When I was in junior high and high school I did golden gloves. I worked out at a gym called "Bell recreation center" in Kansas City, Kansas this would have been when Tommy had about 3-4 pro fights under his belt. Tommy was the only pro fighter that worked out there, and him being from Jay, Oklahoma where my grandfather grew up we kind of hit it off, I was like 14-15 y.o. he helped me develop my left hook (I'm a southpaw) he was just a regular guy, that happened to be able to knock a guy's head clean off their body. Here is a bit of trivia you might not know. At 13 Tommy was competing, at the adult level, in tough man competitions and beating grown ass men. My personal feelings are that he had the absolute best left hook in the heavyweight division period full stop. It is just sad and tragic that he let the partying lifestyle kill his dreams.
I think doing what he did to grown men in those competitions at 13 is almost more impressive than anything in boxing, thats such an uneven matchup and he was still winning
It's a tragic story, but at the same time he hid his disease and went on to compete against people who had no idea of the risk they were taking. Luckily no one he faced contracted the virus, but that's still inexcusable.
Since then, alot of fight promotions are required by the state to blood test the fighters. I think even WWE has to make their wrestlers take an HIV and Hepatitis blood test.
Wow. This really saddens me. I was just talking about Tommy Morrison the other day and was wondering about what he was up to nowadays. Had no idea that he lost that badly and fell off the deep end. I agree Chris, joe is so popular yet no one complains about this. That particular (or more aptly peculiar) characteristic is indeed torture. When I’m not in the mood to be annoyed (because it does) I can’t watch and just turn it off. Why doesn’t someone get in his ear about it- I guess cos not enough people tell him or feel this way. But well said!
@iamthebroker The reason they avoid putting the video in the screen or audio, is because RUclips constantly took their videos down because of copyright.
RobertBaratheon305 fair call and didn’t think about that. Perhaps others that do do it have cleared the copyright issue and those that haven’t at least don’t watch it in front of us and react as they do- I think that’s the naturally annoying thing. I’d prefer they just reference it without watching it.... but thanks for the explanation.
@iamthebroker I agree it’s very annoying. This channel is so big that they can’t get away with any infringements. Rogan talks about it on the podcast all the time.
FRANKIE FRANK but theirs a big difference Tyson had the potential to become the greatest boxer of all time Tommy at best could’ve become a good heavyweight champion for 3 years
@@hornydolphin7953 your kidding right? Tommy had as much potential as Tyson. He was a party animal and relied soley on his natural boxing ability to bail him out his entire career. Had he been disciplined he would've been a HOF heavyweight period.
@phillip martin Tyson and Morrison are more similar than you think. Both burned out due to their lives out of the ring. Morrison partied hard and did steroids on top of that. His body was taking on a tough workload.
@phillip martin I guess when you're jacked and knocking guys out left and right you feel like God and untouchable. I think the Mercer KO fucked up Morrison's head badly and caused him to go off the deep end like he did with muscle implants, meth addiction, and all that shit. There's a documentary on RUclips where he was trying to make a comeback in 2007. He was mentally fucked in the head, literally.

A lot of people overlook it, but Tommy fought a really smart bout against Foreman and actually looked like a solid boxer. Just one more lessen, in this sport, of what could have been. The history of boxing is littered with such lessons.
@@TheGrimmCommoner Yeah at the time, but after Tommy signed with Don King it became much more life imitating art. Tommy was in real life almost a dead ringer for Tommy Gunn, although I will say I never carried Tommy Morrison out of a bar for drinking milk,.

The local bar owners would call them and say Come down here and get your boy off the floor before the local news shows up. Wild
Tommy Morrison was the second biggest waste of raw talent and potential in heavyweight boxing. He had top tier fundamental skills, great flexibility, fluidity, balance, timing and coordination. he had other worldly knockout power in both hands, and his left hook was probably the greatest of all time. He knew how to throw that damn left hook, both long range and short range. A superb offensive fighters(one of the greatest in terms of offensive capability). What he did not have were the three D's- discipline, direction and dedication to his craft. Tommy loved to party, and he partied all the time. He never focused after a point, on boxing. He partied literally all day, all year, and it not only stunted and eventually stopped his career, but it also killed him. Its just such a sad story. He could have been so great!
@Iceman 23 Riddick Bowe. He could have been the greastest of all time. He had everything- size, reach, height, strength, cardio, chin, the ability to box from the outside and was such a great inside fighter for a man of his size. But he was focussed only for the Holyfield fight, he just wasted his time and overate apart from that and did not focus. Its sad really, he really had all the tools and the ability to be an all time great(he kinda still is but you get my point). The Bowe who fought Holyfield in the first fight could have beaten any heavyweight to ever live imho.

How come boxing transmits HIV to others?
@@AlfonsGunawan when u break the skin, blood comes out. blood on blood is how hiv is transferred

Wow. This really saddens me. I was just talking about Tommy Morrison the other day and was wondering about what he was up to nowadays. Had no idea that he lost that badly and fell off the deep end. Wasn't a big fan of Rocky V but Tommy did do a good job playing the bad guy in the end. Really sad to hear how his life ended :(

@iamthebroker
The reason they avoid putting the video in the screen or audio, is because RUclips constantly took their videos down because of copyright.
RobertBaratheon305 fair call and didn’t think about that. Perhaps others that do do it have cleared the copyright issue and those that haven’t at least don’t watch it in front of us and react as they do- I think that’s the naturally annoying thing.
