Seems to me that most things described as "entities" turn out to be malevolent. You never hear Mister Rogers called an entity, for ex. I did once live with a cat called Destructive Feline Entity (even had tags for it), although as a kitten it was named Puffles - which might have explained its adult personality, now that I think of it. I know I'd resent being called Puffles.

I feel like the bad level design was a leftover of the game's original strategy version. Objectives like defending a town while you kill a specific target, or having some of your units hold the line while one hero unit goes through some challenges would make a lot more sense in a game where you control an entire army and have disposable units under your command, instead of just a four man party which basically needs to stay together at all times.

    • @TheNapster153
      @TheNapster153 Год назад +45

I feel that was the intention as well. The closest I've seen this work is Warhammer Mark of Chaos. You have small side missions where you can have your lead character enter duels and it makes for awesome roleplay.
There's also a mission to loot a powerful sword for your MC in the Empire campaign. The catch is that only your heroes could enter the mausoleum, but in truth I had fun with that one.
Now I wonder why they didn't keep the stratergy element and lean into a Warcraft aesthetic. These were supposedly former Westwoods people no less.

19:30 To this game's credit, the "Greed king's" gold mechanic is a pretty awesome idea for a more competent rougelite/roguelike game.
It can be an early game boss who drops money/loot but if you pick it up, it makes the fight harder, however you make the late game potentially easier for yourself.
I'm sure some games done it already since, but this is the first time I'm seeing it and I like it (on paper at least).

    • @TheNapster153

Hell, it could be an excuse for a revolutionized practice dummy.
You incentivize experimentation with different gear and get rewarded for it in terms of currency for defeating the 'dummy boss'. The boss itself is no slouch either and it's behaviour will change accordingly towards the player's style.

    This review was... important.
It's important, because anytime I see a good (little) game review on your channel, Mandalore, I'm like "I could do that!"
I'm a game creator myself (sorry, "solo indy game developper", as they say), who had and can still have brilliant ideas sometimes.
So I get all worked up and excited after "good games" reviews.
But then there's those "bad games" reviews.
And I'm like : "Ah... I could do that too..."
And that's when I realize I don't have the "vision" to really differentiate the two, good and bad, when making my own stuff from scratch.
All the review long, I see it's bad, and I try to figure out how "I" would improve it, to push it to the "good/fun" area.
But I don't often know how.
So, yeah, in theory, I could do all that.
Pray the lords I don't try too much, I guess, or at least not until Merlin blesses me with the capacity to really see the difference, when creating my own monsters, and the path to salvation.
Thank you so much for your awesome videos and gems you bring forward. ;)

Take it from a perfectionist writer who had to rewrite an entire series twice to get it right: keep it simple stupid (KISS) is the best lesson I've ever learned and I had to learn it the hard way. Take a basic idea and slowly build on top of it and things will go better for you. Trying to make it and failing is better than not trying and regretting not trying at all. Everyone regrets what they didn't do the most.

I can relate with fantasizing about a game with a badass warrior on the cover but being unable to play it until adulthood. I found a copy of Witchaven in an old attic but no matter how hard I tried I didn't manage to get it to work on my pc. Little me was convinced the most badass game ever laid prissioner inside that CD,

I once circumvented a ban on M rated games by printing out the cover of a T rated game, cutting out the T rating and gluing it over the M rating. I thought I was really smart. Maybe I was because it worked. The game was Splinter Cell Double Agent.

Would you mind reviewing Drakengard? I know it isn't obscure, but it's one of my favourite games, and I'd love to hear you talk about it. I have yet to finish the final ending (due to weapon grinding), but I've spent so many hours listening to that wonderfully oppressive soundtrack. I just love it. I also have a soft spot for Chaos Legion, though I'm not sure there's enough meat on that game to review, at least not alone. As always, your videos are a pleasure, and have inspired more than one purchase.

I love the trailers of games of that era. This one, Myth, Atrox, Armies of Exigo, wh dark omen and so on. There was something in them that just guaranteed a nice escapism session.

I have strong memories of playing this on the PS2 as a child. It was oddly satisfying watching along realizing how much id forgotten... aaaand just how much I remembered.
Even at the time, I think I knew this was a bad game, but it definitely had a certain sense of style that I miss.
It doesn't deserve it, but I think id be interested in a remake. But then, iv always kind of thought its bad games with cool ideas that needed remakes, The good ones can sort of just be left alone.
