@Despize Perform Gender is how you’re perceived by society; it has nothing to do with ones’ identity. Anything after that is subjective feelings about ones’ identity as a whole. That’s why it’s usually so strongly associated with superficial stereotypes related to gender to start with.
@Despize Perform its "subject" to what you present to the people around you and what they decide to label you... doesn't make it objectively true. Anyone can throw on a wig and smear on some makeup. Some people will think you're just some lady, depending on how convincing you are. Others will think you're a man in a dress, and likely to sexually assault someone. What isn't subjective about that?
@Despize Perform no, that's personal identity. No one feels like a girl or feels like a boy. Society has a roll for you to fill. A place for you to go depending on many characteristics including your personal identity, and what gender you're boxed into. Take a sociology class. Maybe try an anthropology course as well. If you're having gender identity issues, it is completely based on how you want other people to treat you. And just because you want to be treated like a pretty pretty girl or a big tough guy, it doesn't make you actually one or the other. That's a fantasy.
@Despize Perform imagine you slid out of a womb onto a desolate desert island. Would it be possible to feel like you had a gender identity issue? Without anyone around you to convince? You're confusing yourself. I'm not calling gender personal identity. They are distinctly different, which is a bummer for people who want being transgendered to make them interesting. The entire argument is just double think. "Just because I'm a boy, it doesn't mean I have to like the color blue and guns, but if I'm a girl and I like the color blue and guns, I must actually be a boy. I feel it deep down!" These ideas don't come from the individual, they're arbitrarily assigned by your society at large and if you adapt the right and wrong attributes, all of a sudden you got yourself a personal identity that's 'gender fluid'. My thesis is, be who you are. Like what you like. If your genitals are stressing you out, or the fact that you are the sex you were born, that's a terrible mental affliction and you would probably benefit from therapy. Wishing you were a different gender doesn't make it so. SAS and hormone therapy can't magically make you a different gender.
@Despize Perform Gender identity is a social construct that you either buy into, or don't. And if you don't, you never have to mutilate yourself to feel more like another gender because you'd be trying to please others rather than yourself.
I like that she can acknowledge that having masculine or effeminate qualities doesn't automatically make you the opposite gender. A huge problem with modern day gender ideology is that it makes young people confused about themselves.
Yeah bro. Me myself there are many feminine aspects I find appealing, especially hair care.... However, I'm a born and bred man, and will continue to be.
@@shizuwolfWhen I hear many young people speak about gender, they have very rigid ideas of what it means to be male or female. Their views actually reflect the 1950s. They also don't seem to be aware that being gender bending was pretty common in the 1990s through the 2010s. To them, a feminine man or a masculine woman is automatically trans, which is baffling to me, as someone born in the early 1980s.

People confuse "Gender" with personality. There are INFINITE personalities, everyone has a different personality and that is what makes life so beautiful. But what happens is people try to associate their personality and put an official gender name to it, when there is no need to. The fact is, your gender is what you biologically are. Your personality can be whatever you want
Although you can have a biological disconnection with your BODY nothing with personality which makes you transgender but people be identifying as non binary because of their PERSONALITY
I'm pretty leftist or whatever tf it's called but when she said "I think we can advocate for equal rights for trans and intersex people without having to reconceptualise what sex and gender are" that describes it perfectly to me.
but can we? I don`t think so. Gender dysphoria is a serious mental issue which defiantly puts limitations on an individual who has it. So we can talk about compassion and respect towards these people but equal rights are just not achievable.

People need to stop being afraid of activists and cancel culture. We need to start fighting back. I’m with her, I did my psych degree, studied gender studies and minored in family studies. This culture is nothing more than creating it’s own science and being aggressive about it. That’s like musicians creating a wildly different interpretation of music and then attacking the general population of the profession for not liking it.
Gender has moved from tangible measurable metrics of biology, to intangible metrics of personal feelings and opinions. It has transitioned from objective fact to subjective opinion. When your gender is whatever you want it to be, it stops serving an objective purpose.
That is not entirely true, atleast for FTM and MTF transgender people, because many studies have shown that the brain structure of transgender individuals more closely resembles thier gender identity, and in many cases to a T. Yes a Trans Man will still go through women’s puberty. Non-Binary, I will admit, hard to find evidence for or against.

