She can see and feel music literally . I can tell. Some of the audience may see it as just “music”. But this is an extension of life and expression that only certain people have the gift of understanding. It’s like a 6th sense. I wish I was there live. @Justice Briana Coming from an empathic place, "getting it" is a tough word 😅. People fall under aspects and get some things and not others... you know what I mean? Broken qualities of good and bad add flavor to the world of imperfections made "perfect" through our own living experiences through it 💞. I know what you mean wanting to find those that "get it", trust me! But they maybe closer than you think and you just don't have the right frame of reference to see them. A great example of this would be the cover album of Santana, a lion drawing at first glance but more if you actually look at it, or the old lady/young lady ink drawing. Our "senses", upbringing, and environment have a way of distorting what is and isn't. Seeing clearly is the great divider.
Her level of coherence and knowing herself is extraordinary. What she doesn't specifically say is how difficult of challenging it is to connect to her emotional life. However, in her communication she does all of that and more by inferring that her emotional experience is definitely hers and therefore so is yours, ours. There is a profound sophistication in her sharing her artform. She is truly genius. I am so inspired. And also find her so freakin attractive, as she, by truly being herself, made herself approachable and vulnerably safe to enter her world. WOW!
6:43 She put perfectly into words how I feel about producing music as well. I do enjoy working with other people, but working in solitude (often in the wee hours), I seem to able to tap into something I can't when there's others around. Funny how this also goes both ways though, working with others can also give you fresh views and ideas you haven't had before.
So true...I am looking to learn music prodction and audio recording very soon, already into music theory! I decided that I will do it from home for this very reason that we seem agree on, but I would love opportunities to spend time being around others, be it for sharing ideas, working together, or both(?) lol.
Your brain is in a theta state shutting down the left brain and opening up a whole world of right brain frequency expanding creativity and taking you to another land. I go there quite often and can feel it when it happens. 😍
@@Mariagauthiermusic I think iv'e experienced the same. Happened to me while listening music while driving in my car. It felt like pure relaxation, not having to worry abt anything and I could just FEEL the music. Tbh, most TEDx talks I've viewed here were forgettable. This one is inspiring beyond words. I didn't want it to end. I would love to attend a full length concert/lecture by her.
I fully agree this is the best one I’ve seen so far. It’s inspiring me to keep making music which I have been now for 3 days. Been practicing keyboard and singing for 3 years to lead up to this
I love coming back to watch this over and over. When life gets away from me, it reminds me of what matters most, feeling, sound, connection, creativity, and, spirituality.
I just discovered this video & im glad I saw your comment. I just started producing music, and am focusing on really putting my emotions into it. I’m bookmarking this video just in case. Thank you ❤️
Not exactly a concert format....they seemed to appreciate it at the end. Amazing creativity. Had to be really hard to get there in this venue but well done. Perfect example of mastery.
They only plqy the cheering of crowds after the presentation, they fade in and out the mics near the audience so we can hear the presentation clearly without any disruptions
When someone tells you water is wet. Or air is important for breathing. You would look pretty bored. Case in point. Music elicits emotion. If I said that to you for sixteen minutes you probably should be pretty put off or at least bored.
Now THAT is a true artist with a true talent! I LOVE her so much! The way she speaks is art alone. When she’s making music does she become the music? No, I think the music is already inside her soul and it’s beautiful and raw and real! Her relationship with sound is both poetic and a bit profound!
to be fair, they were at a TED talk, not a concert. They had probably listened to some dude talk about the Dewey Decimal System for 20 minutes before her!
As a musician.. the only place I wanted to be other than playing in front of an audience, was in the studio. There's nothing quite like taking your raw ideas, much like a woodworker with an untouched piece of wood, and building and shaping and molding and layering and laboring your idea into a refined piece of work. To listen to your ideas come to life, and listening to the final product is one of the most rewarding feelings in the world!
There's a beautiful atmosphere to the style she plays. I love massive sounds and soundscapes, and her chord progression was well selected. She demonstrated her skill with scales and knowledge of the field. Not to mention, you have to have a good sense of time to know when to change the parameters of each sequence while singing lead vocals! Quite inspiring, really.
Ram Castillo What BEAUTIFUL LADY TOO ! She could have Sustained her voice just a little bit more 👉 when she sang I was a👉 'ROCKSTAR' )))))))))))))))))))))))))) 😨
translating human emotions into musical notes and linguistic notes are two different challenges. you surpassed both. you are indeed an infinite one-woman-band!!! you know the depth and power of solitude! ♥️
people like claudio and Grimes are to me the highest level of inspiration one can be - make you feel things youve never felt before through music/feelings you never though you could feel through music
Some people are so brilliantly articulate. Someone who can make such sense has arrived in the musical journey. She's understood the musical flow state. Wow.
