It's so interesting hearing how Canadian dubbing companies were more respectful to the source material being Japanese than 4kids was. I used to LOVE Medabots, but I totally forgot how much it embraced its Japanese settings and didn't try to rename stuff or pretend they were in the USA.
Also we seem to be much more slack with ratings and mature content here. The G rating here meant the show was for kids yeah, but that didn't mean it wasn't going to explore mature topics that are valuable to teenagers. I think things like that are important to be talked about in a tasteful way so kids can have a better understanding of the world as they grow.
Man, I remember seeing Superbad in theatres, since it was rated 14+ here. But in the US? A hard R rating. I think american companies and government are a little overprotective when it comes to letting younger kids see sensitive content. The 6Teen episodes that didn't air in the US is a good example of that.

Nitro Rad Yeah, while I say 4Kids did have its moments of retaining Japanese stuff (like certain songs from Pokemon, etc.), Canadian stuff seemed much more comfortable with the foreign stuff, and it really went a long way. Same for mature stuff, that G rating really did stand for a general audience, pretty much meaning anybody could watch it - kids included, but not JUST for kids.
I recently learned that when it comes to airing mature content in Canada, we can air pretty much anything at almost any time on TV because of the viewer advisories that pop up after EVERY commercial break, as opposed to the States that does just one at the start of the show. I think because we don’t sugarcoat it, we’re a lot more lenient.

That's not entirely true, as the Nelvana dub for Cardcaptors was awful. It changed so much from the original to market it as an action show for a male demographic, cutting half the episodes leaving the ones with only action, changing the relaxing orchestral score for American synth tracks, changing all the Japanese names to American ones, and the voice acting....oh god the horrible voice acting.
It took years for them to loose the rights to the series by Nelvana so another company by the name of Animax Asia could make a better English dub without the changes in 2014. Considering how this was their first-ever anime, they had no clue what they were doing and just went out of their way to make it as palpable for American audiences, but that costed Cardcaptors not receiving a proper dub for over a decade and a half.

Some of them I grew out of, and others I haven't seen in a while.

Clone High is one of the best Canadian shows I've ever seen. I even have the DVD of the only season they were able to make. I only saw one of episode of it when it was on MTV, but I was dying of laughter when I finally saw it years later, which was probably a good thing since it's a very teen/adult show.

Assorted Yvon of the Yukon thoughts:
This was one of my favourite shows on YTV growing up. I normally am dismissive on CanCon because the low quality as a result of its existence being the law while the best creators move to the States, but Yvon was iconic.
That Canada Day 2005 thing where Yvon hung out with (Being) Ian's family in between episodes of those shows' marathons was the first time I was concious of there being a crossover and I ate that shit up.
I still love that Mountie being told he's mad and asking with a tone of genuine concern if Tommy means "angry mad or crazy mad" and I still refer to "ze powere tewels" in normal conversation. Nobody, not even the brothers and dister I watched with, get it.
I feel twinges of frustration every day that the complete series isn't readily available. It's one of the things I want most in my life.

Speaking of Obscure Canadian Dubbed Anime. There's one called Project ARMS, it stars Ocean Group VAs such as Kirby Morrow, Venus Terzo, Brian Drummond, Brad Swaile, Nicole Oliver etc. Where it was about a couple of Japanese teenagers learning they have been implanted with nanomachine bioweapons for limbs that they lost from accidents when they were children, and having to survive and fight back against an secret organization called the Egregori. Even going as far as traveling across America later on in the series. It was also heavily influenced from Alice in Wonderland, where their ARMS are named after Alice in Wonderland characters such as Jabberwock, White Knight, White Rabbit, Queen of Hearts etc. And there is even an character introduced later in the series named Alice. Shame the Anime never got to the manga's final arc and ending as the Manga it was based off of was finishing up in Japan back in 2002. Hence the anime made some liberties later on in it's 2nd Season called The 2nd Chapter.

I swear Yvon of the Yukon has one of the catchiest themes ever. I can't remember too much of the show itself but the theme? Yup.

After seeing this, you make me want to watch Dragon Ball! I'm playing Dragon Quest 11 right now, and the artist from Dragon Ball also made the art of Dragon Quest. I love the character designs so much.

I've watched alot of tv and most of these shows did air in the Netherlands we used to get alot of european/canadian shows but we also got all the american stuff so we pretty much had all the perks. I was suprised to see Urban vermin since I do not know the Dutch name of it. And I've never found it again until now I guess.

