  • Join me as I walk about the Arizona desert late at night with a UV flashlight in search of the dreaded and feared bark scorpion. These are venomous and can kill you. Watch then catch and kill some prey and see them scoot about like glowing orb's of death. The UV flashlight I am using is this one (iLumen8) on Amazon: amzn.to/2qc6EWr
    It's a killer UV flashlight and I highly recommend it.

    Another great film - the scorpions are beautiful, (moreso under the UV light) and it was really interesting seeing the kill on the moth.
    I can sense an affinity between you and the scorpions - both love caves.

    We do this in our neighborhood and go spider hunting. It is pretty fun to make them glow.... but it's all fun and games until those assholes come inside the house! I hope you came across a mama with all her babies on top *shudder*. I also hate finding dead ones in the garage. Anyway just FYI bark scorpions ability to kill is a bit exaggerated, it hurts but rarely actually kills. Btw never leave wet towels on the ground in AZ.... know a guy who got stung right in the pecker. You got some amazing footage!! Thanks for sharing! Ps the bigger ones are less toxic ;)

    The cool thing about scorpions, is different species of them glow differently. Emperor scorpions (the kind that people usually keep as pets) glow almost a turquoise color. I have had two as pets before. I'm not sure if you know this, but the bigger the claws, the less poisonous they are. The smaller the claws, the more poisonous.

  • @freiermann7
    @freiermann7 7 лет назад +1

    We have those in Texas too. Its our nightly ritual in the summertime to go around house at night with the blacklight and kill scorpions. I've been stung and good lawd does it hurt. Far worse than a bee or wasp sting. Weird timing for this video because I just had 3 new big ass UV flashlights delivered to me from Amazon literally today for this very purpose! Pro tip: spray around your house with cypermethrin to help keep these things out. Works great

    Lots of common minerals fluoresce under uv light. The red glowing rocks are probably calcite. Good mineral specimens can be found around old mines in the desert SW. Willemite and wolfenite are a couple to look for. Sometimes metal impurities in crystals produce great specimens.

    At Tilbury Docks just outside London there have been Scorpions recorded living there since the 60's. They came over on cargo ships and have set up home there. They are very small and can be seen at night with the same type of UV light. Not many people know where they are so as to keep them protected. You should set up a moth trap light in the desert.

    A load of us were camping in the middle east by the coast as we were a Scuba Diving Expedition! We had a roaring camp fire and were enjoying a few wet ones! A couple of us were watching a rather large Scorpion darting in and out of our circle! Then the Scorpion who had been moving at random suddenly turned towards (t'ords if you're American ha ha) the fire and ran as fast as it could straight into our raging Camp Fire and BBQd itself! I'd never seen a suicidal Scorpion before! Anyone else out there come across crazy insect!

    Living in Las Vegas you see scorpies alot during the summer. My buddy says the little ones are more dangerous because of all the poison they have in the stinger, whereas the bigger ones aren't as bad when stung cause they don't produce more venom. Found a few in my apartment, actually stepped on a small one in the middle of the night.

    I've been stung numerous times in Wyoming. Our scorpions are little green guys. The feeling feels like a bee sting at first and then after a few minutes you feel this warm numbness going up your arm. The feeling is gone to that extremity, kind of like when your arm "falls asleep". I had no ill effects other that that.
