I just found out that speedrunner Nolan414 already posted a video with a lower punch count for many of these fights. Go check out his channel if you are interested :)
Yeah, having played it (finally), it's a whole nother ball game when you don't have the muscle memory to react to all the punches and the fights memorized. Sure Glass Joe was easy, but I can legit see how new players would struggle. Disco Kid is where it starts to get more challenging and I'm currently stuck on Super Macho Man (contender). Still not sure how I managed to beat Bald Bull....
Except king hippo and not when you battle him the first time it’s the second time bro got a man hole and duck tapes it to his stomach and it takes five hits to take one tape so is 30 or 25 I don’t know if is 5 then it's 25 but if it's 6 then it's 30 so the second battle that is impossible
I love how they brought these insta KO tricks into the “new” (it’s not new at this point) game. I remember when my dad would always 1 tap glass Joe in the original.
Yeah most of them now require the full 3 star punch to execute, rather than a single Star punch (which just always results in a counted Knock out). Shame no more 1 punch Glass Joe but c'est la vie. XD
Notes - Don Flamenco's uppercut can not be countered for a star if he throws it in response to Mac doing nothing - I found no route on Soda Popinski and Super Macho Man to farm stars quick enough to knock them down three times in one round, so I had to resort to a higher number of regular punches for those fights
That note about Don Flamenco is only in Contender mode. In Title defense, Don Flamenco's unprovoked uppercuts can in fact be countered to earn a star. So Don can be beaten in 15 punches. Von Kaiser can be beaten in 14 punches if you use the instant knockdown from discovering all unique stars opportunities.
So the minimum amount of punches to do the entire game is 331? Damn, that's about 12 punches per fight. By that math, mac should be at LEAST as swole as soda
I was expecting that Soda Pop was gonna have the most punches required, and then I saw Super Macho Man. Also, it feels like a crime that Aran Ryan's minimum punches wasn't a multiple of 7.
Even more so he's the only original character in this game (yes he's based on the arcade Kid Quick, but Kid Quick didn't have a dance theme, he was just a played straight boxer who was fast and agile.) I'm glad to see they had a lot of fun with him.

Kind of nice to see the fight actually played out. The "infinite" feels like "the one joke the magician knows" at this point than an actual show of skill. I don't even think it's the fastest way to beat him.
It's more likely that it has to do with an illegal Sailor Moon manga page in the game (During the mid round banter, TD Piston Hondo is reading said manga). Nintendo got sued for that.
17:06 This is as close to "Release the bogus" as it gets folks, but for real now, it's incredible that he avoided that phrase throughout his entire fight.
@@GodlightTheTranscended7745 considering the guy above me said he's 2 bear huggers and bear hugger is 450 pounds. (I think) 450×2=900. Little Mac is 48 pounds. It is possible to calculate. I'm just not gonna spend 5 minutes calculating it lol. So just use a calculator
Easily one of my favorites. Something so powerful about those war trumpets and drums. Especially for the second character you fight. Granted, Von Kaiser has one of two attacks in the game that is a OHKO regardless of health (100% damage). His Windmill strike. (I think the other one is Bald Bull's Bull charge, though Sandman will continue his Dreamland express after he knocks you down, while everyone else stops thier signature move if they knock you down getting effectively 1.5 KOs per Dreamland Express, but it's still 3 punches.).
It is worth noting that one of Title Defense Glass Joe's challenges actually requires you to defeat him with only 4 punches thrown. And it's also interesting to know that Von Kaiser and Bear Hugger share the exact same instant knockdown opportunity in their Title Defense bouts; land a 3-star punch on them while they're stunned. In terms of Title Defense Piston Hondo, you can actually defeat him in only three punches by counterpunching his Hondo Rush three times in a row. However, you do need to time the counterpunch just right, or else you'll only get a star, instead of an instant knockdown. However, what's probably the most baffling ordeal is knowing that Disco Kid and Great Tiger both gained instant knockout opportunities in their Title Defense bouts, while they didn't have any in their Contender bouts.
Yeah, ironically Disco kid adding special attacks (namely his Disco Flurry) gave him an insta KO. Great Tiger's seems reminiscent of his NES counterpart where he sends a fake vision at you and you have to hit the real one, while his Contender version has an entirely new attack where he clones himself, then either sends himself or the clone at you. I think Tiger's the only one who's NES fight was given to his TD version rather than the TD getting an entirely new defense like all the other NES fighters who don't have a second match.
@@MarioMastar I suppose that by making the power of his clones stronger, Great Tiger unintentionally gained an instant knockout opportunity that he did not have in the Contender bout.
1. Hit them 1 time then don't take damage, easy. To get around Disco Kid and Soda Popinsky's heals wait to punch at the last second on round 3. King hippo is a lost cause, he's gonna need more
For me Mr. Sandman should be defeated by 10 punches. Here’s the thing 1. Get three stars 2. Wait for the dreamland express and then throw them before he lands his uppercut 3. Repeat this after his first knockdown. 4. Then he reached to Berserker Rage, punch him his wink uppercuts for two star punch for TKO 🎉
You can beat him in 6. Get a star in the first phase, throw it at the Dreamland Express (either his boo taunt or the first uppercut works), do it again in the second phase, get another star off a winking uppercut during his rage, then throw it after he gets tired.
Skip the tutorial actually proved that you can beat almost every title defense boxer in one punch. The exception is King hippo, which requires more punches in order to win by decision ( Which is how you can be to boxer in one punch).
18:00 at the moment where you fight mr.Sandman you can just get one star and dodge until he use Dreamland and use star punch (and you could end this fight with 7 punches)
Shame Macho Man didn't go for the spinning clothesline in round 1. You could have gotten a 4 punch KO on him because that move has a very specific weak point.
Surely you can knock Disco Kid down in 4 punches the first time. Also, Super Macho Man's 2nd knockdown can be done in one fewer punch if you save the 3-star punch for last. And would it take fewer punches in phase 3 if you got a 3rd star off one of the "hang ten" attacks, instead of punching the clothesline? And Mr. Sandman hasn't lost his instant knockdown spot where you star punch the first uppercut (or the preceding "boo") in the Dreamland Express. You only need 1 star for it to work. DK should be doable in fewer punches, too. If you can counter his jump attack with a 1-star punch three times in one round, you can beat him in 6 punches.
Title Defense Disco Kid doesn't start performing his Disco Flurry until after you've knocked him down once. As for Donkey Kong, defeating him with only 6 punches is only possible if you "take" damage along the way; the clap is unavoidable if you don't punch Donkey Kong before it connects.
