@@bradhaines3142 with a car, tall gearing, a 6 speed, and a tune. This will get you above 30, weight reduction and aero can push you over 40 likely. A c5 corvette would be ideal for this, or a miata.
My best opinion to anyone, get a donor vehicle. You will have 80% on what you need. The 20% remaining will be 100% easier to figure out due to everything you will have due to the donor.
I like the idea of a wrecked donor vehicle and using everything oem possible. Harness, cluster, ignition switch, computer, fuel system, evap system, exhaust, radiator, airbox, etc.. To me the biggest things would be how you do the exhaust fabrication and the big one, electrical system. On a gm vehicle maybe you could integrate the system into one, but on most swaps i would imagine it would be easier to have a split system, to have the gm computer for the engine, and keep original pcm/bcm in a newer car for everything else. You could try to make original cluster work, or make gm one fit. I like the idea of having the stock column/ignition switch to control accessory power and starter/lights, and then have the gm ignition switch dash mounted like some old cars, which would just be used for antitheft and engine run mode. And keeping the obd2 port would be nice.
Good video. I swapped the old TBI 305/700r4 out of my '87 K10 in favor of a built 400HP carbureted 350/thm400. A lot of what you said even rang true for my "swap". Mount, bolt trans up, plumb wiring, plumb fuel, double check and done. I enjoyed the specifics you went into for trans and wiring options. Aside from those specifics this can really apply to swapping just about any engine into any vehicle. What's mind boggling, is that most of the people asking about LS swapping... have probably never swapped any engine into any vehicle before so even though this information is SO broad and SO basic it helps understand what the different stages of changing out an engine are; even if its the same engine going back in! Informative video.
For a Tesla LS swap you need a flux capacitor You can buy one at o'reilly auto parts make sure to buy the upgrade it 1 that generates a 121 jigga Watts
Great video and explanation by far the best one I’ve seen. I have a donor suburban 5.3 swapping into a 79 el Camino not my first rodeo on swapping motors but it will definitely be my first ls swap so excited.
I think the video answer's a lot of questions at least it did for me I got more answers than from any of the other ones I have watched or asked the wiring was my main problem ever one else said I had to buy a harness which I am sure is easier but it is also 700 dollars I can solder a few wires together a lot cheaper than that
Ar5 from a Colorado is a stout 5 speed transmission that’s proven. $419 adapter with a 4l60e bell housing and a T56 clutch. You can get all that less than a grand but still way cheaper than a t56.
If you aren’t doing one of the more common LS swaps, and you know you’ll be doing a good amount of fab, I totally recommend a mock-up engine. Mine is from a company called P-Ayr. It’s a blessing to be able to set it in and remove it from the vehicle easily by hand. I’ve used mine on a few LS swaps now. My plan was to use it then sell it, because it was a bit pricey and the resale value is good. Nope. Once you buy it, you’ll wanna keep it for future endeavors.
When I bought it, it was about $450. If you use it and sell it, you can probably get most your money back. But, if you plan on doing multiple builds, I’d just keep it. It’s super lightweight, and has metal threaded inserts in all the correct locations to mount items to the engine. I currently have mine bolted to a trans, and with an intake/carb, water pump, oil pan and starter on it.
I just bought a 98’ camaro with an LS1 (aluminum block 5.7) and T56 6 speed manual as a donor car for an LS swap. I’m trying to put it in a 1970 Chevy nova
Thanks man, it was quite the deal. The car was hydroplaned into a tree and the rocker panel got bashed in. Car still runs and drives great besides the steering but hey it only costed $2000
A 4L80e does not just swap in later!!!!! Some of us have to cut the trans tunnel out and build a new one to fit that huge transmission! Then rebuild the interior. So building a strong 4L60e is MUCH cheaper in the long run, right! Or do you know someone who does interiors really cheap. Like a case of beer cheap. Other than that , you did a good job!
It depends on the power your making. A 4l60e will not be reliable no matter how much you build it past 600hp so in the long run making the 4l80 fit might be worth it
True enough. I already enlarged the tunnel to fit the 4l60 in my mighty max. There is not any room.. Maybe with the new chassis I built the 4L80 will fit? Right now I am only pushing 450hp, so I believe I am safe for a while. Have a great day and Thanks for the reply!

