail freedonia, land of the free.
Norm says he doesn't like using long words of such high vocabulary, then uses the word "aphrodisiacal". Got to love Norm.
Norm with all those sincere answers then boom I'm deeply closeted. What a genius
This should be the most watched video on youtube because of everything that just happened the past 2 years including the loss of both these geniuses. Thank you for posting
Norm is so humble, he will always be in my top five fav comics.
If I had my way, I'd have every single Norm fan watch this so the masses can see the intelligence and humanity behind his hilarity. This was great.
I could listen to Norm all day for a month and not get tired.
RIP to Larry "Iron Horse" King A True Legend
He isn't dead. It was a announced as a hoax! Good Lord people are thick.
The bit where he talked about being afraid of dying was startling since his death.
I didn't even know he was sick..
@@KittenBasher69 lol no, he's definitely taken a "dirt nap"
@@Heopful yeah I can relate I'm only in my 30s and worry about it at least once a day sometimes briefly sometimes not
You can tell Norm genuinely respects Larry, he tends to be evasive and absurdist, but here he throws the doors wide open and answers directly knowing Larry has a similar birds-eye view
That "deeply closeted" bit was incredible....on so many levels.
R.I.P. Normie!
30 mins. of Norm being sincere is gold.
Zero Accountability, the moth joke is great, but he's done so much quality stuff, it's a wonderful stream of consciousness, i believe it's called having a conversation, or something.
in other words: He's a good man
Its the bitter truth. Nobody makes me laugh like him because nobody is as insightful or creative. He actually makes me smarter because my brain has to work when he's talking. With other comedians I can zone in and out but with him Im totally focused.
Zero I'm almost sold...do you have just a few more glowing remarks about Norm...just to push him over that edge??
I used to listen to Larry King on the radio when I was like 10-12 years old in the early 90's. He was on after basketball games and would keep the radio on, it was a calming routine going to sleep. Then I would wake up in the middle of the night to terrifying Crime Stoppers ads.
I didn’t know it was possible for me to like Norm even more, but after learning he sings Waylon Jennings in the shower, I do. Norm is the man.
“Back to Norm” 2024
This could go on for hours & never be boring.
21:43 Larry’s reaction is just incredible. He thought he got the scoop of lifetime.
Norm is the sweetest, funniest man on the planet, I love him!
Best comedian ever with the best broadcaster ever...'nuff said.
I laughed SO hard when he said “this has been hysterical so far”!!! Omg!!
Two legends who both died on the same year. I'll watch this a couple more times. Salute!
This is quite an incredible interview. Very rarely that I watch an interview of an individual that makes me feel fascinated by him, who truly doesn't disappoint by shallowness at any point. He speaks abnormally honestly and clearly is a thinker who contemplates the questions of life very hard.
This was a funny and interesting interview. Didn't want to miss a word. Loved Larry hanging in with Norm too. Thanks.
Wow, Norm’s love and deep knowledge of Russian literature always amazes me. That Nabokov quote blew my mind.
Leave it to you to create that dichotomy now within me.
When he reads the question "what do you want to be remembered for" I can't lie, I teared up. Rip one of the greats.
Oh my gosh me too! Honestly, when Norm answered, it seemed to me that he slightly choked up.
Looked like they cut when the camera angle changed. 😕
