HERESY
Yes inquisitor, this one here.
HERETICS
BRICKY’S A GENE-CULTIST?! I KNEW IT!!! BURN THE ABOMINATION IN HOLY FIRE!!!
He has been consorting with the Ruinous Powers!
Mechanicus : We upgraded ourselves to become more metal than flesh
Necrons : *I want my flesh back :(*
that techno-gothic music is just perfect for mechanicus
*Happy Dragon Noises*
Darktide and Chaosgate: Daemonhunters are also cool videogames.
And the CRPG Rogue Trader by Owlcat Games (Pathfinder: Wrath of the Rightgeous) is very promising as well.
No they just want their souls back, guess they never made it back to their bloodstains.
flayed ones: MY FLESH! YOU HAVE MY FLESH! GIVE IT BACK!
Fun fact about Necrons speaking english in Mechanicus: they have a **universal** translator, which is translating the Necrontyr language into a language **the player** understands. That's how advanced the Necrons are!
They have a translator, to be able to talk to aliens, just to tell them they are going to die in their language….that’s metal as hell
I'd LOVE to be able to speak and understand any language!
Funny how Event Horizon is literally unintentionally a movie about a ship doing a Warp jump without a Gellar field.
Not unintentional, the writers were inspired by 40k
And also the ship was designed to look like a cathedral
It's the unofficial origin of the Occurrence Border. Think about it, the ship whose front end is missing from the "Discount Starship" chapter of "The All Guardsman Party".
The movie should’ve been called Space Hulk
What's a Geller field

Inquisitor Martyr is a warhammer hidden gem for those who like arpgs it has a cool story and many different enemies to fight.
Definitely this. It wasn't great at launch, but by now, it's a really solid ARPG in its own right. Most importantly, the overall WH40K feel has been nailed on perfectly.
You. I like you.
Inquisitor is the perfect bump up of powerscale from Darktide. You're not on the peak powerscale of a space marine but you're way more powerful than your standard guardsman. Hell, in darktide you're basically on an Inquisitor's ship the entire game and you just never see them because they're out doing other stuff.
Rogue Trader, Boltgun, Chaosgate: Daemonhunters and Shootas, Blood & Teef are awesome too!
I just bought this last week for ps4 only to find out it requires wifi to play, I cant afford wifi lmao. I was heartbroken when i booted it up.
“We have the dawn of war games, I decided to combine the two of them...” *dawn of war 3 raises its head*
Dawn of war 3 ??
Nah bro they never made a 3rd game you silly lmao.
We don't speak of that heresy
DoW 3? Never heard of it: it doesn't exist.
What are you talking about? There are only 2 DoW games.
The fall of Cadia?
Cadia never fell, it lives in the heart of every single cadian soldier.
Cadia stand!
The planet broke before the guard did!

Just like Tanith...
Cadians Never Die
The war cry of the cadians echoes to this day
The Mechanicus game got me thinking about what Trazyn said to Cawl about the similarities between tech-priests and Necrons: They both lost what made them relatable to their species, except tech-priests willingly carved away bits of their humanity and relatively healthy body, which the Necrons would've killed to have. I wonder if Trazyn was a little bitter about it.
I don't know if that's true or not, but it would make sense that out of all Imperium factions, Necrons would hate AdMech the most. You know, sort of in a way that normal person looks at an idiot that has no idea what he's doing and is just too stupid to realize anything.
Mechanicus is awesome. I would love to see a expanded version or sequel that includes new campaigns and races to play as.
Imagine the sequel has you sometimes playing the Eldar, trying to prevent the Mechanicus from exploring another Necron Tomb, all the while fighting off Necrons already awakened by the Mechanicus' expedition.
But then, you, as the Mechanicus, slay one of the major Necron Lords of one if the Tomb Worlds you'll be playing on. And the Eldar's psychic vision changes a bit. Mechanicus troops in the Eldar campaign get the upgrades you get in the Mechanicus campaign, slowly but surely turning the nigh-helpless Ranger into a powerhouse who can disable your weapon attacks and bypass your defenses, and the Vanguard getting that neat Double Attack, pretty much killing one of your soldiers in one turn if you're not careful.
And the more you advance as the Mechanicus, the more Overlords you kill, the more the Eldar's vision changes, and the end of the game, facing a Necron Phaeron, they outright fight alongside the Mechanicus forces.
Then the Eldar leave the Mechanicus to their devices and leave the system. The lower-ranking Seers keep asking how did the funny-looking Mon'Keigh change the future, while the elder Seer looks towards the Mechanicus flotilla in the distance, a faint smile on their face, and mumbles something about humans being full of surprises, while a more divine, yet also more technological version of the main theme plays quietly in the background.
@@bluethunderbolt9631 This, but I want an option to play as the NECRONS!
Rogue Trader, Boltgun, Chaosgate: Daemonhunters and Shootas, Blood & Teef are awesome too!

