Wish You Were Here was a monumental album, dedicated to Syd Barrett, from early Floyd albums like Relics, he lost his mind to LSD, He walked into the studio while it was being recorded... Shine on you crazy diamond, is Syd's dedicated track from the album.

Pink Floyd is a group - one of the most famous rock groups in history. David Gilmour, the guitarist is considered one of the best to ever pick up the instrument. They formed way back in 1968. What your seeing is the tip of an enormous iceberg. Second song is “Wish You We’re Here” a classic PF song. I don’t know where to start. Try listening to Comfortably Numb” live from their “Pulse” release-the guitar solo at the end is considered one of the best live solos ever played. ‘Dark Side of the Moon” released in the 70’s is one of the best selling albums of all time. I saw them at Yankee Stadium in 1994 which sold out in an hour -musical Mecca! This is very deep rabbit hole to go down, kind of one where you can never really come back out the same.

Floyd's albums are concept albums. As a rule, the songs run together. The only track that is kind of solo is "Money," on Dark Side of the Moon.
Trivia...when Syd Barrett went to name the group, he honored 2 different early 20th century blues artists; Floyd Baker & "Pink" Anderson. Pink lived most of his life in my home town of Spartanburg, SC. Floyd was from NC. I could take you to Pink's grave.

Hi Sushi and welcome to Pink Floyd, a legendary and long-lived rock band. I have a recommendation for you:
    1) Get comfortable and "switch off" (maybe with dim lighting)
    2) Slip on some good headphones and close your eyes (focus on music, not visuals)
    3) Listen to a PF track. As an intro I'd recommend "Time", "Money" or "Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts I-V"

Congrats, and Welcome to the Machine! Another angel gets its wings, listening to the best band ever. As thousands (millions) will probably attest to having grown up to and enjoyed for decades, it would be unbelievable if we could experience Pink Floyd for the first time again. For the ultimate trip, their most successful 4 albums, in the 70's, are meant to be listened to as entire works, so recommend , if at all possible, going chronological; Start with "Dark Side Of The Moon" one of the best albums of all time. Then, "Wish You Were Here" album (which the 2nd song you listened to is on, although the studio versions are usually better to hear first, then go to live version), followed by "Animals", and finally "The Wall". There's so much to experience, so take it slow and enjoy every song.

    From Wikopedia:
Pink Floyd is one of the most unique
and talented groups in history. Their earliest albums were very
experimental, and not as accessable musically as their later works.
All of their albums were concept albums and intended to be listend to
in their entirety. Pink Floyd has released a few “songs” but for
the most part, they released albums. Individual songs may not be
understood when listened to on their own, but are still amazing.
Their music takes you on an emotional journey. You shouldn't listen
if you are in a hurry, or have something else you need to do. The
music will almost put you in a trance and take you away. It is very
much like an audible movie. Their most popular album “The Dark
Side of the Moon” is one of the top selling albums in history.
Each side of the album is a continuous piece of music. The five
tracks on each side reflect various stages of human life, beginning
and ending with a heartbeat, exploring the nature of the human
experience, and (according to Waters) "empathy".[7]
    "Speak to
Me" and "Breathe" together stress the mundane and
futile elements of life that accompany the ever-present threat of
madness, and the importance of living one's own life - "Don't
    be afraid to care".[22]
By shifting the scene to an airport, the synthesiser-driven
instrumental "On the Run" evokes the stress and anxiety of
modern travel, in particular Wright's fear of flying.[23]
    "Time"
examines the manner in which its passage can control one's life and
offers a stark warning to those who remain focused on mundane
aspects; it is followed by a retreat into solitude and withdrawal in
    "Breathe
(Reprise)". The first side of the album ends with Wright and
    vocalist Clare
Torry's soulful metaphor for death, "The Great Gig in the
    Sky".[3]
The Dark Side of the Moon became one of the best-selling
    albums of all time[87]
and is in the top 25 of a list of best-selling
    albums in the United States.[45][88]
Although it held the number one spot in the US for only a week, it
remained in the Billboard album chart for 741weeks from 1973
    to 1988.[89][90]
The album re-appeared on the Billboard charts with the
    introduction of the Top
Pop Catalog Albums chart in May 1991, and has been a perennial
    feature since then.[91]
In the UK, it is the seventh-best-selling album of all time and the
highest selling album never to reach number one.[92]
Stop and think about that. 741 weeks or almost 15 years on the
    Billboard Charts.
Sorry for the long post, but you needed to know.

First time I heard this song was when I was in junior high, so about 1991 or 1992, but had been listening to them since I was 6 or 7. I saw the band Pink Floyd for the Division Bell Tour at the Rose Bowl in 1994. I also saw Roger Waters solo, he is one of the original band members (he wrote most of their songs but left the band in the early 1980s) in Irvine CA in 1997 or 1998. They are still my favorite band of all time. Just behind them are
    2. Lana Del Rey
    3. Eminem
    4. Metallica
    5. Bob Marley
    6. Billie Eilish
    7. Tupac Shakur
    8. Jimi Hendrix
...and so on. I love that you kept watching for Wish You Were Here. Amazing song, and album.

Others commenting below said it all. The circular screen you asked about is part of what they've been using in live shows for decades, and is used for many purposes. I'm glad people are requesting this band. Just a tidbit about this band... Dark Side of the Moon was released in 1973 and remained on the Billboard album chart for 741 weeks (14.25 years). Beyond numbers, their work over the decades has been extraordinary, both the music and, in some of their songs like the one you played, in lyric content. With lyrics, some of us believe it's better to think than to feel. Feeling is easy, but thinking takes work. Thanks for posting.

Welcome to Pink Floyd. Every song is a chapter in a fifty long year story. It does not matter where you start to listen, the order is there, but not important. it is the same story from beginning to end.
This band is phenomenal and you won't regret hearing a song they have finely crafted.Their study work is far out shined by their live work. They come alive on stage.

There is a movie of the this early concert that this film footage is taken from. There is 2 short interviews with David where the off camera voice asks what David thinks of the criticism the band is to dependent on technology and drugs. David answer's while the camera is close on his face (which is subtaly turning between orange to green and back again...or maybe that was just me) but I doubt that) with all the electronica you see on stage behind (which was a lot for that time period) replys " No...I don't think so." This concert was done in the amphitheater of Pompeii which was empty...so it was performed for the dead of.Pompeii who died in the lava flow from Mount Etna.

Cranked it up and the whole 5 houses owned by my landlord all joined in.... 10 rooms per house 5 houses all playing this at full volume. then everyone accross the street joined in too... A nightclub half a mile away complained as people in their quueue left came down and started partying in the street.. .Police came took 1 look and said there was nothing they could do as there were no complaints from any residents of the street.... PF always believed that there is just as much music between the notes as the ones being played, therefore the intentional 'space.' Many, many of today's quality bands site "PF as a major influence.