Wow. You just spent 20 minutes complaining about people asking you about the swap, but somehow managed to not answer any of the questions that matter. How about that Oil pan clearance issue? The alternator that bangs up against the frame issue? floorboard modifications?
And you spent 20 minutes watching it and couldnt figure out that those are specific issues and this is a general video. The stock oil pan and alternator mounts worked for me. Obviously they wont work in every car. Notice how I didnt talk about exhaust either?
@@standardissue3903 If your oil pan doesn't clear you cut it or buy a muscle car pan. If your alternator doesn't fit you buy another bracket. there you go
Not saying this isn't a very good video about info on ls swaps. But but since u went into indepth about different transmissions lol like auto th350 th400 4l60e 4l80e manual nv4500 nv3500 t56 ect. Hey Jovani, Thanks for the vids on the LS motors....just a quick question for you. I just picked up a LS1 out of a 2002 Corvette with 125k, it is completely.stock...was wondering what quick upgrades you would do if you were working with this motor? I would like to keep it naturally aspirated. I was thinking a hot cam for sure, but just dont know which one would give me the most power Increase. Was also thinking of changing the rockers and springs. What do you suggest?
Cheap extra power without sacrificing the integrity if this came out of a base Corvette would be a ZO6 cam, cold air intake, and long tube headers. That would take it from the 350 HP to over 400 and you won't have to worry about changing the springs and stuff. And with it being an O2, the intake manifold and everything is exact same between a base and a ZO6 so that doesn't need to be changed.
@@pikkons thank you....I got installed a summit stage 2 cam, dual valve springs, 1 3/4 long tube headers and a cold air intake.....so hope to get above 400 hp.....keeping my built th400 behind it as well.
As a person that starting to learn more about Chevys my father was always a fan of Chevys I would like to know if the LS is a better option than buying a small block or big block
It depends really. Some will argue yes or no. I say yes, it's lighter, can be built to be more powerful and more efficient, it's also more complicated though. Big blocks are expensive, as well as small blocks so it's really up to you how you want to go
I have a 2010 Range Rover Sport HSE with 143,000 miles. I’d rather have a different engine and transmission for sure. I love the body and interior of the Rover

Yeah, but can I put an LS into my Porsche 911/996, which needs an engine swap because I was stupid and blew out my IMS bearing (and thus the whole case)? @@JovaniDanteGriego no but could have been shorter and number 1 it's very obvious. Of course you need an ls engine to do an ls swap. @@bradhaines3142 with a car, tall gearing, a 6 speed, and a tune. This will get you above 30, weight reduction and aero can push you over 40 likely.
A c5 corvette would be ideal for this, or a miata.
my second time watching. excellent video. thanks
5.3 ✅ Miata ✅ cash....needed 😆
Great video!
Thanks man I appreciate it! The miata is going to be rad!
Hey thanks for the feedback! Yea it really is applicable to almost any swap. At the end of the day all youre doing is piecing a puzzle together
Great job brother 😁👍 really enjoyed it
I’d like to swap a turbo’d LS into a tesla, what do I need?
For a Tesla LS swap you need a flux capacitor You can buy one at o'reilly auto parts make sure to buy the upgrade it 1 that generates a 121 jigga Watts
A Tesla, an LS, a turbo, some paper clips, a roll of packing tape and set of fluffy dice. Job done.
A "Turbo LS" sticker and fake muffler tips.
An ls for one and at least one battery mayby a rear end
You need a engineer lol
Very informative video. I apologize for all the ass biscuits that where rude. Thank you for your time and knowledge.
I dont worry about them, thanks for the comment!
A lot of people in the comments completely missed the point.

Can I do an ls swap for a 08 tsx? Do I need the LS and do I need the 08 tsx? Also what's an LS swap?
LSX in a Acura tsx? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣would love to see that

Please do a video on the wire harness. I have a 5.3 with everything including trans. It has the red and blue harness connectors. Thanks
Lt1swap.com has the wiring
thanks for sharing your knowledge, im trying to learn as much as possible to do a ls swap
No problem. Thanks for watching!
Appreciate the basic info. on LS swap. Just transitioning from carb to fuel injection builds! Trying to educate myself on what I am getting into.
Great video and explanation by far the best one I’ve seen. I have a donor suburban 5.3 swapping into a 79 el Camino not my first rodeo on swapping motors but it will definitely be my first ls swap so excited.
Nice! I love El Camino's !
I don’t know why this video doesn’t have 1m+ views.

@Beyblade420 ruclips.net/video/DucuEkh9yJE/видео.html
Great video, i appreciate it your videos are helping me with my LS swap for my 87 caprice
Thats a great idea! How much was the mock up?
When I bought it, it was about $450. If you use it and sell it, you can probably get most your money back. But, if you plan on doing multiple builds, I’d just keep it. It’s super lightweight, and has metal threaded inserts in all the correct locations to mount items to the engine. I currently have mine bolted to a trans, and with an intake/carb, water pump, oil pan and starter on it.
I love His Reality Check!
I have an 02 Silverdildo, they 4.slow is toast, I’m gathering knowledge here
Great video, thank you for making this. Very informative! I'm currently looking to swap my formerly boosted 3.7l Mustang to a turbo ls
How did it go still working on it?
I just bought a 98’ camaro with an LS1 (aluminum block 5.7) and T56 6 speed manual as a donor car for an LS swap. I’m trying to put it in a 1970 Chevy nova
Nice. That's a solid setup
Thanks man, it was quite the deal. The car was hydroplaned into a tree and the rocker panel got bashed in. Car still runs and drives great besides the steering but hey it only costed $2000
Thanks man! Im an old school guy that has been resistant to the LS swaps. Very Inspiring video
New subscriber I love the knowledge keep going
Thank you!
I appreciate the vid bro!!! Looking forward to more in the series, don't worry about the length. The details need to be covered and I learned a lot.
just ls swapped my moms toyota sienna, thanks.
Had to be in the same era also. Not any old 80 will work. I went through 3 4l60es lol
very informative video i did a 6.0/4l85e swap into an 81 c10 and wish i would of seen this prior. now about to venture into a 90 c1500 using 5.3l and the NV3500. keep up the good work brother.

