Joe Louis was 37, when they fought. Marciano liked Joe and didn't want the fight but Joe did. Also, Marciano's handlers thought it would be a good stepping stone to get where he wanted to be. Marciano visited Joe after the fight and told him he felt bad, Joe told him no hard feelings. Joe also told people that he'd never been hit by anyone as hard as what the Rock hit him! The two of them always remained friends.
My uncle has no choice to fight Joe..... he called Joe and said joe I don't want the fight..... joe said Rocky I need the fight to make some money......
Not-so-fun fact: When Rocky died after his private plane crashed, at the funeral Joe Louis walked up to his casket, kissed it and weeped. It shows the amount of love and respect they had for one another, even in death.
My dad still cried when he talked about Rocky getting killed my dad was friends with Rocky’s brother. A lot of guys never see their dad’s cry to give an idea of how much he love the rock
Rocky Marciano never gets the credit he deserves. Incredible heart, stamina and power. Not a great watch, not an elegant fighter but an absolute machine. Had a great chin, he was made of stone.
I LOVE Marciano's style. He threw all his punches with homicidal intent. And he was a legit tough guy. He doesn't get a lot of credit or at least the credit a lot of us think he deserves because he beat up a lot of tomato cans on the way to winning the belt and only had 6 fights after becoming champ. His competition wasn't as good. He beat former champ joe louis for example when louis was 37 and had retired after defending his belt 25 times. The Rock retired at 32 and said that the fight would have ended differently 10 years earlier. If he's not on your mt rushmore of fighters then you're not a real boxing enthusiast.
Old post but I disagree on the enjoyment watching him fight. The nonstop pressing forward and throwing hard punches is a great watch. I've never seen another fighter who was impressive in round 15 as he was in round 1. Most bigger guys run out of steam in 6 rounds or so and then it becomes a hug fest. Or take Merriweather, arguably the best boxer ever. His fights are always boring though.
The thing about Marciano was he wasn't genetically gifted, had small hands and a short reach and was clumsy on his feet but still overcame all this to beat the best with pure heart, guts and power 👍
@@mrtoad3582 Rocky's KO punch against Walcott in the 13th round in their 1st Title fight is the most clutch and the greatest. Walcott was out cold for 5 minutes.
Marciano was 185 lbs, Louis 215. 5'10 to 6'2. Not to mention Marciano had the shortest reach for a HW champion. Rocky had insane power and heart that was unmatched during his time.
Louis was way used up and tired to use those advantages. Joe was almost 38. It' the equilivent of Marciano staying around for Ali or Liston in earl y 1960's and someone bragging how Liston or Ali destroyed 38 year Marciano.
His power is overrated. near 60 loss ex middle journeyman Ted "The Tiger "Lowry went 20 rounds total with the Rock. Ted 5'10 175 vs 5'11 186 Marciano. Rock couldn't put dent in Lowry . Providence Journal had Lowry winning 6-4. Sports writer for Journal wrote "Wrong man got decision". The Tiger should of had his arms raised."
@@hollisray6212 Hey liar, Louis couldn't KO Ted either.Ted was just an elusive guy who cared only about surviving. That was early in Rockys career where he couldn't deal with boxers.Later on he would have finished him, he did way better in the second anyway
"Oh yeah, Joshua has as much stamina as Marciano." Joshua get gassed a few rounds into every fight, has to take rounds off, long breathers during rounds, etc. Marciano went full bore for 15.
Counts of punches thrown also show that Marciano was throwing twice as many punches, around 80 per round, than modern fighters, and doing it from round 1 to 15. Joe often lets slip that he's just a spectator like the rest of us and has huge knowledge gaps, just cause he's on the RUclips, doesn't mean he knows what the F he's talking about, but this clip was pretty embarrassing, even by the Rogan standard of gaff.
yeah IDK why Joe would say that but he does freely admit to being clueless at times and is happy to be corrected. HW back then was different than today, it was judged and the refs were different in the way the ran the fight. AJ doesn't have near the stamina to last 15 rounds let alone throw punches like that. HWs today are just too big to throw that much weight around for 12-15 rounds. Gotta remember Marciano was 180 which is a LHW today and not 230+
Modern heavyweights have a size advantage over champions from the past, but the old masters had stamina that was FAR superior to the fighters of today.
Ismail Ghani Prime Marciano beats Prime Patterson. However, Liston was one of the greatest heavyweights ever, if he hadn't been involved with the mob or Ali's Islamic backers. The Rock vs Liston is a dream fight
That's WHY they had more stamina..alot of heavyweights in those days were built like light heavyweights today. But they wouldnt take the power today..That's the difference.
Joe Rogan is incorrect when he says Joe Louis was "way over 40" when he lost to Rocky. He was 37 and Rocky was 28. Joe was 66-2 going into that fight and was favored to win it. Those are the kind of exaggerations that people always say about that fight to take away the credit Rocky deserves for that win. By the way Joe also didn't lose a bunch of fights late in his career like Rogan said in this clip. Louis ended his career 66-3. Only Max Schmeling, Ezzerd Charles and Rocky beat him (one time each). All 3 were world champions themselves and nobody ever beat Louis twice! Marciano was his very last fight at age 37. HE DID NOT Fight well into his 40's as stated, he never fought past age 37. Marciano was the hardest puncher in the history of the sport. He fought everybody on the scene and beat everybody, you can't ask more than that from a man. He does not get the credit he really deserves in my opinion.
He was a tough guys tough guy! No mercy in-between The Bell! But a genuine great guy! Not a hateful bone in his body; but what a crashing right hand taking you to the promiseland
@@weswahlig5908 people today don't seem to believe how hard he hit because he wasn't physically big but his right was lethal. Joe Louis and Ali did say those things about how hard Rocky hit them, even though some people in these comments don't seem to believe it. But it's all true. Also, he was a freak of nature for his time, in terms of training. He trained for a 20 round fight like a bare knuckle fighter. He was the real deal.
Marciano fought nobody he only beat lightheavy weight fighters and they were old 37yr old Louis only real heavyweight..charles ,moore, WALLCOT all smaller an old!!
Uh, Marciano would jog 6-7 miles every morning including Christmas morning. After he signed for a fight, he increased it to 9-10 miles, and then the final week before the fight upped it to 12-15 miles a day. He was known to do 2 hours of calisthenics. No fucking boxer today runs anywhere close to that regiment of cardio. At best they can match his power, considering at 185 lbs, he was practicing on a 300lb heavy bag and had a steel chin. That's because it isn't a finesse sport anymore. It's a power sport now. People always say that Marciano was never given real fights. No. It's that he was so far ahead of the game with regard to training discipline that it's ridiculous.

