Hi you guys I'm flying into the island in March for two and a half weeks my first two days in just east of Santa Domingo and then plan to get a bus from there to punta cana for 5 or six days then I have booked a place in Las terrenas also which I think I mite drive up to like yourselfs any tips on places to go see or do while on the island
Not commented for a while but this video made me want to say how much I enjoyed you keeping it real, showing the ups and down of travel, thumbs up from me.
It is not real...is negative. I was there and had a great time! I guess it is more of an European/local vibe. Not fit for picky Americans. Hey go to Punta Cana or Cancun...they are resorts with no mosquitos or anything real...tailored to the picky American tourist...with nothing real about the country you are in 👍
From las terrenas I would recommend you to visit “salto El Limón” (waterfall), Los Haitises national park (preferably by boat), Cayo Levantado (small island in the bay), mirador del Atlantico (viewpoint), playa Rincón and playa Fronton (beaches). You are gonna love them 👍🏽
Great video! Thank you. And yes… don’t expect in DR having the fast customer service we are (most of the time) privileged in Canada. Once in DR you have to go with an open mind. It is great how you adjusted and made the best of this beautiful place. I am in love with Las Terrenas, have my condo and highly recommend (so yes, a little bias) - plus co-owner of a real estate/ investment company. This is “real” travel, while there are gorgeous hotels 5 star accommodations at par with other parts of the world, another beauty of Las Terrenas is the opportunity of mingling with locals as well as like-minded expats from around the globe who decided to enjoy a little piece of paradise. There are accommodations suitable for any pocket….so happy you stayed in Alisei in Las Ballenas. I couldn’t find your other videos of LT, I was hoping you would show El Portillo, Bahía de Coson, and Playa Bonita… NOTE re El Limón, this is a great activity if you are fit (unlike me!) - I thought I wasn’t going to make it 😵💫😂, my son loved it and would go back without mami. Keep up the great delights 💝
Trevor and Anna you guys rock!!!! I loved how you keep it real. I am really sorry that the trip did not start well. I do hope that the rest of the Las Terrenas trip do go better and you have fun.
Well you rolled with the punches and ended up in a nice spot! Hope your trip is amazing. I can’t wait to watch your next videos. Living vicariously thorough you!
Thank you guys for sharing your experience. The Dominican Republic with all its beauty has its imperfections and it's good for future travelers to know it so they be prepared.
Well, your trip to Las Terrenas started out pretty rough, but it turned out really well! Travel days can be like that and you handled it well. Looks like a great apartment and of course a fabulous pool. Cheers :)
Wow! That was quite an adventure! But, it seems everything turned out fine in the end. You have a cute apt., on the beach in a stunningly beautiful location. Nice. Have fun!
Oh guys, you and cars 😂 but you’re still smiling , and Plan B worked out pretty well really! it’s good of you to show us a few imperfections here and there! 🤗
Glad you were able to readjust your plans. I am sure it had stressful moments but now you can enjoy your week. This place looks very nice, looking forward to seeing more views of the area.
This video just made me smile. Adventures happen for a reason, and like you said, just roll with them. They are annoying, but as long as you can laugh in the end, all is well. Looking forward to what comes next. Stay safe and enjoy.
Tropical Time, wonderful to see your attitude and willing to let the sun guide you, and adjust to what island life throws at you. Carolina, Leaf and Stan are great people to.meet when in Las Terrenas. Safe travels
Love your videos my wife and I retire 11 year ago to the North Coast of DR and we love it here. The next time you need a 4x4 check in the Sosua area. I have seen quite a few including Jeep Wrangler Modified for offroad.
We love your videos, and enjoy the content. My wife has six months until retirement and we plan on coming to Sosua for a few months to see if its for us full time.
I lived in punta cana for 5 years 2015-2020 and the car rental situation is crazy across the board most the time. So it's all about adapting very fast as you both did perfectly! And before you know it you'll be back enjoying your piece of mind yall be safe great job😊
We’re on our way to LT in 10 days! Excited to see what you think of it, and what your favourite parts are. Also, if you feel safe walking home at night on the beach or side lanes (there will be five of us).
Me encantan sus aventuras, bienvenidos a RD. Les recomiendo Bahía se las Águilasz, los 27 charcos de Damajagua, montaña redonda y visitar jarabacoa. Espero sigan disfrutando mucho.