Me: Of course it's a Warhammer movie.
I believe even the screenwriter himself said he was inspired by Warhammer 40k.

We don't speak about Space Marine's quick time events...
Thats probably the only game where you could argue for them though.
In many 40k books, sometimes writers put in stuff like "time seemed to slow down as his armor pumped combat stims..." and so on, whenever there is an intense part of a fight.
Its kinda rare but its there, and imho fits the narrative that they are transhuman, abnormally fast warriors, so QTE is not that bad in this case.
At least thats my way of looking at things, i dont like QTE´s overall.
@@vavra222 that's a good way of looking at it
Finished the game a few weeks ago, and it felt quite outdated. And that ending battle... Fuck that.
@@CelticAkumathefirst Its still fun in my opinion but that's probably because theres no other game where you brutally murder aliens as a Space Marine
I beat the game a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. But I can only remember one QTE - the one in the final boss fight. The fight looks pretty cool so I didn't hate the QTE at all.
“Holy shit. What in the name of fucking Terra on roller skates is this?”

1 year later and we actually have a few fantastic new 40k games with 40k Galdius being a super fun 4X game, 40k Battlesector is a fun if not simple Blood Ravens vs Tyranids game, hell Necromunda Hired Gun is fun if not a bit janky and he'll even Inquisitor is a fun diablo style game. One of the absolute best video game openings ever.
24:06 "the Necrons are fleshed out" oh no! Flayers!
They appear in the game, though.
So happy you mentioned how good the Writing is in the seven games (Minus perhaps Soulstorm). The Voice Acting and Dialogue is so God damn awesome and the characters are so memorable. Sindri, Kyras, Eliphas, Gabriel, Isador, Gorgutz, Bludfflagg and Macha are major stand outs. Also, the Music is absolutely fantastic.
As far as “warhammer movies” go, I think it would have better to call out Hellsreach. It’s definitely long enough to be considered a movie.
Yeah where tf is hellsreach
Why the fuck is Helsreach better known as a fan-movie than as the novel and audiobook which the fan movie was animated onto?
@@N0-1_H3r3 because, the fan film is fucking fantastic, and a near perfect adaptation of the book.
Fucking a!
helsreach is the best
You might want to check out Inquisitor: Martyr. It's a pretty solid diablo-like. It had a rough start but the devs actually put a lot of work into redesigning the game and making it better.
Got it on Xbox Live, pretty fun to just spend some time shootin and slashin through some levels.
I just bought it like 2 days ago. I'm really enjoying it, honestly. Some things could be better but I still am really looking forward to playing it every day
It use to have a pretty solid and dedicated contributor community that all got curb stomped by a power tripping dev who took issue with how they felt the development was going and ended up kicking like 12 of them off twitch and 20 of them off steam forums. Was a pretty dark day.
@@TheChivGaming dang man, that sucks. Sometimes a single person with a big ego can ruin things for a huge amount of people.
No item variety tho :(
Glad you picked out the soundtrack to Mechanicus, I listen to it most days when I am painting. The game picks out the madness of the 40k setting perfectly. I hope they make a follow-up game someday.
Theyre making a follow up game
Dawn of War: Dark Crusade was My childhood. Loved every minute of playing it. Replayed the whole campaign last year for the 1st time in 10 or so years and loved it
I think in media you could also add Helsreach animation adaptation. It was made by guy called Richard Boylan who I believe is now employed by games workshop as a director of their animation angels of death. Main plot is about Black Templars Chaplin Grimaldus leading a defence of Hive city Helsreach against horde of orks on planet Armageddon. Voice acting might be a bit off and his animation has quite unique art style. I wouldn't recommend it if you are getting into warhammer but otherwise its a great watch.
I actually never got around to seeing it. I think I'll do that now

