    • @munstrumridcully
      @munstrumridcully 5 лет назад +11

      @XZDrake I dont think he is attacking the academic understanding of disphoria, but rather the way that some people pretend that what someone identifies as trumps observable reality. Biology shows that humans are a sexually dimorphic species, and gender disphoria is simply a condition that affects a small minority whose biological sex is at odds with their gender identity.

    • @munstrumridcully
      @munstrumridcully 5 лет назад +5

      @XZDrake Dude, no _rational_ people are saying that. I think they are talking about the gender extremists who say gender is entirely a social construct, with zero to do with biology. These people may only be a vocal minority, but they certainly exist. I've had quite a few discussions with some of them right here on youtube.
      Even though the science disagrees, this is a core tenet of some forms of feminism. Just Google "gender is a social construct" and you'll find a bunch of essays saying it (saying biological sex has nothing to do with gender identity or gender roles) and, lower in the list, a bunch of articles showing how science disagrees. This is a very real phenomenon.

      There are some clear biological imperatives in gender roles and tendencies, as _well_ as social influence determining some norms. To pretend that it is _all_ nurture or _all_ nature is the true lunacy. It's _both_ , because of thungs like hormones and differences in brain structure that are genetic and affect gender identity and behaviors as _well_ as environmental cues influencing behavior.

    As far as I'm concerned schools should be out of the business of teaching social values altogether. The hubris behind informing YOUR children of what they should believe and how they should think about these things is astonishing. If I send my kid to a school I want them to learn maths, English, science, art, music, whatever, but not this crap. This is beyond what a school should be responsible for. Children are being prepped to accept and engage with absolute insanity - these postmodern ideas about gender and sex, when they don't even know the basic ideas behind these two concepts. They need to stay grounded in reality to tackle these subjects, and instead they're being primed to accept it without question AS "reality".
    Anyone who thinks this is bullshit and who has the ability to do so should homeschool their children. It's the only way to cut this crap out of their intellectual diet. Prepare them to treat it for what it is - just another ideology in a sea of them, and a very poor one at that.

    Its all so confusing dude. I have 3 people in my life who are diagnosed with dysphoria, two have transitioned and the third is in the process of psych evaluation. Their pain is real, as is their dysphoria but the one thing they all have in common is that they're all male or female...It pains me to see their experiences trivialized by these so called activists who claim to be speaking in the best interest of a community that they dont actually belong to. Its sad dude. I'm a bi guy myself so I've always been pretty understanding of other LGBT people. I've always been pretty liberal when it comes to this stuff, but as of late I'm starting to wonder where we have to draw the line between struggle and delusion. Giving 5 year olds hormones and telling people that gender is always "fluid and endless" is a dangerous mindset. There is structural rigidity in gender for a reason - because gender is not personality. Its not infinitely fluid, its actually pretty cut and dry. You can be transgender, a misalignment of your chromosomes and brain structure/activity, but that doesn't mean we should assume that everyone who isn't perfectly masculine or feminine is somehow trans by definition. You can still just be a fem male without transitioning to female. You can still be a masculine "butch" female without being trans. Its crazy dude. I've really been worn lately after hearing some of these people speak. Its sad that making up fantasy genders is all that they have time and resources to do.

      Your post is eloquent and touched me as someone truly concerned about the community. How do we right the ship?
      For the actual dysphoria sufferers, we need to be helpful and tolerant. I also feel that introducing this to kids is a very dangerous thing. I mean young boys used to want to be cowboys and girls princesses. Teenagers have always been rebels and push the the boundaries… in my time it could be being a punk, goth, metal longhair, jocks etc.. when these kids reach 30,40, 50 they are not still goth, punk , etc. 99% are not.
      The danger is once your gender is altered , it’s not the same as cutting your hair or buying new clothes … we need to protect our vulnerable kids and not placate a whim or a fad. Again I am full in support of those who are truly suffering with this issue. It must be terrible, just don’t encourage kids to alter their bodies in ways that maybe the adult version may not have wanted.

    And as someone who deals with real trans people daily, it absolutely is a disorder, and a catastrophic one at that. This “movement” is only making it harder for people who really deal with this issue.