First TED I've seen featuring a live musical performance. A great combination of quality talk + quality perform. Go Claudio - hope you are still around doing your stuff.
Never have I heard a more eloquent speech on the process of the modern composer/performer. And the chops to boot! Love the Nietzschean/zen description of reducing the messengers to one and exploring the space of expression well beyond language. Love it.
It is, by consequence of the sheer white knight of it against the obviousness that she’s in need of attention for not having anything to offer besides the d minor, and that like any musician, translating feeling into sound warrants her the special spot on TED.
so she could be a model, singer ,creator , musician, star, famous , business women speak italian and english and give ted talks motivation inspiration confident, betch how!!!
I disagree with that outlook of everyone can do everything. Id prefer realism and honesty and appreciation of the talents of others without needlessly showering them with praise and overloads of positivity. Not saying that's what you're doing here of course, just in general I think we'd benefit in the long run from all having truthful understandings of the world around us rather than the idea that every person could and should be a model and a rock star. lol
Sometimes you have to get inside the cracks that exists between the words or at least between the feelings that already have names and you have to kind of blindly and bravely feel your way around that very non-illuminated space until you stumble across the light switch in the hope that non of the monsters are real. In art in faithful self-expression you go until you've lit up the dark space.
i’ve never related to something more in my life. as a singer song writer and practising producer, everyday is a wonderful struggle to try and translate feeling into sound. even tho my knowledge of music production is limited right now, i know i must master this language because no one can manifest my vision into this world like i can. i am excited to learn, change and grow through music and show the outer world my inner world. thank you claudio, you are an inspiration! 🖤
Ever since I first watched it, that part has lived rent free in my brain. It is just so smooth and I loved the musical homage to the lyrics. It was perfectly in sync. Really, this whole thing was just stellar, and made me want to cry. I had a gut wrenching reaction to some of her instrument and note choices, which tells me what my own inner world vibes with and gives me a sort of compass to seek out my own direction artistically one day. I watch this periodically when I feel I need to connect to the inner world and the source. Just a beautiful gem of a talk.
I believe the "great mind" that said D minor was the saddest of all keys was Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap... and he was writing a piece called "Lick My Love Pump".
She is HUGE! She just told us that frequencies can resonate to express images and feelings beyond our limited language... that is the expression of another sense and another dimension of perception. She is a human being, beign a real human, using all the human brain capabilities to flow through the web of consciousness.
I had goosebumps and tears at the end. The thing that baffled me or made me sad about that song was the choice of the word ‘was’. Why ‘was’ she a rockstar when clearly she still ‘is’ a rockstar? Well done Claudio! I’ve watched this TED talk many times and I still get downloads every time
I remember those feelings she’s talking about, that ”zone". When a single note could make you mentally and almost physically fly away, disappear into another universe. Just me of 14 years old, a guitar, a synthesizer and my voice in a tiny 15 m² apartment with no family left and no friends just the ”zone”. A long time ago now but when she speaks I feel it as if it was today.. In a good way.
That is one of those songs that you can listen to over and over. And I did. Her voice is amazing and expressive. And to the audience, Claudio deserved a standing ovation for what she just expressed to you all. It was very emotional.
I remember Trent Reznor saying, at the beginning of his group Nine Inch Nails, that he gathered a band to play live because the thought of playing on a stage alone was terrifying to him. This lady has talent and a huge amount of courage. Respect!
How Rachel Claudio translated the feeling into sound. Start as a child with a keyboard and a tape recorder. End up as a rockstar. Your mileage my vary.
I play it all along, every time. I love languages, translation psychology, Music, Electro music, and ... EMOTIONS. It brings it all. Together. Thanx @Claudio !
"In songwriting, juste like in language, in order to express a feeling, you absolutely have to capture and seize : The thought, The experience, The memory, The feeling inside the mind. And be able to understand it"
Music resonates and strikes specific chords within the instrument of the human body. What an intricately articulated translation about the harmony between music and humans.
Something about the feeling I got when listening to the way she used her words, and described music as THE HIGHER POWER. When she demonstrated, it gave what it was supposed to give. This is a true artists, connection with the source. I want to find that. That connection, that source, and understand it. This was very inspiring to watch. ✨
This is what I'm talkin' about!! Bravo to TED talks for reaching new heights with lectures. This audience got more than a lecture, they got a freakin' show!!!
