    There's no better Frisell period than his Klein period!!! So good!

    I saw bill a few times in Oakland / Yoshi’s and he let me play the Klein. Such a sweet guy.

    Mindblowing how well they compliment each other, some of the best guitar music I've heard in a very long time

    Kind of fell away from Bill Frisell to an extent and tripped over this which I haven't seen in a few years either. This show brings me back to the depth of his music. I've listened to several different orchestrations of 'Throughout' (I'm going by memory on that title.). This version is wonderful. Big Blues - again - great. Two like minds and it's a joy to listen to it.

    Like Jim Hall since Undercurrent and his other recording where he played with great Bill Evans. Love Jazz with a guitar in. 🆗✔️😔🙏

    Goddamn Jim Hall/Bill Frisell, duo, i could walk out on my doorstep and get hit with a stray bullet when i wake up, totally fine if this is the last thing i ever heard

    12:40 is a great moment. Look at Jim's rapid eye movements the way he says something to himself, maybe I'm reading too much into it but it almost seems like he thinks they're out of sync as Frisell's phrase is so well placed, dreamy with a dark finish placed just right.

    Ain't it also included Steady girl from Before we were born album?
    Klein guitar is the Bill's sound in my book, pitty that it desintegrated at some point..

    Somebody out there in cyber land - if you can explain how a journeyman jazz guitarist can afford to have that instrument….. and all the others (SG, several old Teles, a Klein) …..maybe he is a kept man, maybe he is heir to a fortune, who knows. Frisell sure plays nicely, irrespective of bank account.

    • @Edfireman1

      Bills pretty famous. Constantly gigs and records. I expect he’s one of those few jazz musicians who actually earn a decent income.

      He's been quite successful over the years. He's got that mellow vibe somewhere between jazz, folk and pop thing going on, that many can relate to. Even if someone doesn't "get" his music, there's a nice relaxing atmosphere to it that's universally enjoyable.

    • @nigamshahmusic
      @nigamshahmusic 6 месяцев назад

      First, I wouldn't describe Bill Frisell as a journeyman -- he is one of the most popular jazz musicians around. But even if he was, a "journeyman" indicates a working professional, not a starving artist. It is not that strange for a working professional to spend a couple grand on the tools of the trade every couple of years. A nice guitar is about the same price as a high-end laptop. The difference is, nice guitars only get better with age, so a new guitar every 2 years becomes 10 guitars over 20 years...

    to think when they were recording this i was 11 years old and gushing over stuff like deftones, nirvana, queen, korn, metallica and bowie.

    • @Steakfinger
      @Steakfinger 5 лет назад +7

      There's nothing wrong with that, especially Bowie and Queen. Have you heard Bill Frisell play Live To Tell by Madonna? He didn't do it to be funny, he did it because it's compelling piece of music.

    • @reah7213
      @reah7213 5 лет назад

      @@Steakfinger yeah but the reason frisell prob doesnt cover any metallica or korn etc is cause they have no compelling melodies aside from works in general, in fact i cant think of a single queen song with a melody interesting enough to approach in this manner, well possibly one or two but, thats why you dont hear them play any of that because theres little to no content

      Jim loved Bill's playing and also Julian Lage's. He listened to mostly saxaphone players. I think this kept his playing fresh and adventurous.

      Oh dear - who cares what he plays? It's almost all in his brain and fingers - and his amp and pedals. He can play whatever guitar he wants because it's always going to sound like Bill Frisell.... He just needs to play what feels best to him.
