Loving the content as always Tom! I’ve just got the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 for my Canon 80D mainly for video work.Watched a lot of your content on this lens. I’m looking forward to using it and seeing what it can do. Keep up the content man!
Do you recommend the 24-105mm or the sigma 18 35mm? For videos and for sharpness. If I have the sigma 18 35 should I upgrade to rf lens. I don't really have the money for it.
Planning on buying the Canon Eos R6. Idk... I want a wide angle lens with fast aputure and the sigma 18-35mm looks really promissing but I've got some concerns; - I want to get the 24-105 F4L lens with my R6 as a run & gun lens. this pretty much covers up a lot of focal length range. - How does an aps-c lens attach to a FullFrame camera? my guess is that at using its full width (18mm), i'd have vignetting in my shot unless I crop the sensor by 1.5x? - Isn't it kind of weird to get a lens which would result in focal lengths equivalent to the lengths I already have with my 24-105? (since the crop would make the lens a 27-52 lens) I'm planning on doing food videography so wide lenses or macrolenses are an important subject for me.
The more important concern for me is when Canon applies a 1.6x crop when using Canon EF-S lenses and just leaves us with the middle 12MP out of the 30MP.
Have you used the sigma 24-35mm f2 ? I sold my 18-35mm f1.8 and go that one, it's quite similar except it actually works great on a full frame . To me it's the full frame equivalent of the 18-35.
I currently have the Canon EOS R and a Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R but when I put in my Sigma 18-35mm on it has a really bad vignette. Like literally a black circle around it. Any suggestions?
I wanted to buy it for replacing my 16mm , but with a Canon EOS R you basically can’t take pictures with this? I don’t know what lens to buy for pictures & videos now😭
Hello friend, your video is very nice. Can you tell me if it works well for photography? Can you tell me if the metabones maintains the 0.71x factor for any lens? For example taking a picture with an EF 35mm camera, will the adapter show more field of view? I already thank you
Nice video, really informative! When you say that 'owning this lens already' was key, if you had to buy a 4k lens specifically for the Canon EOS R without owning this which would you go for?
Hello friend, a question, I have the Rp with a signa 18-35mm but it only allows me to record in 4k at 24fps, how could I record at 1080, I don't get the option, I would appreciate your help.
The Sigma 18-35mm is technically an EF lens, not EF-S, even though it's APS-C. Canon doesn't license the EF-S specs, so every third party lens for Canon is EF, regardless of it being APS-C or FF.
This was/is some GOOD info! I currently have a 90d and was looking to get another camera. I’ve actually debated on getting a second 90d, 🤦🏽♂️ but… Im very interested in the Mirrorless. The EOS R is on my list and I already own the Sigma lens (love that lens!). I’ll hav to do just a lil more research. #RobbArmstrong
It’s a sick camera, but it definitely is quirky. I’m missing high frame rate options personally, but I’ll get some RF glass when the cheaper options come out! Apparently they’re working on a 50mm 1.8 etc
Awesome video! Could u please explain a bit why the lens doesn’t work in 50p or 60p on the eos-r? Such a bummer if that’s the case. Is there any way around this? Thank you! =]
I have to admit I don’t know why it’s the case. It’s because the lens is EF-S and not just a normal EF lens, but it does seem like a weird cripple from Canon.
hey tom, you said this doesnt do 50/60 frames, is that just with 4k? or is that period? i'm researching this lens currently, but if it can't do 1080p60 on a canon 90d, it may be a no go for my specific needs. :(
Ok I have a tongue twister. I need full HD 60 FPS with my crop lens on EOS R. Can I shoot with an APSC lens using the Full frame setting (As opposed to the eos R crop setting) and then letting the digital IS enhanced give me a near apsc crop.. You follow? If so would I be happy with the results? I do not currently own the EOS R to try this.
Yes, an adapter is needed. What's cool is that Canon makes an adapter that allows you to drop in a specialised variable ND filter. This means no need for multiple filters or step up rings, you can use one variable nd for all your adapted Canon lenses.
Or get an Rf 15-35 or 16-35 mark 3 a full frame lens instead of a crop those would be better options to deal with the crop in 4k and maybe add in a speed booster
I love that lens but was bummed out when I found out you can’t get Full HD 60fps on the EOS R with it
Correct, it’s because it’s famously a lens for crop or S35 sensors
@@ItsTomRich Till this date it won't get 60fps in fhd with the EOS R?