I also strongly recommend to watch the North Atlantic humpback whales 🐋 in the Samana bay. The season is from January to March, and it is one of the main attractions in the region.
Great video today guys. Just so ya know that symbol next to the temperature gages is the Low tire pressure lite. 0.40. It's kinda a stupid symbol. When you look at it again. It supposed to be a tire low on air and bulging the sides. Can't wait for more videos to come cheers
It's nice to see you guys traveling and enjoying my country :D. I don't remember very good, but I think that in the city of Santiago, which is the biggest city in the north of DR, you can rent a 4x4 near the airport
Thanks for making these videos! Booked our tickets for end of march, can't wait to come to Dominican Republic! What can you recommend for first timers, for two week trip? We (my partner and I) would like combination of all inclusive resort (5 days) and the rest to be exploring. Thanks in advance!
Whew that beer was due! Very generous of your subscriber, but it worked out beautifully! Looking forward to your discoveries & adventures! Great video guys!~Cara 😊
Glad you finally made it there. Usually a high clearance vehicle without 4wd is ok. The one light is actually low tire pressure. We are from NS as well and have finally got to travel. We are in Uvita Costa Rica now. Enjoy that beautiful place. Be safe
Please keep us posted on prices. Just discovered you a couple of days ago. We are 2 seniors from Canada who are looking to come down at some point but we have never travelled without staying at a resort so a bit daunting but you are making us feel like we can do it. Thank you for being so informative and for responding to my vegan restaurant availability. Sharing your site
We are interested in spending a couple months in the Las Terrenas area next winter. The Airbnb in your link was pricey for a one month stay. Are you able to provide some guidance on how to get batter prices for longer stays? Thank you!!!
I am so sorry all the happened to you! Glad you videoed what can happen while traveling but also how well you bounced back from it. I am glad you love what you see already. If my flight wasn't cancelled I may have ran into you this week!! Make sure you make it to Playa Bonita beach as well. Lots of great bars and the beach is beautiful and you can walk for miles!!! Also go Whale watching to Samana Bay if they are there yet. Amazing!!! Enjoy!
Hi guys love your content! Since you'll be in DR for a while here's something you can try, a playoff baseball game or believe it or not Soccer in March with the LDF. DR Really has it all!
Just found your channel, liking it a lot. That yellow light is the tire pressure monitors showing a problem. I’ve seen those lights cause a lot of useless headaches being someone thought it was something else.
I believe you are probably bettter off at the hotel. I stayed at a villa that was also high up on a mountain. It was difficult to go out at night. The Villa was incredible beautiful, the view, the sleep, even the air felt perfect, But we did not feel comfortable getting down at night. We had a 4 x 4 but the mountain was narrow and high. Believe that things happen for a reason. Enjoy Las Terrenas! can’t wait to see the rest of the videos.
Real life its good that you show how sometimes you just have to as Ross says.."PIVOT"...and go with the flow...love your travels!!...come to Mexico soon!!!...Viv
Hi guys, I'm from Samaná and I can recommend you go to see the whale watching. You can aslo go to las galeras, the beaches fronton, rincon, madama, colorada,caño frio, la playista, cayo levantado, salto el limon, ect. Many things to do and enjoy 😎🏝🏖🚣♂️🏊♀️🏄♂️
Since you guys are already in Samana visit Playa Rincon you will have 4 kilometers of beach all to yourself, Ojos Indigenas, Dominican tree house village that is a hotel on top of trees, Playa fronton if you are able to get there that is if the weather allows you guys to see it, is in front of a 100-meter rock, Keep in minds that in Samana you will see a lot of anglos last name that is because in 1825 1000 ex-slaves arrive from the south of the u.s. you will find Shepards, Fillmore, Rodneys. from south Carolina mainly
After watching this video, I'm not very nervous about our upcoming trip to Las Terrenas. We will be getting to the villa we've rented, by taxi from the airport (11 people, I might add) and we were thinking we'd rent a car for a day or two. Now, the directions to the VRBO rental are not extremely clear. Apparently, there are no street names, but we have been given directions (turn left at end of street/ turn left again/ turn left once more). So.... I'm not sure where the place is and these will be the directions we give the taxi from the airport, but we are not sure how we give directions back to the airport (when we are leaving). Now, renting a car is not that easy, and I would love to know the company name you rented your car from. Thanks! Great video and I'm happy it turned out well for you in the end.
