My all time favorite trilogy in gaming. Got DKC for Christmas in 94 when I was 7 and I was hooked. Some of my favorite childhood memories playing co-op with my brother.

    This was amazing.
The DKC Trilogy is the reason why i fell in love with video game music. DKC was the first video game soundtrack i ever downloaded.
Whenever a song pops on in work from any of the 3 games, it always puts a smile on my face.
DKC2 is my favourite of the trilogy personally, was also my first snes game.

I remember when the first game came out, my dad bought it for me and the whole drive home I read through the whole manual, pointing out every detail to him, it's one of my absolute favorite memories of my dad and I. Thank you for this wonderful nostalgia trip!

Still one of my favorite videogame franchises of all time! I still remember the first time I played DKC - it was the summer of '95 and I was seven (about to turn eight), and my family decided to head to the beach to hang out with one of my father's work associates, I know him as "Rabbit" because that was his nickname they gave him on the job site (no one ever said why, I assumed it was because he was quick at his job), who rented a beach house for his family every summer and the day we went over there, Rabbit's kids had an SNES and they were playing Donkey Kong Country! At that point, the only games I had played were Mario games on the NES my dad owned (Super Mario Bros., SMB 2, SMB 3), Duck Hunt, and the Track Meet game that came bundled with the crinkly plastic mat... so seeing the advanced graphics of DKC was just absolutely mindblowing to a 7yo! I just quietly sat behind them, peering over the big kids shoulders and watching them play when one of them turned to me and asked, "You wanna try?" I don't remember what my reaction was besides being nervous, but I must have said yes, because the next thing I knew I had the controller in my hands and the big kids were excitedly showing me how to play. They had me start on the first level "Jungle Hijinx" and I managed to get through it no problem, but immediately died to one of the army dillo enemies on the second level! It didn't matter though because the big kids were quick to cheer me up by telling me, "Wow! Good job! You did great! I died the first time I played the previous level, so you did a lot better than me!" - which I always thought was cool of them to do! But after playing the first level, I was hooked and knew what I would be asking Santa to get me for Christmas! Lo and behold, when Christmas 1995 rolled around, I found this massive heavy box under the Christmas Tree with my name on it, and eagerly tore into it to see a Super Nintendo bundled with Donkey Kong Country staring back at me!
I still have fond memories of playing DKC2, and just stopping the game and watching Diddy and Dixie's idle animations, specifically so I could listen to "Mining Melancholy" and soak in the atmosphere of the mine levels on Crocodile Isle! Another favorite memory I have is that I learned my first ever cheat code through my older cousins for DKC. It was the 50 Lives cheat that you would enter in on the Erase game feature by typing in (B) button (A) button (R) button (R) button (A) button (L) button - and you knew you did it right if you heard the little jingle that would play when you discovered a bonus area or bonus barrel in game! I'm sure that might sound silly or stupid to some people, but it was special to me because I didn't get to see my cousins very often (only during summer and Christmas vacations, as they lived out in Texas and around this time they were in the process of moving from Texas to Cairo, Egypt because my uncle was some kind of geophysicist and worked for British Petroleum at the time) and playing these videogames was how we bonded, so learning this cheat was like learning this secret that only the big kids knew, and my cousins sharing it with me - in my mind, was them deeming me cool enough to pass this knowledge onto. Plus I was an eight year old kid that had no idea what they were doing and needed all the help I could get with playing these videogames! (My father taught me how to play SMB 1 when I was 4 or 5, but when the SNES was released and we got DKC, the technology had surpassed his knowledge and even _he_ found it to difficult to keep up with so I kinda had to teach myself and my younger brother at the same time.)
Now that I'm 35 (turning 36 in July), I love watching any RUclips videos dedicated to this series that I literally grew up with because it absolutely warms my heart to see that there are other people out there that love it just as much as I do - which didn't seem like it was the case for a good long while, and after DK64, The Kong Family seemed to fade from everyone's collective conscious in favor of Mario, and The Legend of Zelda franchises. Nowadays I'll turn on a DKC longplay in the background while I'm doing something like cleaning, or cooking, and for the last several months I will actually turn on a ten-hour loop of a DKC track (sometimes it's "Aquatic Ambience", sometimes it's "Stickerbush Symphony", sometimes it's "Mining Melancholy" and I definitely feel like a kid again, sometimes it's "Forest Interlude") and have it softly playing while I sleep. These games hold such a special place in my heart, and I can't wait until my niece is old enough that she can play videogames, because I would love to share this trilogy with her.

