I love how only a father understands the way their young children talk. I remember it very well from when my kids were young. Enjoy the TIMING of all of this.
Michael im about to have a baby boy . Im looking for a 1981 chevy pickup to tear it up and start from scratch, basically by the time he can drive id want to have this built. Ur comment caught my attention, look at this guy with his little boy, love how he explains to his kido !!!
I'm glad you appreciate having your kids around. Not every man can see how much it means to everyone involved. To be fair this is my first video/impression on your channel. Thank you for your efforts/time.
I give lots of credit, having the kids running around while trying to figure out what's wrong with the truck . Definitely off timing . But it will fire up . Good luck . 👍. I subscribed. Love his energy .
"There's a mouse in your in your truck" me: aw poor kid little young to see death "Theres an elephant in your truck" Me: well... now we have bigger problems
Came for the build and was surprised to see how involved you kept your kids. Wish my dad and me got along so we could work on my builds together instead of him hating it:/ keep it up dude they'll grow up with memories to tell there friends about when they're older
That's so cool to see the kids. I remember anytime I helped my dad I always remembered how our bond got stronger. Now I've got a 3 year old and she's a master tech with a socket wrench
I love how your boys were "helping" by losing lug nuts, etc. You're a good papa, keeping your cool so well. Enjoy your time with your little ones. They'll be grown up before you even know it.
Chevy firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. That is even written across the intake on most. So easy to get it in time. Take number one plug out put your thumb Over the Hole have somebody bump it over until your thumb gets blowed off. Once that is done turn the crank until your balancer is on zero with the timing mark. Make sure the piston is up not down with a screwdriver! Then drop your distributor in pointing at number one cylinder if it does not drop in the whole way just pick up slightly and keep rotating the rotor button l until it drops in facing number one cylinder this may take a few tries but it will keep dropping down in and it will be off but if you keep just lifting up a little bit and turning the rotor button it will eventually fall in on number one what you're doing is turning the drive on the oil pump to match with the cam. Good luck it's easy all it takes is a little bit of patience.
By the way you want to turn the rotor button clockwise same as the rotation of the firing order is clockwise. Make sure you don't have the plug wires mixed up either!
A few things of note. 1. Your intake manifold if a spreadbore style, intended for the GM stock Quadrajet and your Carb I believe to be a squarebore, as I don't recall Edelbrock releasing aftermarket carbs in a spreadbore configuration. 2. As others pointed out you're probably 180° off on your timing. You have to ensure the distributor is put in at #1 TDC of the compression stroke, pull the spark plug and ensure the #1 is in compression by sticking your finger over the plug hole, you will fell compression building. When you're dropping in your distributor ensure the tip of the distributor rotor is pointing at the #1 cylinder, this will allow the ease of plug wiring. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 ensure the plugs are in the correct order, a general "starting point" is pointing the vacuum advanced canister at #6. For a good Video on this check out Myvintageiron7512's video (ruclips.net/video/O4WRL513Gx4/видео.html) 3. Also, to ensure the nylon bushing don't get tore up prematurely check your door hinge bushings for slop by opening the door and lifting up, if the door moves around without moving the body of the truck you need to replace the bushings, it's a bit of a PITA but cheap and highly recommended. Or you can replace the whole hinge which isn't too expensive but unless you paint them they'll be a bit of an eyesore IMO
That's a beautiful moment Father and Son together. I know my generation and the younger generation are scared to have kids but having kids in your twenties is the best. When they are teenagers, you're still not that old and still able to build a strong bond. Maybe having kids in late teens it's not a good idea but when I look at those family, they look like a beautiful young family.
Your brother was one of my football coaches and I had no idea that you had this RUclips channel till he shared it on Facebook! Now I’m binge watching all the videos! 😂

This was nice to watch. I miss my little man being that little watching me work on the bike or car! Time flies man! They pick up on everything so fast! Love and cherish every moment. God bless
The TIMING of this video was a huge coincidence. I've been watching Garage Garage (hoonigan) and a couple other people and their C10s I was looking into them and found most of them in the condition yours is in were still around 5k, so you got a great deal! Should be able to get drop blocks, flip kit and lower the torsion bars to get some low low on it!

Every time buddy!! Timing all the way!! I could definitely help you out with setting the timing on that square body!! First you don’t have to take valve cover off just take the number 1 plug out!! The firing order is 18436572 driver side very front one is 1 then next one back towards the cab is 3 then 5 & 7 passenger side very front one is 2 then 4,6&8!! Hopefully that will get you started! On your distributor when you drop it in you want the rotor pointing towards number 1 plug in the block!! & the terminal on top of the cap right above the pointer on the rotor is where you start your spark plug wires!! & that is where you start with the number 1 plug wire going clock wise on top next is 8,4,3,6,5,7,2!!! Now if it back fires threw the carb like it did in this video you have the distributor 180 degrees of!! Hopefully that will help you!! Oh & yes timing!!
Great video. Awesome that you have your kids involved. They will remember these times when they grow up. Just bought my 87 suburban to spend time wrenching on something with my boy. Good times!!!

