@@randomloser5271 It's not just cosmetic either. It genuinely increases your overall health. The fact you need to lose so many times is rather jarring just to get it, but it is effectively the game's easiest mode being unlocked since you can still progress the game with it equipped.
I noticed that when Aran Ryan bops himself in the face with the rope attack, he doesn't take damage but his portrait shakes like he did. Nifty little detail.
Another detail that's more of built into the game is how when Aran tries to hit you with his rope attack before falling over, but you instead star punch him before he falls, he ends up getting OKed, instant karma.
@@captainbup if I'm correct, the game doesn't allow the enemy fighter from getting knocked down by anything other then the players punch. I think in situations like king hippos manhole falling off, even though it deals damage, it won't knock him down ever.

To be fair, even if it's for health reasons, it's illegal for him to wear the headgear unless Little Mac does too. Then again, the rules of the WVBA is hella wack compared to those of the real life WBA. WVBA's rule set includes: "Make everything look entertaining at all costs, even at the risk of the other boxers, WVBA staff, and onlookers in the stands."

One thing they changed (kinda) is the fact that intercepting his Bull Rush without a star punch won't make him down to the count (but you can use the star punch you get from that interception as soon as he starts to go forward to his fight stance to make him fall instantly anyway, is just one aditional step, the NES game he still get's down while intercepting the Bull Rush just like the 1st fight).
Soda Popinski healing exactly as much as the damage you dealt to him is almost worse than him healing more damage than you dealt to him. It almost feels insulting in a way.
I love when the challenges have something to do with their respective culture such as blocking Piston Hondo's jabs 44 times (the number 4 is unlucky in Japan), defeating Aran Ryan in the 7th minute in the fight (the Irish are considered to be lucky, and the number 7 is also lucky), and one of Great Tiger's Exhibition Challenges involves defeating him with only right jabs (the left hand is considered unclean)
Technically if your left handed that's the unclean hand at first at least the idea is you wipe with your nondominant hand so using your in most cases left hand when handshaking was calling someone akin to poop

I like to think of these challenges as being ways to further Mac's legend in the canon. Hard to forget the man who SMOKED his opponents so hard he humiliated them by doing what the in-game challenges say.
Imagine being Aran during the 7:00 match. you been being just hit a few times in the first few seconds by the opponent, then he just nearly not hitting you for over 2 whole rounds, just dodging everything you can give to him, legally or not. Then at the 3 round, he finally started to fight and just whales on you at any chance, and as you're going down to the floor, ready to swing attack, he just punch in your face so hard that you got launch into the boxing ropes and tangle in it, upside-down, while twitching from it

There comes a point in a fight where I'd certainly forfeit instead of continuing to get pummeled and humiliated... and Piston Hondo passed that point in the "block 44 jabs" match like half a dozen times.
Punch Out Wii is definitely by far the best of the series. It was the revival of Punch Out... as well as the end. And as someone who has played every punchout game, I find Punch Out Wii to be more nostalgic than the NES version for some reason. I mean it's the most cinematic, and this time the characters have way more personality, and you can fight Donkey Kong, another selling point. Title Defense exists, challenges also give the game replay value, and it's a really pretty game even by Wii standards. And has a banger good soundtrack, once again, even by Wii standards. Glad to see it still has a community.
Honestly, hearing Soda Popinski's theme while he gets relentlessly hit while he keeps trying to keep up by healing and attacking makes the fight very epic in my opinion
I loved watching my dad play this game as a kid and then years later I finally started my own save file and has been stuck on Bald Bull for like a year XD
Seeing someone exploit all the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of the opponents in this game, I have come to a firm conclusion: Little Mac is friggin’ TERRIFYING!
God, I know that Hondo shouldn't really be bowing once the match has already commenced as his opponent has no need to respect the tradition, but it feels super scummy to punch him mid-bow
Actually, it was a clever way of showing him _disrespecting_ you. Hondo keeps his eyes on you the whole time he bows, which is an extremely backhanded way to insult someone in Japanese tradition. Kinda like shaking someone’s hand and then squeezing their pressure point.
I love how in this game everyone sounds as they should, coming from whatever country they come everyone sounds like they are native from there and there’s just not enough games that get that part right

Punch Out Wii is definitely by far the best of the series. It was the revival of Punch Out... as well as the end.
And as someone who has played every punchout game, I find Punch Out Wii to be more nostalgic than the NES version for some reason.
I mean it's the most cinematic, and this time the characters have way more personality, and you can fight Donkey Kong, another selling point. Title Defense exists, challenges also give the game replay value, and it's a really pretty game even by Wii standards. And has a banger good soundtrack, once again, even by Wii standards.
Glad to see it still has a community.

God, I know that Hondo shouldn't really be bowing once the match has already commenced as his opponent has no need to respect the tradition, but it feels super scummy to punch him mid-bow
Actually, it was a clever way of showing him _disrespecting_ you. Hondo keeps his eyes on you the whole time he bows, which is an extremely backhanded way to insult someone in Japanese tradition. Kinda like shaking someone’s hand and then squeezing their pressure point.
I think it's common for fighters to not lose eye contact while bowing if they're in striking distance.
Years ago when I took Karate lessons I was taught to bow as a sign of respect but to never take my eyes off my opponent.