Yup. Actually, I think she's correct that 'non-binary' is the truly erroneous notion in all of this. Male versus female is a chromosomal and binary condition. (The partial exception being intersex conditions - which are not transgender). However, if people choose to distinguish between 'gender' and 'biological sex', that's their perspective - no biggie. But 'non-binary' sex/gender does not really occur in any form of life, and certainly not in mammals. Certain types of fish can genuinely change biological sex, but they become one or the other. To claim a non-binary status is therefore to claim that your condition sets you apart more from other people than it does from fish or reptiles - which simply sounds like what we call 'alienation', not a medical issue. (Excuse wordy reply - the science is all a bit scientific. Lol).

Rogan highlights a good point when he asked her, "How do you feel more masculine?" When ultimately personality traits, at least in the modern world, are no more male or female. Gender is a biological identity, it doesn't extend to our personality anymore, as the the gender roles are fluid in our modern society and either male or female can display traits of aggressiveness or hyper sensitivity... etc So just because a male born individual has the generalised stereotype temperament of a women, doesn't mean they've been born into the wrong body. Both male and females are born with the same spectrum of emotions and capabilities for these temperaments.

I’m a Tomboy and no one has brought up if I could be trans. I honestly think a lot of this gender non conforming stuff is all to do with trends in high school. I saw the same thing when I was a teen (transgenderism wasn’t a thing) but being bi or a lesbian was all the rage. You could tell most of the girls at my school we’re just in it for the “trend” factor 🤦🏻♀️now they are back to being strait and housewives 🤷🏻♀️🤔 I was not happy being objectified as a woman and so strapped down my boobs in high school, I think a lot of women/girls are converting their sex has a lot to do with not wanting to be noticed or objectified on a subconscious level. That’s what was happening to me without realizing it. If transgenderism was I thing when I was a teen I bet I would have convinced myself I want to be male as I didn’t know how to put into words how and what I was feeling. But I’m female and happy to stay that way and to be honest wouldn’t want to be a male as they are the ones that made me feel objectified, made me feel uncomfortable as a female.
When I was a little kid, my closest adults were women - my mother and grandmother. I watched a lot of shows about women and women's lives. I began to pretend to breast feed my teddy bears and I used to do that constantly. My mother and grandmother did not scold me. They did not yell at me or mistreat me. They simply taught me about how women have the ability to feed children with their breasts and men do not. They taught me the difference between the two sexes; the clear and defined biological differences. Over time, I got it. I understood and little by little that childhood phase left me completely. I am a perfectly happy heterosexual cis - gender male with many LGBTQ friends. I support the right of Gay couples to marry. I support the right of trans people to join the military and the right of adults (not children) to choose to transition. I think the notion of allowing children - who literally know NOTHING about who they really are - to dictate whether they should choose to be male or female (or some weird neo-limbo non-binary state) is insane. The thought of what would have happened to me if I were a child living in today's society and my parents would have been a pair of ultra - left "woke" individuals is horrifying to me. If an adult wishes to live as Non-Binary, that is fine. If an adult wishes to use the strange they/them pronoun, that is fine and it is that individual's right. And it IS strange because "they" is a PLURAL noun, NOT a SINGULAR noun. And THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING STRANGE. I have my own strange leans. I like to watch horror movies to sleep. That is STRANGE. I acknowledge this. I accept it. Accept your strangeness and be comfortable with it, but don't pretend that it is the norm. And for G-d's sake, stop trying to muddle the waters for children whose minds need direction. If a child shows signs of transgender identity (as I did as a child), gently and lovingly teach that child the biological differences between the sexes. Reinforce that teaching gently, with love - not with shame. Continue to reinforce it, because it will take time for the child to catch on. If the child reaches adulthood and he or she is STILL convinced that he or she needs to transition, THEN - AND ONLY THEN - as an adult, should the option for a surgical transition be considered.
In the United States it is already illegal to do most gender affirming surgeries on anyone under the age of 18. The sole exception to this are some states which allow breast enlargement or reduction to be performed as young as 16, but this is a simple and easily reversible procedure, and they have to be living full time as their identified gender for years for this to even be an option. The earliest form of medical transition is puberty blockers which delay some effects of puberty (essentially resulting in a more 'androgenous' appearance that can easily present as either gender) and have no permanent effect when the drugs are removed, and they can only be used as young as 10 years old. Very few people start transition this young. Hormone replacement therapy can cause more permanent changes over a long timespan, but the minimum age for that is 16, so when they reach adulthood a person who grew up transgender won't have any irreversible changes to their body. Only on reaching adulthood do more permanent surgeries become an option. And every part of this process requires approval from psychiatrists and physicians. All this outrage about surgeries on grade schoolers or whatever is based on misinformation. As someone who didn't figure out for sure they were trans until several years into adulthood, it would have saved me a lot of grief to grow up in an informed and accepting environment where I would have felt safe to ask questions and experiment with my presentation and, when I was old enough, take medical measures to prevent the now irreversible changes to my body that will cause me distress for the rest of my life.
Your experience isn't identical to everyone else's. You're not trans. That's why your story went where it went. Now just imagine how different your life would have been if you were trans and had to spend years trying to convince yourself that you weren't just to appease your family and everyone else around you. Then when the 2010's roll around and attitudes toward trans people starts to change you finally accept who you are but you are now so far into being a man that the rest of your life will be even more of a struggle as you work to present feminine and have to have conversation after conversation with the people you know just to justify who you are. Then you lose some friends because they think you're insane and maybe even have to cut ties with family members who don't understand you because you never got the chance to express yourself earlier in life. Kinda sucks, right?
@@redveinborneo4673 Your comment is quite confusing. "you are so far into being a man","more of a struggle to present feminine" Can you even define what trans means?
@@fallenstate5933 I think they meant that the trans person was so used to acting like somebody who they weren't, that they couldn't get out of this narrative they built up their entire lives Lemme try to make it a bit clearer with an example- Say a trans man (as in, somebody born a female who identifies as a male) lived their entire life growing up as a girl, trying to ignore how they genuinely felt because they wanted to appease their family, trying to fit in with society, etc. etc. Now suddenly, society has started to change the way they view trans people. They start to be a little more accepting. The trans man may want to fully transition now, since they see an opportunity to live a happy life in a society that won't shame them for their nature. Buuuuut since they grew up as a girl, they might find that to be difficult. They only own feminine clothing, all their friends only know them as a girl, their name might be super feminine, and all of that. It'd take time to buy a whole new set of clothing, to come out to every single one of their friends (who might take it super badly and leave them or worse), and more Does that clear up the confusion? ^^"

