This is slightly off topic but as I research WWII japanese aircraft more, I realize that they had really awesome planes from the start of the war till the end. And even better planes in development. The typical U.S. narrative on the pacific conflict tells that Japan started with the better aircraft like the A6m and KI-43 then the U.S. caught up and even exceeded them with the F6F, F4U, and P51. But japans N1K2 and J2M ( late warbirds) were actually pretty awesome planes. They were comparable to the p51 and p47. Japan just lost because they ran out of resources and became overstretched.

It may have been designed as a heavy bomber, but there was never a time Japan was able to deploy it as such, thus it would be mostly used for transport, etc.

The modified planes would attack either from below and back or dive front to back. The former was used in night fighting and the latter in day time. Another version had recoiless motors triggered by a photovoltaic sensor that would fire the mortars upward when the shadow of the target moved overhead.
But... but... the sheer recoil of that many guns would slow down those planes to the point that they could only do bursts of about a second or two, without actually slowing down.

Yes, but it’s still entertaining. But they do state that Japan is a nation of craftsmen than factories. The best they could do with an advanced Navy and a secret society with thirty or so years of forewarning is bring the war with the US to a stalemate. While at the same time with the US putting all of its baskets into fighting Japan the Brits and the Soviets are having a hell of a time with the Germans. Ending up with a different enemy no 1 instead. Is it unrealistic of course. But it’s still fun to watch.
Bomber vs. bomber? What's this Warthunder? Whoever imagined this has no idea how or what the concepts of specialized aircraft is. A bomber is a bomber because they can carry huge bomb loads to drop on enemy targets, they are not supposed to waste all their capacity on carrying guns just to fight other bombers or other aircrafts because they are not maneuverable enough to dog fight. That's what fighters are for. Its just a waste of resources.
Uh, actually, gunshipping was a real thing. Before long range escorts into Germany were available, some B-17s were converted into *_dedicated_* gunships. They didn't even carry a bombload. Just ammunition and more guns. No it is actually pretty ingenious. Allied bombers in ww2 had pretty good self defense coverage except for in area in front and below the bombers. The Germans would equip special night fighter planes with radar and sneak up in front of bomber wings and unload their payload whilst being out of their field of fire.

Thanks for reminding me - but although being German I have no detailed information as to which blueprints and technical details have made their way across the ocean and what was not passed on, the "Schräge Musik" was first tested as early as late 1942, so I see no reason why the Japanese shouldn't have known about it. As you are certainly aware there is also a factor called "friendly" espionage...

Yes, but it’s still entertaining. But they do state that Japan is a nation of craftsmen than factories. The best they could do with an advanced Navy and a secret society with thirty or so years of forewarning is bring the war with the US to a stalemate. While at the same time with the US putting all of its baskets into fighting Japan the Brits and the Soviets are having a hell of a time with the Germans. Ending up with a different enemy no 1 instead. Is it unrealistic of course. But it’s still fun to watch.
With the weight and opposing force from shooting those gatlings, those japanese “bombers” would have fallen out of the sky into a flatspin.

Bomber vs. bomber? What's this Warthunder? Whoever imagined this has no idea how or what the concepts of specialized aircraft is. A bomber is a bomber because they can carry huge bomb loads to drop on enemy targets, they are not supposed to waste all their capacity on carrying guns just to fight other bombers or other aircrafts because they are not maneuverable enough to dog fight. That's what fighters are for. Its just a waste of resources.
Uh, actually, gunshipping was a real thing. Before long range escorts into Germany were available, some B-17s were converted into *_dedicated_* gunships. They didn't even carry a bombload. Just ammunition and more guns. To the point where they actually started reducing the range/endurance of the B-17 because of how much fucking ammo/guns they were carrying.

Now, yeah, bomber vs bomber aerial engagements like this dumb anime weren't a thing, but the concept of a bomber being used as a gunship was.

No, actually the schrage musik was very good but was used almost only by the German and only in night battle, so the enemy bomber couldn't see it approach

No it is actually pretty ingenious. Allied bombers in ww2 had pretty good self defense coverage except for in area in front and below the bombers. The Germans would equip special night fighter planes with radar and sneak up in front of bomber wings and unload their payload whilst being out of their field of fire.

@@hmshood9212 Yeah I thought so too, but the first pressurised cabins were introduced on the B29, and even then you'd need to be pretty confident in not getting shot at any significant amount, which at best makes these guys incompetent given enemy planes are clearly attacking them.

Unless, of course, as seen here, the enemy is sending their bombers so far away that they're unescorted.

Thanks for reminding me - but although being German I have no detailed information as to which blueprints and technical details have made their way across the ocean and what was not passed on, the "Schräge Musik" was first tested as early as late 1942, so I see no reason why the Japanese shouldn't have known about it. As you are certainly aware there is also a factor called "friendly" espionage...
