Basilio is involved in The Ring Fight of the Year 5 years in a row - 1955 1956 1957 1958 1959 INSANE!
He beat Robinson in 1 out of 2 fights both fights ended by a split decision.
A third fight was going to take place but both fighters dident want it to happen because of the mob being involved.
He retired in 1961 with a record of 56 wins ( 27 KO's ) 16 losses ( 2 KO both by Gene Fullmer ) and 7 draws
He is one of my Favorite fighters of all time and if you ask me he is also one of the greatest of all times.
Song name The Roots - The Fire
Without a dobut, Carmen Basilio had the spirit, toughness and heart that you rarely see in the sport today!
Its inspiring when hes just about to hit the floor and he tells himself to stay up, what a warrior.
R.I.P. Carmen Basilio, one of the toughest SOB's I have ever seen in the ring.
You can tell he is a fighter just by his eyes.... he's got fury and confidence written all over him.
Takes unbelievable amount of will to stay on your feet when your body is basically trying to force you down, somehow Carmen stayed up, what a hero man.
Had the fortune of spending time at his home visiting his nephew (a school mate). I remember him as being a real gentleman.
Basilio's amazing, so much heart
Great video man, Basilio's one of my all-time favourites.
I watch this every now and then, and find it inspiring, for working out, and just plain entertaining. I disagree with others, the music, unlike others I've seen, really suits the video
Biggest heart ever and a very special guy. Thank you for the great video
Yes he was
Gone but never forgotten.
Rest in peace, Champ!
Tough, rugged, determined, and always an honest effort. A bit too small to be a dominant middleweight, he'd have been better at 154.
Tremendous respect for this man. Proper warrior
They made stone look like sand, those italians were chilsided out of granite
Funny thing is, if you look at Carmen's record, it doesn't seem so great. 56 - 16 - 27 ko's. Then again, it's a fine record for a pro boxer. But look at all the great fights he had. He probably gave SRR his 2 greatest fights. He had 11 world title fights at welter and middleweight, and won 9 of them. One of the best welter and middleweights, bar none.
" Basilio training in private today. No admittance "
Fabulous Tribute G3ner0 !
All my respect & support.
Sedik
In an era when Italian-Americans were harder than stone, Carmen was the roughest toughest of them all.
No offense meant, G3ner0, because I know how much time, effort, and talent it takes to make a good compilation. I appreciate your work, but certain music styles may appeal to a small demographic yet be so off-putting to other demographics that they turn the clip off over the music. It's better to employ an instrumental that may appeal to the widest possible worldwide demographic instead of appealing simply to a relatively small fringe demographic.
Carmen Basilio, tough as they come, you put the pansies of today to shame.
Rest in peace champ, you earnt it!
Real life Rocky Balboa. Tough as nails, not even the mob could make him bend.
Good footage of Hall-of-Famer Carmen Basilio, but he deserves much better music than the crapola playing in the background....
One of the greats! Great boxer and great chin!
G3ner0, why do you not have at least 50,000 views per video. You have the best stuff out.
BEAUTIFUL.
this video is INCREDIBLE. I watch it every morning, pure motivation. Thank you.
When a reporter asked Carmen after his second fight with Sugar Ray whether his closed left eye cost him the fight Carmen said no that his other one was fine....he was not being funny....you don't have fighters like THAT anymore.
My anchestor...the best of one...Basilio's family
Are you actually related?
Im a filipino and i'am not related to him but now i know why i fell in love with boxing who is willing to train me?
2:09 WON"T GO DOWN!!!!!!! Love you Carmen Basilio.
Carmen hated Ray Robinson.
When the Italians were the strongest
Lets not forget, Ray Robinson was out his prime when he fought Fulmer, Basilio ect.. Basilio is one of the best indeed.
I agree with you...a great!!! Faboulous the soundtrack!!!
Im a huge carmen basilio fan, he playfully slapped me twice when I met him in a gym in upstate NY! Ruggid old timer! tough as they come...to this day he claims he beat sugar ray twice, he says that when he lost, "I walked to my dressing room they had to carry him!"
We lost a hero today, tough as they come. When I formally met Carmen Basilio at a local gym I reached out to shake his hand and out of no where he smacked me on both cheeks and he still hit hard and fast even as an old man. I shook it off and exclaimed "You beat Sugar Ray (Robinson)! he shook his head seriously and then held up two fingers and said "Twice I beat him" He wished me luck with my boxing career and I always thought that incident would in fact bring me luck in boxing
What a great guy. I'm guessing the fight at the beginning of the video was with Demarco. Rest in peace champ.