So glad you put Mechanicus at number 1. I was just getting into the whole 40k universe (thanks in part to your 2 videos on 40k factions) and I was looking for a good game to sink my teeth into. Looked around and tried a few but they all seemed a bit meh. Then my bro gifted Mechanicus to me on Steam and from the moment I saw that intro I was hooked. What a gem.
Now we're getting into tabletop, he ordered orks, I ordered Mechanicus and we're both broke! Fun times ahead.
25:55 your comparison of the humanity of the Necrons compared to the Mechanicus puts me in mind of something that Trazyn said to Cawl.
"I went to my bio transference in chains, you, on the other hand, you went more than willingly."
Gladias - Relics of War is pretty solid too. Not sure it's the "best thing ever" but it's a pretty streamlined 4x game where different factions really do play differently. Looking at you civ 6. I've put over a hundred hours into it and I keep coming back to it.
Yeah gladius is alright not the best not the worst
+1 for Gladius. The fact that it focus's on the exterminate part of 4x makes for some enjoyable war mechanics.
Necromunda is also good, although it was a bit buggy at release.
As a Jojo and Warhammer fan, when I saw those FABULOUS custodies I died laughing on my floor, this was such a great choice to make them this way
DOW I and its following expansions cannot be beat, the RTS nature of the games plays so well into the universe. And as you mentioned, the voice acting and the story makes the campaign so enjoyable. Every few years I feel obliged to play through the whole thing.
It'd be neat to see the Total War Franchise make a game, Imagine dozens of planets with dozens of capture points (Cities, towns, etc...) on each that give you control of the planets, kind of like provinces and settlements in Total War Warhammer. With battles that you can control. That would probably be the most mega and hardcore RTS campaign ever while you try to take over the universe as Xenos or humans.

The multiplayer in Space Marine is something I look back on and miss ever so often. It’s simplicity was great and allowed for more focus on awareness and teamwork. Sound effects were also really well made, ranging from thumpy footsteps to roaring chainswords. Good times!
I hope its gonna make a big comeback with SM2
Last time I checked you can still find games and it doesn't even takes that long
Space Marine is the best 40k game by a long way! I loved DOW in the day but something that's still playable and the people miss online, SM is the only game that allows you to really play as a space marine. Mechanicus being number 1 and DOW2 getting a mention as higher uo that space marine is tragic and completely wrong! It's EPIC! And the very reason people have been campaigning for a sequel for years. That's not happened with any other game in 40k.

DoW has great voice acting. From the Space Marine bellowing "FOR...the EMPEROR" to the Guardsman's breathless "Okay. We took the objective. What now?", it's all so atmospheric. I prefer the second one because it has tactical elements instead of DoW1's just-build-a-bigger-hammer approach and because landing thirty dudes and taking a whole planet with them is exactly how Space Marines are supposed to work.

lore wise the Mechanicus usually blurt out a string of 3 different type of digitasl languages combined with normal imperial gothic over their speakers.
They just think talking is inefficient, which it is.
with boltgun and space marine 2 coming out, along with plans for a show with henry cavill, it seems like 40k is experiencing a bit of a renaissance in the cultural zeitgeist, which is great

Bricky, I'll be 100% honest bro, I only subscribed to your channel for 40k, they will most likely be the only videos of yours I watch, so thank you for the video.
I recommend the other game made by the Deathwing developers EYE Devine Cybermancy it was extremely inspired by 40k and is more of an rpg it can take a bit to go into but has a ton of options that you can explore plus there’s 32 player story co-op also if you’re looking for a 40k but totally not 40k movie watch Starship Troopers it’s basically an Imperial Guard vs Tyranids movie

A bit late to the party, but Bricky, there is a vr game called Battle Sister. It's on the Quest 2, and probably other vr systems, and it's pretty damn fun. A short campaign with separate horde mode too.