You can’t really compare the 2, boxing techniques have improved so much since then that the best boxer couldn’t beat a below average one today. Maybe if you take rocky out of the era and hypothetically train him with today’s knowledge he may be better but if you put those 2 in the ring with what they both knew Joshua would knock him out first round.
Boxers of the past had monstrous stamina. Ali and Joe fighting at max for 14-15 rounds, Marciano fighting like a monster for 15 rounds and also having severe cuts, Sugar Ray Robinson fighting so much that he reached 100+ fights. The guys of the past were stamina monsters

Joe is wrong about the stamina, these guys would run circles around today's prizefighters. Some guys fought multiple times a month, today's fighters spend most their time training, yesterday's fighters spent most their time fighting. Not to mention they also fought a lot of 12-15 round fights. Marciano would have absolutely dominated light heavyweight-cruiserweight in today's era.

They would have smashed through them in a round. Its too bad we can't take all the greats from every era and have them go at it. A lot of people would be suprised.
@@andrhorvath7464 why couldn’t Marciano evolve along with the sport? It’s said that the only time he was knocked out he didn’t eat for 4 days before the fight. Imagine someone like that with access to todays training techniques and nutrition. Even if he kept his form exactly the same he’d be an above average fighter, give him some proper training and a meal plan I think he could compete for the championship.

If you brought Einstein or isaac Newton into today you could easily say they’re not as smart as modern scientists because they don’t even have a concept of what a black hole is. I feel like that’s putting artificial limits on the people of history without taking into account how Marcianos work ethic or their intelligence would be much further advanced with the tools and knowledge we have today. You could argue the Beatles wouldn’t be great musicians today because they don’t know the recording techniques artists use today. The biggest factor would’ve been his lack of competition. He never went against Liston, Ali or foreman and I think he that’s why we’ll never be able to really say for sure how he’d pan out in a more competitive era.

