The dude might just be the most "complete" guitarist in terms of his ability to carry a song all by himself since Joe Pass gave his final performance. The understanding of the songs it takes to do something like this is incredible, but his approach the color he lends to every moment of his solo guitar performances touches on the sacred.
I get what you're saying. You may be right. I just didn't think I'd see Joe Pass's name in these comments. 2 thoroughly individual figures in the history of the music.
I am amazed at how many comments here are insightful. This shows that his music and his existence are both so inspiring. Long live Bill Frisell, you mean so much to us.
There are some artists, and Bill Frisell is surely one, who have explored and discovered wondrous music. He graciously plays his instrument for us to share his joy and I appreciate the courtesy. It amazes me that the experience is both hauntingly familiar and exhilaratingly fresh. Thank you...
Bill completely changed my approach to playing guitar, probably more than anyone. Be melodic, make it sing, there is only 1 style and that is how you play
This is yet another brilliant, magical, and intimate journey with Bill. And I must say it's rather charming that he's wearing a shirt that is simply enormous. It reminds my of a child with a favorite blanket. Perfect.
Both inspiring and intimidating -- a great musician and wonderful human being. I love it when a true virtuoso applies his subtle skills and insight to what many would regard as simple, basic "folk" material and brings out why it continues to endure.
I love the fact that every note he plays is in the groove. Competitive players might not register Frisell's tone, taste, timing and discipline. I LOVE it!
Andrew Skeggs one of the best things about discovering people late in their career is that you don’t have to wait for new albums to come out, Back catalogue!
étonnant guitariste ,il joue comme un un dieu ,sacré musicien hors norme ,il est prodigieux et créatif ,des sonorités exemplaires ,le top dans son genre ;il m'électrilise
You know you’re in for a treat - ok an eargasm - when the warmup and tuning provokes deep breaths and relaxation Larnell Lewis does something very similar with percussion: “The Forgotten Ones” will haunt you
Very cool Adam. I happen to have a nice, old Pro Reverb; such a great amp. I always pay attention to Bill's amps, which is quite futile because he could sound good through any amp. Cheers!
IshBrother He’s a big fan of the Line 6 DL4, but any loop pedal worth its salt will get you there in a more reliable manner. I’m pretty sure one of the TC Electronic Ditto models will get you the same in a sturdier package.
Line 6 DL4. This setting which is at the bottom, you can loop then go half time , reverse or double time reverse. Defiantly not the most intuitive pedal on earth, but I'm happy with it.
Anyone know the name of the second tune? It has blissful west african vibes. I only discovered Bill's music six months ago and I can't stop listening, such an inspiration, my favourite guitarost/musician. This has got to be up the with his best performances ive heard
TEDxGoldenGateED 2011 will be held at the historic Craneway Pavilion in Richmond, CA. Originally constructed in 1931 as a Ford factory, the building was repurposed during World War II as a production facility for tanks and jeeps. If you can imagine Rosie the Riveter there, you are not far off- Rosie the Riveter National Park is right next door. Besides the site’s historical significance, it is also a beautiful site located right on the edge of the San Francsico Bay, looking out to San Francisco’s skyline.
He's the kind of guy that will take a battered $60 Japanese guitar and make it sound like gold and leave you thinking..."Oh, it's about the performer...!"
Actually I’m sure he can play much faster than what you ever see being a guitarist of 20 years I can tell by his control and dexterity that he is well capable of it!

Julian Lage has to be there a well
Friesell and Lage are in my top ten contemporary jazz guitar players
Bill studied under Jim Hall. Nuff said
Bill's music makes my world a better place -i never tire of listening to him play.
I am amazed at how many comments here are insightful. This shows that his music and his existence are both so inspiring. Long live Bill Frisell, you mean so much to us.
Bill has been an inspiration for me as a guitarist since I first heard Power Tools in 1989. Genius

Roy Buchanan , Danny Gatton and now Bill Frisell ..... I'm truly not worthy of this beauty . I'm forever humble
This is yet another brilliant, magical, and intimate journey with Bill. And I must say it's rather charming that he's wearing a shirt that is simply enormous. It reminds my of a child with a favorite blanket. Perfect.
Thanks, Bill. Your music has made my life so much richer.
Amen

