Hi, just wanted to pop in with a basing tip! There is a product known as Play Dirt. It's like kinetic sand, but colored to look like regular dirt. I found some at a dollar store and absolutely swear by it. Mix in a little gravel or sand for some easy dimension, spread it over the glue, brush off the excess, add a pebble or bush or something, and BOOM, perfect bases every time.
This is brilliant , def have to try it, how’s the durability of it

Hey stranger, want to play together? Probably on Table top sim?
Usually the people at the store are friendly and willing to play with new people, at least when i was playing a few years ago (gonna try and get back into it), however you will always run into someone who just likes to stomp. It wasn't mentioned much in this video but there can sometimes be things that are just broken. Last year the two biggest were eldar of aloitic, which had impossible to hit flyers and iron hands space marines, literally unkillable. You take a dreadnaut put it at the front so everything shoots at it. Then put a squad with feel no pain and an apothecary behind it. Basically the dread can transfer its wounds, if they made it past the armor, to the squad which can then apply feel no pain and they can get back up thanks to the medic. They try to balance the game but there is always a cheese. Like space marine chapter master Smashf***er, which you can find on that 1d4chan site.
This video has been in my recommend for a few days now and I finally decided to watch it and was taken aback to see the shirt! Thanks for the support and shoutout and big thanks for showing other people how to get into this hobby!

Jeweler's tip for people with shaky hands :
1) Have both your hands resting on something as you work.
2) Have a contact point between your hands, directly or by both being in contact with the piece you're working on. It can be as small as the tip of a finger, but it will make a big difference.
Good advice
Thank you so much, as someone with shaky hands, this advice is greatly appreciated.

When i was like 12 my friends and i walked past a games workshop and because we were assholes, we went in thinking it'd be funny to laugh at the nerds. We each biugt a £5 box of little dudes. Painted them at home and went back every weekend for like a month. A couple of us kept going and got super into it. My mum and sister went on holiday and instead of that, my dad and me bought a bunch if stuff like third pyramid rocket ship and a tank andna bunch of dudes. We painted them over a weekend and used a big slab of wood, some green pain, and some newspapaper to make a hilly battle field. And i had a lot of fun. I played a couple battles at the shop. Stopped playing it after a while idk why. But, when i say i have 0 artistic tallent, i mean i can barely draw a passable stick man,. im surprised they didn't mention 40k theories which has a great serious called xenobiology? i think which goes over the fauna of 40k.
Tip for anyone getting into the hobby: don't buy games workshop's paints, brushes, sprue cutters, ect. GW tools can be twice the price of the exact same or better product elsewhere. Personally, I use Vallejo paints, and you can find paints from other companies which match the color of GW paints, but are cheaper. Also, in my experience, GW paints dry out in the bottle faster.
Some of their contrast paints are pretty good, and their washes are great, but absolutely, most of their paints are not even worth it.
@@JohnathanJWells Very true! GW washes are fantastic in particular.
Contrast paints are a pretty unique product and washes are good. Their terrain paints are mostly a big no (maybe that martian earth stuff), because Vallejo has great terrain material (resin paste with different sized particles) thats much cheaper. I personally use Ammo Mig brushes since my FLGS stocks them and they are like 2-3 bucks for a pretty decent and long lasting brushes. And other types of paints aint that bad, its much easier to follow official guides when names of paints match. Even though I'd mostly recommend focusing on their layer paints, since you can use them both as base and layer (works even better as base paint if you do stuff like zenithal priming), while base paints are way too thick to be used as layering/edge highlighting paints in my experience. Just my 2 cents.
I like the paints but the brush prices are stupid.
Paints are fine, everything else sucks.

