- Tommy "The Duke" Morrison. A knockout puncher who took the Sports / Boxing world by storm for an all too brief moment in history. A joy to watch, as he devastated one opponent after the next with that tremendous left hook of his. From starring in Rocky 5, to holding the heavyweight title two times...This original documentary examines the rise, and then the very tragic fall of the Duke.

Some of those poor bastards in Tommy's highlight reel look like they were there to get KO'd, just judging by their appearance and reaction to his shots. They looked like they didn't belong in there. This aspect of boxing truly gives me a dark feeling, how some guys are absolutely pumbled just being used as a stepping stone to build somebody's undefeated record. Boxing doesn't allow defeats on a record like mma does.

What happened in Tommy's life is everything Gods word teaches. will happen when you lose sight of the prize. when you take your eyes off of Jesus Christ. when you do your own sinfuln thing. your own strength to can't do it in your strength, you got to lean not on your own understanding but acknowledge God in all your ways and He will direct your steps.

This documentary was as advertised the best one I've saw of the Duke.
He stood toe-to-toe with George, and won...Let that sink in. He EARNED his place as one of the greatest to ever throw hands.
The Duke had a killer left hook, I'll never forget the Razor Ruddock fight, one of my earliest memories of getting into boxing. The 1990s heavyweight scene was phenomenal, also amazes me still how many people over the years have said "Dude isn't that the guy from Rocky 5?"🤣
Growing up in the 1990s, my dad was a huge boxing fan. Loved Marvin Haggler. Loved the Duke. When most kids were watching cartoons, I was watching old tapes of haggler and duke put people to sleeeeeep.
R.i.p to two of the greatest.
Likewise man, Marvelous Marvin is the greatest middleweight of them all in my opinion, the Daddy of 160 lbs. All in all the 4 Kings were special in the 80s, we'll never see that type of boxing again, world's gone too soft and boxing has followed suit sadly.

I fought his older brother I believe it was in a Pitcher, Oklahoma tournament. His dad was dressed completely in black. Their family, bless them all, kinda had a rough reputation but boy could they fight. Good job on this one Sir. You did right by him. He was a good kid.
i subbed you. would love to hear more
I grew up in Grove, OK 12 miles from Jay the Deleware County seat and they were our rivals. The tournament was in the now defunct to town of Pitcher, OK where we used to ride our dirt bikes in the chat piles. I remember winning my fight the first night. My older brother got his clock cleaned after making an ass out of himself during the introduction of the fighters. When they announced his name he turned to each side of the ring doing hi best Sugar Ray Leonard impersonation. Shortly thereafter he was counting sheep haha, and I was making fun of him that night as my mom and dad try to console him. Anyway the next night I knew I had to fight one of the mean Morrison boys. We had all heard of them as their reputation for fighters traveled the boxing circles. I remember seeing the family walk in and my heart sank. They did look mean and tough. The Dad was a big man wearing all black clothes I remember little Tommy blonde hair and all. It's been so long since that time but I still remember during introductions his brother took off his robe and I knew it was going to be a tough fight because I had never seen anyone I fought wear one. He stopped me in the second round scheduled for 3 2 min rounds. My brother being out of the tournament could only gloat seeing I had lost to the Morrison boy and he cracked my rib. So, years later I was married watching boxing on TV and there was little Tommy Morrison. I couldn't believe it. He had turned Pro ! I followed his career until his death. God rest his soul.

Tommy’s left hook was among the best of all time no doubt
I don't know what was more impressive, Mercer somehow taking that upper cut, left hook combo. Or Ruddock getting up from that flush, well-timed left hook.
@@robmichael8136 He actually mostly hit Mercer with the left uppercut right hook combo, rather than the left hook. He did hit him with some nasty left hooks to the body though. Mercer was always tough as nails though. He said nobody hit him harder, and the body punches made him fart.
All the common opponents Morrison had with Tyson have all said Morrison was a far harder puncher (Lewis, Tillis, Thomas, Williams, Ruddock). You could tell Lennox was terrified of getting hit with the left hook, the way his right glove was glued to his face.
Some other opponents also said that Morrison hit them harder than Foreman did. If only he worked harder in the gym and didn't gas out when it mattered the most...

