No ones ever said anything bad about Bill Frisell
Bill Frisell is a BAD man
In the best way
This is the sound that the clouds should make when we go outside.
Great!
For a couple of years now Bill Frisell has become my favourite guitarist.
He doesn't shoot billions of notes but he chooses them with great finesse.
Thanks for sharing 😎
Bill's remarkable. And you're absolutely right. Notes. It isn't how many. It's which ones.
Don’t kid yourself Frissell’s playing lots of notes it’s just that they’re played harmonically not melodically. If you count total notes played he’s prolly playing at least as much as a typical jazz shredder only difference is BF’s notes are together in double stops, triads, or chord scales.
Btw the bassist got a free bowl of soup with his haircut.
@@RozarSmacco Interesting. You're probably right. As an avid listener (and non musician) I very much appreciate how Bill pretty much avoids the pyrotechnics. And don't pick on the bass player.
I am a big fan of Bill playing louder and fierce, Neil Young-style ( like the trio with Krauss and Wollesen or Chamberlain on drums ). But i have to say that here he is at his best, in a subtle way.
Frisell's pyrotechnics are not essentially bad, but here he plays fantastic and with finesse, as you said. Pyrotechnics example :) - ruclips.net/video/KwFKsAxB3kQ/видео.html
I was lucky enough to see this combo, with Petra H on vocals, in Brisbane ..... I'm guessing it was the same tour ..... what a fantastic night of superb music !!! I loved it ..... felt so sorry and embarrased for Bill and the rest to have to play in such a small room with hardly any audience , but those of us there were captivated. A truly wonderful night ..... thank you Mr Frisell.
This trio, pure gold.
20:20
'more or less mixed purity'
Simply one of the great joys in life. And any time this one repeats when I click on it on my computer.
As much as youtube can be annoying, sometimes it's a real bless.
This is one of the most beautiful and uplifting concerts ever.
Morgan’s bass solo at about 16:30 is just too tasty! A wonderful set - pure master class!! 🎵
Semplicemente divino. Ho molti album di Frisell e apprezzo di più quelli eseguiti in trio così come i concerti.
10ish years of always listening to Frisell and there's always something crazy exciting like I'd just discovered him. In this case, 22:20 - It Should Have Happened A Long Time Ago-- absolutely incredible.
I think Mr. Frisell is so polyhedric in terms of sound and guitar playing, that this same thing you mention happens to most of us! 😄
Bill redefines what jazz guitar mastery is. He packs so much harmonic punch with such efficient choices, it's a thing of beauty.
Bill and Sco, the teachers. If you want to listen to a young guitarist who is already a master, check out Javier Sánchez.
This trio is so special - I can't believe I'm only finding about them now.
@ 22:26 'It Should Have Happened A Long Time Ago' by Paul Motian (main melody at @ 24:45)
Going to see them live TODAY.
Magic. This whole setlist is great... it's once again the Motian tune especially, "It Should Have Happened a Long Time Ago", that sends me into outer space, under a spell, whichever metaphor.... really profound music.
I saw this trio at Boulder Theater and one word to describe it Wow!!!
Awesome Maravilha many thanks muito obrigado Bill and everybody
Swinging hard on Epistrophy!!!
After all the open stuff, right? It sure makes you stomp your feet when the swing starts💥💥💥
A Pure Masterclass Bill Frissell. This whole band has finesse.
Thank you , this concert is really good
so much spirits in this trio ! amazing musicians
Awesome live concert, Bill is always amazing but his band is in fantastic form on this occasion. Thanks for posting this concert.... !
Bill interprets Monk better than anybody I think.
This is a masterclass of musicality (among a dozen more things)!! What a Great musicians they are💥💥💥
Thank you for sharing🙏😃
Wonderful concert, great musicians.
This is ART. Thank you.
I think this is one of the best versions of "It Should Have Happened A Long Time Ago"
Man his tones!
👍🏾👍🏾
New for me... I loved.
Rudy!
Geat set!
OMG.
He’s got a safety clip 😮in that sizzle ride cymbal !!!! 34:45 to 34:50
Never seen that
And you’ve never seen COLORS wisping up from a snare before…..let alone from a cymbal
WOW
He’s a brilliant drummer! (For effects also watch Dim Sunk. His amazing range of cymbals. Especially his “rain” cymbal).
@@garymelnyk7910
I will - thank you so very much
He just pulls all sorts of tones out of the drums. Sticks, mallets, brushes - all fair game. And he has this cymbal stroke that is all arm--not seen much at all.
love it
👍👍👍😊👍👍👍
Bassists! Can you identify what strings Morgan is using here? Maybe some type of gensslers on D and G?
He uses Thomastic Superflexible solo strings tuned to orchestra pitch on his bass. However, this is not his bass and I cannot tell.
Does Thomas Morgan also play with Jakob Ebo ????
yep, Jakob Bro trio with Thomas Morgen and the amazing Joey Baron on drums
Anyone know who makes that 12-string solid-body he uses on 'Lonesome'?
Answered my own question: It's a Harvester, from an Australian bespoke guitar maker, and they loaned it to him just for this show.
Thank you for letting us know :) A Happy New Year !
@Evan Hodge It means made to measure, ie. not mass-produced. Originated in the tailoring business. Look it up.
Swinging drummer😀
And what a sound he gets out of his instrument (and for the band) without apparently any effort. Of course all the greats provide this, like Brian Blade, Joey Baron, Bill Stewart, Marcus Gilmore, ... Royston definitely plays in that league.
Anyone know what the guitar is in the first song - almost looks like a tele?
It’s definitely a tele but I couldn’t tell you what brand
It's a J.W. Black custom built T-style one
@@orestistsinalis He worked as a master builder for fender custom, if i'm not mistaken.
is that a ditto x4 he uses?
Line 6 DL6 looper and delay.
that sound at 6:00 just cost me $299!
:)
