As a history teacher who focuses on the Middle Ages, I can say this film really captures the medieval mindset in a way that modern people can understand. Zeffirelli is very good at taking us back in time in relatable ways.
Next to chosen series this film is about grace humility and humanity ,I see a parallel also how yeshua came to earth to preach the good news heal the sick and poor and the dying
Last night this movie saved me. Netflix had recommended a movie about a woman who was demonically possessed. I started watching it and started to get depressed. Then out of nowhere I shut it off and remembered that I owned Brother Sun Sister Moon, but hadn't seen it in years. I started watching it instead and soon I found myself crying and sobbing. The purity, innocence, light, and beauty of this movie lifted my spirit and I was overwhelmed with a great joy. I feel better today than I have in months. We are being bombarded 24/7 with fear and the demonically possessed are everywhere in MSM, government, and the arts. I will no longer participate in their dark game and brainwashing. I am changing the type of movies I watch and what type of music I listen. I just bought the soundtrack to this wonderful film and am listening to Donovan sing the beautiful songs he wrote for this film. We will get through this folks. Focus on light, not darkness and you will see a BIG change in your life.
This is so wonderful to read! I’m so happy for you. I completely understand what you mean about all the fear and horror the mainstream tries to project on us. My Bowen therapist recommended this today. Reading your comment has warmed my heart thank you 🙏🏻
It's a genuinely special movie, which has inspired many people to understand what real love is and to appreciate all the beautiful things Our Heavenly Father gave us. Love and blessings to you all.♥️
I saw this years ago, '74, maybe '75...in a small theater in Provincetown, MA. I remember being incredibly moved by it. Thanks for the trailer, and all the memories of that time of my life that it brought back.
This movie incredibly came about as a result of an auto accident. Zefferelli was a passenger in Gia Lolibridgida's car when it was in a terrible accidnet. While in the hospital Zefferelli promised St. Francis that if he intervied w/G-d and made sure he recovered, he would make a film about him. BSSM was the result.
Can't understand why some of the critics did not like this movie when it came out. It is so beautifully written and acted and the cinematography is amazing. Should have won 5 Oscars!
George I hope you will reply to this I have this movie I found it yesterday at a thrift store for a dollar...will I enjoy it???....I Catholic and love reading about the saints
I never heard of this film. Found the dvd in a thrift store for a $1.00 I'm Catholic convert and St. Francis is a saint I admire. He's the saint of animals. I'm a big animal lover.
there are a lot of movies on about the life of different saints. you can find in the you tube and in other sites. or in catholic bookshops. by watching you will learn more about Christ
@@Irene-ig1ct Thank you for your comment! I'm not catholic, so I never knew about his Canticle of the Sun. I Googled it, and I found it truly beautiful! Now I understand where Donovan got the inspiration for his lyrics. 🙏 Many blessings to you.
I loved Zefirrelli and Donovan at the time (having seen Romeo and Juliet). I was totally besotted with that time period of old, Tiziano Vecilli, Da Vinci, Durer, Caravaggio, Gentileschi, all lived and spoke to me), so when this came out, it moved me so. It didn't hurt, that it dovetailed brilliantly with the way I viewed the world. Now we have labels, or at least an understanding of people's fluidity a bit more. For me, it was art, and music and movies, especially this one, that kept me alive. Such beauty is in this world Someone had posted this to another social media and I came looking for a clip, because we forget so much, which means others don't know. I am grateful for this reminder, of my youth, of love and passions. Thank you for putting this here.
No início dos anos 1970 estudei três anos num seminário católico inspirado por São Francisco de Assis. Depois desisti de continuar os estudos, não perseverei. Mas até hoje mantenho minha admiração nesse Santo que foi um marco na fé católica.
I am an advait vedanta (hindu) follower. My spiritual teacher mentioned the scene of the pope and Francis in a lecture. I will watch the movie for sure.
I'm an advait vedanta too! Please let me know what you thought of this movie. My heart and soul seemed to long for the spiritual awakening Francesco experienced. I've never felt so close to real love.
Did you know that Lynne Frederick and Candace Glendenning both auditioned for the role of Clare? Candace Glendenning was turned down because she was considered to be “too exotic” looking for the part. Lynne Frederick made it very far and ended up making it down to the last two with Judi Bowker, but they ultimately picked Judi for it.
And my baptism Saint (though my parents did not even realise it). I was interested in nature from age 4 and trained in biology and ecology to PhD level. I realised the significance of my baptism date a couple of years ago. Yesterday I returned from Assisi (by car - a loooooooooong drive). It was a wondrous pilgrimage to a stunningly beautiful place, with the woods full of cyclamen in flower. The weather could not have been more perfect (in the sense of not too hot or dry). This year I will be 60, so I went to thank St Francis for His intercession with the Holy Spirit, enriching my life with the love of nature EVERY SINGLE DAY. I spent half an hour and more praying at the Tomb of St Francis and of course it was one of the most special sessions in my entire life... God bless you!

An epic story, that still has deep meaning for all humankind..to live in harmony with the Natural World..whereever we are..🙏🙏🙏
Every shot, every word, is perfect. This movie glorifies God like no other.

You made a good choice. I get depressed when I watch that kind of stuff too, so don't watch it either.
Gregorian chant is "right ordered" music. We began listening to it at home and fell in love with it.
Demonically possessed?

What a great memory
I just saw it a few weeks ago and I wish I could reach Francesco's level of devotion, but the worries of mundane life 🤦🏽♀️
ord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hate, let me sow love. That says it all, doesn't it?

I think Romeo and Juliet created unrealistic expectations. This could never be the same sort of film, so some people got disappointed.
And the MUSIC!
There’s the corny music and song but also notice Jesus was only shown twice, that’s strange for a founder and a saint like Francis
One of my all time favorite films

I like how the trailer gave away almost the entire plot and yet, people thronged to the cinemas to watch this..
Because it’s the experience of it

1:40 😆 🤣 😂 😹
I love this movie
Movies like this should be on Netflix.
Not cruel enough
What an awesome film. Often wonder what became of Graham Faulkner? As for Judi Bowker .... who didn't have a crush on her in the 70's?
I think the guy went into banking.

If ever a movie needed to be redone, it's the story of St. Francis. Between the bizarre soundtrack and terrible acting it's really unsettling.
No, how can you say that? It was Made in the seventies... extremly fitting to this Hippie Times, this Feeling of life.... wonderful.