Amazing and beautiful - her, her choice of words and her mind and soul that create the music! Just wow! I admire how she let all of her be seen by the audience! She showed us how beautiful being brave and authentic is and that we are all the same within and the best thing in life is connecting.
This video is 6 years old. And I’ve just watched it recently for the first time. She is amazing in expressing her thoughts, feelings, being in such a smooth flow… An Angel hit me in my heart! Pure love🖤🖤🖤
she seems so nervous on first few min but she doesn't as soon as her song starts. tbh I'm more impressed by her focus and expression while song than anything
Man, I was having a real mentally bad moment. I've been trying to write a song for the past few hours and my lack of progress and direction have been chipping away at my mental health. I was sitting here with my guitar while watching this, and when she started playing, I just started jamming along with her. And it felt so natural, and so fun, and it helped me rediscover what drew me to music in the first place.
I keep coming back to this and reveling in it’s beauty! We are musical/spiritual doppelgängers! Thank you for eloquently, beautifully, succinctly and vividly relaying how music is our soul’s purpose...namaste dear one!
To be honest, I didn't get how to convert my feeling into music, it was a very specific talk for people with 3 keyboards. Nothing about lyrics, or other instruments. However she seems an expert musician and she proved it at the end. She basically said "Do whatever you can in solitude, get good at producing and play until something comes up"
"It doesn't create the sadness. The thing is that we carry the sadness already"
Sista, I felt that.

I am searching for people like this who “get it”...a truly rare gem. 🖤
Exactly! she GETS IT
I feel like I get it, however I was the worst at school and learning other things but with music...it feels like a gift.
@@jungoogie 🌈Salvador Dali😎
Same here. She has such an amazing thought process. Definitely gave me a new way to look at composing.
*As a musician....she's tranced out in her own reality....in her own chosen sound!!*
*The crowd is just outta the loop trying to comprehend HER!!*
Isn't that the case for every artist?
I agree
I think she's real.
And communication , to reach the hearts, is not there. She needs to touch emotions in the listener, not drown them with her music
I always have like 1000 thought in my head at the same time so it felt really good having my head empty. IDK how to get there tho, just happens randomly I guess?
Thank you ❤️
Jesus matters.
He is the way the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father ( into heaven) except through Christ.
John 14:6
Love her music! Why do TED audiences always look dead?
They are processing...
🤣🤣🤣
Now THAT is a true artist with a true talent! I LOVE her so much! The way she speaks is art alone. When she’s making music does she become the music? No, I think the music is already inside her soul and it’s beautiful and raw and real! Her relationship with sound is both poetic and a bit profound!
As a songwriter and a singer, I should say this performance was mesmerizingly sublime.
The audience didn’t deserve her. She still gave .🌻
to be fair, they were at a TED talk, not a concert. They had probably listened to some dude talk about the Dewey Decimal System for 20 minutes before her!
we are her audience too
Coach: "Ok team, I want you to get out there and give it dot sunflower"
Team: "what?"
Coach: "you know .🌻"
@@Victropical the ted talk about how to write music from the dewey decimal sistem guy was a million times more helpful than this
I have so much respect and admiration not just for artistic people but anyone who has such passion for what they do or love
Absolutely Stunning. Her music is amazing.
And she can explain her way through something as complex as music production with finesse. Stunning
I show this to my class of 5 year olds every year and every year they are completely engaged. Thanks for expressing yourself so clearly!
You Rachel Claudio, are a gift. Thank you for sharing your world.
Ram Castillo What BEAUTIFUL LADY TOO ! She could have Sustained her voice just a little bit more 👉 when she sang I was a👉 'ROCKSTAR' )))))))))))))))))))))))))) 😨
Bub7*7 T. What
Hey! can I share another TEDx talk with you
"I was a Rockstar" is completely sublime. her voice is fantastic and her use of looping is great
translating human emotions into musical notes and linguistic notes are two different challenges. you surpassed both. you are indeed an infinite one-woman-band!!! you know the depth and power of solitude! ♥️
people like claudio and Grimes are to me the highest level of inspiration one can be - make you feel things youve never felt before through music/feelings you never though you could feel through music
Check out Tom Thumb, he is a beat box artist and uses loopers, samplers to create tracks with his insane beat box skills.
