I love St. FRANCIS of Assisi. He was born again Christian. HOLYSPIRIT WAS WITH HIM TO EXPERIENCE THE PURITY AND COMPLETE SURRENDER TO OUR HEAVELY FATHER....
@janmarbol2023 Born again, christian is not cult....Jesus told Nicodemus Man has to be born again with the spirit and water...St. Francis of Asissi was such a category... He felt such purity, which liberated him from the addictions of the world.
Since the day I heard stories of St. Francis in 1988 I was convinced, and after 12 years I became a Franciscan and now am a proud First Order Franciscan brother in the Anglican Communion.,
I was born in 88'. I had the same wishes myself and still do to till this day 2021- The bishop said my views are not of the Catholic church or it's tradition. I said to the arch diocese priest who I had several meeting with. I told him that we as our lords children don't need a middle man for confession. Just speaking is confessing. I explained how money is not how the church should function alone and placing Christ second. People think they have to offer money to the church in order to receive help from Our lord. And I oppose this idea of tidings. Giving selfless to others is the best way to tide. Not by paying the church's light bill while homelessness is everywhere around the church. Banquets in Christ name on holidays is wrong when others are going hungry in their own home because they can't afford a proper meal. Those people serving the church banquet have fridge at home with food already. Look at what Joel Osteen did as a Christian? Not right. Right.? There issues I addressed and I was rejected. I wish I could just be with monks in service to our Lord Christ day by day. I'm always turned away. Even in silence. It's always something that they see unfit. No tattoos, no kids, no police record, no baggage, I'm educated from MIT . No sex even. But it doesn't matter. So strange I think. Well I'm very happy and proud of you!!! 🙏. God bless you and all in need. I'm a Great believer in compassion. Merry Christmas this December 25,2021. ✋☺✋

This movie still touches me deeply, even after being raised in the communal Christian Cult, "The Children of God" ....and having left many years ago, I still want spiritual communion and more than what money and the material world has to offer. It makes me cry, there has to be a better way than the society we find ourselves in.
Abe Johnson There is a better way. Total abandonment to the glory and salvation of Christ. You need to find a good church; be transformed by the Word; and experience a true relationship with the Lord of all Creation.
Abe Johnson All that is required is for you to be Born Again you don't need any church or emotional music altar call--if you come to Christ you'll have a real relationship with God. For the sake of your soul I hope you'll become Born Again.

The first time I watched this movie was during the heydey of the 70s Jesus Movement. It was intensely moving to me and remains so today. This part, considered the "born again" scene, represents a separation taking place outwardly that we all must allow to take place inside us. We must decrease for Him to increase in our lives. That is, we should first seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness. What we need, God will provide, not as we walk the streets as poor beggars such as Francis, but as we lay aside every weight, run the race, put on Christ, and mortify the deeds of the flesh.

As an ardent fan of this film, the ACTUAL CONVERSION SCENE is when Francesco stands in front of the icon crucifix at the ruins of the Church of San Damiano. Here he hears the voice of God telling him "Go and repair my church". If you watch that scene, Francesco has his hand to his head and as he lowers it he goes from shadow to light. A brilliant idea from the Director Franco Zeffirelli.
Stanislav Grof mentioned this film in an interview I truly love. This film was out a year before my birth. I will have to look it up and see it as this scene alone is beautiful. Well captured and exquisitely acted..
How I felt back then in my youth, and I haven't quite lost it all even now in my cynical old age! This scene helped change my life, in more ways than one!
Watching this movie reminds me of when I saw Aronofsky’s movies, including Noah (a guilty pleasure movie about Noah saving the remains of God’s creation from the flood), in 2014 when I was in college. I cried a lot watching his movies. In June of 2015, I went on a pilgrimage to Italy, visiting Assisi along the way, and St Francis being the patron saint of nature felt coincidental and familiar.