Great vid man. Ignore the hate. :)
Thanks!
@@JovaniDanteGriego Those aren't specific issues. Those are common issues with a large number of swaps.
But u didnt mention 350z trans. I've heard it's a good trans to swap and 6spd. It seems pretty popular now. I dont remember the model numbers but its basically a 350z g25 ect trans and has really good gear ratios for ls swaps
@@JovaniDanteGriego muscle car pan is the worst recommendation. You might as well run a truck pan at that point. F Body or Holley 302-2 are more universal.
Where did you get a fine Italian name like that ! Any way great video of an last swap it told me exactly what I needed to get my frontier going with a 4.8 gmc separate motor going THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEOS. BY the way it was the computer I was lacking when I got that and the correct wiring harness and adapter it fired right up Your a lifesaver Thanks again. It runs like a RAPED APE. ALSO I WENT WITH THE 4 L 60 trans
🤌🤌 I got it from my father. But I'm only Italian by name. 🤌🤌 Lol but awesome job. Thanks for watching !
Just got me a 5.3 ... my first swap 😁
Hell yea!!
Great job very informative don’t pay any Attention to the haters
I’m working on pulling out a 5.3 out a Tahoe, gonna be swapping it in my 88’ Chevy Silverado. Gonna be my first ls swap, so it’s gonna be a learning curve.
Just try to have all your parts together before you start. Good luck!
What about the fuel pump and gas tank for the car. Doubt the oem fuel system from the OG car won't work if you just only do this. While using a whole new harness
I have tons of in depth info on all of this on my channel
Hey Jovani,
Thanks for the vids on the LS motors....just a quick question for you.
Looking forward to doing an ls swap on my 70 monte carlo. Might go with the ls1
Im putting a6.0 ls and 4l60e first gen in 1989 gmc k2500

As a person that starting to learn more about Chevys my father was always a fan of Chevys I would like to know if the LS is a better option than buying a small block or big block
It depends really. Some will argue yes or no. I say yes, it's lighter, can be built to be more powerful and more efficient, it's also more complicated though. Big blocks are expensive, as well as small blocks so it's really up to you how you want to go
Basic & str8 to the point but informative for a beginner who wants to know a few tips ....thumbs up 👍🏿
I’m brand new to the American muscle. Just bought me an 01 Tahoe 5.3 LT. 203k miles, what can, should I do?

Gotta start somewhere
Thnks my friend for this info, I planning to work on my 89 chevy c2500 thnks for this upload stay safe🙏
What about driveshaft, and diffs?
Thats all vehichle specific. If yours wont hold I mean theres the ford 8.8 or gm axles
I have a 2010 Range Rover Sport HSE with 143,000 miles. I’d rather have a different engine and transmission for sure. I love the body and interior of the Rover
Great video! I was wondering what would be the simplest turn-key swap you could make. Thanks for taking the time and clearing up some basic things! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
The 4l60e comes with extra neutrals
I have a 99 LS1 with a nv3500 5 speed transmission the flywheel and clutch is off a 4.8 99 Silverado eBay sales the cheapest standard wiring kits as long as you have a computer to flash I'm keep mind injected.
I know several vehicles that need one that not a lot of people would expect...the 2018 Buick Regal TourX Wagon, the 2018 Opel Insignia GSi Sport Tourer, the 2018 Vauxhall Insignia GSi Sport Tourer, the 2018 Holden Commodore VXR, and the 2018 Buick Regal GS.

Yeah, but can I put an LS into my Porsche 911/996, which needs an engine swap because I was stupid and blew out my IMS bearing (and thus the whole case)? [Naw, just kiddin'--I've only just blown some sort of coolant pipe on the 911 and not the engine...yet] This is very helpful, because I need something to replace the godawful AMC V8 on a '89 Grand Wagoneer. Some vehicles needs a mount kit for the LS engines 700R4 is a good transmission. They're not good for big horse power but for 400 horse power they works fine. If you gonna drive normally and not dog it out I've used them.

You expect all this knowledge in 2 minutes?
@@JovaniDanteGriego no but could have been shorter and number 1 it's very obvious. Of course you need an ls engine to do an ls swap. It be dumb if people tried and do an ls swap without the ls engine. Intake, accessory drive , motor mounts, oil pan what type of throttle body dbw dbc, ecm tuning, most importantly what car will the engine be going in will determine what you should be planning for