Rebecca Loughran My grandfather sent Joe Louis a little bit of money every couple of months when he was in his financial troubles. He was so loved by so many
@Fredrick Frederickson The sh*t Ali pulled on Sonny Liston & Joe Frazier was beyond cruel and unlike Liston & Frazier who grew up in severe poverty, and were beaten as kids for not working hard enough on their family farms where they were too poor to eat more than 1- 2 meals/day, Ali had a loving mother & father and he ate 3 meals/day. Ali was very smart & he handled himself like a Pro during his speeches at colleges on civil rights & his anti-vietnam stance, during his 3.5 exile from Boxing. Nobody could trash-talk and create poems on the fly like Ali. He handled himself like a Pro when he was being interviewed all over the world between 1967-1970. Frazier & Liston were simple men who had no chance against Ali in a put-down match/ trash-talk war of words. Neither one of them could read or write or speak about current affairs like Ali could. They might as well have had down syndrome & tried to challenge someone as lightening quick with his barbs/jokes/ words like Robin Williams or George Carlin. Ali knew what he was doing and he was out of line. Ali never needed to promote fights against Liston or Frazier. Those fights were sold out in a matter of 2-3 hours. The most anticipated fights of all-time were Liston vs Ali & Frazier vs Ali. That's just a lame excuse that Ali fan-boys use, because they're afraid to admit that Ali was a flawed man who did a lot of good but also hurt a lot of people on his way to the top. Frazier was very good to Ali during his exile. The NOI was nowhere to be seen when Ali was down & out and it was wrong of Ali to stab Joe in the back like he did. Ali had more excuses for losing to Frazier in their 1st fight than one of Whitey Bulger's debtors trying to explain why he didn't pay off his loan on time. Ali lacked the decency, honor, & humbleness to apologize to Frazier in person, while both fighters were still active in their Boxing Careers. Joe Louis retired 58-1 with 25 title defenses. When he came back it was outta necessity because he gave all his winnings to the war effort and the government wanted to tax him into the grave. He wasn't the same fighter.
Felip Nazario True...... Joe seems like a stand up guy and he usually accounts himself well but it’s evident he’s out of his wheelhouse when it comes to back-n-the day boxing...
Joe Louis was 75 years old when they fought. Joe Louis always lied about his age. One time I talked to Frank Sinatra, and I asked him "how old is Joe Louis" you know what Frank said? He said Joe Louis was 137 years old.
Joe Rogan is so full of shit. The fighters today do NOT have the stamina compared to the past. Marciano averaged 80 punches a round and often times had 100. The average heavyweight today does 40. Marciano could go 15 rounds, and the heavyweights today are damn near dead in later rounds.
yep! If there were unlimited rounds it would be pretty tough for guys to beat Marciano. They could win on points in 12 round fights, and obviously Marciano is mortal and can be KO'd but damn he'd be a tough guy to beat even today.
The reason they were lighter wasn't food, a great example Joe Louis fought Primo Canera who was 263lbs all muscle same reach as Tyson Fury. The fact was back then if the fight was 15 rounds you had to have stamina for 3 minute 15 rounds, whereas now you have to have stamina for 2 minute 6/8 rounds. For example modern boxers in their training camp run 3 - 6 miles 3 - 4 times a week. Joe Louis ran 8 miles 5 - 6 times a week, Rocky Marciano would work up to running 15 miles so over a half marathan every single day that is why he was 185lbs because with the conditioning he did, it is actually amazing the weight he was. Rocky was the best conditioned heavyweight of all time.
Joe Louis was the best to ever lace em up. He was always humble, did great things for his community and country, but he was taken advantage of his whole career. He donated his purses to his country while he served in the military in the prime of his career. After which he was screwed by everyone around him including the IRS(some of the finance troubles he brought on himself, possibly from following bad advice). He died broke surviving on the handouts of the many friends (Most notably Frank Sinatra) and fans he accumulated throughout his life. Probably the best role model to ever come out of that sport. #legend #brownbomber
Chris Manager An undefeated doesn’t make you the best. And even if that were the case there plenty of fighters who had longer streaks then Floyd. Sugar Ray Robinson only lost once in 136 bouts, and dominated two divisions. Julio Caesar Chavez went 89 -0 and dominated his division. Harry Grab, Gene Tunney the list goes on and on.
Rocky comes from a time that people nowadays wouldnt survive, a real tough hard working man who let nothing come across his path, he went through the depression, war times, everything, a time when 16 year olds were hopping on the battle field, men were MEN back then, were all boys nowadays