I've been watching your videos on your travels through the DR...great content. I hope you might be able to answer this question. The e-ticket. We're flying out from SeaTac and have a layover in Chicago. Would Seattle-Tacoma be the disembark location or Chicago...confused?. Thank you in advance
Too bad we didn't catch up while you were scrambling for a place. We are in a huge 4 bedroom Villa in Las Terrenas...400 steps to the beach. Our kids had to cancel because of the pandemic. Just the 2 of us January 1-Feb 5. Loving it here!
I recommend you to go to playa ermitaño 😍 is really amazing in the middle of nowhere you go in a boat and the view is amazing😍 I also recommend you to do a tour in squad where you can appreciate amazing views and go to differents beaches and places 100% recommended
1st off, the yellow light next to the temp gauge is NOT a thermostat light, its a low tire pressure warning. Second, D.R has so many Kia / Hyundai cars (ex korean taxis) imported and they are basically trash. Hope you arrive and return safe
Very interesting. Learned long ago, things don’t always go as planned. Any idea how far you would have had to walk up that hill had you tried to stay at your original destination?
Well let me tell you my favourite place in the Dominican Republic, not far from you, Las Galeras, it has the most wonderful beaches you can imagine and has a very laid back vibe, I hope you will check the area out, you won’t regret it! Just a question, I’am in Thailand and because of the pandemic ended up staying here in Thailand and looking through your vlogs you haven’t any from Thailand, how come?
Las Galeras is high on our list. We can't wait to go at some point. Re: Thailand. We were supposed to visit in 2020 and then we got stuck in the Philippines. So that derailed our plans. Thai Food is one our favs and beaches of course ha... plus we always wanted to visit Chiang Mai. (digital nomad spot) It will happen but likely when covid settles down - Trevor
You are in Samana in January. This is the time when the North Atlantic population of Humpback Whales travels to the Caribbean for a few months. Their biggest gathering point is the waters around Samana.
You could have reversed up the hill. Reverse in a FWD car has a lower gear and reversing tranfers weight on to the front wheels for really good traction.
Hi guys. We travel quite a bit (nothing like you guys, lol) but we have had our share of trials while traveling. Canceled flights, delays, car rentals that weren't available after confirming the day before, museums closed for renovations, workers not showing up to open a museum, etc. :( Sadly it happens and I am getting better at rolling with the punches. It can be frustrating, but sometimes things do work out better than had planned. We wanted to explore the mall in Washington D.C. one year and they were doing the million family march and everything was shut down or packed. Our tour was canceled even though we booked like two weeks before. I still think they should have known, Anyway, we ended up going down to Williamsburg and had an AMAZING few days. We did the mall another time, but may not have gone to Williamsburg if it wasn't for the issues in D.C. Sorry I am rambling but looks like you guys made the best of it and still having a great time. Viajes felices! Thanks for sharing. Enjoy following along and hope to get to the DR one day soon. Looks incredible.
Oh sorry you had so much car troubles, it helps to have an arrangement with a dealer or private renter so you get the same car each time you need it. Go and visit the villa in a motorcycle, I’d love to see it! Enjoy one of the most beautiful places in rhe world 🎉
Hi guys! I’m travelling to DR later this year and will be going from Santo Domingo to Las Terrenas. Is it easy enough to find a spot to park if you have a car rather than a bike? Thanks ☺️
I would suggest that you go to the best beach in the DR , Bahia De Las Aguilas. It’s stretch and I would suggest taking a tour bus instead, it is far from where you are but it’s so worth it,
Glad the tide turned, and it worked out by the beach. Looks good. Las Terranas area is high on my list to visit, still hope to go one day, either alone or with Sarah.
Great video guys! After driving in Jordan I'm hesitant to drive in other countries outside of North America, UK and Europe. I'm always impressed with people who can do it with a smile :)
The Dominican Republic is a Caribbean nation that shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti to the west. It's known for its beaches, resorts and golfing.
