I really wish sigma would make a full frame version of this lens, even if it wasn't f/1.8, it would be a great value for people who want a great alternative to the more expensive native wide angle zooms. Great review, and great footage!
i'm surprised nobody mentioned the Tamron 35-150, f2-2.8... it's f2 up through 85mm, which is amazing, obv the fastest FF zoom that isn't that old discontinued 24-35f2... folks just not into Sony? top of the game rn!
Fantastic video - finally managed to find someone with both an R6 and the sigma 18-35 to see how it fared vs other lenses as I was looking to purchase this. Loved Kodak too, great job!
2:47 Ah, I was hoping you would illustrate how much coverage the lens has outside the s35 crop. Do you know? Surely, it covers more than 1.6x, but how much more?
so on the sofa test the highlights were more blown and the shadows brighter. thats not dynamic range.. that is a different exposure. so maybe the lense have a different T stop or the sensor has a different sensitivity.
Great video. There are not many videos about the R6 crop mode. I recently used it indoors and found it much noisier than the full frame mode, even with the RF 24-70. I was surprised because I've made some tests before and the footage was great, but it was outside. When I used the crop mode indoors it gave me noticeably more noise. But, I still like this mode, it may be useful also for long time recordings as the R6 doesn't overheat in 4k crop mode (at least not so quickly)
Thanks! Yeah I do notice noise is more present in the shadow areas when shooting in crop mode. Outdoors with limited shadows you could barely see any. Still if you able to shoot at 800 or 1600 iso the noise should be manageable.
As Canon R50 and Sigma 18-35mm owner, what do you think is a better investment: Canon R8 or R7? Shooting concerts and street mostly, but leaning towards all-purpose camera.
I used the canon EF to RF adapter. The Sigma APSC lenses still use the same EF mount as full frame Sigma and Canon lenses but the optics are conducive to APSC sensors.
That made my day. Currently im using gh5 but i need R6 autofocus full frame. And i got sigma 18-35. 24-70 costs around 2k $ so i have to wait for IT. Thanks you very much for this video then ;D
great video, thanx! what's about stabilisation? it does works R6 IBIS with non-stabilised Sigma 18-35? I have RF 24-105 f4 and I'nt choose between this lenses for handhandled simple shots.
Thanks! In terms of stabilization, IBIS remains on, but can’t be turned off like with other third party lenses. Stabilization works pretty good over all but probably not as good as an RF lens with optical stabilization like the 24-105
Actually you are not cramming more pixels are you when you go crop mode? You just need the middle 8mp of the sensor even for 4k crop. Each pixel stays intact. Perhaps noise should not increase that much?
this is what i was really looking for! thank you for the great video and actually im also curious about, if the full frame 4k image of r6 and cropped 4k image of r6 identical in terms of image sharpness, what do you think? :)
Awesome! Glad you found the video helpful! I actually don’t shoot much 4K. I tend to upscale my footage to 4K in post, so I can’t give you a well tested answer. From brief observation the 4K in crop mode still looks great. Definitely useable. Low light is still pretty good, but it will always be better in full frame than in crop mode.
Didn’t use it in high frame rate when I owned the lens cause I did t shoot in 60fps or 120fps, but I believe in 1080p mode you can shoot high frame rate on crop mode
Great video man! May I ask that in order for you to fully utilise this lens on the Canon R6, you will have to enable the crop mode right? If yes, are there any loss in the image quality for video and photography? Thanks!
Thanks man! I haven’t taken it out of crop mode with the lens on, but if I had to guess if you did you’d probably get some major vignetting on the wider focal lengths, but might be usable around 30-35mm. Honestly the image look great even in crop mode. Just can’t crop in too much
Sorry to hear that. I haven’t had any overheating issues in 1080p in any frame rate both in full frame and crop mode. Might need to call Canon about that
Gotcha! I don’t have an RP, so I’m not sure how to help. I’m surprised it doesn’t give you the option to shoot 1080p, it might be a limitation of the camera processor.
I use mine with a Meta bones speed-booster with Enhanced IBS. The crop gives me NO Vignette from 18-35mm in 4K CLog. No quality issues. (Standard IBS = Slight Vignette 18-22mm)
You shot on a 1.8 and a 2.8 Lens and did not adjust the ISO and F stop accordingly ..so the images had to be brighter on the 1.8 plus the lens cannot change the color of the Image..That came from ..you... when you run a test like this one next time you have to put in consideration the ISO and F stop so that your exposure is balanced ..Otherwise the lens can not be responsible for your failure..
Lenses do impact color replication in your images. It comes down to coatings on the lens optics, the number of optic elements and how they refract light into the sensor which then translates that light information. I know there are more elements in the 24-70, but the coatings I am unsure. Next, I shot the 24-70 wide open at 2.8 at ISO 800 and I shot the 18-35 at f2.8 at the same ISO. I should have clarified that info in the video. That’s my fault. Lenses do also impact the contrast of light in your image which can explain why shadows may appear brighter on one lens and darker on another. The exposure and settings are the same though. I made sure of that when filming. Lastly, and this is a courtesy thing. You can give feedback without being passive aggressive. I enjoy conversing with other creatives and I appreciate receiving feedback, but when people try to degrade others, me or anyone, that’s where I draw a line.

Do you need an adapter or does it just fit on with out an adapter? Thanks.
You need the rf to ef adapter to add this lens to the R6
I am confused is this a video for the regular Sigma 18 - 35mm or The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM ART lens?
Great videos, can i use 1080p on canon r50 camera. Is there any barrelling effects

Can you use slow motion while using the APSC lens? Like 60FPS or 120?
You can use 60fps both in HD and 4K. 120fps is not available in crop mode.

How much of the sensor does it cover without the crop mode?
Sorry it’s been a while for me to respond, 28mm and beyond doesn’t have vignetting due to sensor coverage on full frame mode
crop mode uses less of the sensor, there will be a loss in quality overall.