Watch the Brawl in Montreal if you wanna see stamina. 15 rounds and still punching as hard as they were in the first round, that shit just isn't possible anymore. Maybe that is why fighters wanted to be a bit less bulky. For someone so open minded Joe sure has the blinders on sometimes.
The less bulky to have more stamina thing doesn't really hold any water. Jack Johnson, Joe Louis and Sonny Liston were incredibly well built and muscular for boxers and they could still go 15 rounds. Jack Johnson especially, he was the most muscular and he went 20+ rounds back then. Muscles dont kill your stamina, at least not for natural athletes like those guys.
Marciano was a tank, and he probably was the strongest guy that ever fought at HW, even Ali, says this. Iron chin and a will that can't be measured with a punch that really hurt some people.... and come on man, Marciano would've KILLED Anthony Joshua... muscled fighters don't always equal the hardest punchers or the best endurance fighters... I mean Foreman phase one was a hulking horror, but George 2.0 was a friendly Buddha... but in both versions he could punch through a wall... whereas a guy like Frank Bruno looked like Hercules but was a pretty soft touch for the real monsters of that HW division.
@@ronniep9272 Maybe you don't know how knockouts work but a 100lbs kid can knock out a 300lbs beast if the kid can generate enough lateral force. You have to remember though , that during the war years (39-45) and a year or 2 after , most of the good heavyweights were either fighting in or got killed in the war. Joe Louis had special exemption being the champ and genuinely did defend his title at least 15 times against genuine no hopers. Plus the 2 Schmelling fights, the first on Max was already past his prime and still won , the second fight he was way past his prime but as usually American Journalists only focus on the 2nd one. Plus Louis also lost toe Farr and Walcott when awarded dodgy decisions and was losing to Billy Conn quite easily until Conn got careless. Louis himself said he would have had a nightmare with Marciano at any stage of his career
One thing that made Rocky such a great fighter was his reach, he never fought somebody with a shorter reach than him. This meant he always had the reach "disadvantage", which he actually turned into his greatest advantage, it meant that he could engage more of his body in his punches as he had too close the distance, once he was in there his shorter arms meant he could pummel them with full punches. While their longer arms meant they couldn't.
Wow I like how you said that. It's exactly right. Same game plan every fight. No deviation no room for mental error. Do not get tired and refuse to be pushed backwards.
The only way Marciano could fight someone with a shorter reach is he scheduled a bout with the Venus de Milo. But seriously that short reach "advantage" only works if you can endure taking the first shot in any exchange. Marciano could, but the rest of us would rather not.
If you watch the fight and listen to the commentary, you can hear the commentators observe that Joe didn't look like the Joe that they were accustomed to. Let's face it, Rocky beat an old man who was way past his prime. Rocky was a great fighter but I doubt he would've beat the likes of Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali or George Foreman. The left hook of Frazier would've done him in imo.

@@ragasthegascap1 Had he not retired in 1956, he'd have to face Sonny Liston, who would've undoubtedly given him his first loss. Rocky was great, but the best fighters he beat were past their prime and they still went the distance with him.