I played the first DKC game back in 2003, I didn’t play it’s sequels until 2009, but it was an experience I’ll never forget, as one of my life defining moments, well that, playing Mario as my first game on my GBA at the age of 4 in 2001, watching some fantastic shows on Cartoon Network throughout 2007 well before the May 2010 rebranding, and me getting into PAW Patrol when it changed my life at the age of 18 in 2015.

It’s an incredible trilogy. You really cannot say that you’re a Nintendo fan unless you complete all three each one is very very very special. For example, the secret passcode to let you do the Christmas themed bonus levels in part three or wrinkly Kong playing the Nintendo, 64 Mario’s music in the background that’s so genius.

6:27 When I was little, I similarly thought the Bullet Bill's fist was his eye, and also that his actual eye was just more shine detail.
My first experience with the DKC games was with the GBA release of Donkey Kong Country 3, which I remember getting some point between the release of Chicken Little, and my 6th birthday. With this particular release being my first exposure to the DKC trilogy, I was a bit confused when I didn't see Donkey Kong on the boxart, nor the game itself (I didn't get far back then, playing until I got stuck at Murky Mill), as my only prior exposure to DK was in Melee, Jungle Beat, and he and Diddy's appearances in Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Mario Power Tennis, Double Dash and Mario Superstar Baseball. Wasn't until the Wii Virtual Console came around that I tried out the other games (and DKC3 again, where I was introduced with its original soundtrack... I'll always have a nostalgic soft spot for DKC3's GBA soundtrack, though I nowadays mostly prefer the music of the SNES original), and finally sparked my love for the series. Seeing Donkey Kong Country Returns at E3 2010 made me happy, and Tropical Freeze was the first game ever that I beat in a single session. To this day I've yet to beat any of the original three, only getting as far as World 4 in each game, coincidentally enough.
Speaking of handheld Donkey Kong games and preferring previous incarnations, Diddy Kong Pilot... I still remember when RareWareCentral's GBA proto dumps from late-2011 were brand new, and I cherished them all. I played DKP '03 as I waited for the 2001 build to crop up, which luckily it did in January 2013, and I perhaps loved that version even more. I even let it play its autodemos on my Windows XP laptop when I used to do homeschool work, as I listened to the soundtrack of the 2005 film Water, on my ex-mom's iPad.
I prefer the 2003 version to Banjo-Pilot, though I still would've loved to see what the 2001 version would've looked like as a finished game. It wasn't until TCRF added them to their article for DKP '01, that I noticed this version had more than just one music track in the files, and admittedly I feel kinda robbed... I think my favorite track from the game is "three_haunted_tune_006"; Gives me heavy Crash Bandicoot vibes, almost like a boss battle in Cortex Strikes Back.

DKC holds such a big place in my heart! we both share a first gaming experience with the kong! mine was DK64, i dont think i played the Country games until 2005, i was stuck in the hospital but they had a rollout SNES with 1 and 2 and despite some very limited wrist movement due to an IV it left a strong impression !! Honestly, I'll still say DKC3 is the best in the bunch to me, mainly because I enjoyed exploring more in it than in the others. I heard several people say DKC3 has the worst bonus level locations but DKC has the worst while DKC2 has the most cryptic. Like TCG8000 I had to look up guides for DKC2 cause it used a LOT of walls you can just pass through with some of them not even giving you a hint you can do it. DKC3 had the best overworld too as you could freely explore it as long as you beat the levels. No more needing Funky flights to leave a world, you can just leave it. Plus finding the banana bird locations had always got me gitty. Took me and my big brother over a month to realize you had to give the mirror to one of the bears and in reverse he tells you where the BB was in King K Rool's world. And finding the hint to unlock the secret world. To me it was just the best of the trilogy.