I think that most people might not know what a 4x4 is so I suggest that next time you ask if they understand the request. Remember that there might be a language barrier as well. DR is a paradise Island but is not USA or CANADA so enjoy all the wonderful positive things and patience and good planning ahead will conquer the less perfect things. If I were you I would take advantage now of the incredible opportunity you have to learn another language, in this case Spanish, so I would take an “Online” class. It would help you in the future if you visit some other Latin American countries in the future. Enjoy your stay in Las Terrenas ☀️ 🏝
Not always. There's a saying here that goes, "you can never say no to a customer". So from personal experience even though you can be explicitly ask for something specific, like for example a 4*4, even if they don't have it available they'll be saying "yeah we will have it available for you at that time". Then, instead of later on when they they realize that they are not going to be able to deliver on their promise apologize and explain the situation. They'll either act like nothing is wrong, you got what you asked for, or they'll just act stupid like they didn't know that what they delivered was something else. So although I would agree that learning Spanish especially here in DR, I've noticed that if they notice that you understand and don't go for their tricks, they treat you differently, knowing the language won't always solve this issue. So you either have to learn to live with it, or just stay at home 😅
When I rent a car here I call them the Christmas Tree , because of the warning light that are on. This usually happens because they service the car but the mechanics don't a reset the warning lights.
Not whining when in a foreign caribbean island. Gotta be open to every day an adventure. My friends, you kind of knew this Villa was difficult to access.
Hello, My name is Jorge, I really like your RUclips Chanel. I travel often to the Dominican Republic, I was watching the Nightmare video, and would recommend renting a car at the airport. They do have AWD and 4WD rentals available, and they do not charge a crazy 3k to 4k deposit on the rental. Disclaimer, I do travel through Santo Domingo. But I do not book online, usually find the number online and call them directly to make the reservation. Again, I love your videos, Best of luck, and have fun in the D.R. PS, I am from New Jersey,
Great content - thanks :) We are looking to rent a car in DR going from Santo Domingo to Las Terrenas. Do you have any recommendations as to rental and rental companies? Thanks and keep up the good content :) We would love to book beforehand so we don't have to do it after traveling 19 hours from Denmark :D
Hey I’m looking to travel from Cabarete to las terennas. Was planning on taking the bus but a car seems preferable. How do I make sure to get insurance? What’s the best car rental place you mentioned? Thanks!
ACK! That whole rent-a-4X4 escapade was NOT delightful. Nor was the up-the-hill-to-the-left time. However, it looks like you found a pretty decent spot by the beach. Very nice!
In case you haven't pick the slang speed bump in Dominican is "policia acostao" (policeman laying down); if you try casabe con aguacate you will never touch avocado toast.
So, very interesting so nice for you make this video for viewers like me being a Dominican like me is nice to know about the Dominican I never been to samana in Dominican but it looks really nice the drive to samana but I think the next time you go at airport you should find someone who can help you get a good car 4 WD and give the guy a 20.00 and he’ll direct you where to find one and make ur trip more enjoyable. I’d really enjoy the video tho 👍🤛
Have a friend who went there and came back saying he will not go there again. He told me that any service you need, you have to show money or else they tell you it is not available. Pool towels, or anything else, just with money. If I ever had any ideas of visiting this place, they are over now.

One of the most common causes of a check engine light is a loose gas cap. Make sure it has been tightened until it clicks.
You have to go the El salto el limón, in Samaná, it's very pretty
I recommend you to go to playa ermitaño 😍 is really amazing in the middle of nowhere you go in a boat and the view is amazing😍 I also recommend you to do a tour in squad where you can appreciate amazing views and go to differents beaches and places 100% recommended
We'll look it up! Thanks - Trevor
I will be celebration my 50th birthday in Las Terrenas with family and friends from all over the world. It's gorgeous there! I can't wait!
What a great 50th that will be. LT is such a special place 🤗- Anna
150m of straight up hill. So that was a no go especially with bags. Plus it was concrete and super slippery 😬- Trevor
My first DR trip in 2008 I did the same drive in a crappy Honda CRV driving on horrible roads that had some sections totally washed out.
You are in Samana in January. This is the time when the North Atlantic population of Humpback Whales travels to the Caribbean for a few months. Their biggest gathering point is the waters around Samana.
Yes we know! We get in the Nova Scotia in our summer as well 🤗- Anna
You could have reversed up the hill. Reverse in a FWD car has a lower gear and reversing tranfers weight on to the front wheels for really good traction.
