Why on earth would you ignore an evacuation order, especially when you have kids? You're not only risking your family, but the safety of others who won't be able to get help from the rescuers.
So many people can't afford to evacuate, it's not like Florida pays to put families up in hotels or pays for their gas to leave. Most people don't WANT to stay behind when a mandatory evacuation order has been put in place.

Agree, they go thru this annually, it's not a surprise. They need to PLAN way ahead of time, save money & establish a route of where to go for a week when the mandatory evacs are in put out. This "wait & see attitude" is a big problem and they they expect first responders to just figure out a way to get to them, risking THEIR lives.