This is one of the most, if not THE most epic knockout of all time! The staggering of Louis, the camera angle, the announcer, the timing of Marciano's left-right, and of course Louis being sent cleanly through the ropes. Like Bobby Orr's 'flying goal', or the photo of Marilyn Monroe with her dress blowing in the wind. Absolutely legendary. And for all the jokes about Louis being 'way too old', you know Foreman came back at 38 and fought until 48 or so, winning another title in the process right? At 45 he defeated a 26 year old Moorer. 37 is not old, and Louis would theoretically be stronger and have a much higher boxing IQ than Marciano here. Joe's failure to adjust his style (and training) for this fight, his possible financial troubles, and Marciano just being a complete physical beast (the likes of which haven't been seen before in the sport) were what did him in. His conditioning and discipline was on another level, even by today's standards.
I think the most "epic" knockout was Marciano knocking out Jersey Joe with that right hand. There is even a pic of the actually punch showing Walcott's facial contortion. Hardest punch I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot.
John Smith boxers like people age differently Joe Louis was an old 37 reflexes completely gone he didn't resemble the "The Brown Bomber" who absolutely destroyed Schmeling in their rematch and the Louis who finally caught up to and Koed Billy Conn in the slightest ! The IRS initially determined Louis owed more than 100,000 in back taxes that was the only reason Joe came out of his first retirement to fight the then heavyweight champion Charles !!! By May of 1950 the IRS determined that Louis owed more than 500,000 Louis through out his comeback was fighting only because he owed the IRS and immense amount of money !!! Fighter like people age differently especially boxers in the 1950's and before compared to fighter in the 1990's also Michael Moorer wasn't even close to being an all time great heavyweight champion I have Marciano at number 3 on my personal all time heavyweight champions list behind only number 1 the Ali of the sixties and number 2 pre World War 2 Louis !!! Louis himself said that he was never the same fighter after spending 4 years stationed at Alabama in the Army during World War 2 he said this in his great biography "Brown Bomber" was fight with Rocky was more than 6 years after the end of World War 2 !!!
Hey Joe, as far as stamina goes, no one conditioned themselves more than Rocky Marciano in any era. Rocky Marciano loved to exercise. He trained using a custom made 300lb punching bag. He used a speed bag but not like you would expect, he would hit it with hooks and slow power shots to work on his accuracy. He would power clean a heavy stone and toss it forward with both hands. He did crunches that also combined kicking a heavy medicine ball out to the trainer. He liked to run uphill in training (full speed) and then run backwards back down. Did this over and over. He was known to do two hours of continuous calisthenics. Sometimes Rocky went shoulder deep in a swimming pool and threw hundreds of underwater punches for about 45 minutes. Jogged 6-7 miles every morning.( His uncle,Charlie Piccento, said he even did this on Christmas mornings as well.) Ben Bently, Rocky's press agent, said after signing for a fight he would increase to 9-10 miles. And then the last week before a fight he would increase 12-15 miles. And all this in hilly country! When training for a fight he was like a Monk - He secluded himself from wife and family sometimes up to 3 months before a fight, watched his diet, weight and muscle tone. A week before a fight he would see no mail, take no calls, meet no new acquaintances, not even shake hands (probably to avoid getting sick) or go for a car ride, and no new foods. Archie Moore - "...he just had more stamina than anyone else in those days. He was like a bull with gloves." Heavy weights today only need to go 12 rounds, Rocky could go 30 in his prime. If other fighters were in camp for two months, he would be in camp for four.
In support of what you stated about Rocky's stamina -- look at the fight with Jersey Joe Walcott when Rocky KO's Joe out in the 13th round. The ref signals Rocky to go to a neutral corner. What heavyweight fighter turns around in the 13th round after a KO of another man and RUNS to the neutral corner? I never saw that with any fighter. Ever. That means Rocky had that much energy left in the 13th round after dooking it out with a guy like Jersey Joe Walcott? That's impressive. Few people ever notice that little scene.
Marciano had WAY more cardio than any HW today. Go back an look how many punches he threw. In his last fight against Archie Moore, the last couple rounds he threw something like 120 punches per round. Joshua throws maybe 1/3 that. His work rate was insane. He just kept coming forward. Louis, Ali, Dempsey, Moore, all said he was the best. Don Turner said he hit harder than anyone else he was ever around. He was like Melvin Manhoef. Don Turner trained: Larry Holmes Evander Holyfield Wladimir Klitschko Vitali Klitschko Vasyl Lomachenko Aaron Pryor Michael Grant Mike McCallum Sergei Kovalev But he said ROCKY hit the hardest.