I had a weird history with these three games:
When I first got a Game Boy Advance, one of the first games I played on it was Donkey Kong Country. Back then, I didn’t know this game along with the other 2 games in the original trilogy were ports since I was only 7, I was just getting into gaming and had no access to the internet outside of school, so I genuinely thought the games were original to the GBA. Later on in the mid-2000s, when I went with my family to a Swap Meet, I found something that caught my eye: an old VHS tape which featured Donkey Kong hanging from the Nintendo logo surrounded by trees. I managed to convince my dad to buy it for me since we still had a working VHS player at home at the time. I popped it in and saw that it was a promotional video for the first Donkey Kong Country on SNES released by Nintendo Power back in the 90s. Needless to say I was pretty surprised to learn that the first GBA game I ever played, along with its sequels, were a bit older than I thought.

I grew up with DKC2 and DKC3, but my copy of DKC2 was faulty and when you turn off the console your save was gone so I played mostly the first two worlds, once tried to go farther but swamp and beyond for me were no fun, I remember getting to the castle and was just so tired and frustrated that promised myself to never try to finish it again, like I still see it as a great game but really dislike the difficulty of it, but just looking at some of the levels brings back the frustration and I stop having any motivation to continue, the bramble levels are miserable like sorry but can't see them as good levels at all especially the barrel one, that one is pure misery.
DKC3 copy at least wasn't faulty so played it a lot more did some 100% with no guides and bothering my mother a lot so she translate the bears, bothered her so much that she gave me as a present a portuguese-english dictionary with pictures, loved that thing and used it a lot to understand games, and even did some translations on my own with terrible grammatical errors. But for me I feel that is a better game than the other two in the designing of the levels and bonuses stages, like yes have some bad ones but for the most part you don't need a guide, and I loved exploring the overworld and found the puzzles a nice change of pace too and like I understand is a platformer so isn't a necessity and many players disliked them, but I really liked the bears made the world feel more alive.

The first game is the most innovative and was ground-breaking for its time, the second game is the best in the series due to its atmosphere (and is also my favorite), and the third is the most complete and well-polished (and has the best overworld map). After DKC2, I'd choose DKC3 to play over DKC any time due just to it's variety in gameplay. I will say, however, that DKC's soundtrack is my favorite of the three.

Always knew about DKC2 and would often go to the game section of Zellers just to check out the box art (never noticed the baseball bat!), but didn't get to play it until 2014. Instantly fell in love. Still my favourite non-VR game (RE7VR takes the cake). DKC3 has never really jelled with me, always just made me want to play the first two.
If I'm not mistaken, I saw an interview with David Wise where he said the level unique jingles in DKC2 were just happy accidents caused by hardware limitations. Basically, he had to use the stage's unique soundset to recreate it each time because there wasn't enough memory to keep the sound range consistent throughout the game.
Also, I play bramble scramble to relax 😅

3 DKC2 because diddy and Dixie we're pretty much the same character they were both lightweights I like how they did it in the first and third game but the first game will always be my favorite is the only game Donkey Kong is playable

Dkc3 will always be my favorite. I'll never understand why it's always everyone's least favorite. Ok, kiddy Kong sucks. But I love the levels, music, over world, brothers bear, and all the collectibles. Sorry had to stand up for poor number 3.

2>3>1 for me. And for me, the original being the worst just shows the quality of the trilogy.
For Land and GBA ports, then it's 3>2>1.

It always fascinates me when I hear how people say they pretty much exclusively play Diddy in the series. In DKC1 I stick to DK and in 2 and 3 I use Dixie unless otherwise forced.

As much as DKC Returns and Tropical Freeze are great games, they always rub me the wrong way since I love the original trilogy so much. The Full-on 3D scenarios don't look as interesting as games like Rayman Origins for example, that go with multiple layers of hand-made drawings and paintings - which to me look more in line with the original DKC games. Also not being able to control Diddy, Dixie etc on their own in single-player mode is the most perplexing to me.

So... 23:08. I can't tell if it's in purpose or not, but this seems plagiarized from The Geek Critique's original video on DKC3. Is this true or a misunderstanding? It doesn't feel like it since you use the same terms, timing, and seemingly similar clips.

    • @TheCartoonGamer8000
      @TheCartoonGamer8000  6 месяцев назад +1

No. Geek Critique is not the only person to talk about this mechanic, or use the term "Aha" when figuring out a tough puzzle. The clip used is also from one of the more memorable instances of getting the coin, and I wanted to show off getting it in the unintended way. Not to mention the wording is completely different. Talking about the same thing is not plagiarism.