jenkins all that means that hentai is on a moral high ground compared to regular porn.
I’ve always looked on in envy at those people in the back of my local comic shop and the badass miniatures on the wall facing the local sushi restaurant. I’m lucky enough to have a decent amount of disposable income during quarantine, and I hope that Marcus’s video will serve as the gateway drug that sparks an ever increasing tabletop addiction. In short thank you for giving me the push to hopefully get into a brand new hobby.
Having just gotten into it back in March (right before quarantine), I can't recommend it highly enough. Marcus hit every nail on the head about the hobby from kitbashing to playing how you want to play, choosing whatever faction looks cool, not being intimidated by painting, etc. It's sooooooo fun and satisfying to pick your army and slowly build up your force.
Yes other people place Space Marines, White Scars chapter, but no one else's White Scars will look exactly like mine, or be magnetized like mine, or have the lore that I come up for them in my head. They are my guys and they will be forged in battle once the kiss of Grandpapa Nurgle is lifted from our planet.
Don't bother. It's a scam.
@@13strong what's your war story?
@@char1363 Was into it as a teen and I saw how overpriced it was and how it hooked kids into always forking out more and more money for more and more stuff. Then they changed the metal the figures were made from and encourage people to replace their armies with that more expensive metal. Then they went almost totally plastic and did the same. It never ends and it's just a money making scheme.
I just want to point out there are a lot of ways to make it even cheaper, ebay for example. Or the less legal way molds, super easy to do but personally i would only do it if i really really want to make an cloaking effect, use a clear resin instead of the gray to make something like a lictor or assassin. There are also some totally not warhammer at all models for sale online like creature caster that makes great demon replacements.
I've watched a few painting guides, but this was the one that really brought it home that I can do this. Thanks Cosmonaut. Now time to get my hands on the first members of my space marine chapter: The Baha Boys.
This video got me into warhammer and i still come back to it every few months.
Me: I'm not interested in Warhammer.
Me during this video: I'm interested in Marcus talking about it
I'm Surprised he didn't really mention the "meme" side of 40k creators like alfabusa and how big of a thing tts is within the 40k fandom.
Yeah i would like to see What he thinks about TTS seeing MASSIVE impact on the fandom.
Been watching TTS for years, never played the game. Now I'm kinda thinking of getting into the hobby, Magnus is my fav so I might want to try the Thousand Sons.
@@michaeltodd343 Sounds Good!
Maybe he’s not really into that side of the fandom, these videos are more about sharing what he’s interested in
There are so many great memes out of the 40k universe.
i watched this vid a couple months ago and i am fully into this hobby now thx
Just bumped into this video! It's an excellent take on what Warhammer is. Nice work!
A lot of people (including Marcus) might hate this, because the models are a huge part of the game for many. However when I was younger, my older brother and his friends would play using different colored army men or index cards with the unit info written on it and a tally of the casualties. It’s a great way to get into the gameplay without spending as much. Still need the books, but it’s at least a little cheaper.
You can literally use cardboard/paper cutouts, ive seen people do it. And you can find rules online, same as with codexes (even though thats techincally not allowed). Basically, if you just wanna play the game, you can do it almost for free, or even on PC via tabletop simulator for way less money. But I honestly mostly paint stuff and thats the part I actually enjoy. And building lists is fun.
My friend group got into 7th edition Warhammer fantasy with "paperhammer," it was a great way to know what they wanted to buy before commiting
@@bombarded15 Yep, that was how i decided buy a lot of miniatures just to play a game i dont really enjoy would be a terrible mistake.
Basicly poorhammer to go. I like it.

FOR THE GREATER GOOD! This video is really great. I’ve been a 40K lurker for 5 years and a Fantasy lurker for even longer. As an unemployed broke 18 year old college student it’s been a real struggle to get into this hobby. I just got my first few models (obviously Tau) and have painted a couple, and I’m not very good but it’s fun. I wish I had friends like yours who are not only into tabletop games, but the kind of narrative campaign I’d love to play. Warhammer is seriously one of the coolest fictional universes ever, up there with Star Wars, Middle Earth, etc.
Thank you so much for this video it really inspired me and my friends to try the game and we down right love it.
Dude such a good video, definitely worth the time you put into it!
Love your videos, D!
lol his shirt in the beginning looks gud
Is it a Miniac shirt?
I’m so glad you represented snipe and wib it’s nice to see them be respected by such a big channel
This video began a journey down a rabbit hole. I’m now printing and painting minis and couldn’t be happier about it.
Ah i see your ears have been blessed aswell. "Children of the Omnissiah" is a modern masterpiece :)
More like a Mechanicus masterpiece
@@birb125 a masterpiece nonetheless
As much as I love this video, hearing a song or two from the Mechanicus soundtrack is pretty much the icing on the cake.
I may never play this game but I will listen to this man talk about anything for 30 plus minutes... you the man 🤝
A friend of mine has been wanting me to play, this video pushed me into trying it out. loving it so far.
I'm so mad I missed this video, warhammer has been my life for the longest time, seeing you get into it fully is so sick. Seriously this warhammer lore need had his day made 4 weeks late.