One of the best documentaries I've ever seen. I cried. Thank you.
I spent a day with Tommy Morrison, just a two months before he died. I was filming an interview, and the subject of the interview asked me to please hire Mr. Morrison to do "whatever" on set: hold the boom mike, get coffee, just basically be there and get paid. It was a philanthropic gesture, and I was happy to accommodate. Poor ole Tommy looked terrible; sickly, sallow, thin, frail, and sweaty. This man who I had idolized in my youth was now a shell of himself. Tommy barely talked all day, was too weak to hold the boom mike for more than a couple of minutes, and to be honest was surly, withdrawn and unappreciative. What a shame that this legendary, strong tough man would end his life in such a sad state. I mean no disrespect to Mr. Morrison, nor his friends and family- but this weird coincidence of hiring Tommy Morrison for a day happened to me, so thought I would share the story.

So for every 10 professional athletes, which is ALL atheletes not just boxing - Track and Field, Swimming, Tennis, Ten Pin bowling, weight lifting etc, you reckon that nine of them fall into drugs and sex, get life ending diseases and die early. You are an iddee-ot

Hahaha I thought the same thing 😅
😂😂😂😂
🍑🍑🍑🍑🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺.
Tommy lived the fast life a little too quickly.
Another good one, JV! And yet another sad ending to an incredible athletes’s life. The last 12 years of his life could be a two hour documentary of its own.
Rest In Peace , Champ !!!!!!
The World Will Always Remember You !
This was the most depressing one you've made yet. Still enjoyed the entire video. Your an incredible man, Joseph. Tommy was a legend
I fought on the same card as him as pre main event in an MMA match several years ago. We were in the same casino hotel and had the same transport to and from the match and we spoke a number of times prior to weigh ins. He was the nicest guy, he really was. Didn't act stuck up or anything. At the time Showtime had cameras there and were doing a doc about him.
Great to hear tim I suffer with with this condition aswell and I didn’t handle it well fell into heroin addiction and all the rest and I’m still picking the peices up now trying to get clean, 🙏
@@jaikai4989 what condition? You mean HIV?💀
@@bigpapi6688 yeah I have hiv
This man was unstoppable at one point! Glad you gave him his recognition!
Very good documentary, I felt like I was watching a movie. I remember back in the mid-90's watching Rocky 5 with my dad. That was when I became a fan of "Tommy Gunn" aka Tommy "The Duke" Morrison. He had the best left hook in boxing, rip champ.
Thanks for watching!
The Mike Tyson perfect timing and Snake death cry are the reasons why I just subscribed. Great content, I am so thankful!
It always amazes me how such naturally talented people come to a bad end. Loved watching him fight. Him and Razor Ruddock is a classic
It's called " Bad choices" , we all make em but it's whether we choose to learn from them or not that decides our future.
Getting a HIV diagnosis at such a young age would have messed him up but he could have gone on to live a very long healthy life in today's world.
Shame ......
Yes! Tommy 'Gun' Morrison. He made a lot of mistakes but shouldn't take away his career. Plus he was in Rocky V! 🏆
Could not believe he was in line to fight Tyson at one time. That would've been a great fight. R.I.P. Duke. Thanks for this Joe
Would have been the war part 2. Zero chance it went past 3 rounds.
@@JoeVincentPresents Absolutely Joe. Toe to toe, hooks and uppercuts flying. Would've been an absolute WAR.
@@JoeVincentPresents Awesome Job Joe;
Tommy and Tyson ! That would of been one for the books !
Tommy was a straight up killa but against Tyson he would have been embarrassed
Said it once and I'll say it again, these are the best sports documentaries I've ever seen
Poor guy man, that sucks. My dad died of that b.s. in 94 42yrs old,it's a bad situation to be in especially when testing positive for that, almost 10 outta 10 there's no coming outta of it if having that disease, all I'm saying is people gotta be careful 🙏 🙏 R.I.P. to tommy and all the people to fall victim to that!!
Tommy was an extraordinary talent. So sad that he died so young…the temptations of partying got the better of him…he had a good time but cut his life short. Rip
That's why it's called "fast life".....
Do a Ray Mercer video. He has an interesting path.
Please?
He was a bad boy...
Dude ate hard shots like candy
@Antonito Bianchi shut up and troll elsewhere please
I dont think Mercer is a big enough name for joe vincent to do a video on.
Thanks for this video. I never knew “Tommy Gunn” was this good. Man, that left hook was insane.
The later years of his life he was completely a different person. Tragic ending, yet powerful and accomplished world legion in boxing. Strong left punch, wowza! He was handsome and curious to know more about his wife’s and children, and what they are doing today. Great video, thank you.
At least he had enough dignity to admit he screwed up and that young people should see him as a cautionary tale. It's a shame he didn't get the help he needed after he spiraled out of control.
Lol what help could he get? The man had HIV. He was done.
He was committed to staying healthy when he first found out he had HIV, but somewhere along the way, he was separated from his family and, eventually, from his sanity. He began to believe that was not really stricken with HIV and hooked up with a woman who not only fostered his delusions, but ignored the fact that he was slowly dying from it. I think if Tommy had stuck with his family and stayed on his meds and maintained his new role as a commentator, he’d probably still be around today. He was given a second chance at life after boxing and he just threw it all away.
@@YM-ow1jx You have......"Much to learn..."- yoda....
That knockout at 24:24 was so sweet. It was the culmination of all the hard work he put in to claw his way back to the top. Not to mention in his adopted home. What a special life moment
Let me just say I wasn’t into boxing at all I was all ufc until I started watching your documentaries keep doing what your doing man you keep it interesting for all people to watch
One of the best videos out there bro, thanks for letting us know who tommy Morrison was !
This guy is an underrated beast! All he had to do was stop clapping cheeks, getting high and focus on improving his skills. He would have made it another 10 years...at least. May he and his golden mullet rest in peace.
what does clapping cheeks mean ?

