      Limbo of the Lost? You're a mad man! Also - there is sequel to LotL called Hunt the Freeman, you better not waste time on it tho.
      From that list - either Arx Fatalis (RIP Arkane) or Boiling Point (remember to find patch notes, they are beyond hilarious).
      Or.... Cryostasis, JA2, PsiOps, Underrail, VtM-Bloodlines.
      Don't waste time on games that everyone know plz.

      They cut off their ears so the voices of chaos and xeno scum couldn’t distract them from the glory of the Emperor.
      However, as a consequence, they also can’t tell when they’re being shot at until they physically get hit by the projectiles.

    I think the wildest thing about Fire Warrior is the twist in its novelization; Khorne's blessed the main character Kais, thus why he's such a meatgrinder despite being a bogstandard Tau soldier he can punch _way above his weight_ and kill Chaos Marines and such like he's the goddamn Doom Slayer. At the end, Kais even screams, *"BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD.*

    The reason that the enemies constantly chime in "It's quiet" and "No activity" is actually an audio bug. They're supposed to have specific barks when they're patrolling, idle, and when an enemy is sensed nearby (many are even used as Taunts in Multiplayer, with the Chaos Marine's being the especially funny "YES, RUN! IT PLEASES ME!"), but none of them are scripted correctly and so it defaults to the idle dialogue, which is the declarations that it's quiet and there's no activity.

    the sword is actually the most OP weapon in the game. When you fight that first space marine (or any marine 1v1) run up to him, crouch in front of him. The AI cannot handle a crouching tau sized enemy and the marine will just stand there while you wail away on his shins.

    Oh man. I just discovered your channel and have been binging through it, and finding this video was just amazing for me. I was a QA tester at THQ US for the PC version of this game. We knew the whole time we were testing it that it was a pile of garbage. And your perception is correct that the project schedule was a sloppy rush. The part of the team that I was on mostly focused on testing the multiplayer, which crashed at random intervals, with no reproducible conditions we were ever able to find. The game was shipped with that issue still in. Part of what commonly happened with game testing at big studios back then was that the later in the production cycle you got, the less likely it was that the dev team would decide to fix an issue. So smaller issues like backwards textures were not even worth bringing up after a certain point, and major issues like crashes during network play were a roll of the dice. But hey, I met one of my best friends working on that project, so it wasn't a total loss. Great video!

      Second: Bolters fire at maybe 300 rpm. This is ponderously slow for what is essentially a heavy machinegun.
      Third: Long barrell handheld 20mm guns firing full pover autocannon cartridges exist. The Solothurn S18 line, and the Finnish Lahti from the 1930s and the South African Neopup from the 90s benig three examples I know of.

      @pavo6503 It was actually a magazine called Play, at the time the largest independent Playstation-centric magazine in the UK. It might still be, I don't know. Don't know if it even still exists - probably not. Obviously it was a much more important publication at the time because the internet hadn't taken over to the extent it has now. It was on the cusp, but the print medium was still very much king. The rest of the guys i worked with were very cool, some of them actually very talented writers, and good at their jobs. Then they brought this new editor in, who had somehow used management-speak (he was fluent in it) and false self promotion to get the job, despite having little relevant experience. Again, think of the monorail salesman from The Simpsons giving his sales spiel. It was a disaster, just like the monorail. His nickname (unbeknownst to him) was Zapp Brannigan. He was a real world incarnation of that character, in every way.

    • @mrbigglezworth42
      @mrbigglezworth42 6 лет назад +2

      Tau weapons are held by the Tau, who are less than ideal shots, Lasguns are held by guardsmen, who are less than ideal at living, but great at shooting. The humble Lasgun even comes in many flavors, regular stock Lasgun held by the troopers and veterans: Long-las held by snipers, Las-pistols by sargeants and anyone in command but not high enough up the ladder to afford a bolt pistol, Multi-Lasers adored by C.S Gotos the land over, and the Hot-shot Lasgun held by the Stormtroopers who actually can shoot. Tau don't start getting good at shooting until they've made it to a battle suit and even then, only the commanders have discovered the tactical advantage of "aim first, then shoot"

    • @AFnord
      @AFnord 6 лет назад +9

      Tau can aim, their problem is that they've got poor reflexes & reaction speed, compared to humans, so they can't really react to movement the same way humans do. Tau suits come with a whole lot of built in systems that are supposed to help them aim, on top of them being stabilized. Actually, regular tau fire warrior helmets also bring some aiming assistance, but not nearly to the same degree.
      Humans are just humans. The average guardsman is not as highly trained as say a modern US soldier, because why spend a long time training someone who's just going to die soon anyway? They've got numbers, they can sacrifice a few people (although that said, the quality of guardsmen varies a lot).
      Speaking of imperial weapons, GW has portrayed the lasguns to be roughly on par with their modern counterparts, they've just got logistics on their side. A lasgun can hold about 100 rounds in a single battery, and the batteries can be recharged on site, meaning that they won't have to transport a lot of ammunition (Autoguns are pretty much identical to their modern real life counterparts, and a bit easier to produce, but then you need to transport bullets, which puts more strain on the supply lines than batteries).

