    I wish I had watched this show when I was a kid. Finding out about it later was an experience where I found a new show to cherish for its unique style with its art style and the use of puppets.

    Yes! Someone else who grew up with Care Bears! You NEED to do a video about the shows! Maybe separate videos for each different series?

    Back in my childhood, I used to watch a lot of Canadian cartoons dubbed to Spanish (since that was the main content of the "educational TV" channel I used to watch back then). I do remember this show, as well as the Donkey Kong Country cartoon. There were a lot of other detective-themed cartoons, although I don't remember which ones were done by Teletoon or other Canadian producers. There was The Untouchables of Elliot Mouse, Fennec, and one other cartoon about a detective mouse whose name I don't remember (it was not the Disney one).

    Dog City was one of my favourite shows when I was a kid. I watched it on Global all the time. I was born in 1986, and I was six, almost seven when I started watching it. I thought it was cool that Jim Henson did the puppetry for it. I don't remember exactly when I stopped watching it, but it was definitely before it started playing on YTV, because I only remember watching it on Global. I don't remember how I discovered it even. It was just on one day. Thanks for covering it!

    This is the only video I can find that talks about Dog City, and I couldn't be happier with how you reviewed it! I'm also someone who watched it recently (2 weeks ago, to be exact), and I didn't expect to find the show to be so enjoyable on many levels. I especially love Eliot and his tribulations as an animator, and I find myself relating to him as an artist myself, albeit not a professional animator. I'm also really glad to see someone appreciating Baron as a character, and it's such a shame that he's sidelined as a comic relief extra with little screentime. Moreover, it genuinely feels that the show has a lot of potential, which makes season 3 all the more jarring to watch through. Seriously, what on Arf are they doing, and why is Ace okay with it all? At least Baron himself got some more love during those 8 episodes, with one where his plan succeeds no less.
    I'm honestly shocked that there's so little discussion out there about the show. I feel like it's unique enough to stand out, and Eliot's segments speak to any creative out there struggling with their craft. The finale itself got me feeling bittersweet not just for seeing the characters I got to know say goodbye, but watching Eliot not wanting to let go of something he cherished so dearly. In a sardonic way, I'm thankful that the last few episodes were so hogwash because they cushioned the blow of the ending.
    On a side note, even though I'd love to see more from the show, I don't entirely agree with rebooting it. Even ignoring the fact that reboots themselves don't always land, Dog City feels like the product of a time where hand-drawn animation and puppetry were all the rage. In my eyes, this show feels like a period piece with a je ne sais quoi that cannot be replicated in this day and age, and that goes for a lot of media that came out at the time. With that said, I'm more than happy with where it stands for now, even if it got shafted by the last season. A comic spinoff would be fantastic, though... hmmm...

    This vid mad me actually look up Dog City, and while watching it I found some of the voices oddly familiar. After some research I found out why: Kitty and Frisky are voiced by Tabitha St. Germain and James Rankin respectively, who also voiced Wendy and Larry (or Kootie Pie and Cheatsy as they were called) in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. That's how you know this is high class art.

    I wonder whether or not the Elliott-Ace dynamic was in anyway inspired by the play City of Angels, where there are two plots that follow a noir novelist and his book.

    If Dog City ever got a reboot, they could have it where Elliott is a Computer Cartoonist who developed Ace as an A.I. program that he can interact with in real life, not only could Ace be able to assist in making cartoons, but he could even travel through the Internet & appear on any Wifi device and talk with other people in the real world, like if Elliott is having a problem Ace could help him out by talking to one of his friends on their phones or something, sounds like a decent way to bring Dog City into the 21st Century.

    I now know it was Canadian and that is why I loved the TV show Dog City the animated version / cartoon version with puppetry! Which I loved the storyline in the first two seasons and come season 3 that's when Dog City the t.v. show went down hill and lost what was so great in season 1 and 2! Which there was an episode of Dog City in I think Season 2 or 3 where the show was going to be done and there was nothing left!

    Hey there Malik, I’ve watched many of your videos and I’m glad you’re a more positive reviewer. I have a sound theory for the change in season 3. John Van Bruggen was only on the first two seasons and it’s possible that assistant director, Dave Pemberton took over and wanted more family comedy than the noir vibe, as looking at his IMDb credits, he was on the Ace Ventura cartoon. It’s not concrete, but I’m sure it’s the easiest answer I can give you.

    • @TheCartoonGamer8000
      @TheCartoonGamer8000  Год назад

      Yeah, that’s what I deduced as well. I got in contact with Pemberton but he respectfully didn’t seem like he wanted to talk much about it, suggesting I speak to Van Bruggen instead. Ah well.

I’ve never even heard of this show or Bob and Margaret, but I’m always down to watch your videos. Also I wanted to add that the only other example of season 2 of a cartoon getting a different intro that I can think of is Jimmy Two Shoes, funnily enough that’s another Canadian cartoon.     I watched Dog City on Global as a teen as they came out;
    they do share that witty writing that some 90’s Disney cartoons had

    Even though i like the show I don't think it would be good to own on dvd. Adult Jokes should not be in a show aimed towards Kids. It does say youth seven years or older which means this show would probably be better suited for kids older than 7.
