I've broken several reaction sun shells in 4L60Es - including the 'better' aftermarket units from Sonnax. And this was in a stock-ish Sierra 5.3. Makes me not trust the 60s much for even a stock application. If I were throwing power at it, I'd be on the 4L80E path.
4l60s are sorta weak stock but they are lighter than 80s so drag racers have been using them and theres enough billet parts and and shafts and stuff they can be bulletproof.
Most drug dealers who are smart drive beater cars so that it doesn't draw attention to them the ones flashing money around always gets caught 🤦♂️😂😂😂😂😂

Hell yeah, exactly what I suggested on the last video - new heads on old block, new computer, new frame, scrap both old bodies, shit this thing is going to be cheap!
I am so exited about this build!!! There are so many frame swaps for the Ford's but now that I see there are options for the GM platform I'm ready to get my feet wet!!! Keep this type build coming PLEASE.
I was looking at ideas for a 1999+ Silverado/Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon frame swap on a C10 but I would never have thought to look at Envoy's. Thank you so much for the idea.
Trevor I am swapping a 72 Stepside on doing Envoy frame from an Excel. All you have to do is remove 14in out of the center of the frame very simple and if you look at the frame worth welding together you can actually cut and weld it together like they do at the factory remove the 14in and you have a perfect wheelbase length. PM me if u want more info and pics
I'd go 4l80... You can build a 4l60 to handle those numbers but a stock 4l80 will handle that sort of power just fine and with a shift kit it's something like 650-750. Be sure to run a decent transcooler and you'll be fine. Keep in mind a 4l80 will bolt up but you'll still need a few things to make it work. There's plenty of write ups on it though.. It isn't terribly difficult
Since the new 4200 is blown, I’d do the twin turbo 4.8 you mentioned personally. The 4200 is a cool engine, but I think it would suit a camaro or firebird better than a truck
Trevor if this doesnt work, a 71-72 c10 has disc brakes/ and a more flatter frame and most of them do have a coil spring 4 link style setup! Older c10's have like a flat frame, stoked to see this though!!!
I’d save the firewall at least, and probably the front floors for the trans tunnel, just weld it all into the truck cab, then you have the whole dash and all the mounts for the wiring, AC, steering, brakes, ect
You can make the trailing arms longer to fix the wheel base and longer arms could help with rear end geometry. Be relatively easy to build your own with poly bushings.
Beast sun shell and get some extra clutch type rebuild kit especially the 3/4. You can machine down the pistons to fit some more clutch. 99% of them fail at the 3/4 clutches and the reaction sun shell cracking. Might as well put a shift kit and a servo upgrade
Assuming this is a trailing arm truck (63 onward depending on the package and spec sheet) -63-70 have the same ball joints but you could convert to a 71-72 ball joints and their brake assembly or just buy a cheap conversion kit for the 63-70 for 600 which includes a booster -New spring and shock kit Power steering box of any 69-87 gm truck chassis (c10, blazer, suburban used or new these things rarely die) -Adapter plate to mount it Your factory drag link should work fine and your donor ls I'm sure will have a pump on it. Shorten the column shaft and there's your steering problem fixed. 10/12 bolt rears there's a million brake options out there for cheap If it isn't a trailing arm chassis you'd only need a trailing arm crossmember and some arms, I have swb arms laying around I'd ship to you at cost. And you'd need a shock cross member (I'd just buy a relocation kit) you'd want that route either way. The upper spring simply bolts through the lower portion of the frame rail.. If you really wanted it I'd ship you the used oem arms, used shocks and lowering springs, u bolts and all hardware at the cost of shipping.. Otherwise they'll go on fbmarket for a week then the dumpster.
Oh and 63-66 have the same chassis as a 67-72. You can pretty much rob stuff off any later year truck with little and often times no modification. 4 link on that chassis imo isn't really worth it over the trailing arms, it just happens to be that there's only one trailing arm coilover kit because 4 link is simply easier to manufacture. There's a new company called react suspension they make a rear coilover conversion for like 450 w/o coilovers, you could copy their kit for next to nothing. It's easily the cheapest price on the market for a solid product. Geometry isn't the best but it's equivalent to a standard 4 link coil position w/o the extra links basically. On my 70 c10 I run a suspension setup like pchrods c10r, aftermarket trailing arms with coilover tabs welding to the top of the arm just behind the axle tube perch and a shock tower bar. If you want a bed floor this probably isn't something you'd want, just throwing it out there. Bottom line is that chassis assuming it's a trailing arm setup has really solid geometry from the start. You don't need to spend the 10k plus on suspension like the rest of us do with protouring, we're just going for the best handling imaginable, it's nice to whoop modern day weapons of vehicles. Minor upgrades and it'll handle like a dream, I'd just hate to see you swap to a chassis with no real aftermarket support. Either way it's a cool project.
If you want to try to prolong the life of that 4l60e there are Orifices that you can drill out on the separator plate to help with the shift quality. Easy and free not saying it will make it hold up to gobs of power but it will help. You could also change the band servo to the one out of a corvette which changes the firmness of the 1-2 shift. Check out Sonnax they have alot of good info
You can build that 4L60. The main thing you need to do is get a high strength sun gear. That's the weak part because it's just aluminum. But if you're in that far you'd be dumb not to do clutch packs and such.
The nice thing about the trailblazer is the different factory configuration. Between the Atlas I6 or a LS, plus AWD being an option. Also the Trailblazer SS guys have a pretty good handle on suspension and drivetrain mods. So how long till you AWD swap it?
MotionAutoTv get a corvette servo and a corvette torque converter and it should handle 400 hp just get a servo from the same year corvette or you can 4l80e swap it but dont know if factory trans controller will work
4L80e has a built in bell housing. I don’t know if that motor has the standard Chevy bell housing. Check it with the LS, I’d it’s the same just throw a 4L80e in it and save time and headache
The front wheels of a c10 are too far forward or backward I think in the wheel wells and custom shops will fix that so the truck looks better. So I think your good for wheelbase on the frame. You'll have to look and see if I'm right.
Honestly between hotchkiss and other suspension companies that are making parts for the c10 frame I would stick with it. More aftermarket availability. You want drop spindles theres some made specifically for it. You want suspension, sway bars brakes? Theres some for it. I'm sure theres 12 bolts that bolt in. there were control arm trucks that are basically 4 link... stick with the c10 frame.
@@carguyty9370 you can do a lot more than just weak stock discs on them. And yes it would cost more to go crazy with it but theres tons of aftermarket suspension support for them. Unless trailblazer ss stuff has a hidden market I've only heard of a few things for them. And that's for a what 4,500 pound SUV not a truck with barely any weight on the rear. You can go as crazy as you want with putting suspension in it but the aftermarket support is a pretty big deal... you guys are gonna go whatever route you want but🤷♂️
Awesome keep going! Maybe would have been better to start with a performance sub, like a scrapped chevy trailblazer ss.... but those parts might swap over later, unsure if they are interchangeable
Looks great. I would get the frame and engine all set up before permanently attaching the body. But it will be pretty cool. What are you going to do for gauges ?
this is why i like this channel because you don't just order a bunch of parts and bolt them in you do custom shjt like this
This is the type of project that i like the most. connecting old school with modern tehnology ! great work !!
Let's just take a moment to appreciate how much better the shop looks.....room for days now! 👌
Welcome to C10 build: Part 92. Finally finished primer.
I hated the frame swap idea until i saw the frame sitting next to it. Ill give you the credit that it makes lots of sense. Good luck
I left Cleetus McFarland for this. Love Travis customs 🛃
Trevy's 😁
Hopefully this idea doesn’t get scrapped like the fwd LS sab

