Spraying exterior siding and why I mask windows

- Just a quick time lapse as I finish spraying the 3rd side of this house for the day. Using a Graco 395 pc pro airless sprayer, 517 Rac X spray tip, 36' ladder is the tallest one.
This is a spec home with hardi-plank siding. Backrolling not needed. Priming is always a good idea but not specced for these jobs. Color used is Rock Gray (Miller Paint color or SW maybe?)
Thanks for watching and for your support!!

Excellent job my friend !!!
Nice work and very clean!
Great job.........now make more videos! We enjoy learning things from you!
great vid bud, nice speed up ladder work 👍
Sun is cooking that masking tape on , gotta move fast ! Good work!
Big giant balls. Beautiful work.
After awhile you get used to spray big big stuff... If you know, then ya know...
Wow bro, you are very good at what you do. I'm a painter myself and I've found myself doing similar things by myself. It a great adrenaline rush but...I have read some of the other comments and yes your life is worth more that what ever your getting paid for on that job. Safety first bro, as much as possible at least.. Maybe your boss or coworkers should at least be spotting you at bottom of the ladder. Not like he hold the 40ft ladder when it decides to go, but maybe he can spot a potential problem you may have overlooked. Regardless bro, you are a old schoo style, kickass painter. Much respect! Just hope you don't ever get hurt. Love your Vids!!! You need a raise!!!!
You guys need planks if that's the case. Tie off with a harness above 30 feet and you'll be killing it with prices. I love exterior season, only time I can slash my prices and make twice as much as competitors
Do a video transporting those 40 ft ladders....ha ha good work.
Any videos with tips on how to paint stucco..? Thanks
I don't paint stucco much but I spray two seperate passes across a surface, at two different angles with the wrist "locked".
Most guys would backroll with a 1" or bigger nap roller.
2 coats is recommended.
Elastomeric paint is good to use but check with local paint store about that or other products
If you used a 3ft production wand with svivel, you would have so many lapmarks unless maybe your shooting flat.... what is that lil baby extension you have, a 12inch ? I'm sure if I look at your walls, I can see everything you doing.....
You live up to your name it looks like.
Hey I been sprayING for 23 years at the time of this video. I know how to spray and create a good looking product.
If it didn't look good I would have had to do it again.
You can't see how much overlap I have into the previous sections... when I double up product, and feather out sections to avoid lap
marks.
Also using Miller Evolution flat on this home which is bad-ass paint.
There's different situations (ladder set ups) and eaves to reach safely on these homes so I use the extension that works best, not what works for other jobs
@@XCPainter like in the first part of the video you go onto the fascia and break up the section into two parts to the left of the window I would have went up to the pee and done the shake first then brought my ladder down below the window so I can spray from the corner board to the window or as you did your last first and then you're right I'm here in Sacramento California and we have a lot of Hardie board which is super unforgiving and even with flat paint sometimes it can be hard if there's no where to hide the laps... never heard of Miller Evolution either most of the time were using Sherwin-Williams super paint and the reason I like using a 3-foot production with a swivel is because my reach is 4 or 5 ft more than yours and mostly everybody else's that isn't using a 3-foot wand with swivel.. as well as I don't have to go up the ladder is much and I don't have to bend down and kill my back over and over again to spray stuff that's super super low to the ground
@@nothingsimpostleble1593 the shakes were going accent color. I don't mind climbing up or getting low. No worries but yes I use different extension poles and swivels when I want it.
I'm just an employee in the video, not the company owner. I did however have the option to use what I wanted, and if you look at the right side of this house, around the corner, the wall is very tall and ladder access is real tight. I can work with a 10" extension much more effectively and safely in lots of these situations.
Should i paint fascia and window trims first or walls? Thank you
I would prefer to paint walls first
Do you have mask off metal soffits or can you use a shield there?
I prefer masking, so I'm not relying on shields, and can spray a nice even and full coat.
Nice job
How do you overspray down in windy days ??
Just try to spray direct (spraygun not far away.) Don't spray past corners or into the air. Use 515 tip or smaller if needed.
Is that new construction?
Yes, it is. HardI plank siding with a few clear t&g soffits
No planks?!? You'd have that done in less than half time my brother
Thank you very much, but I'm working by myself and usually the ladders would be sitting on the siding and in the way of my spray area.
That would be all work from the scaffold or hoist in Europe.
Please don't get me wrong XC I love your enthusiasm mate..
But I have to ask:
Will your insurance cover pay for broken bones and staying off the work forever or that will be your boss or maybe HO?
Peace.
Not that it really matters, I don't want to get hurt and I take precautions (other than wearing a helmet and body armor) so I'm confident in my safety on the jobsite.... but I pay into a program called L&I which would cover medical expenses and on occasion some compensation for impairment or disability in serious cases, if I were following standard safe work practices... is all I got going.
@@XCPainter you do not take precautions setting your ladder against that fascia mate.
@@mattgloss8580 impossibe for it to go anywhere, I have it matching the fascia angle, making solid contact. I hear ya though, its not a walk in the park.
For the love of all things holy, put some ladder stabilizers on those ladders.
Tip#? Nice video bro.
Graco 517 racX
No need to back roll on exterior walls? Thx
Not hardiplank with smooth surface nope. Plywood or rough cedar boards different story
XC Painter Ah…I see, got it. Thx. When clearing out a sprayer hose or getting it primed, is it always good to have the tip guard and tip removed from the gun? Thx
@@tundrawhisperer4821 Yes that is a good idea, but at a minimum it works with the spray tip out.
What happen why no more videos in such a long time?
I hope you are doing fine!
Hi thanks, i got stuck in making a video that I didn't want to skip but have had a mental block in finishing the editing, thank you for asking!
@@XCPainter I'm glad you are doing fine.
From all the how to paint videos channels and that includes (Idaho painters) you're channel is the best. Top of the line quality and very efficient and clean to work.
@@carlos-uj3qg thanks a lot, have you seen my Instagram account. I have been keeping up on there
I didn't know about that. I will definitely follow you there in what state do you work?
@@carlos-uj3qg I'm in Bremerton, Washington
What area are you in
The PNW
What is that lol
@@MiguelMartinez-uo6nq Washington state
Are you a 1 man crew?
Mostly yes. My boss works but we've been doing our own tasks lately. He's working inside installing cabinets and trim.
@@XCPainter I hope he pays you well. You'd kill it running your own game.