Another fellow Canuck here, and OK rather off topic, but OMG that necklace! Gorgeous. Where can I find one?? :)
Happy Sunday. -9 C in Bedford, NS. Enjoy the sunshine ☀
Stay warm 🥶 That’s cold - Anna
Oh sorry you had so much car troubles, it helps to have an arrangement with a dealer or private renter so you get the same car each time you need it. Go and visit the villa in a motorcycle, I’d love to see it! Enjoy one of the most beautiful places in rhe world 🎉
We do have a 'guy' but honestly everyone that rents a car here in the DR seems to have an odd / funny / or bad experience 😀 - Trevor
Hi guys!
I’m travelling to DR later this year and will be going from Santo Domingo to Las Terrenas. Is it easy enough to find a spot to park if you have a car rather than a bike?
Thanks ☺️
We always rent from OK Motors in Sosua. Reliable, good coverage and very supportive if there is an accident. And accidents are very common.
I would suggest that you go to the best beach in the DR , Bahia De Las Aguilas. It’s stretch and I would suggest taking a tour bus instead, it is far from where you are but it’s so worth it,
It's on our list... we're hoping we can make it there in a few months 😀Thanks - Trevor
That's in my city Samana I hope you enjoy a great times there, blessings from South Carolina
Thanks for showing your challenging day....how much was the apartment at the last minute?
Sometimes the best adventure is when you have unexpected turns
100% 🤗
Glad the tide turned, and it worked out by the beach. Looks good. Las Terranas area is high on my list to visit, still hope to go one day, either alone or with Sarah.
Great video guys! After driving in Jordan I'm hesitant to drive in other countries outside of North America, UK and Europe. I'm always impressed with people who can do it with a smile :)
Somos un continente en miniatura, lo tenemos todo!!!
So true!
Enjoy your stay in Las Terrenas ☀️ 🏝
tracción total

Maybe the thought 4x4 meant four cylinders and four doors like Volvos use to designate their models.
When I rent a car here I call them the Christmas Tree , because of the warning light that are on. This usually happens because they service the car but the mechanics don't a reset the warning lights.
Lol.. so so true Enrique - Anna
It is a 4x4 it has 4 wheels !!!! You shouldve got a running start on that hill brother.
PS, I am from New Jersey,
You guys should go to at place call cayo arena is beautiful and is not far from Puerto Plata maybe 20 mins is my favorite place in the world
Check our other videos. We've been there and filmed it all. Amazing spot - Trevor
Hello people I'm waiting for the next video from las Terrenas
I like your attitude , you go with the flow.
The right signal on dash is for low pressure tire not thermostat 🙂
We didn't know.. ha - Anna
Thanks!
En also go to cayo levantado, it's a nice island in Samaná
Anna looks really good in this video !
Hi guys! Please, tell us what is the name of the village you couldn't get to.
ACK! That whole rent-a-4X4 escapade was NOT delightful. Nor was the up-the-hill-to-the-left time. However, it looks like you found a pretty decent spot by the beach. Very nice!
OK motors in sosua has 2 jeep wranglers and takes cash with no deposit. I rented from them before
Not on the day we tried to rent - Trevor
Hey guys! Just wondering what app you use for GPS/maps in Dominican republic?
We use Google Maps .. that's it! 😀 - Anna
Have fun...waiting for more🥰
Lots more on the way 🤗- Anna
In case you haven't pick the slang speed bump in Dominican is "policia acostao" (policeman laying down); if you try casabe con aguacate you will never touch avocado toast.
Good to know Luis. Thank you! - Trevor
On Top Gear, they called them sleeping policemen in the UK
So, very interesting so nice for you make this video for viewers like me being a Dominican like me is nice to know about the Dominican I never been to samana in Dominican but it looks really nice the drive to samana but I think the next time you go at airport you should find someone who can help you get a good car 4 WD and give the guy a 20.00 and he’ll direct you where to find one and make ur trip more enjoyable. I’d really enjoy the video tho 👍🤛
Just have fun, great video
I'm actually enjoying this "Not according to plan" video. Would like more adventures
Noted.. thank you for letting us know Hanni - Anna
Nice video, but you didn't tell us what the hotel cost, it'd be interesting to know!
Hi,
When you travel, there is always flights delayed or cancelled, lots of things can and do go wrong. Part of the "job". Worth it anyways and always.
Have a friend who went there and came back saying he will not go there again. He told me that any service you need, you have to show money or else they tell you it is not available. Pool towels, or anything else, just with money. If I ever had any ideas of visiting this place, they are over now.
Wao that villa is beautiful!❤️
