    We've updated this video! The previous version stated that urobilin is responsible for the brown color of feces. Well, in fact, it's stercobilin that's responsible for the brown color of feces. It also later implied that urobilinogen was responsible for darker colored urine, where actually it should have said urobilin was responsible for the darker colored urine.

      Thanks! It really hurt to take our old Jaundice video down. It gave us so much traffic! That said it's more important for us to be accurate than it is to be popular.

    • @nnenauchendu8681
      @nnenauchendu8681 8 лет назад +6

      According to Goljan audio lectures, urobilin is still the pigment that colors the feces. Except that it's given the fancy name "Stercobilin". "sterco" meaning stools. Stercobilin has the same composition and chemical properties as urobilin. So someone who says urobilin gives color to stools isn't wrong.

    Just a quick note, there are two types of Crigler Najjar syndromes: Type 1 is what is described in the video. Type 2 is characterized by reduced UGT activity but different from Gilberts because CN Type 2 is rarer and Gilbert's affects the promoter for enzyme whereas the Type 2 affects the gene that encodes the enzyme

    @osmosis I have an addition to make. Albumin does not "shuttle" unconjugated bilirubin to the liver. There is the albumin-unconjugated bilirubin complex, as well as free unconjugated bilirubin in the blood. Those 2 form an equilibrium. The free unconjugated bilirubin moves passively from the capillaries into the interstital space around the hepatocytes. On the hepatocyte, a transporter called Organic anion transport protein exchanges unconjugated bilirubin for cl- ions. Unconjugated bilirubin is then brought (idk how) to the ER of the hepatocyte where UGT acts upon it as described in your video etc.

    i loooovvveee your videos. they are very very very helpful. you have such a great ability to explain the concepts , simplify them and put'em all together in short videos . i really learned a lot, your videos are plentiful, easy to learn from and the illustrations make them entertaining . i'd throw away all my books and just follow your channel. i wish you could create more and more of them.
