I had 2 labrador retrievers who had acl injuries. Surgery was 4,000 plus, something I couldn't afford. The vet explained the gentle care healing technique. It takes the same amount of time as recovery from surgery. Both of them healed completely with no further problems. It is far superior to surgery.
My golden also tore both her acls in both legs o could not afford surgery either she was on low key activity was fine but unfortunately cancer took my baby 10 20 2023 at only 7😢
I have large dogs, 100lbs or more. 3 out of 4 knees torn, I did surgery each time. Even on my senior who was 10.5 years old. He recovered in 5 weeks, my female recovered in 6. There are less invasive procedures, but really need done by a great vet.
Same here. Healed 2 50 lb dogs of torn ACLs with Conservative management---lots of rest, no running/jumping, the right supplements (cartilage, green lipped mussel, chondroitin, glucosamine, MSM, etc). Surgery involves cutting or drilling through the bone. No thanks!
Thank you for this video. I’m finding it hard to not get angry with my dog’s experience with torn ACL and the completely useless advice and instruction we got compared to this video, and we paid thousands of dollars for her to end up paralyzed from a vet dropping her on the floor and having to put her to rest bc she couldn’t expel her bladder. Ty for the videos and hopefully helps others not experience the devastation and betrayal we did.
That is shocking ! I'm so sorry you and your dog had to go through that. Of course you are angry - who wouldn't be ? I hope you find peace with what has happened quickly so that you can move on and enjoy happy memories of your girl and the time you shared.
@@maralfniqle5092 thank you so much for your kind words 🙏 they actually released her to me paralyzed and didn’t tell me out of fear. They placed her in my car since she was a larger dog breed (German Shepard) and I didn’t realize something was wrong until I tried to get her out of the car and she collapsed on me (I’m 120lbs so we both fell to the ground). They refunded me the $1500 and the vet called to apologize after I called them to ask what happened. Such a terrible mess and deception. She passed in perfect spirits, she was all there mentally and her usual happy self but she couldn’t pass urine and was starting to get toxic inside. I was ready to get her fitted for a wheelchair and prayed so hard for her to pass urine but she never could. I learned a lot of lessons that day and why I’m sooooooo grateful for Dr Jones and those like him. ❤️
@@alisonwoolley4815 thank you for your kindness and understanding. I really don’t like being angry since I got 10 wonderful years with her but you’re right, I need to acknowledge this anger bc it is souring my memories of her. Thank you, you shined a light where I have some healing and forgiveness to do.
our boy has now done both ACL’s. first one we did PRP with great results and the second one (opposite leg) was a complete tear. We were told surgery was the only option, but went with my gut and opted for collagen-rich bone broth, green lipped muscle, PEA and vet rehab sessions. he is now back to full hour walks 6 months later!
Can I ask if you used a knee brace ? My greyhound has torn his ccl. I bought a knee brace which unfortunately doesn't fit due to his unique body shape. There's no one who makes costume made braces here in Australia only in the US or Uk. Its costly and will take a long time before it gets here and also, I have to do the cast myself which is risky for accuracy. I can't keep buying knee braces and hope that one will fit....the companies don't take returns so it can't end up being very costly. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
@@zahrarosepeermohamed2620 oh what a bugger! did you get the balto one? that’s the one we got, thankfully it fit ok (i’m in aus too). the vets i saw over the years say it’s not a “must have” but i think it definitely does help. can you jimmy it up/modify it to fit somewhat at all? my friend is a retired vet of 40 years (not a conventional one!) and recommend the bone broth every other day, i feel it has been a game-changer! super easy to make too.
Love love love the Ortho dog knee brace. It was comfortable for my dog, easy to put on/off and it saved my large 65 pound dog. I did all the things you recommended over 5 years ago and was made to feel like a bad dog owner because I did not want to subject my dog to that surgery. My dog healed beautifully and it took the same amount of time as the surgery recovery would have. I just found your channel a few months ago, recommend you to all my friends. Thank God for critically thinking vets like yourself, you are doing good work sir and my dog and I appreciate you. I lost faith in Western medicine over 30 years ago, avoid it at all costs. Have a beautiful day!
