As an animal lover and specifically a lover of wolves this is my favorite story of a saint. And I've always found it inspiring ever since I heard it at church. Beautiful painting
That is so cool. Thank you for sharing this story. I have always loved them also. They are such a beautiful and majestic creature. I have this theory and people may think I am nuts, but in the Garden of Eden; Adam and Eve could speak to the animals and they could communicate. I believe that they STILL UNDERSTAND what we humans say. I truly believe that. Unfortunately WE cannot understand them. We had a guinea pig named Pigaboo and he used to squeak speak, not just when he was hungry. When he was younger, my son and I had gone to a brook by our home and we brought Pigaboo with us. After we were finished playing in the water, we packed up and we were walking back up the hill. There was a chipmunk on one of the tree branches and we had the guinea pig in his little carrier. I had my son take him out and show him the chipmunk and I said to him, (you are gonna think I am nuts, but I said, "Can you say hi to the chipmunk," and he did. My son held him up high so he and the chipmunk could see each other. He started squeaking and making his guinea pig noises and the chipmunk who by this time had climbed to a higher branch, he actually came down and he perched on a lower branch and stayed there the whole time that Pigaboo was squeaking. One of us moved and it startled him and then he scooted way up the tree, but it was so amazing! Animals are a whole lot smarter than most people think they are. Sad to say, but I think that animals a far smarter than a lot of people these days. The dumbing down of America has been an unqualified success...
Animals are very intelligent. I met a white parakeet at an exhibition. It held out its leg to me with claws folded through the grid of its cage. As I did not dare hold its leg it further came down the floor of the cage and showed me to pull the twisted iron wire .....to unlock it's cage.
How stupid to you have to be to believe this tale?? Why not just believe in Star Wars or The Lord of the Ring? "Saint" Francis thought he could levitate. Really. The faithful don't seem to have the capacity to think and reject silly claims. They'd rather just indulge themselves in feel good stories that have absolutely no chance of being conclusively proven. Then, they claim to be holy and above the norm for this trait. Sad, really. That's why religion is slowly fading away. Be sure to send God money, sounds like he needs some.

Saint Francis was one of the most holy beings that ever graced this world and no amount of doubt, sarcasm or verbal abuse of those who know and believe will change any of it. Some are quite content to live in their myopic world until they can no longer tolerate it.
No, human belief in true religion is fading away, while false belief in bogus religions are rapidly gaining ground.....it's called the great apostasy, of which you are a part of.
Sad to hear you've bought into the cult-like mentality of many anti-theists. God never asked for money at at any point. In the same way you don't need to be a church member to be Christian, you don't need to pay money to get into heaven. In fact its said that rich people will have a very hard time getting into heaven. Nor is religious belief on the decline. The sheer number of Christians increases every year in nearly every country. Non-religious people only have increased as a percentage in some ultra-secular countries. The people who turn away from religion only do so as a result of church corruption like that in the Catholic church, or as a result of churches turning away from Christian values. Hence why despite having the lowest percentage of church attendance in history the numbers of US Christians has never decreased. There's also the matter that non-religious people have fewer births than deaths, so will soon be on the decline as a whole. Countries like Russia have already learned the hard way what having a non-religious society does to people, and are reversing the trend with 70% of the country now Christian.