B.S he beat no great fighter IN THIER PRIME. He beat OLD former great fighters. Prime Ali, Tyson, Holyfield even Louis would have beaten him. He gets credits he doesnt deserve. Notice how he made sure HE RETIRED AT ONLY 32. Because he knows what would have happened had he fought on past 36. So learn this before you start talking about greatest EVER.
It wasnt a 1st round KO. Rocky did Knockout Joe but it was after Joe got really tired. I wanna say it was in the 3rd round. And just think, people outside of the Boxing community all thought Rocky Balboa was the Rocky people talked about when talking about boxing. At school i told one of my friend's that Rocky Marciano was the only champion to retire undefeated. He went home and asked his dad about it, his daddy said for me to go back and watch the first movie. Apollo Creed won that fight. Man i just put my head down and walked away.
If you are reading this Joe Louis was 37 when he lost to Rocky and it was Joe's last fight. He was the heavyweight champion for 12 years straight!!! He defended his title 25 times. Muhammad Ali was great. But imo Joe louis is the best heavyweight ever. Muhammad Ali is #2 and Jack Johnson and Rocky Marciano are tied for #3. Who are your top 3 heavy weight boxers??? Honorable mention George Foreman, what he did was incredible. Also can't forget about Joe Frasier and Mike Tyson. Shout out to Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield,Wladimir Klitschko and last but not least Tyson Fury..My top ten is in there some where. I guess Tyson Fury would be #11. Who are your favorite heavy weights? Remember I am just a boxing fan and this is just my opinion. I admit I am a little biased towards Joe Louis AKA The Brown Bomber bc he was my grandfather''s favorite boxer.R.I.P to my grandpa Joseph Luis and Joe Louis. Thats another reason he was gpa's favorite, they have very similar names. Also I am named after my grandpa😂 May the boxers that mentioned who have passed on R.I.P along with my gpa. I hope one day in the near future we get to see another golden age for the heavyweight division where you have 3 or 5 super talented boxers and a bunch of contenders who also box well. If you are reading this have a awesome day. Don't give up,whatever it is you dream about is right around the corner pass the next mile marker. You got this. Remember you have to C.T.D so one day you can L.T.D..Can you dig it?
Marciano ran 15 miles a day in combat boots. And that’s just his road work. He’s widely considered to have been the best-conditioned heavyweight. Look him up. And a brutal fighter, both in the punishment he dished out and the punishment he took.
"Archaic" as methods may have been back then, Rocky Marciano's by any standards, THE greatest conditioned heavyweight (probably just boxer) there's ever been. That's not even an argument.
Every punch Rocky threw was a knockout punch, even if he was hitting the opponents arms that would eventually cause the opponents arms to weaken and get sore and drop, which opens them up. HE would shuffle in leading with his right foot and then lean in with his body weight when he would throw making his punch more devastating, it also gave him the ability to rock back on his hind leg to lessen the impact of a punch he couldn't avoid. Even if the opponent landed a punch Rocky would already be fading backwards with his stance and that would lessen the blow. He was an amazing fighter in many ways he knew how to beat a man's body to open his head and then knock them out. He knew that any one of the punches he threw could land a knockout if it were thrown hard enough and he knew how to move his head out of the way so that he wouldn't get knocked out. Amazing still the only heavyweight champion to never be defeated in the entire world.
Primo carnera was world champion back then and was 6”5 and 260 lbs ( and on steroids etc ) and Louis absolutely decimated him like nothing . Louis would do the same to Joshua . Boxers were dragged up the hard way back then .
Rogan is a real dummy. I thought he was smart. He knows very little about martial arts jiujitsu or boxing. Marciano trained with weights. All power punches have to. Your power comes from weight training . Look as Mas Oyama training. Father of the most brutal Karate. Lifting weights is a must. Youll never develope real power WITHOUT IT! NEVER!!!
Pete Bart - Yes.....Rogan is not well versed in boxing and definitely boxing of past generations however your comment that punching power comes from lifting weights is absolutely false...Rocky Marciano nor any fighters from his era lifted weights....
After researching rocky for a week I officially know more about him than 99.99% of people who claim to know something about him, time to bring back the past with facts and stop the spread of misinformation
Rocky was a pioneer of fight preparation and training to correct. His power came from his hips as he stayed low, making him harder to hit as boxers don't usually punch down, this also was in combo of exploding up from the hips. That earned him the still only undefeated heavyweight champ of all time. Side note, Rocky was at current boxing retirement age when he turned pro. His training to defend against Liston didn't go well so he retired, his intelligence to retire is scrutinized but a fighter knows themselves more than an internet troll.
Marciano started boxing when most would be getting ready to retire. Even Ali said he wasn’t sure he could’ve beaten him. All things considered we can speculate, but he is one of the all-time greats.
@Aaron Mills Yes and keep in mind the current champ Jersey Joe at the time was stacking younger ones like cord wood and Joe handed him his ass Lol Rocky was amazing by any time and any standard. And Joe was no has been, check his stats anytime. Jersey Joe was also late 30s- 37 also I think.
@Aaron Mills A true story, Rockies father was shot through the mouth as a Marine during WW1, he spit out his broken teeth and never missed a beat and kept on fighting- Years later somebody asked him that, he said my son was not the only tough one in this family. A quiet good man but lots smaller than Rocky.
I asked Frank Sinatra. I said, "Frank, you hang out with Joe Lewis, just between me and you, how old is Joe Lewis?" You know what he told me? He said, "Hey, Joe Lewis is 137 years old." 137 years old!
KINGOSWALD exactly, where does this idiot find information that the hws of today have stamina like back in the day lol total crap, 90% of today's boxers can't go pass round 8 without risking a heart attack. Marciano and others went 20 rounds of brutal fighting with even shitier gloves with less protection. Comparing today's boxers stamina to the old guys is just stupid
instantly my first thought lmao. louis, dempsey, marciano, jack johnson, willard, etc would go like 20 rounds with ease. joshua and some of these dudes gas after 6. gotta respect mayweather, golovkin, lomachenko, and some of these guys though they could take it to 15 or 20
He was in his 40s at the time. Joe. Always trying to deminish Rocky's accomplishments. No. Joe. He was. 37. Joes a big ali fan. Yet never mentions. Ali in his 20s. Fought a 49. Year old Archie moore. , ali also. In his 20s fought a old Patterson twice. And old man liston twice, its weird how he never brings those up isn't it,
He also has watched tonnes of fucking fights, you can start to forget shit. He remembered that he stopped Max Schmeling in the first round of the rematch. Brendan Schaub on the other hand says he’s “balls deep in boxing” but constantly gets shit wrong.
Dustin if you were having a convo with a friend youd stop and fact check yourself? Come on now. Why would joe lie about being a boxing fan? Makes no sense. Not like he claims to be a historian or something
You must be outta your God-damned mind! Joe Louis the greatest boxer who ever lived. I'll be with you boys in a minute. He was badder than Cassius Clay, he was better than Sugar Ray, he was badder than - who's that new boy? Mike Tyson! Look like a bull dog! He was badder than him too! He'd whip Mike Tyson's ass, he'd whip all their asses!
Joe Louis retired 58-1 with 25 title defenses. When he came back it was outta necessity because he gave all his winnings to the war effort and the government wanted to tax him into the grave. He wasn't the same fighter.
I think Joe Louis was a pallbearer at the rocks funeral but I could be wrong
Thomas Lennon and you actually believed that?
Thomas Lennon it was 38 actually but 37 close enough
37 is like 50 in those days
Not-so-fun fact: When Rocky died after his private plane crashed, at the funeral Joe Louis walked up to his casket, kissed it and weeped. It shows the amount of love and respect they had for one another, even in death.
My dad still cried when he talked about Rocky getting killed my dad was friends with Rocky’s brother. A lot of guys never see their dad’s cry to give an idea of how much he love the rock
Truth....
He was crying cause he was thinking about how the IRS kept bending him over and going to town without lube.
Also when Joe Louis died, Max Schmeling who he destroyed in that rematch paid for Joe's funeral.
Larry Bird cried too when he heard about Magic having HIV. Back then it was a death sentence.
Marciano wrote Joe a letter after the fight saying how much of a hero he was to him. Both are legends of Boxing 🥊
lol I thought you meant Joe Rogan
Both men had dignity and humility. Rare these days.