Joshua Polak This comment. Describes it perfectly. His level of understanding textures, tones and sensitivity is amazing.
I. Absolutely. LOVE. Him.
They do!
This guy is a genius... someday the world will understand him ...what a gift...
Watchim him allways makes me feel like a pennyless child in a candy store.
He paints textures with his beautiful tones...it's sheer bliss.
Best TED talk ever.
He has such a clean attack, such a beautifully light touch.
he is the old man river of guitar art and that is meant with the greatest of respect.
He expresses the utmost of emotions through his chords, dynamics, note choice, and means of expression available to an instrumentalist. Brilliant!
How much I love the man and his music, I just can't tell.
I just ♥ listening to Bill play the guitar.
simply beautiful! saw bill earlier this month @ the village vanguard in nyc. he was amazing to say the least.
More to Bill Frizell than I thought there would be. This is my first listen.
Andrew Skeggs one of the best things about discovering people late in their career is that you don’t have to wait for new albums to come out, Back catalogue!
Welcome to Frisell-land. Tracking his records and collaborations could take years.
One if my favorite solo performers. Captures you from his first notes
A master of subtlety. Such clarity of tone.
He takes the guitar for a wander into a different world and takes you with him -
GREAT COMMENT!! That's exactly what Bill keeps on doing!
Absolutely love this!
This is great! So happy to find this. Bill Frisell is a true master.
Amazing how every guitar he picks up ends up sounding like him!
So incredibly true!
A wonderful human being. So humble.
This is so beautiful and nostalgic.
It makes me feel that everything is going to be alright. :-)
just love it. Joe's guitar too. Just a perfect match of player, sound and instrument.
étonnant guitariste ,il joue comme un un dieu ,sacré musicien hors norme ,il est prodigieux et créatif ,des sonorités exemplaires ,le top dans son genre ;il m'électrilise
OK, I'll give the setlist a go:
Hard Times
Old Man River
Baba Drame
(please correct if wrong)
👋 Bill must have a beautiful soul
God bless Bill Frisell.
Amen!
That unmistakable vibrato...
You know you’re in for a treat - ok an eargasm - when the warmup and tuning provokes deep breaths and relaxation
Larnell Lewis does something very similar with percussion: “The Forgotten Ones” will haunt you
Just amazing!
Yea man~! Frisell is king. thanks xxo
Getting ready to see him live solo this week at the Chicago Art Institute.
One of the true masters of melody.
Harmony actually
Beautiful rendition
What a sweet sounding guitar! Thanks for sharing this!
I look forward to see him next 24 juin. Guitar in the space age.
Heaven player, Mr. Frisell is a true giant.
Best Ted talk I’ve ever heard.
Opening with Foster's Hard Times carrying a subtle gospel undertone. Sweet, a lot going on.
Good 'ol Bill....a true master!
Bill is actually very good and he appreciates dynamics. Yin and Yang!
Frisell is what having a dream about a road trip sounds like.
My hero.
The best way to explain someone depth vs quantity in music, is suggesting him/her to listen to 18:43 minutes of Bill Frisell alone with his guitar.
yanunziello are so freaking cool
I love that Bill is playing a $5200 guitar, but has grolsch bottle top gaskets as strap locks. What I consider a ringing endorsement for the guitar.
Very cool Adam. I happen to have a nice, old Pro Reverb; such a great amp. I always pay attention to Bill's amps, which is quite futile because he could sound good through any amp.
Cheers!
about 6 or 7 minutes in is "Old Man River"
@mn001g It's a Joseph Yanuziello. He builds immaculate guitars and is the salt of the earth!
Le plus grand génie de la musique depuis J.C Bach.
Immaculate performance - nearly good enough to forgive the monumentally screwed-up recording of it. What a blessing and what a shame...
Did metallica chop off your ears or something?
what a hero
Pristine and beautiful as usual! Bill appears to be wearing Paul Bunyon's shirt.
En la Boca del Desierto estuvo aquí.
Africa presente.
Bravo!!!
Music. An organic food.
Always love Bill's playing, anyone know what pedal in giving him that octave up reverse delay thingy?
IshBrother He’s a big fan of the Line 6 DL4, but any loop pedal worth its salt will get you there in a more reliable manner.

Wow!
This is the only ted talk I care about.
I think the first tune is "Hard Times."
"Hard Times Come Around No More."
song titles?
"if you see her, say hello"
amazing
r.
seamless use of effects
Does anyone know the luthier?
What is the African tune towards the end?
Anyone know the name of the second tune? It has blissful west african vibes. I only discovered Bill's music six months ago and I can't stop listening, such an inspiration, my favourite guitarost/musician. This has got to be up the with his best performances ive heard

Incredible. Anyone know what guitar he's playing?
+Kyle O'Brien doesn't matter.....he would get the same sound out of a $100 squire strat
almost looks like a Jerry Jones logo on the headstock.....but im not certain either
yanuziello!
joe yanuziello or something, he's based in Toronto
if this isn’t perfect then i don’t know what is
DAMN
th best.
Could one of you Bill-cats tell me where this was recorded? And then tell me why I missed it?
Well its TEDx, which is an independent TED event, and the title "golden gate-ed" would suggest San Francisco.
TEDxGoldenGateED 2011 will be held at the historic Craneway Pavilion in Richmond, CA.

see you tonight in Buenos Aires!

The first tune is "Hard Times Come Again No More" by Stephen Foster.
THANK YOU
Super!
21C electric folk & blues 🎶
Is that hard times come again no more?
J L yes. Old Man River is in the mix too.
Nice rendition of "hard times"
The only thing larger than Bills talent is Bills shirt
genius
The piece that starts at about 10 minutes is "Nobody's Fault But Mine"
nope
Bill's music sounds the way a Dali painting looks.
Did Bill get this concept from Danny Barnes, or vice versa...?
No playing guitar has been around a while now
@@craigmaddenmusic3408 lol
melodias Africanas
I wish I was you.
guy could shred, but does not feel the need
Paul Gartner Actually, Frisell said in some interview he could never play very fast.
He is about harmony, he can't actually shred much....thank god
Actually I’m sure he can play much faster than what you ever see being a guitarist of 20 years I can tell by his control and dexterity that he is well capable of it!
Do you know how Columbus felt?
What a great video. Anyone know anything about the guitar Bill is using here?
