You know you’ve achieved something when your name alone evokes a very certain approach to music.

The sound of Bill in those SG years was so evocative, bitter and sweet. Fantastic.

I love how he interprets a melody and takes it into a Frisell mood: always beautiful and strange, in the best sense.

There was a famous TV Talk-show, here in Brazil, which the resident Jazz instrumental band's guitarrist (called Rubinho) used to play a SG.

Henry Cameron : I never had a special liking for Bill Frisell. Now, last month I sat down to read the text in Moreno's
Cd "Third wish" as I recently feel an interest for a bit of atonal playing. He mentions Frisell on page 3, sixth line from the top. In all respect for famous names, I first laughed, as the guitar sound in the videos of mr. Frisell around RUclips remind me of instrumental bands of the 60's ( reverb, chorus...). Listening this exact video, brought to mind Moreno's "Another way," tune #6 on Third wish ( call me crazy). Perhaps it is the chorus that Moreno uses so beautifully for jazz ( of course I don't compare technique here !). Anyhow, I was happy for your comment ; FYI, I also have Moreno's "3 For 3," which is also great.

I do not think Bill Frisell ever used a chorus, at least I cannot recall a recorded tune or a live concert where he used one.

Virtuoso! The way he alternates finger and picks as well as bass and treble lines so effortlessly. Bravo. Does he remind anyone else of Eric Johnson? They are both in the stratosphere for me, just curious if anyone else sees that... 🎸🎶😎

Claas Krause: jazz can be played on any kind of guitar. There are players who use strats, teles, and other types of non traditional instruments other than the iconic hollow or semi hollow archtop most commonly associated with jazz.

Yeah, and also that’s an SG Junior, which means he’s using the bridge pickup (there’s only a bridge pup in a SG Junior). Nowadays he uses the neck pup of whatever guitar he’s playing, but back then he was a bridge pup man, also with the Klein he used for a while after the SG period. I only know of two jazz guitarists that played with the bridge pickup: Allan Holdsworth and Bill Frisell.

he's boiled away all the non-essential notes in the harmonies and distilled it down only the notes that make a difference. it's a skeletal representation of the original harmony. to a certain extent this works due to the unstructured (read rubato) rhythmic environment and the sustaining capability of the instrument.
    very nice! :)