Marciano was 185 lbs, Louis 215. 5'10 to 6'2. Not to mention Marciano had the shortest reach for a HW champion. Rocky had insane power and heart that was unmatched during his time.
Very true statements about my fathers brother
Isent it physics tho? Short arms = more torque given same power?
Louis was way used up and tired to use those advantages. Joe was almost 38. It' the equilivent of Marciano staying around for Ali or Liston in earl y 1960's and someone bragging how Liston or Ali destroyed 38 year Marciano.
His power is overrated. near 60 loss ex middle journeyman Ted "The Tiger "Lowry went 20 rounds total with the Rock. Ted 5'10 175 vs 5'11 186 Marciano. Rock couldn't put dent in Lowry . "Oh yeah, Joshua has as much stamina as Marciano."
Joshua get gassed a few rounds into every fight, has to take rounds off, long breathers during rounds, etc.
Rock would throw punches the entire time, but not just punches. Knockout haymaker combinations the entire time excluding the occasional jab
yeah IDK why Joe would say that but he does freely admit to being clueless at times and is happy to be corrected.

Uh, Marciano would jog 6-7 miles every morning including Christmas morning. After he signed for a fight, he increased it to 9-10 miles, and then the final week before the fight upped it to 12-15 miles a day. He was known to do 2 hours of calisthenics. Rogan is clearly ignorant on the subject. Marciano ran 5-10 miles every single day of his career.
Troll Marciano trained. Eight months a year. No one trained as hard . He had a 300 lb heavy bag he would pulverize him
The reason they were lighter wasn't food, a great example Joe Louis fought Primo Canera who was 263lbs all muscle same reach as Tyson Fury.
Tyson Fury is 280lbs. But if you take away the fat and shit he carries around then 195lbs is just about right.
Louis lost the first fight with Wallcott. The decision was so bad even Louis refused to acknowledge the win.
“The Rock” was a beast
Joe Louis was the best to ever lace em up. He was always humble, did great things for his community and country, but he was taken advantage of his whole career. He donated his purses to his country while he served in the military in the prime of his career. After which he was screwed by everyone around him including the IRS(some of the finance troubles he brought on himself, possibly from following bad advice). He died broke surviving on the handouts of the many friends (Most notably Frank Sinatra) and fans he accumulated throughout his life. Probably the best role model to ever come out of that sport. #legend #brownbomber