The sincereness of her passion is truly mesmerizing! Love her performance, voice and music ❤️
Never have I heard a more eloquent speech on the process of the modern composer/performer. And the chops to boot!
Love the Nietzschean/zen description of reducing the messengers to one and exploring the space of expression well beyond language. Love it.
I really can't tell if your comment is satire or not.
Sam Louix It really doesn't seem like it. But, Poe's Law.
It is, by consequence of the sheer white knight of it against the obviousness that she’s in need of attention for not having anything to offer besides the d minor, and that like any musician, translating feeling into sound warrants her the special spot on TED.
She is mesmerizing. I could listen to her speak forever. A passionate voice soothing humanity.
so she could be a model, singer ,creator , musician, star, famous , business women speak italian and english and give ted talks motivation inspiration confident,
betch how!!!
Lol betch same way you can too! 😘✨
Leah Thompson what leah said!! :’)
I disagree with that outlook of everyone can do everything. Id prefer realism and honesty and appreciation of the talents of others without needlessly showering them with praise and overloads of positivity. Not saying that's what you're doing here of course, just in general I think we'd benefit in the long run from all having truthful understandings of the world around us rather than the idea that every person could and should be a model and a rock star. lol
This was horrible.. It was just noise. Any uneducated child can do better.. Sorry you're so far stuck up her... A$$
these comment replies have a deeper meaning
Sometimes you have to get inside the cracks that exists between the words or at least between the feelings that already have names and you have to kind of blindly and bravely feel your way around that very non-illuminated space until you stumble across the light switch in the hope that non of the monsters are real. In art in faithful self-expression you go until you've lit up the dark space.
the monsters are real
Gave me chills
Moved by her words and taken beyond the template with her sound.
The monsters disappear when we know and bring them to light, and expression arises, art can form. This is my view.
Beautifully put! Cok guzel!
"Inside the cracks that exist between the words".
Love your descriptive phrases.
Great clip. Memorably spoken with wit, wisdom and meter.
Thank you.
i’ve never related to something more in my life. as a singer song writer and practising producer, everyday is a wonderful struggle to try and translate feeling into sound. even tho my knowledge of music production is limited right now, i know i must master this language because no one can manifest my vision into this world like i can. i am excited to learn, change and grow through music and show the outer world my inner world. thank you claudio, you are an inspiration! 🖤
True 🤍
she seems like a one in a million in every possible meaning
13:54 has a certain kind of beauty that most missed. The whole thing is just pure fire 🔥🔥🔥
smooth transition for sure 🤙
Ever since I first watched it, that part has lived rent free in my brain. It is just so smooth and I loved the musical homage to the lyrics. It was perfectly in sync.
Really, this whole thing was just stellar, and made me want to cry. I had a gut wrenching reaction to some of her instrument and note choices, which tells me what my own inner world vibes with and gives me a sort of compass to seek out my own direction artistically one day. I watch this periodically when I feel I need to connect to the inner world and the source. Just a beautiful gem of a talk.
Oh , I'm in awe. I love her arrangements, I'm crying 😢. I'm so connected with her work !
What is her name?
I believe the "great mind" that said D minor was the saddest of all keys was Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap... and he was writing a piece called "Lick My Love Pump".
AHAHA, yes i laughed out so loud, when she said that xD
5 comments in a row in capitals? .. hahah someone's pissed
heyy just stopped to say that I'm a big fan of your work. And also I use your lyric canvas regularly it helps a lot ✨
Spot on 😂
Jennifer - have you actually heard of Spinal Tap?
She is HUGE! She just told us that frequencies can resonate to express images and feelings beyond our limited language... that is the expression of another sense and another dimension of perception. She is a human being, beign a real human, using all the human brain capabilities to flow through the web of consciousness.
Damn I love how she verbalizes music- my kind of person to converse with. 🙌🏾
She strummed my pain with her fingers and sang my life with her words.
I understand her 100 percent, I don’t try to explain it to anyone else but the feeling to me is like ‘melting’ true love feels like it too
She is a walking poem. True beauty. 💘 your lovely mind. Great ted
that bassline was smooth I knew I was in for a treat thank you
You are art - the way you speak, the way you move on the stage, the way you use gestures… Thank you for sharing this.
Loved her explanation of accessing that "sacred state of flow". Unwatched, unjudged, free..." Brilliant!
My soul has confirmed that the translation was well received.❤👌
Easily one of the most engaging talks I’ve ever seen. Inspirational to someone like me who also aspires to write music. Bravo Claudio!
