The stress is taking a toll. I can't imagine how difficult it is on others in their 80's whose homes are in worse shape. I wad a bit off on his age...88!

Irwin and Greene counties are loosely intermingle with the tri cities of Bristol, Johnson City, And Kingsport. I heard that Newport (about 15 miles from NC line) got it so bad because of a direct hit when the Waterville dam failed. ❤

Never seen ALL the ways into NC closed off. Interstate 40 is washed out by a dam failure and 26 is flooded and a rock fall has blocked 129 (dragons tail). I am very glad I went to Cherokee while I had the chance.
We need to do better by these folks. So glad that the Governor of, VA and NC were brave enough to allow the First Responders and the National Guard and Reserves to come together in order to help all who were impacted by this event which was frightening.

Please assist the seniors, the sick, the handicapped and the animals. How many pets are often left behind, abandoned by their 'owners' to die totally helpless, a horrendous death? They were certainly not their 'guardians' or 'custodians!
Don't leave you pets behind, always have Enough pet carriers in you house for all of your pets and in a place where they easy to get/and ready to go. Always take any important personal papers / prescribed medication/ and a waterproof bag ready/flashlight too. Having a sturdy small Inflatable boat ready can be practical too if you can't carry all of your pets if the water is to high. Pets should not be forgotten !! Always make a desaster plan with your own family members/ room mates. Have a check list ready if in case panic strikes and makes people forget things. Have every person in your family knowwhat their task is when needed. And when you live in a high risk area and a possible severe weather alert or other disaster is announced beforehand, if you have good contact with your neighbors or possibly even a neighborhood watch team, then organise and practice a neighborhood disasterplan together, so no one remains behind. Including pets ! And especially if you have elderly or disabled family members who don't have any family /friends nearby who might be able to help them, try to arrange something in ther neighberhood,church members etc.. It's sad to see how communities are no longer as close like they used to be and looking out for other people isn't normal any longer. Help each other people ! Praying for everyone affected and for all First aid, search and rescue teams etc.
Lived in Johnson City for 3 months in 1979. A breathe taking area but very little was available for growth back then. Flooding areas were only forrest. Since then so much has changed! I see forrest was cleared. What a shame for these people. May be a few months or 50 to 100 years this will happen again. It is a natural flood area. Know where to build. Know where NOT to have a residential area! Hoping people there will remove themselves from that area.
I haven't heard anything bad from Jonesborough. I live in the area. Trees down, some power outages in JC KP but all the really bad flooding was in Unicoi and Carter County.

At 9:30 - You know your flood water is standing too long, when ducks start coming and feeling at home there. That is what happened to some of my relatives in Indiana a couple of years ago. Some water would accumulate by their house when it rains a lot... but at that time, it just kinda stayed... and the ducks came. It was hilarious. They have since moved from that house.

If it does rain the entire weekend it will be a total devastation to low lying areas but especially to those in basins. It's a lot of small towns in this state with only 1 main way in and out so I am definitely worried about them. Be safe everyone cuz sadly it will get worse before eventually ending this cycle.