Today Pope Francis captures some of the challenging truth and profound simplicity of St. Francis. There is in all of us a desire to live authentically and to live in a way that is in harmony with creation and truly give life. There is nothing stopping us -- except our fears -- St. Francis was a truly free man.
Garry Cappleman so we should all live in transparency, always in service to loving others...especially those suffering in despair. we who have enough are bound by our own love to give unto those whose paths have served them pain and suffering. We’ve known our own suffering and in that knowing we must have grace to alleviate all others with our lives...because even in suffering we can serve others who are suffering, thats Gods part working through our lives on earth..Spirits in the Material World
@@an7tmo794Francis did want to follow Jesus in a real way and he did. However, unlike Martin Luther, he was not at odds with the organized church. He believed that the Pope was the head of the church and he submitted to his authority. He went to Rome to get permission to start his order. I don’t think he was extremely involved with the organizational side of things. He wanted to live the words of Jesus in a literal way and I don’t think the Pope and the cardinals did. Still, Francis didn’t separate himself and go on his own. This is just my 2 cents. 😊
These religious zeferilli movies are just untoppable imo, never get tired of watching this, jesus of nazareth and ofc jesus christ superstar. The zeferilli movies are just sublime to watch and provide such a nice change of pace from modern life
+lauc62 Glad to see someone draw the parallel here. I'm inclined to think that St. Francis had more in common with ascetics from the East than with most Christians from the West.
That's incorrect , Francis of Assisi was simply following the well established ascetic tradition within Catholicism. For there's always been a strong ascetic tradition there, from the earliest days, with lay / religious wanting to achieve a total rejection of the material world, and live in the Spirit of the Holy Trinity. Many of the monks from both the East and West, like St. Jerome, the Desert Fathers, Simeon Stilites, St Anthony of Egypt and others, lived like that, using contemplation, poverty, silence and prayer to seek unino with, and grace from the Holy Trinity; and that continues today in the Holy Catholic Church in Orders like the Carthusians, the Benedictines and others. They continue to build their lives around holy Mass, poverty, prayer , work, study and the contemplation of God.
Yes saint Francis is an example of living happy and he is an example. Patron saint of animals and nature! His compasión and connection with god an creation !
Francis received the Spirit Baptism - the tangible crashing down of Divine Grace that totally obliterates egoity and completely turns one's life around. He is what is called a Bodhisattva in the Buddhist tradition.
I think the movie is yes, romantize, because the real St Francis image was a grim & skinny, well worn-out man. But he is probably not mad, he ((& Jesus(?)) we're talking about spiritual dimension, & great true love (?).
Graham Faulkner had a terrific sexy body when he was younger. And Valentina Cortese is perhaps the most stunning and Drop Dead Gorgeous italian goddess since Carla Gravina.🤩😍❤️👏
Abe, there really is a better way, I agree. If a church is made anything bad, God did not do that; humanity did. Of course there are instances where people took what they thought was God's will into their own hands, but wasn't really God's will. God loves everyone, everyone. No one is without His love, no exception. I am telling you the truth, my friend. God is so good. I can honestly say God has been good to me.. and I want you to experience the beauty that life can be with God the Father, Christ Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit in your life. God wants a close friendship, relationship with you, and He loves you so much, more than anyone could ever dream or imagine loving you. He is truly good. It is amazing how beautiful and wonderful life is when you have Christ in your life. I want you to know the truth.. Christ Jesus died for the sins/ wrongdoings of the whole world, each one of us, and it is because He loves each and every one of us. and He wants us to be in Paradise, Heaven with Him when we pass from this life. Sometimes it overwhelms my soul and spirit to know how good and merciful and faithful and lovely God is. He knows our hearts and our thoughts, and He wants each of us to know that we can talk to Him about anything, he is SO patient, and so gracious. He is so constant, and He doesn't give up on anyone. According to personal experience, I have seen that pretty much anything that tries to pull us away from Him, that is something the enemy likes. the enemy, in Hell, has a silver tongue, and he can make anyone believe anything. He can even disguise into a seemingly- benevolent anything. But all the enemy who lives in hell wants is to make us waste away to nothing. take us away from the one who TRULY loves us. the one who truly loves us and wants what is best for us, is Jesus Christ. This is the truth. God wants us to know that not only does He love us without end, but He sees us as treasures, He sees and knows us with grace and mercy, and we are precious to Him, He is so loving and wants us to have a purpose beyond this life. He has a plan, A higher calling, which sounds great to me, for each one of us.I deeply hope you find peace in Christ Jesus the Lord, and come to know how much He loves us. It is up to the individual to decide what path to choose. I hope you are well, Abe. :)