I think someones undefeated record would disagree with that first statement.
+Chris Manager That someone is actually 49-1 as he lost to Castillo. And never once did he fight an all-time great like Rocky was, in their prime.
I think that on the whole you're right, but there are still a lot of bad asses on the combat field. My late cousin Kyle Milliken was one of them.

That's an awesome fight for sure.
Or RAY LEONARD VS TOMMY HEARNS 1
Look there's no way a 185lb fighter is knocking out today's giants. Usyk had to bulk up to 220lbs to beat Joshua.
@@ronniep9272 Maybe you don't know how knockouts work but a 100lbs kid can knock out a 300lbs beast if the kid can generate enough lateral force. Well it should have been given he wasn't too active and was always smaller

Don Turner trained:
Larry Holmes
Evander Holyfield
Wladimir Klitschko
Vitali Klitschko
Vasyl Lomachenko
Aaron Pryor
Michael Grant
Mike McCallum
Sergei Kovalev

Marciano ran 15 miles a day in combat boots. And that’s just his road work. He’s widely considered to have been the best-conditioned heavyweight. Look him up. And a brutal fighter, both in the punishment he dished out and the punishment he took.
"Archaic" as methods may have been back then, Rocky Marciano's by any standards, THE greatest conditioned heavyweight (probably just boxer) there's ever been. That's not even an argument.
Joe Louis was born in May of 14, this fight was in october of 51. Louis was 37 years old. Marciano was 28.

His training to defend against Liston didn't go well so he retired, his intelligence to retire is scrutinized but a fighter knows themselves more than an internet troll.

instantly my first thought lmao. louis, dempsey, marciano, jack johnson, willard, etc would go like 20 rounds with ease. joshua and some of these dudes gas after 6. gotta respect mayweather, golovkin, lomachenko, and some of these guys though they could take it to 15 or 20
Most of these guys taking roids have no stamina...fact ! Holyfield and Tyson were exceptions but both would have lost to The Rock !

Mike Tyson didn't take roids.
Max Baer Fought Joe Louis with a Broken Right Hand
He was in his 40s at the time. Joe. Always trying to deminish Rocky's accomplishments. No. Joe. He was. 37.
Joes a big ali fan. Yet never mentions. Ali in his 20s. Fought a 49. Year old Archie moore. , ali also. In his 20s fought a old Patterson twice. And old man liston twice, its weird how he never brings those up isn't it,
It's crazy Joe spews all this nonsense about boxing and he is supposedly a fan.
For one he said Joe Lewis lost a bunch as he got older.
He also has watched tonnes of fucking fights, you can start to forget shit. He remembered that he stopped Max Schmeling in the first round of the rematch. Brendan Schaub on the other hand says he’s “balls deep in boxing” but constantly gets shit wrong.
Well I also watch tons of fights but before I would say a guy lost tons of fights when he was older I would double check if I wasn't positive.
Dustin no one gives a fuck what u think. Go play on the highway.
Dustin if you were having a convo with a friend youd stop and fact check yourself? Come on now. Why would joe lie about being a boxing fan? Makes no sense. Not like he claims to be a historian or something
Joe should invite lou dibella, that boxing promoter he agrue's with during a live new interview whether boxing is greater than MMA.
Légende that video was classic
You must be outta your God-damned mind! Joe Louis the greatest boxer who ever lived. I'll be with you boys in a minute. He was badder than Cassius Clay, he was better than Sugar Ray, he was badder than - who's that new boy? Mike Tyson! Look like a bull dog! He was badder than him too! He'd whip Mike Tyson's ass, he'd whip all their asses!
Lol classic movie
StiX I and then you woke up and had your coffee
Joe Louis retired 58-1 with 25 title defenses. When he came back it was outta necessity because he gave all his winnings to the war effort and the government wanted to tax him into the grave. He wasn't the same fighter.
"Coming to America" reference?
I'd say Sugar Ray Robinson
Lol rocky was way more conditioning than aj all of the old schoolers were that's why they could go 15 at full pace and they gas