i don't understand this ''i feel like a woman or i feel like a man'' , i feel like a man because i am one. Doing things that a man might do, doesn't make you more male it just makes you a woman who enjoys those things.
The whole point is that it's your fucking choice and no one can decide for you, even if you get to the conclusion that it's stupid to feel like a man or vice versa you don't get to decide for anyone else. For people who are all about freedom and who supposedly hate identity politics Americans have a real hard time understand that they can't decide someone else's identity for them.
Darren Fleming what is ‘feeling like a man’? Can you seriously define that for me though? Traditional masculinity and femininity are utter bullshit constructs that are mere ‘spooks’ in most of these people’s world-views, so can you explain to me how one ‘feels’ like a man or woman?
One thing I personally think we should focus more on when raising kids, maybe teaching them in school and making them aware of is that hardly anyone, ANYONE (at least it's what I think, people might not agree), enjoy puberty. I hated puberty, how my body changed, getting a period. I still hate getting my period to this day (I'm 25, got it when I was 11) and I avoid it like the plague whenever I can with birth control (approved by doctors and nurses but besides the point). Going from being a girl to a woman or a boy to man is uncomfortable for most people. A lot is changing and it's difficult to understand. Which is completely NORMAL. Acting like we should all go into puberty enjoying every second and feeling like we're completely in love with our bodies is not the reality for most people. I think this is important to show and tell young teenagers that it takes time to come to terms with. So being a girl and getting your period, boobs, hips etc and feeling like you hate your body doesn't necessarily mean you're trans it just simply means you are a teenager.
Absolutely. The english language is just an arbitrary communication protocol. There is no absolute in an arbitrary communication Protocol. Therefore we can arbitrarily define the word gender to be whatever we want to be.
I am very interested in feminine things, hair, makeup, nails. But I'm a fighter and martial artist at my core. I love guns and fighting. But I also hate dirt and bugs. Personality and interest/disinterest does not determine that I am "gender fluid". My XX chromosomes determined I am female at the time of conception and my physical gender expression in the form of a vagina confirmed that only a few months later.
You can be feminine and still love fighting and guns. In my country, we have this history when an army of the State of Kedah fought against the invading Siamese army. It's estimated that almost half of the Kedah fighting force was female, and this is a Muslim society that place all sorts of limitation on women. In Europe, there's Vikings. A large part of Viking raiders were female. And yet you never heard about masculine female or any issue regarding gender from people at that time.
And what a beautiful form it is.....I identify as Female so this isn't creepy at all because you know thats the way the world works today..Im also just kidding of course.
Nothing in itself is a social construct. Everything is at least partly influenced by the human experience which includes among other things our sex characteristics, our general biology and psychology.
I am really irritated in a way when I hear that the concept of male and female is a social construct. Like, no. Perhaps the roles that you might associate with these terms are, but in general, male and female aren't what you call a person that does certain things in the household. It's about two very different human organisms. One produces semen (male) and the other an egg (female). The male fertilizes the egg and the female gives birth. End of story. Edit: Great, now I feel that my comment is redundant because she says almost the same as I just did. I didn't hear that part when I was typing this.