This is one of my most favorite movies, and this scene truly brings me to tears every time I see it. Having said that, the movie over-romanticises the story of Francis. We don't know exactly what happened, but it probably wasn't as clean, clear-cut, and beautiful as portrayed. Francis, if he did this today, would be hospitalised and diagnosed "bipolar disorder," symptoms of which, among other things, are preoccupation with religion, grandiosity, poor impulse control and impaired judgement, among other things. When I was 18 I was hospitalised for a couple of months and diagnosed bipolar. Ironically, this movie debuted just as I was discharged. After discharge I gave my entire life savings, some $US 1200 to the Roman Catholic church. On several occasions scenes something like this occurred in my life, so I can see the parallel. If you stop and consider this, it may occur to you that Jesus himself exhibited similar behaviour and his family too thought him out of his mind. Beautiful as all of this is, it is nevertheless, madness. Even the church thought so, as some years later the Franciscan order was taken from Francis and put in the charge of others. Also, a branch of Franciscans called the Spirituals who took poverty to nearly extremes like this were suppressed as being too extreme. Jesus, Francis, and millions of others like them, were and are mentally ill.
Rejection of materialism is not mental illness. Mental illness is losing one's faculties and not being able to relate to reality. I think the exact opposite is true with Francis of Assisi, for he saw what reality was, that it was facile and fleeting ,while the Spirit endures and it seeks its return to God and its supernatural origin. The challenge for us all is: how do we live / survive in this material hell-hole, as we must, while focusing on what is important, namely our full Spiritual union with the Holy Trinity. Now that's the really hard stuff.
Indeed, and also has biological, ecological, and spiritual dimensions. "The stone which the builders have rejected has become the cornerstone." Yeshua bar Yosef was a most irregular Meshiach, the unexpected Messiah, king of fools and the ignorant. But willy nilly, the flawed, suffering servant Jesus, living in, within, and through his followers across years, decades, centuries, millennia......conquers the human race and the human condition, in all its varied, unbearably beautiful pain, and carries us all with his arms outstretched upon the cross. Look upon the one whom we have pierced, gaze into his tortured eyes, and behold his disfigured face........gaze deeply at him and see your own visage, feel his pain, your pain, all human pain, and become willingly one with it, his pierced hands and feet yours, his wounded side a brutal, dark gash into our hearts, every heart, your heart.....feel your strength ebb away, and fire burning your very bones, your tongue parched and cleaving to the roof of your mouth......become one with this image of the suffering One....... "Eloi, eloi, lama sabacthani.....My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Thirty-odd years on, from all night praying and meditating on Psalm 22........breakthroughs here and there. He reaches out and touches you, he is there walking the long, dark, lonely road with me, right by my, your, our sides. Slowly dawn comes, and all of nature wakes from cool, peaceful, dewy sleep. And he comes for you, yes, he comes again, and yet again, and still evermore again, for you. You know he lives, never again will doubt sear your conscience. Bone weary, confused, lost and forsaken, caught up in the worst dramas imaginable and awed in fear of those unimaginable, even so, even though you should die, you will live....live with, and in, and through him .......forever. AMEN+
Ksan ‘Mental illness’s’ may be the best terminology for humanity shedding its doctrine conditioned shell. That living without or at least free of the shackles of entropic society is a more important path than what has happened in the world now. My Bipolar realms serve me to create a life where I see the evils as thoughts and sound manifested. Voices of love & hatred resonate in the dark world of happiness and the bright world of despair. When life hurts so badly we cant stand to live it, thats when the release comes and serves us. I see psychiatric symptoms as reality’s that were always here throughout time serving in different hosts.. in other words theres nothing new under the Ancient Sun. Ghosts and Spirits are energy’s that have purposes, I don’t mean like ghost hunters or the bastardized hollywood versions of ghosts but more like ancient cultures who see the realms of the unconscious mind as we see the outside world to the inside world, steps away. We who can feed those who cannot feed themselves must act and not judge. We see the snake because the snake formed our vision...thats a very literal statement.