    • @AFnord
      @AFnord 6 лет назад +5

      It's been pointed out in some fluff that in order to make a lasgn able to fire the higher powered shots that are able to punch through armour, illegal modifications needs to be made. Some regiments chose to ignore if guardsmen do these modifications (in particular for troops that are likely to be really in the thick of it), while in others you'll end up getting executed if you modify your equipment. But it does cause a lot more wear and tear on the equipment, in particular if they're not made with high quality components (which is usually reserved for elite troops, like stormtroopers, and even then, these guns wear out a lot faster)
      As for the accuracy of lasguns, it varies a lot. While a laser in itself is accurate (when GW wants it to be...) things do get knocked out of alignment, sights might not be perfectly calibrated and so on. While you might be able to expect a hellgun to always hit where you point it, a mass-produced lasgun might not simply because the lenses are not fitted with as much precision, so shake it and it will hit something slightly to the side.
      And GW has given stats for far more mundane weapons in the past, like crossbows, so we do have things to compare their guns to. Needless to say, lasguns don't seem very impressive if you consider the stats GW have made for weapons we know how they work (in both pen & paper RPGs and on tabletop wargames). The main advantage of a lasgun compared to more modern weapons comes from the fact that it's got a battery in it that can last 100 shots, and quickly be recharged, not its stopping power.

    To be fair, the inaccurate aiming without auto aim is technically lore accurate. For some deep lore info: Tau are descended from a herbivore species, and so by GWs minimal understanding of evolution this means their eyes arent adapted for hunting and therefore they have poor depth perception (this is often true of prey species but its because of how theyre oriented, not an inherent quality)
    Tau are actually terrible shots because of this and use their technology to make up for it. This is why Tau shoot as well as Guardsmen without markerlights in the tabletop. This is also why they hate melee combat, because its harder to make up for their poor depth perception with technology in melee.

      Let's first look at the current state of the galaxy:
      The Tau are an idealistic, expansionist race pushing out into the galaxy making friends from other races where they can while slowly undermining the governments of those other races as they seek to become the unquestioned masters of their local sector. This works fairly well until they expand out to contact humanity. Mankind is wise to the Tau's shenanigans and views them with little more than contempt, the Tau lack the psychic and martial prowess that all humans naturally posses. With such short lifespans the Tau couldn't ever pose a real threat to Man, any truly dangerous Tau could just be outlived. Additionally, they are spared the attentions of Chaos only because their souls are so dim in the warp that they appear as a match next to a bonfire. The Tau are undeterred, they know that their mastery of and advancements with technology will see them win the day in the end.

    The enemy's voices remind me of an old talking action figure that you forgot about in your closet for a few years.

    They run at you making bird noises AND dabbing?! Truly a threat that needed to be eliminated.

    I never would’ve thought that the first Wh40k fps would use a lesser known Imperial Guard regiment; The Armageddon Steel Legion.

    This game was a real pity. The novel, written by the incredible Simon Spurrier, is one of the best 40k narratives ever created. Kais is one of the most unique characters written into 40k, especially considering that he's a non-human, and the story has everything an epic 40k tale requires. I can't express how remarkable the novel is, and what a let-down this game became for me knowing the lore it was based on. I highly encourage any 40k fan that hasn't read "Fire Warrior" to pick it up, and also give "Lord of the Night" a read-through; Simon Spurrier is the unsung GOD of BL - very much up there with Abnett in terms of mastery of his craft and depiction of grimdark. Do yourselves a favor and read his books.
    Heh I remember getting this game for PC when it came out and hating how trashy everything about it was - I can't imagine trying to play it now. I'll stick to my DoW apocalypse mods :P

    "I can't recall a boss in a game that committed suicide"
    Funny enough that happened to me once in Dark Souls 2. Granted, it was a reused boss in the gargoyle as a common enemy but it did the fly up and charge down attack, except I moved out of the way in time and it charged off the side of the map...then somehow died of fall damage...
    Was a surreal moment.

      Speaking of Dark Souls 2, I don't know if it should count since you reduce his health to 0, but if you beat Alonne without taking any damage, he has a unique death animation of him commiting seppuku. So he's KINDA a boss that commits suicide

      Fromsoft bosses can actually kill themselves quite often. The Taurus Demon can be tricked into jumping off a bridge, Ceaseless Discharge (Yes, that is the boss' actual name) can be lured to his death, Sir Alonne and Maiden Astraea also kill themselves if you beat one without getting hit and kill the other's bodyguard first respectively.
      Though in all those cases except the Taurus Demon it's intentional.

    "I can't recall a time when a boss in a game just committed suicide"
    The first night I booted up Dark Souls the minotaur fell off his own platform. Granted, this probably only happened because I was terrible and it was about my 30th attempt.

      Pokemon Puzzle League. Got to Gary, and it was super close. I was about to die off because I had too many blocks/garbage to deal with when suddenly Gary starts speeding his blocks up to the ceiling quickly. I couldn't believe it, he ended up killing himself.