Ok. She hurt her argument when she said she felt more like a man. What does it feel like to be a man? Perhaps what she meant was that she had more typically male interests. Other than that, I think she is on target. Trans activists, aren't worried about trans people, they're interested in political control & ideology. If they did care, then they would advocate for a more prolonged & holistic preoperative workup. Regardless about how you feel about transgenderism, it cannot be denied that this is a mental problem. It is a mental problem that is only being "treated" with drastic surgery & hormone replacement. That's fine if that's what is needed, but that will make things much worse for the patient if that ends up not being the proper treatment.
You should take puberty blockers and remove the skin off of your body and replace it with clothing and if the doctor says no because it's dangerous you should report the doctor for being transphobic and denying service to trans people, twitter would be proud.

What I'm getting from this is that everything beyond the two genders/sexes is preferences. Example, you are not non-binary you are a woman who doesn't like to wear feminine clothing. I will read Dr. Soh's book, as a sociology major I would be interested in seeing if she touches on the social/community influences of gender.
Correct. Gender and sex are biological. It doesn't change. A woman can be at the racetrack in the morning, with ripped jeans, singlet, swearing, smoking, tattoo on her shoulder, drinking beer, working on the cars with the boys and then chuck on a nice evening dress, do her hair, make up, drink wine, speak eloquently, whilst at the opera with the girls. No need for surgery, no need to call herself something different, she is just a woman all the way.
Isn't saying that you don't like 'typical things' for your sex just an implicit admission that your identity is based on a stereotype of your sex, rather than just being who you are?
time for amazing chest cultural stereotypes are not your friend, My generation was taught to be ourselves and not care about being lumped into some group. Wearing dresses or having long hair or being a nurturing parent are not female or male traits. They are individual traits that fit with male or female stereotypes depending on the culture that the individual is part of...
Think of it this way. Say you're a guy and you wake up tomorrow in the body of Rhonda Rhousey. You could still shoot deer, chug beer, punch a boxing-bag, build a deck, whatever manly shit you want to do. You'd still like all the same things, you're still doing those things ... but you'd still feel wrong in that body. That's the issue here. So it's not a matter of trans people not liking 'typical things' for their sex - because you get men who do 'effeminate' things like wearing full-face makeup while still identifying AS a man. But transwomen often want to do things associated with being a woman because they identify AS a woman. I'm not trans, so I don't have all the answers - but yeah, hope that helps
I've gotten to the point where I just say "There is only biological sex, male and female, and then people have lots of different personalities and behaviors. Gender is a false scientifically-meaningless and medically-useless concept that has done absolutely zero to help society or advance our understanding of the human condition"