I believe that the majority of the human race never experienced such a radical conversion like Francis experienced. My wife and i have been giving away for free copies of this movie during years.
Sadly they didn't... But I kind-of did. Being born again is wonderful. I never expected it, surely did not deserve it; but God is kind and merciful, the Holy Spirit with the words of the Saviour active and innovative and beautiful...
When Francis says that Jesus was a beggar and also the Apostles, was he correct? I understand that Francis understood the words of Jesus in a literal way (sell all that you have and give it to the poor, then come and follow me) and so he gave up the wealth he could have had, but how does he conclude that Jesus and the Apostles were beggars?
I think he meant that Jesus (on his three years preaching) and the Apostles lived of donations because they couldn't work with all the evangelizing they did. Remember Jesus told the Apostles to go to cities and stay in one house and eat their food, this maybe can be seen as being a beggar. So they were not beggars in a literal sense but i think is close enough to want St Francis wanted to express.
They had no homes (at all or while on the move), and they sonetimes relied on food offered. Some benefactors supplied money, but they did not earn a living...
Graham Faulkner tinha um corpo magnífico e muito sensual quando era jovem. E Valentina Cortese provavelmente é a mais estonteante e esplendorosa deusa italiana de todos os tempos desde Carla Gravina.🤩😍❤️👏
Francis may have been touched in the head from his wartime experiences (hence the stripping and climbing the roof after a sparrow) but there’s no doubt he had a beautiful heart and a sincere respect for God and humanity.
At first he and the original Franciscan brethren begged only for stones to fix their broken chapel and bread to continue his work. During Francis's leadership they never accepted money or any means of material wealth bigger than good sandals to help them on pilgrimage or flowers given to them by the children who sought them to bless the animals. Then his order progressed to toil the land so they could feed themselves but the barefoot part of the Order(the original branch, now there's also a priesthood branch and a layman division) doesn't eat meat and still dresses in rough spun wool that you can find in sacks.
John 3:3 Yeshua answered and said to him: “Timeless truth I am telling you: If a person is not born again, it is impossible for that one to see the Kingdom of God.”
Painful to his parents that he denounced them and all earthly endearments, but you know they actually took him before the Roman Catholic Church for disciplinary issues...this scene depicts the perfect scenerio for Francis to just say, F@@@ @@@ and Here I Am. Period.
This movie was great impact on my life. I am a catholic priest. I love this beautiful saint a lot

We’ve known our own suffering and in that knowing we must have grace to alleviate all others with our lives...because even in suffering we can serve others who are suffering, thats Gods part working through our lives on earth..Spirits in the Material World
I "think" some of my fellow Franciscan seminarians watched the movie just for this scene!
I want to be happy, I want to be like the birds the rest is no use to me. 🙏🏼😭
Is that really St. Francis' words/wordings? /(I thought he wanted to follow Jesus in a real way, not the established way).
The zeferilli movies are just sublime to watch and provide such a nice change of pace from modern life
That's the spirit of the avadhuta, a real ascetic.
Saint Francis... and pretty much every single other monk, nun, and friar.
When I receive Christ in my life this is one of the movies that really touched my heart true conversion.
This is so much better than the newer movie/series. Much dramatic and with great acting.
Una de mís películas preferidas ❤
Yes saint Francis is an example of living happy and he is an example. Patron saint of animals and nature! His compasión and connection with god an creation !