Im so hyped for this build!!
Me three just cause I also have the same truck
Never thought I would be this excited to see a '08 Envoy but here we are.
Whew I’m getting a lot of long ads! But I watch them for you, Trevor.
Some of these youtube's ads are getting out of control. Had one pop up a couple weeks ago that was 7.5 hours.

Everyone knows the body is the only thing worth saving on these trucks. Great start, waiting to see where it goes from here.
I absolutely love the direction of this build. A modern boosted Chevy i6 and suspension in a factory i6 truck rocks

So jealous of you no salt guys, that frame is so clean.

The 4200 is an overlooked and underrated engine. There are guys making 800hp on stock short block
was looking forward to see this c10 with a sr20 powering it. something different I guess
Benson G I love the SR but I feel like it wouldn't make enough low end TQ for this truck. Any idea what this truck weighs?
I'm glad you went this route!
I can already see y'all at the Burn Yard with it 😜🙏🏿
I’m pumped about build, but I’m more pumped about the 80’s time lapse music! 🤙🏾
You made the right choice Trev, the votes on that last video would have made like all the other trucks with LS swaps.
Cant wait to see the c10 on the new frame. Great update Guys.

I cant even tell you how much I love this build! Definitely my favorite so far
4L80e, TH400, TH350, 700R4 will all bolt right to the back of that engine. The only difference is you will need a flywheel adapter if going to a TH.
Very original too,no one else is doing something like this rn
I'd go 4l80... You can build a 4l60 to handle those numbers but a stock 4l80 will handle that sort of power just fine and with a shift kit it's something like 650-750. Wouldn't drive well though. They just don't make enough torque.
Could still swap if it doesnt work out with the 4200 still needs the frame swap done
That's true would need pretty hyped up to get it moving well but would sure be awesome, or another 2jz 😂

I agree, there's some wheel centering wiggle-room, to make the C10 live in it's new home. It'll look perfect.

Envoys/ trail blazers use a different bellhousing on the 4.2l
Daniel Whetzel, wouldn't the bell housing just mount onto the 4L80, though? I may be wrong