Something I have done since I was a young person first helping my dad on cars is. The wheel that gets taken off gets slid under the car until the work is done. Like an extra safety check
Nice build dude, keep it up and give your little hotrodders around cars. I didn't have a dad to do that with, and it gets me misty eyed seeing someone else doing that. Awesome channel and great editing 👍
Yup, timing is 180 deg,.out, pull#1 plug and valve cover, turn by hand with finger over plug hole...make it fart on your finger to find compression stroke and watch valves close. TDC. point vacuum advance at #1, install distributor and you should have base timing. Timing light will be needed for final setting. Good luck. Dad time with the boys, outstanding. Stay safe.
Good video and good project. Your timing is off for sure. Just take out #1 spark plug, bump crank engine with your finger over the hole to feel the pressure when it is on compression. Take distributor out and reinstall with rotor contact pointing to the #1 wire terminal of the distributor cap. Leave distributor hold down a little loose and start engine. Then set timing to specified initial advance by rotating the distributor and watching the strobe of the timing light.
I've been daily driving a 77 Buick Skylark with a 307 in it and 57K on the odometer for the last 15 years, I bought the car from the lady next door who bought it new in 76 and sold it to me for $800 when she got too old to drive anymore. The Original idea was to "fix it up" and use it as a Cruise-in/Car Show car but after giving it a once over I realized other than needing the headliner redone because of some slight sagging and fixing a couple of tiny rust holes behind the rear wheel wells and some touch up paint I decided I would sell my daily driver (a 99 Dodge Avenger) and just start driving the Skylark. I spent right at $1100 on the initial investment, counting sales tax, tags and insurance , on the car after a real good clean up of the engine bay, changing the fluids and air filter and a couple rattle cans of pint for the engine, headers, air cleaner, steel wheels and a set of cheap baby moons . This summer my son and grandson and I are going to pull the engine and trans and completely rebuild both and i'm thinking about throwing a budget paint job on it because the original paint is getting kinda worn out. In 15 years I still have less than $2500 in into it not including gas, Insurance and tags and I don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon. I LOVE my car. I'm glad to see the younger generation is getting back into that mind set instead of putting themselves into debt with a $400 a month car payment every month on a car that is a throw away piece of plastic that they will just have replace after 200,000 miles because that's all they are built for now a days. My son and daughter, who are now 30 and 27 were the same way with thier first vehicle, son bought a 84 F-150 and my daughter bought a 75 Mustang II on the cheap off Craigslist when they turned 16, Son still owns and drives his F-150. That a COOL lil Honda Civic Station Wagon sitting in the background btw, takes me back to my childhood, my bestfriends dad had one when I was a kid.
First time seeing a video of yours. Thanks for admitting that you don't know everything and not showing sketchy stuff. It always makes my skin crawl when i see people do dangerous stuff and act like its okay. Some kid could be watching this and find himself in a bad situation. Good video overall look forward to more content.
Everybody is loving those older style trucks. If I was any good with working on stuff myself I'd luv to have a project like this to work on. Are those twins? I thought there was just one until I saw them eating together. :)
Left it up!!Pop the the springs off..Where the spring spirals around cut the top only exactly the way it's shape to begin with...No costs lowering,,Enjoy!!
A little back yard tip on 350 chevy engine is take the number one spark plug out ( looking at engine standing front of truck , right side closest to you) and put your finger over the hole and have someone bump over the engine until your finger blows off and have the rotor button pointing towards the number one cylinder and timing should be pretty close set if you have not done that already

Bro no lie, dad award goes to you man💯 you really see many of those nowadays. Good way to start em off young
The bullet holes add character
Left it up!!Pop the the springs off..Where the spring spirals around cut the top only exactly the way it's shape to begin with...No costs lowering,,Enjoy!!
You've got a cool pit crew. Ricky Bobby couldn't have asked for better guys 👍🏾
Subscribed just cause you let your kids be involved and didn't push em off or edit them out. That's dope as hell.
Subscribed just cos seeing boy's help their daddy made my heart happy.
15x10 on c10s....always old school 😎
Cool truck. Although, I am really holding out for the next wagon build. Keep making the great content and keep including your kids in the builds.
Kids make life better. I love when my little girl helps me makes the job that much more fun. Best part of the video 12:44 😆
I'm truly inspired, Dad! I have an 86 square body and am about right where you are with my build. Good luck with the timing.
And the best dad of the year award goes to....BUILT OFFICIAL
them kids are everything.. loved it man..
You
are a great father good to see that's still a thing