Her understanding of music’s creative process can only be born - to produce this captive performance …
She gets goosebumps all the time... This is amazing
That is one of those songs that you can listen to over and over. And I did. Her voice is amazing and expressive. And to the audience, Claudio deserved a standing ovation for what she just expressed to you all. It was very emotional.
I entirely agree. I don´t understand how the audience could resist not giving her the standing ovation she deserves!😶
I remember Trent Reznor saying, at the beginning of his group Nine Inch Nails, that he gathered a band to play live because the thought of playing on a stage alone was terrifying to him. This lady has talent and a huge amount of courage. Respect!
I think she's one of those people who thinks in abstract thoughts and doesn't think in voice
I think I can't understand her cause she's a genius
She's an intuitive, research MBTI mate.
Would make sense - but she talks about internal dialogue at @1:14.
You mean a human? lol
@@blakewood2755 that has nothing to do with it. Some people think with images, and some people think with words.
How Rachel Claudio translated the feeling into sound. Start as a child with a keyboard and a tape recorder. End up as a rockstar. Your mileage my vary.
dang, i never had a tape player! does that mean I should give up my dream of being a rockstar?
@@Victropical rockstar you can be : but at home now ^^
I play it all along, every time.
Ive never heard the musical creation process described so eloquently! Just to be capped off with such an organic performance. I love it!
She is incredible! The way she interprets sound and it’s ability to pierce our emotions and unravel the matter is pure and unadulterated.
Something about the feeling I got when listening to the way she used her words, and described music as THE HIGHER POWER. When she demonstrated, it gave what it was supposed to give. This is a true artists, connection with the source. I want to find that. That connection, that source, and understand it. This was very inspiring to watch. ✨
Not sure you are meant to understand it, just listen carefully; like child enthralled by a story.
@@davebutler3905 And Let it work subconsciously. Amazing.
I find it intriguing that her last name has the word ‘audio’ Pure talent
Thank you for a daily smile over claudio & audio.Forever & ever
It like mashup of sound and cloud - soundcloud :)
Woah. You just blew my fckin mind man
cool
Thought the exact same thing and wondered if she may have made that name up
This is what I'm talkin' about!! Bravo to TED talks for reaching new heights with lectures. This audience got more than a lecture, they got a freakin' show!!!
Play the High hat 13:54 ! Yes👏🏾👏🏾she’s simply breathtaking and brilliant.
Amazing and beautiful - her, her choice of words and her mind and soul that create the music! Just wow!
I admire how she let all of her be seen by the audience! She showed us how beautiful being brave and authentic is and that we are all the same within and the best thing in life is connecting.
The synth bends... you know she's been listening to that James Blake Retrograde
Love that jam
I was thinking that it is stylistically extremely reminiscent of Overgrown
3:08 I'm literally this dude the whole video just in awe of how complicated but easy she's explaining everything
same AHAHHA
This video is 6 years old.
And I’ve just watched it recently for the first time.
She is amazing in expressing her thoughts, feelings, being in such a smooth flow…
An Angel hit me in my heart!
Pure love🖤🖤🖤
Great TEDx! I believe that if you can only reach one person with your music, it's with it.
she seems so nervous on first few min but she doesn't as soon as her song starts. tbh I'm more impressed by her focus and expression while song than anything
Wow
This is the best TED talk I've ever seen
'Sacred state of flow' - YES
yeaaaaaaaaaaah
I keep coming back to this and reveling in it’s beauty! We are musical/spiritual doppelgängers! Thank you for eloquently, beautifully, succinctly and vividly relaying how music is our soul’s purpose...namaste dear one!
To be honest, I didn't get how to convert my feeling into music, it was a very specific talk for people with 3 keyboards. Nothing about lyrics, or other instruments. However she seems an expert musician and she proved it at the end. She basically said "Do whatever you can in solitude, get good at producing and play until something comes up"
Her elequence and expression are hypotizing. I espessially love the beauty of her hands when she is playing.
This has a James Blake feel...its wavy, I LOVE IT!
Exactly!
She looks like she's on the verge of crying since she walked on stage. Love her stuff. So much emotion
So I am in the Caribbean, I just stumble across a TED talk, and I end up watching this. Totally awesome, and I mean awesome !
Enchanting, engaging, enigmatic, experiential, eclectic and essential. Thank you for sharing the magic you evoke and posses.
When you lay a sick jam on a room full of academics 😑
Chill bro 😂😂
I’ve not a clue how much the gifts flow to us. This is my morning.