    Gaad was getting into a pretty important issue of "default values" when it comes to biology and how we treat those who fall outside those default values. Basically, the trap (vicious cycle) we fall into is attempting to assign a positive or negative existential value to those people whose biology is a statistical anomaly for our species. Their anomalous traits are like any other range of biological traits that are more representative of humans. Their functional value will be determined only by the specific situations in which a given person with those traits operates. It is folly to try and value the trait at a class or group level. In other words, assess only the individual.

    I had exactly this type of experience at the school where I teach. It was very disconcerting. I was in the corridor and three little girls in grade 2 (my students 6-7 years old) stopped to talk to me. Somehow the subject they were talking about to me (Believe me! I DID NOT bring this up!) was about becoming a parent, specifically, a father, and just as my principal was passing by, I said that when they grew up, they would not be fathers. They would be mothers. My principal stopped and said directly to me, "They can be fathers if they want. Yes, you know that. They can be fathers." I was literally stunned. It must have shown on my face. I almost asked if she were kidding, but then I remembered the Canadian law Bill C16 which Trudeau brought in in 2016 and it flashed through my mind that she was "right." I think the girls noticed this because one suddenly said, "I guess it's a choice." Except, it ISN'T "a choice!" Can you imagine confusing small children like that? To me, that is child abuse. You know, I have been reading about this sort of thing, but this event brought into "reality." In my opinion, an alternate reality where TRUTH has no place and ultimately is not a defense. I wonder what their parents would think if they had heard this conversation. S, I am asking all parents reading this, what do you think? I cannot and will not go along with this. I always reinforce their identities as boys and girls through my words - not as stereotypes, but as who they were born.

      Being from Eastern Europe I'm a second hand spectator to all of this. The last few years in America in particular seem like an odd fever dream. I believe we've always been the same old degenerates but the 21st century lifestyle has made us that much more comfortable and lazy giving rise to these trends. Over here it's the exact opposite; gay pride parades are met with protests twice their size each year. I used to hope for a healthy equalibrium but now I'm too scared to risk becoming like the "woke" countries of the west. I fully believe you're taking the correct approach with these kids and I sincerely hope we're on the right side of history, for society's sake.

      @@Joe-ut3sz We ARE on the right side of history! Genetics don't lie, no matter what you "feel" like on the inside. The whole basis of our identity starts at birth when people ask "Was it a boy or a girl?" Some people reading this comment might think that is stereotyping. Not at all. All children need to be encouraged in their interests no matter what sex they were born, but children are highly impressionable. They pretend lots of things - like being an animal or a superhero. If a boy says he is Superman and wants to jump off a roof and fly, as a parent, are you going to allow that? No, of course not. You'd correct him and tell him he cannot jump off a roof because while it's nice to pretend to be Superman, he is not ACTUALLY Superman, so he cannot jump off a roof. The same reasoning should apply if he comes home and says he is a girl and it should be explained that it is not possible genetically, no matter how he "feels" at that moment.

    How does 0.6%-7.0% (the estimated amount of people who are truly transgender) of the population have this much power? It's such a small population even at its highest estimate yet I feel like it has influenced so much of American society. I've had two very close friends growing up who are transgender and I have so much respect for them, do you know why? Because they just were what they were. They never attacked anyone, went through their days working hard with their heads down low, and didn't need anyone else's approval to be confident in who they were. When my friend first went female to male he gave me so many chances of accidentally misgendering him without freaking out because he understood that it was new for me also and habits take time to be broken. The most he would do is politely educate which would happen naturally out of people curiously asking questions because they weren't being forced perspectives (and weren't being forced to respect someone, respect is earned it can never be forced). There are so many situations going on today such as gang violence, absolute poverty, drug addiction, etc. that deserve the attention all these P.C topics have been getting.

Even the whole modern left movement doesn't have as many people as it seems to have, most people do not buy their ideology but they still have so much power, they are a small group but very loud. I think the reason why is because there are people behind making this happen, actually you can track down people donating insane amount of money to the movement, almost all mainstream media is on their side too so it gives the feeling like if most people have that mindset.

      Sorry, but the pendulum isn't really swinging back the other way on gays, trans people, blacks, or any other group. It may swing a big but it never swings enough to make a huge difference. Gay marriage is here to stay. Trans people are here to stay. Blacks will continue to marry and mingle with whites. And the wheels of progress roll on.
      On the plus side, as an old man you won't be around much longer so your endless, pitiable anger will end with you.

    I completely agree and have wondered this. If genitalia does not define gender, why does anyone change their genitalia??