One of the saddest stories I ever heard. I remember him when I was in 6th grade tearing up the boxing world.
Sad what happened to him. He looked unrecognizable when he passed
He got hiv and was on the road to recovery but then decided to give it up and just start drinking again so basically he hiv came back and on top of that he was non stop drinking
yea he was a pipe hitter real bad, could not recognize him towards the end. Say no to drugs kids!
@@hazza6723 Just have to correct you a little about HIV here. There's no recovery from it, but with modern medicine you can to a large extent prevent it from progressing to late stage hiv which is known as aids. Drinking also doesn't directly affect HIV, but I understand what you're saying. The drinking definitely doesn't help your immune system or how you look.. Tommy Morrison took medicine religiously in the beginning, but stopped taking it in the 00s and that's the problem. He lived without medicine for the last 10 years+ of his life claiming he never had HIV in the first place and that it was a setup. His HIV had reached aids from around 2010 ish where you could see opportunistic infections on his skin. As could be seen during his last interviews like the Fight Night champion interview in early 2011 etc.. Tommy Morrison reportedly tested positive for HIV as early as 1988, but managed to hide it until 1996 where he was forced to retire after a positive test. I wonder if it affected his boxing career. Generally you don't see many symptoms early on, but they say that within 5 years you will see the first signs of hiv. It's sad to see that he stopped taking the medicine and being in total denial. Died way too young and it could have been prevented. And I find it disgusting how he hid it from 88 to 96 and how he later gave fake blood tests to "prove" he was hiv negative to launch a boxing comeback. He even had a couple boxing matches in the late 00s. He could have infected his opponents due to boxing being a sport with open cuts etc. and he clearly was a very selfish man without much or any empathy.
This is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. Thank you for this.
We should all learn from him, his life is tragic, he made all the mistakes and nobody seemed to be really here for him. Makes me think of Tyson in this aspect.
Be careful guys !

In between clapping cheeks smashing beers Joe V. Too funny
HIV showed up during the 80s here in USA. It was pandemic by 1995 which became leading cause of death between ages 20 and 40. Nobody thought twice about having unprotected sex, blood transfusions during surgery or using someone else's needle back then.
Dude comments about something funny and you turn it dark... Yes we knows aids is terrible.
@@studentofsweetscience6922 it's common knowledge Robin givens and Don King manipulated Tyson and he didn't lay a finger on her.. but yea.. u gonna be a buzz kill atleast be accurate with it.. 🙄
