  • Welcome to another video in our new series, In The Garage - where we share the projects we've been doing behind the scenes with our Lance 825 Truck Camper. In this episode, we will be upgrading our internet / WiFi from a Netgear Hotspot with a WeBoost antenna to the Flat High Performance Starlink with the mobile roaming service plan. We’ll take you through our step by step install of the Starlink receiver, power supply and router, along with how our very first test run went at a remote lake in the Rocky Mountains.

    I'm glad you adapted to using starlink . I've heard others had the same problem with having it face north and tree interference being a problem . Enjoy your videos . Keep plugging away .

    I have had mobile Starlink for about 2 years now. I have used in all the western states and have had no problems. I love the fact that you get to have phone service where there is none. I love my Starlink I wouldn't be with out it. There is a video from a guy that modified the regular dish and flat mounted it on his roof and it works perfectly. I don't have mine on a permanent mount I like to be able to move it if I need to.

    Nice. Congrats. I got mine for the exact same reasons. However, I tried the standard dish first, even converted it to 12V, but in the end decided to up the game with the HP dish. So.Much.Better. I should have done it in the first place, but oh well. I also carry a T-Mobile Home Internet for $50/month with me. It is less power hungry than Starlink and I use it when I have a strong cellphone signal.

      @thewaywedidit  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! We went back and forth btw the two, but we agree with you the convenience of it being permanently mounted and being able using it while on the move is definitely a game changer. Was it easy to convert it to 12V? We’ve been seeing more and more people talking about doing it, and are wondering how it works and how much energy it saves.

      @@thewaywedidit The HP dish is not a good option to do a 12V conversion. I did this on the regular dish before upgrading to the HP dish. However, for the HP dish I ditched the Starlink router and replaced it with an GL.iNet GL-MT3000 wifi router. It is a travel router, much smaller, much more functionality and WIFI 6. It also uses a bit less power compared to the SL router.

      It all depends on where you want to travel and be connected. Our AT&T and Verizon hotspots worked great near town, but Starlink let’s us stay and work in remote spaces. Good luck!

      Good eye! That’s Ted! He’s technically an air freshener, but I got him bc he’s cute 🥰 Ted has kinda turned into our rig mascot, I’ll have to introduce him in our next video!
      And our Ford is still going strong! We’ve had no issues so far and the new storage around Hatch’s loft is working out great!

    would be helpful to see the whole roof, location and direction of the dish. 😢

    • @thewaywedidit
      @thewaywedidit  5 месяцев назад +1

      Sorry about that! We’re still pretty new to all this 😅 We mounted our Starlink behind the AC unit on the backside of the roof. And with the Flat High Performance Satellite, having a clear view of the sky is more important than the direction. Hope that helps!

    are you concerned about someone stealing it?

    • @thewaywedidit
      @thewaywedidit  6 месяцев назад +1

      No not really. You can’t see it from the ground, and it’s secured to the mount with thread lock. It’ll be way easier for someone to steal the free standing satellite than ours.