I would love to see a volume 3 on this series covering Martin mysteries, moville mysteries, mona the vampire, Jacob two two and other great things of early YTV. They really abandoned the be weird slogan and it's sad to see.

oOhhh No way! I thought Urban Vermin was a fever dream. I remember watching Bionix a good bit and immediately falling in love with Inuyasha, I started and lost track with the show when it initially aired. And it is a real shame that our output has been on the decline with kids shows I'm afraid are just not being the same with re-runs as to appease an audience that is growing tired of it. Now a small list of shows you might not have taken a look at:
Grossology: a show about 2 teenage agents fighting of things with science.
Cyberchase: aired on PBS and had Gilbert Gottfried as a bird, lots of math.
Flying Rhino Junior High: watch the intro, it is way catchier than it should have any right to be.
George Shrinks: a simple show with frankly some nice jazz every now and then.
Barbar: The early 2D one as the 3D reboot(?) was a bit odd from what I remember.
A Tale of Redwall: I'm surprised I still recognized it when looking around but man this show was intense at times.
Dragon Tales: It was the show that introduced me to dragons... I thank it for that.
Wibbly Pig: I remember catching its intro and a few episodes, lovely art style.
7 Little Monsters: I don't hear many people talk about it, a decent show with a jamming intro.
Grounding Marsh: Hard to find but, the intro is still up on RUclips, puppets still look solid.
Pipi Longstocking: I remember the intro so clearly that I sadly never got to watch the show.
Potatoes and Dragons: Wacky, simple, funny for what I remember, as much as I hate potatoes.
Stoked: Similar to 6Teen but a slightly more fluent design, hard to describe but I think its the same crew.
Nightmare Ned: A show that got me alone with the intro, hard to find but there is a game.
Mystery Hunters: The one show that I thank the most for reinvigorating my curiosity with life and science in general.
There was a lot going around when I grew up, some bad, others average or forgettable but, I'm glad I experienced them one way or the other.

My. God. it's like you lived my childhood. I thought I was the only one who watched Treehouse TV when I was a kid (I thought NO ONE would remember Rosabelle and Tansy) and then gradually started YTV as I got older (Sugar and Carlos are still the best hosts the Zone ever had). This video just brought back a rush of good memories for me. Big Comfy Couch, Ruby Gloom, Being Ian, I could go on. Kind of wish you talked a bit about Martin Mystery though, probably one of my definitive favorite shows whenever it came on YTV, I still watch episodes of it from time to time on RUclips.

I grew up in the USA but Totally Spies, The Amazing Spies, and Martin Mystery were all big parts of my childhood and finding out they were made by the same studio, and part of a shared universe, blew my mind as a kid because the Spies aired on Cartoon Network down here but Martin aired on Nicktoons Network (where Nickelodeon dumps the shows they have no faith in). Honestly it’s a shame that Canada has such a poor reputation now because I watched a lot of Nicktoons Network when the main channel was airing nothing but live action sitcoms, and looking back a lot of them were Canadian, and I remember a lot of them very fondly.

I can remember watching the first episode of 6teen on Teletoon. I was visiting my Greek grandmother and my parents came in to see what I was watching. The moment they saw the scene in the pilot episode where the taco girl spits in the food, my parents were so disgusted they forbid me or my siblings from watching it. (Still totally did though).

I effing *love* Toronto's voice acting pool, for they are quite underrated and we need more dubs from them.
Also, Magi-Nation is to me as Urban Vermin is to you, a show nobody ever discusses.
Magi-Nation is a Canadian-Korean show that was also tryna be the next Pokémon but was a poor adaptation of the card game it was based on....which came out seven years prior. It's not bad as its own thing though. Not many episodes came out on DVD but it can all be found on RUclips.

One of my favourite Being Ian episodes is Hockey Night In Burnaby. I was actually born in Burnaby and spent a lot of time there as a kid, riding the Deer Lake carousel and of course the SkyTrain. After the train leaves Edmonds Station it passes by the operation and maintenance centre where all the trains are maintained and that’s a cool thing to look at. Anyways, Hockey Night In Burnaby involves Ian and his pals trying to save the organ that plays during Canucks home games in Rogers Arena (back then called GM Place), while Ian’s brothers try out for the role of the Canucks’ mascot (who’s just an anthropomorphic puck in the show while the real mascot is an orca named Fin). It’s hilarious and it even features the song Good Old Hockey Game, which used to be played on CBC before NHL hockey games started

Of course I remember and love 6Teen! Yvon I don't think I watched but you have me curious.
Being Ian though! I kept seeing clips of it throughout and was desperately trying to remember the name. I'm certain I watched that. :)
And don't worry Pikachu you're as cute as Hamtaro ;)
Metabots also sounds hilarious. Never heard of it. :)
I never watched InuYasha or Dragon ball growing up. But I've become a pretty huge fan of InuYasha's manga as of late mainly through another anime by the same author called Ranma, also dubbed in Canada funly enough. Though I never watched it on Canadian TV. Might have been a bit before my time.

TheCartoonGamer8000 Speaking as someone who lives in the country beneath you guys, I can say that some of those shows you mentioned like Stickin' Around, Reboot, Cybersix, 6teen, Being Ian, Martin Mystery, Captain Flamingo, Jacob Two-Two, and even Total Drama (the entire series from Island to All-Stars / Pahkitew Island) did manage to come over to our TV screens, too.
Oh, and if I may say so... you guys managed to take a 1980s toy property and somehow managed to make it into something engaging. (Hint: It isn't the series about transforming vehicle robots from another planet).
To that, I say... thank you and bless every single one of you from the Great White North.