"Most intersex people want to live within the binary." I like that this point was validated by a doctor and scientific expert. I'm not intersex myself but so many people speak for them. And they use them in arguments and they project their desires onto them. Some people speak about them like oh, if society were just different, if people were more accepting, intersex people would never want to look less androgynous, they would never feel like they are either male or female, those identities would not be complex enough for what they are. If binary transgender people are valid because the sex they want to be (either male or female) exists, well non binary people are valid because the gender they want to be exists in intersex people. They're not crazy, there really are some people out there who don't look like men or women, or who have two sets of genitals or ambiguous genitals, or unusual secondary sex characteristics, or two types of gonads or whatever. And it's like yeah intersex people's bodies are natural, some of them don't want to pursue any sort of physical changes, and some do not adopt a binary gender identification...and yeah it's wrong to do surgical alterations on them as infants, but it's significant that as a group they are not the example of the complexity of human gender or the example of people who are completely happy looking androgynous.
Wow the only person who sees through this woman’s bullshit. She may be educated, but that doesn’t mean she is correct. No evidence whatsoever was in this clip. I wholeheartedly agree with you.
no, it's not strange. right and left alike generally conflate the distinctions, sometimes on purpose. there are generally two sexes, male and female (though data suggests that we're more mixed biologically than one would think, with clumps of male or female cells in different parts of people's bodies). gender is not biological sex. for you, and the thousands of dumbfucks on here that still can't get it right, i'll say it again: biological sex and a person's gender are not the same fucking thing. go back a hundred years and see that people in the two-gender crowd demanded women not wear pants, not work on cars, not be doctors (and men not be nurses), etc. now women wear pants, fly jet fighters, men are stay-at-home dads. all of those were gender issues, not biological sex. demanding that you look and act a certain way because of your sex is forcing rigid gender roles on biological humans depending on what's between the legs. nearly all americans agree that those rigid roles were bullshit, but many still cling to the "two genders" argument, even though they lost the gender battle last century. there are very masculine males, somewhat masculine males, somewhat feminine males, very feminine males, very masculine women, somewhat masculine women, somewhat feminine women, and very feminine women, and 8 billion other combinations of biological sex and how masculine or feminine you look, dress, act, and choose to live life on planet earth--a fucking veritable gender SPECTRUM.
@@wreckoner2650 Even if I agree that gender & biological sex are completely different & separate; that changes nothing regarding this issue/debate. Here's your problem Jeff; the gender bender advocates/activists are not arguing that gender & sex are different, they argue they are the same. The trans movement is about males competing in female competitive sports. The athletic competitions in our society are separated by sex [by your definition] not gender [by your definition]. Now I fully expect you to reject that assertion, but I'd suggest you explain that to your side. Because that IS the battleground. I never see/hear debates on this where the binary gender proponent is objecting to trans rights as far as Jon being called Jen, or objecting to Jon wearing dresses, or having sex with whoever Jon/Jen wants. I see debates on allowing biological males to win female weight lifting competitions or use shower/bathroom areas for biological females. I see/hear debates about trans being *actual* [literal] females/males. Meaning; the moment Jon tells us he is Jen, he is now literally a woman in absolutely every way. If the trans movement was the same as the gay/lesbian rights movement was we would not be seeing/hearing the debates we are. Sure there would be some pushback from religious zealot types, but that is always true. The conservative/religious faction pretty much fights all societal change. But that's not what we are seeing here. We have seen women's rights giants like Martina[who is also lesbian btw] castigated for suggesting women's tennis will be significantly damaged by allowing males to compete. Todays transactivists hurl insults at feminist leaders for daring to try & protect female spaces from males who simply want to "claim" membership. This fight would already be over if it were simply about your idea of "gender"; social roles, manner of dress, sexual practices, etc. The trans rights activists have made this fight as hard as possible by making anti-scientific claims which are so obviously untrue they throw everyone's common sense into a spin. In other words; if Jon feels he should be a female & live his life as female, no problem. He can become Jen. Wear dresses & makeup. Enjoy the bliss of being referred to with "her" & "she". As well as all the delights afforded to what you would term "gender spectrum". He just cannot go beat up real women [Yes! I said it!] in a cage for $ & trophies.
@@skyeangelofdeath7363good. you seem to understand the gender spectrum. and you end with your opinion, which is your own interpretation/boundaries which fall on a specific place on the political opinion spectrum. many think that “she” should be able to fight females, while many think “she” shouldn’t be called she, nevermind the rest. i don’t have the answer (or, my answer would just be my opinion on the political spectrum). i just want both sides to know wtf they’re talking about when they argue the issue.
Thats what people don’t understand. There are different personality types, not different genders. Different genders are people who are confused about their sexuality who also contribute their behavior to one set thing. They forgot you can have any sexual interactions with anyone and still be a guy or a girl
True, which is exactly what gender is about and a key aspect to the conversation people can't seem to wrap their heads around towards how sex and gender are two separate things.
Animwuah ok, so what you sent me is an argument about being transgender. I agree with a lot of their points, both of them, but thats not an argument for gender and if its malleable. There has always been 2 sexes and sex used to be a synonym for gender. No matter how you feel, you can not change your sex or gender, that doesn’t mean you can’t have plastic surgery and change your name. When you identify as transgender, you are identifying as one of the two genders, and even though you aren’t actually changing your gender, you’re appearing as the opposite sex. Their chromosomes are still the same, and they were either supposed to have the ability to impregnate someone, or be able to make a baby. Thats what a man and a woman is. Gender decides to take a B line though, and completely dismiss everything stated above. It doesn’t matter how masculine or feminine you are, you were either able to make a baby or impregnate someone. “But what about if you’re baron, huh”? You are still either a man or a woman, and you were still born with either XX or XY chromosomes. This is the same with people with down syndrome: they are still a man or a woman and they are no less human than any of us. The amount of chromosomes doesn’t matter, they are still humans born with X and Y chromosomes. The only actual argument for another gender and not taking chromosomes in account is intersex. Other than that, there are only men and women with varying qualities, traits, and interests. You can like who or whatever you want, sexually, objectively, anything, it doesn’t matter, you’re still a man or a woman at the end of the day

