    I feel like I've seen you and your family go through the process to prep for silage so many times, that I could probably come out there and either do it myself or at the very least, be a considerable amount of help. 😂 You're educating a lot people, Eric! It's awesome!
    Edit: To be honest, while I didn't live on a farm myself, I was an extremely active FFA member in an agriculturally heavy area. I worked a lot of summers driving tractors, cutting fields, baling, and more. I do LOVE the smell of silage for some reason though.

      and it is important we pay attention becouse it is useful to know how we get our milk and how much effort our lovely farmers do to keep us fed

      @@michaelmckay that's the easiest part of the farming i think driving the tractors beside the combine is a little harder and putting the corn silage into the pit but atleast we know they know how todo their job good enough they're great at it

    Cool. I liked the in-depth explanations about why you do it a certain way preventing composting, etc… neat system and seems necessary to have the extra help. Your work ethic always impresses me.

    Makes my day when I log on and see it is Corn Silage Harvest time! Glad to hear the hurricane didn't damage too much. Sadly, most of the farms around here suffered from the drought this year. Should make for an interesting fall/winter. Stay safe, and happy farming!

    You took the words right out of my mouth! When I close my eyes and visualize that old silo, that distinctly wonderful smell of silage sweeps over me! One of my favorite memories! Again, love the drone footage!

    One of the cleanest and most efficient dairy’s around!! They are all about the well being of their animals. It’s a fact, happy cows give more milk and good silage makes really happy cows!

    One of my favorite smells in the entire world. Brings back memories of riding with my grandpa pulling a 2 row silage cutter behind his 4430.

    That "smell" used to be my favorite thing about cutting silage. That and fall apples! Those harvesters make the 2 row unit I used look small!

    When I was a kid, our silage pits were cut in to the sides of a hill. We had 2, next to each other. I drove the load in, unloaded, and left while a guy packed, spread, and another watered. I always remember that sweet silage smell during the winter!!

    You are lucky your sisters help with putting plastic on pile. I guess my dad was a little old school. Even if they didn't help with tires would have been great to help hold the plastic down through the wind gusts.

    Glad to see the fields drained well enough to get equipment in there, I’m 25 miles south of you and we got 3.4” of rain and you got 7”, funny how nature works.

    The vibratory sheepfoot drum roller is one of the best pieces of equipment for compaction of soil in construction. It isn't surprising it works great on silage.

    Could be a good investment to buy or lease a diesel generator trailer with telescopic high-tower flood light arrangement, Eric. An used service truck outfitted with same equipment. Also good to have as big reserve power generator.

      I'd put in some yard lights on utility poles. 3 or 4 dusk to dawn led lights next to the bunks and they'd be in business. It would make feeding easier during dark hours too.

    Great video! Chopping is always my favorite time on our farm. I enjoy the fact that it's so fast paced and how coordinated the team has to be. Everybody has a specific job and they all do it well. You are dog tired at the end of the day but you ALWAYS have one or two funny stories at someone's ( usually the rookie) expense.

    I enjoy watching dairy farming videos because I can relate to every aspect of it. I’ve done pretty much everything that dairy farmers do today, except I was born into dairy farming 61+ years ago. Everything about dairy farming and farming in general has improved so much since I was a boy, especially the equipment.

It might sound boring or weird that people would watch you work on the farm, but you must know most of the world now is far removed from where our food comes from that information they may get out of context they can be deceived to believe something that isn’t true about food production and farming. You are helping educate, anyone willing to watch, those who have no understanding of how we get our milk, cheese, yogurt, and many other products we buy and enjoy.

    Eric, I've got to say it's a toss up between fresh corn sileage and fresh hay. Please let me know when you can start selling those in a scented candle. I'll take two! LOL. Any way, the yield looks really good. Thanks for sharing as it is great to watch!

    I like to bring the cart all the way to the back of the bunk and drive while empty the load I find that help with compacting
    On farm simulator that is hahaha

      Forgot to ask, do you not spray urea on corn silage? Yes people the same as blue juice, def, exhaust fluid etc. The ruminant can use the urea and acids in the corn silage to make protein.

    I just ran across your videos about 30 minutes ago and I've already subscribed. First videos I watched were the manure robots. It has got to be extremely expensive to run a farm like this. Lots of work and lots more money. Us City dwellers don't realize how much work it takes for us to be able to open the fridge and have milk. Thanks.
