I am quite pleased with this watch for the most part. Styling is top notch and the solar recharging is awesome. It needed a half link to fit my wrist comfortably and even though Seiko doesn't offer one, a Seiko fan on the internet does and it matches 100% to the existing bracelet links. I do find the date window too small and very hard to read but I would rather have one than not. I was also surprised there is no screw down crown but then it is a Speedtimer and not a dive watch and I have plenty of others for that.
I was trying to get the blue dial limited (cough 10,000) edition, but it was sold out so got an SSC911 instead and so happy I did. Got a Seiko ‘mojito’ a few months back and Seiko just keep knocking it out the park
nice looking watch, but that weirdly placed date window would bother me. And the fact that it's a black on white date wheel. Why not make it a little less visually obtrusive and have a white on black wheel? Also not at fan of 21mm lugs.
Nice review Al. I picked up the ssc817 when they were released. Love the watch but I think these new ones are a better size. Liking the colourway of the one on review too.
Hi mate, without doubt, the SSC911. The 909 is too fancy imo. The bracelet alone is enough to put me off. That black finish will look very scruffy once it gets some scratches. That would worry me if i owned one. But...everyone is different, if you like that style then go for it mate....don't be swayed by others opinions because they arent the ones paying for it & wearing it..you are my friend! Let me know what you decided on! Cheers, Al
@@TheWatchChannelAU Thanks for responding. I'll definitely will have to think about this one as I do like the crystal blue (plus it's limited edition so maybe resell it at a higher price once its gone possibly?)
Had my eye on one and bought one in advance. Looks so good and the dimensions are perfect considering I have a 7.25 inch wrist. Out of 10 what would you give this one?
Surprisingly and being quite upfront..unseen, I was ready to trash it, but, the dial is really nice. Overall, I would give it an 8.5 out of 10.. It would have scored higher had they excluded that date window!
@@TheWatchChannelAU shame, I have the 2022 Seiko Astron and it has the best micro adjustment system. No tools required, quick and simple but it's makes it hard to wear others without it now.
Seiko have been trying real heard to move up market recently. Without really bringing anything more to the table. So you'll end up with pretty poor value most of the time.
I bought this watch and I absolutely love it, but I have a question... Has anyone else noticed that the action on the upper "A" button has less of a "click" when you press it than the lower "B" button to reset the chrono? Obviously, it's nothing like an automatic watch where there is a very definite click, but in my case the upper button feels a bit "softer" than the lower button and while there is a subtle click, it's less than the lower button. Is this normal? Anyone else notice this?
Hey Matt, no need to worry. I noticed this on the one I reviewed. I think the bottom one has a more pronounced click due to the mechanical component of resetting the chrono hand.
You forgot to mention that the power of the battery can be shown. Pressing the start knob and stopping it. And than presse the second button ik under shows you the capacity of the battery. Therefore you have the second red meter which is between F full and E Empty. Maybe you explain but i missed it.
Tried that but it didn't work. I don't think you need to press any button as the battery level is constantly displayed when the watch is in time keeping mode.
Shame that the brushing on the end links doesn't match the top of the lugs. Also, two micro adjustments? Wow. Yeah, plus pin & collars! UGH! C'mon Seiko, get with it. Always the same crappy bracelet. 6:44
It's nice but too big , it should be 40mm max otherwise it looks a big potato. It's a shame because it's nice , i don't know why they came up with this size

the blue one looks the business , anyone else feel a pogue reissue coming 🔥
Just bought this. Found one in Japan at £300! UK RRP is £590 - guess who got my money. ;)
Stunning watch, the perfect size! Great Review! 😍😍
Panda is nice, but I have the Prospex SSC819. Both are great watches

Beautiful watch but I do think it’s a tad big. The previous 39mm is a perfect size for most.

Totally agree
How would you compare this with SSC909P1? I'm debating on this or the SSC909P1

@@TheWatchChannelAU Excellent! Its a great value IMO! Love the content!
Date window ruined it for me, seems like Seiko always manages to mess up somewhere to deter potential buyers.
If that’s enough to ruin it for you I don’t think its a seiko issue
I would buy this in a heartbeat if it wasn’t for the date window :(
Very nice, does it have micro adjustment on the bracelet?
only the two small adjustments on the clasp...not much TBH

Very beautiful watch 😍 personally though I think it's a bit steep for only a solar movement chronograph. I thought it is a ceramic bezel?
it is a bit steep but it's a nice watch (looks wise anyway). Yes definitely not a ceramic bezel!

Lug width is odd at 21mm . So not much options for straps
a Masterpiece
Need more on wrist takes
understood...will do :)

Mine is the same as well. So I guess it's by design.

Dont you think the date is too small to see guys ???
I'd much prefer the 1/100 sec Speedtimer for it's originality rather than this Daytona lookalike.
Nicer on a rubber strap for me.

Bellissima 😍
The no for me is that it doesn't have a screw down crown :(
And what you gonna do with that? Play with it? Lol.
Its not a dive watch bro
Why Would Seiko Not Make This In AutoMatic lol
The do make one similar but its about $4,000!

DIA. LUG TO LUG ???
It's in the video mate
These "inspired by" watches are almost as bad as replicas.
really?
So no chronographs unless it's a Daytona?
This new Speedtimer is "inspired" by Seiko's own original 1969 Speedtimer, so how is that "As bad as a replica?"
Good looking but not buying another seiko until they give you a good, proper bracelet and clasp.
I thought the bracelet & clasp was quite good on this one