What really pierced me was when St Francis said " I'm not your son no more." 😢
This is the best scene of St. FRANCIS OF Assisi. Relinquishing material world....
Wow, God is love
Great.!!!!!
Graham Faulkner gave up acting in 1984; he took employment in the banking industry.
If you want to find your true path.....make sure its on a warm day........and definitely where Judy bowker lives
Amo a Francisco ❤
Francis received the Spirit Baptism - the tangible crashing down of Divine Grace that totally obliterates egoity and completely turns one's life around. He is what is called a Bodhisattva in the Buddhist tradition.
I think the movie is yes, romantize, because the real St Francis image was a grim & skinny, well worn-out man. But he is probably not mad, he ((& Jesus(?)) we're talking about spiritual dimension, & great true love (?).
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Gloria a Dios Altísimo!
He is the true showcase of the living Jesus.
Graham Faulkner had a terrific sexy body when he was younger. And Valentina Cortese is perhaps the most stunning and Drop Dead Gorgeous italian goddess since Carla Gravina.🤩😍❤️👏
彼は「NO!」
Amazing
Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.
+Lauren Pinekenstein That was amazingly well said, thank you for posting that wonderful comment Lauren! =']
+Michael Davis "Mental illness" is a social and cultural construct.
"Eloi, eloi, lama sabacthani.....My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
Thirty-odd years on, from all night praying and meditating on Psalm 22........breakthroughs here and there.
@ulfw111 What blog, if I may ask, was that?
DEUS MEUS ET OMNIA .
Splendido.
Che bel ragazzo che era Graham Faulkner wow !
My labradoodles' favorite saint!
Saint Francis of Assisi pray for me!!!!!
Italian clothing in this period looks like a fusion of European and middle Eastern
A melhor parte desse filme, que coragem 🙏👏👏👏
Where I will get this movie.. Full name please
The name is Brother Sun, and Sister Moon 😊
My god and my all
Graham Faulkner tinha um corpo magnífico e muito sensual quando era jovem. E Valentina Cortese provavelmente é a mais estonteante e esplendorosa deusa italiana de todos os tempos desde Carla Gravina.🤩😍❤️👏
Which is this movie
Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972). Go for it.
Francis may have been touched in the head from his wartime experiences (hence the stripping and climbing the roof after a sparrow) but there’s no doubt he had a beautiful heart and a sincere respect for God and humanity.
Is that what really happened? the Italian chronicles mention that somewhere?
The St. Francis statue in my yard has on clothes. What a shame.
when he begged, what did he beg for? Clothes? Why not keep the ones he had on?
At first he and the original Franciscan brethren begged only for stones to fix their broken chapel and bread to continue his work. During Francis's leadership they never accepted money or any means of material wealth bigger than good sandals to help them on pilgrimage or flowers given to them by the children who sought them to bless the animals. Then his order progressed to toil the land so they could feed themselves but the barefoot part of the Order(the original branch, now there's also a priesthood branch and a layman division) doesn't eat meat and still dresses in rough spun wool that you can find in sacks.
Medieval times was something else
I study in a christian school and my section's name is St. francis its the best classroom.
is that a young Jackson Browne? ; ]
RIP Franco Zeffirelli
Is this the 1961 film?
No, this is 1972 I think.
GO FRANCIS GO!
Enlighten brought me here....
John 3:3 Yeshua answered and said to him: “Timeless truth I am telling you: If a person is not born again, it is impossible for that one to see the Kingdom of God.”
Lo Qué nace de la carne es carne y lo que nace del Espíritu Es Espíritu 💙
Painful to his parents that he denounced them and all earthly endearments, but you know they actually took him before the Roman Catholic Church for disciplinary issues...this scene depicts the perfect scenerio for Francis to just say, F@@@ @@@ and Here I Am. Period.
what an amazing man stood the test of time
Lee Montague estava muito sexy nesse filme. Ele foi o John B. Destry britânico.🤩😍❤️👏