    • @xaldynnemo47
      @xaldynnemo47 4 года назад

      Genitalia is one of many different things that *can be used* to define gender; but genitalia alone doesn't define gender. You don't go around looking at the genitalia of everyone you interact with to determine their gender, do you? You can almost always tell right away what gender someone is, without ever seeing what's in their pants. So to say genitalia defines gender is clearly disingenuous, wouldn't you agree?
      As for why anyone would have their genitalia changed, it's for the same reason they transition in any of the other ways: to feel more like their gender identity. The key word there is *more*--it makes them feel *more* like their gender. It alone isn't the end-all be-all of gender identity.

The person checking out your groceries? Do you stop and ask to look at any of their genitals before interacting with them? Of course not, like I said, you can already tell their gender without ever seeing their junk. So if you're not telling thier gender by their genitals, then what specific things about them that you are using to tell their gender?

    • @xaldynnemo47
      @xaldynnemo47 4 года назад

      @@thesandravshow You're referring to sex, not gender. The reason they use genitals to determine that is because newborns literally have no other visible differences. They don't have secondary sex characteristics, or voices, or clothing, or mannerisms, or anything else. If you covered up a newborn's genitals, you'd have no fucking clue what it's gender OR sex was. I don't see how that's even relevant, though, considering newborns and infants can't be trans. They don't even have genders in the first place at that stage. Not even 100 years ago, infants were all colloquially called girls and were dressed the same for that very reason.

    I'm glad they are being nuanced about it and acknowledging gender dysphoria. I guess the real frustrating thing is that we can't all look at the situation the same way. Some people want to want to be nice, some people want to be mean, and some people want to strictly be empirical. It really bugs me that categorizing something as a disorder is unacceptable when it seems to really meet all the criteria. Meanwhile on the other end, people won't even acknowledge the dysphoria as real. It seems to mean a lot of different things to different people and until we can all agree to some objective standard, the issue will be relegated to echo chambers further dividing the dialogue.

    I actually don't mind putting tampon dispensers in men's rooms, if we agree to supply them in the first place. Trans men who appear and live as men often still retain their original female bodily functions, ergo have periods and need tampons. The alternative is they go into the women's room while presenting as male and cause a disturbance.

      @Go To I disagree with that sentiment. I see no noteworthy difference between that and refusing to recognise a gay person as gay - or a straight person as straight. Individuals have the right to their own identity. You may have a choice in what you call people, but some choices are obviously made to punish another person for their choices, to demean them as an individual, or to force their identity in a way that you approve. You can chose to call someone "Idiot" rather than their name for instance. But I think the correct response to this is to "compel" you to stop. It shows a lack of respect for the individual's (and I mean all individuals) right to their own identity. The reason I side with that side of the debate rather than yours is that their decision to make their own identity is an action independent of anyone else. The other side says that their right to call another person whatever they want is the same. I don't think it is. It's a reaction to someone else's choice, and a method of forcing that person's identity back to what YOU want, rather than what that person wants for themselves. And I think we should have more acceptance for choices people make for themselves rather than for choices people make when acting on another person. I think my line of reasoning makes sense. I value individualism, while recognising that we don't live in a vacuum by ourselves, and this is the conclusion its lead me to. I respect your decision as well provided it doesn't lead to open hostility or cruelty.

    I am gay and had a transgender friend who was supported on his journey to change his gender. So he did. He became a she. After a few years as a woman she begun to hate her body yet again she ask doctors to reverse it and go back to male again. The answer was no, After she struggle to come to terms with the reality that the reassignment surgery was not reversible she ended her/his life. As a gay male I begun supporting transgenders but after his death and reading through her goodbye letter he left i have to speak up. Please do no patronized people who tell you they are something they are not!!! Do not be afraid! I feel responsible for his death! I wish would of told him to love himself as he was born! To love himself! I wish I could of advise him to be comfortable in his own skin and accept himself fully. I wish I could of told him no amount of surgeries or hormones will fix how we feel about ourselves. We need to love and accept ourselves as we are and the bodies we were born in. And we need people around us who tells us the truth no to fear offending us by telling us we are wrong! I fail my friend by going along with his wishes. I fail his family. But above all I fail myself for lying to a friend and patronizing him. From now on when asked I will not lie or please anyone I will call you by the gender you were born into even if you disagree with me. One death is far too many!