Thanks so much Oliver! Really glad you’re liking the content - hope you shoot some killer stuff with the lens!
Killer setup. Technique trumps technology. I'm sticking to my 90D and 1080p - all that's needed.
With this video you really helped me out with the 4K crop "problem". Thanks to you I have finally decided to buy the eos R.
Really glad I could help dude!

Literally use my sigma 18-35 for everything now besides vlogs. I don't even carry my canon 50mm f1.8 with me anymore for broll lol.
Andre Thomas Yeah it’s an absolutely killer B-roll lens, then you can even shoot landscapes at 18mm too 😎

not good enough
I don't know tons about cameras so I figured I'd ask - I have a Canon 80D, could I shoot 60fps HD with this lens?
Basically what you are saying is you can use any EF-S lens in 4k on the EOS R because of the crop. Good to know. Thanks
Correct :)
Just to clarify, you had to use a RF-EF adaptor right for this? So for photography, did you experience any vignetteing?
Have you used the sigma 24-35mm f2 ? I sold my 18-35mm f1.8 and go that one, it's quite similar except it actually works great on a full frame . To me it's the full frame equivalent of the 18-35.

@@Sayject It's a crop sensor lens, it will have vignetting on a full frame camera
use crop mode
This lens is great on Canon APS-C DSLR cameras i heard. I just never get it because it's so big and heavy 😲
Canon I use this lens with canon EOS RP??
Yes but it won’t work obviously in full frame mode :)
@@ItsTomRich Is there APSC mode on Canon RP??
eos r r6 5dm4 which one is good for wedding and long term use

Good question! I just bought the 24-105 F4 which is an amazing zoom, but not as wide as the sigma. I also own the Canon 16-35mm F2.8 which is unreal

No worries Juan!
Tom's favorite lens right there!
You betcha 😆
Will the sigma 1/-35mm lens work with Canon EOS R Mirrorless Full Frame Camera ?
No, you'll have a big dark vignette
Loved this video my man. I love rocking my 18-35 on my EOS R

Wait you can’t shoot any slow motion on the R using this lens? Like 60 FPs
No sadly not, it's not compatible with 60fps which I do mention
Do you need a metabone speedboaster
No the canon adapter works great
how is the auto focus tracking on this lens sigma 18-35 with canon r
It’s really fantastic, probably pretty close to native RF lenses
@@ItsTomRich great..if i used it on canon R6 there will be vignetting? On 4K?
Yeah, this lens wouldn’t be a great choice really for the R6.
@@ItsTomRich hi! What similar lens can u recommend with R6?
@@ItsTomRich the 18-35 is great on the R6. It auto switches to apsc mode. Superb 4k60. Can’t do 1080 120 with the sigma in crop mode though.
is there only one adapter for any lens to eps r?
and what kind of adapter i can buy for this lens?
No there are two, the standard canon adapter, Metabones speedbooster and a canon adapter with an ND built in
should i get eos r? or is rf glass too expensive?
It’s a sick camera, but it definitely is quirky. I’m missing high frame rate options personally, but I’ll get some RF glass when the cheaper options come out! Apparently they’re working on a 50mm 1.8 etc

Oh no you’ll be fine with it on the 90D! It will work in 60FPS no problem.
How about using that lens with eos r6.
You’d have a pretty big crop which would be a shame when the R6 shoots full frame 4K !
How is autofocus with this setup?
Very good
Thank you for answering.
Question…. I have the R and the lens but I realized I can’t shoot 1080p 60fps with it? 😭😭😭
I covered that in the video
DPAF with EFS len?
You lose it in 4K so not really
@@ItsTomRich so no DPAF in 4K. What about FHD(1080) or is FHD disabled for efs and only works in 720(HD)
Yes you still get dual pixel auto focus with the eosr when shooting with crop sensor lenses
bro should I use that lens 90d is that possible? Please reply me brother
Definitely. I did a whole video on this lens on the 90D :)

With EF-S lenses you can’t shoot 60FPS at all on the EOS R so be careful. Overall I would recommend getting some full frame lenses
Tom Rich ok so you can’t set your camera to full frame even though lens is crop
No, correct
@@ItsTomRich seems like something that should have been correct with firmware
I suppose it begs to ask the question...Why does this video show a crop lens being used in Full frame mode if in fact it is not possible?
it's apsc format.. no vignette??
On full frame yes, but not in 4K
I havent had my hair cut since late March. Any longer and my clients will be worried when Bigfoot turns up at their jobs.

Yes