How does someone with a doctorate and someone who does research on this kind of thing conflate sex and gender so much and not realise they are two separate things? Also, why are they both so obsessed with being “cancelled” for talking about this stuff. Joe Rogan literally has the biggest podcast in the world and this is Soh’s second time on the biggest podcast in the world. Is this what being “cancelled” is?
I have a hrd time agreeing with this. So one PhD holder, who has admittedly left academia after her findings were called into question (Link: nationalpost.com/pmn/news-pmn/why-rapid-onset-gender-dysphoria-is-bad-science), disputes a central tenet of Gender Studies ie. that gender is not a social construct but directly tied to bioological sex, is enough for you to discredit the entire Academic field? If that's all it takes then some Koch funded "climate scientist" with a PhD in biochemistry stating "ice sheets are growing"would be enough for you to refute climate change? Science requires multiple people with the same or similar findings to create new theories and establish new understandings of the world. What this is 1 person arguing the opposite of established ideas in the field and have everyone agree with her because they want it to be true.
@@getchasome6230 I'm not "cancelling" anything. The fact that she determines herself as masculine but doesn’t appear to give off vibes as masculine shows how people’s perception of themselves can be pretty skewed. Even as a scientist, let alone a general member of the public.
Honestly, I think the terms "masculine" and "feminine" are a little more open to interpretation than sex/gender, simply because what we refer to as "masculine" or "feminine" isn't just physical appearance (which of course is rigidly determined by sex and pretty inarguable), but associative behavior, interests, and thinking, which can vary from individual to individual in more flexible ways than someone's hip-to-waist ratio, bone density, or musculature etc. I think this explains her answer; if you come across a guy who's into ballet, for example, or cheerleading, you would probably say he's more feminine (read: simply _more_ feminine, not necessarily feminine on the whole) than a guy who's into, say, sports; and me and the population at large would actually agree with you. I think that's where she's coming from; she knows herself and her behavior and thinking better than us, and I would guess since she understands the sexes so well and various associative behaviors and interests, she's concluded she's _more_ masculine than any typical woman and lays somewhere outside the female norm and she's probably right. I think that's where some of this confusion from her response is coming from, because the definition and meaning behind the word is more pliable and some of us just aren't on the same page.

"Gender" doesn't mean "Your unique expression of being a human being"
Some people get 'gender identity' confused with 'personal identity'

Rogan highlights a good point when he asked her, "How do you feel more masculine?" When ultimately personality traits, at least in the modern world, are no more male or female. Gender is a biological identity, it doesn't extend to our personality anymore, as the the gender roles are fluid in our modern society and either male or female can display traits of aggressiveness or hyper sensitivity... etc
So just because a male born individual has the generalised stereotype temperament of a women, doesn't mean they've been born into the wrong body. Both male and females are born with the same spectrum of emotions and capabilities for these temperaments.

@@fallenstate5933 I think they meant that the trans person was so used to acting like somebody who they weren't, that they couldn't get out of this narrative they built up their entire lives
Lemme try to make it a bit clearer with an example-
Say a trans man (as in, somebody born a female who identifies as a male) lived their entire life growing up as a girl, trying to ignore how they genuinely felt because they wanted to appease their family, trying to fit in with society, etc.
It'd take time to buy a whole new set of clothing, to come out to every single one of their friends (who might take it super badly and leave them or worse), and more
Does that clear up the confusion? ^^"

What we call gender today used to be called a personality.

Saying things are a social construct is in itself a social construct.
Isn't everything a social construct in a way? I'd say almost everything is aside from a few things, like biology

Correct. Gender and sex are biological. It doesn't change.
A woman can be at the racetrack in the morning, with ripped jeans, singlet, swearing, smoking, tattoo on her shoulder, drinking beer, working on the cars with the boys and then chuck on a nice evening dress, do her hair, make up, drink wine, speak eloquently, whilst at the opera with the girls.

time for amazing chest cultural stereotypes are not your friend, My generation was taught to be ourselves and not care about being lumped into some group. They are individual traits that fit with male or female stereotypes depending on the culture that the individual is part of...
@Miss Foxglove God forbid people want to be represented in society. Do they need ALL human rights? Sheesh.
Think of it this way. Say you're a guy and you wake up tomorrow in the body of Rhonda Rhousey.

Gender is a false scientifically-meaningless and medically-useless concept that has done absolutely zero to help society or advance our understanding of the human condition"
And this is the most reasonable way to describe it!
That's called gender abolitionism. Welcome to the far left.
Biological sex isn't binary, it is bimodal and science agrees. I am here to give you the bad news but, have you thought about doing your own research instead of emotionally responding to a topic then trying to justify it by vague science?

You are also using them in your argument. Some of them want to be non-binary.
Wow the only person who sees through this woman’s bullshit. She may be educated, but that doesn’t mean she is correct. No evidence whatsoever was in this clip. I wholeheartedly agree with you.
If there is a “gender wage gap”, doesn’t it seem strange that there’s only a “wage gap” between 2 genders instead of all 70 ish 😂
no, it's not strange. right and left alike generally conflate the distinctions, sometimes on purpose. there are generally two sexes, male and female (though data suggests that we're more mixed biologically than one would think, with clumps of male or female cells in different parts of people's bodies). gender is not biological sex. for you, and the thousands of dumbfucks on here that still can't get it right, i'll say it again: biological sex and a person's gender are not the same fucking thing. go back a hundred years and see that people in the two-gender crowd demanded women not wear pants, not work on cars, not be doctors (and men not be nurses), etc. now women wear pants, fly jet fighters, men are stay-at-home dads. all of those were gender issues, not biological sex. demanding that you look and act a certain way because of your sex is forcing rigid gender roles on biological humans depending on what's between the legs. nearly all americans agree that those rigid roles were bullshit, but many still cling to the "two genders" argument, even though they lost the gender battle last century. there are very masculine males, somewhat masculine males, somewhat feminine males, very feminine males, very masculine women, somewhat masculine women, somewhat feminine women, and very feminine women, and 8 billion other combinations of biological sex and how masculine or feminine you look, dress, act, and choose to live life on planet earth--a fucking veritable gender SPECTRUM.
@@wreckoner2650 so thats personality. It should be called "gender personality" 🌈

You can like who or whatever you want, sexually, objectively, anything, it doesn’t matter, you’re still a man or a woman at the end of the day
There is no spectrum of sex & Gender. There is only a spectrum of mental / psychological State
She directly asked Joe a question about what he teaches his daughters, and he sidestepped it by making observations about their friends from LA. I wonder if he has a rule about never talking about his wife or daughters? I was really interested to hear what he would say on that topic

Basically she is saying there are two genders, but there are many ways to be a woman or a man. But couldn’t we actually see this as some kind of spectrum, even if the starting point is "binary"?

The fact that she determines herself as masculine but doesn’t appear to give off vibes as masculine shows how people’s perception of themselves can be pretty skewed. Even as a scientist, let alone a general member of the public.
She gives off lots of masculine energy. It was the first thing I noticed. Just because Joe Rogan does not see something, does not mean it is not there
Honestly, I think the terms "masculine" and "feminine" are a little more open to interpretation than sex/gender, simply because what we refer to as "masculine" or "feminine" isn't just physical appearance (which of course is rigidly determined by sex and pretty inarguable), but associative behavior, interests, and thinking, which can vary from individual to individual in more flexible ways than someone's hip-to-waist ratio, bone density, or musculature etc.