@@michaelkeller6223 Ortho Dog Cruciate Care Knee Brace, on Ortho Dog website. Price has gone up, but it works. I have recommended it to several people, they all had great results and thanked me. I did hours and hours and hours of research before making my decision.
My 120lb Cane Corso (avg to slightly below weight for her size) blew her ACL. Not only could I not afford the surgery, but there wasn't any local vets that performed the particular surgery she needed. I had a honest vet that explained the surgery to me and how bad it actually was...they literally cut the ball joint off...he said its extremely painful for the dog and recovery was not easy nor guaranteed and many times unsuccessful. As Dr Jones directed, I was told to restrict her movement (I was told for a full month) and then slowly add activity. I wrapped her leg as well during the month of restricted movement I also bought a collapsible 2 tier step-stool to get her in and out of my SUV and used them from that day going forward (which learning to use the step-stool totally came in handy as she aged, because I'm disabled myself so I would not have been able to lift her) using the steps kept the jarring/jolting of the front legs and shoulder joints jumping down, and more stability for the rear legs and hip joints getting in She healed well!...I'd say 95% (I continued to keep a guarded and mindful eye on her, and reeled he in when she got rambunctious)
@@zahrarosepeermohamed2620 I wrapped it with a semi loose ace bandage for maybe a week or so during that month of restricted movement. My vet had said it was better to not brace or wrap it because the key was to allow the muscles and tendons to re-gain strength, and allowed the scar tissue to keep pliable...which in the end is what stabilizes the knee/ACL.
@@1wascallywabbit oh great, thanks for your reply and time. Mine torn his 6 weeks ago so I'm probably past that stage of needing to do that. I'm just hoping it will be able to continue healing without a brace as I can't find one that fits. He's a Greyhound and has a unique body shape 😉🙏🏽
@@zahrarosepeermohamed2620 You're welcome. Please note that was probably 10÷ years ago for my girl, but it is how I recall it. But you may want to ask around to get additional input, especially since a Cane Corso has a thicker bone structure and stockier build vs your Greyhound...but I would think the physics would still apply. (I lost my girl last Sept at the age of 12.5yrs and her knee issue was back when she was around 2yo. She never got back full flexibility of that knee...and had a hard sitting like before (had to sit kind of cattywampus and laid with it stretched out rather than tightly curled up) ...but she ran and played and treated life like a puppy up until the last week of her life. I wish you and your pup the best of luck, health, healing...and a long life together!
@@1wascallywabbit thank you so much. Yes, I'm trying to do as much research and ask around as possible. The vets here are very narrow minded so unfortunately not much help. The internet is great for info but can also take you down many rabbit holes. However I do feel positive that we can heal this without surgery..... I'm sorry to hear you lost your fur baby 😢
My baby, Penny, an American Staffordshire Terrier, ripped both of her ACL, first time almost 8 years ago, second time 5 years ago. I wish I had known about this back then. I hated that surgery, the postsurgical recovery took far too long. Thank you Dr. Andrew.
It worked for my 2 year old pup and again when she re-injured it at age 5. She was a small dog at 15lbs. I got a stroller, used supplements and I got her a brace off Amazon even though it was not recommended. I did take it off every day and it was not tight. It helped keep her from trying to jump up on things and slowed her down around the house. I read it would take 3 months and the 2nd time it took the full 3 months and I did not take her to the vet the second time because I knew what to try. I heard if they get surgery they can injure the opposite side. I recommend giving it a try before committing to surgery if your dog is small. My mom's neighbors gave her a hard time when she watched her because I would not take her to the vet but I know I did the right thing.
Our Rottweiler injured has ACL. After finding you videos and your previous videos helped us get him back to full strength with many months of rest. He’s back and no issues. Thank you.
My 62lbs Lab-X had TPLO surgery one year ago. It was expensive ($4200) but worked exceptionally well and fast. She extensively started to drool after I gave her the pain medication (Gabapentin), so I gave her a quarter of it and soon no medication at all and observed her carefully. She had no pain and did fine without meds. I give her green tea, turmeric and green lipped muscle powder. My concern was how fast the leg muscles atrophied, and with TPLO she was able to walk on that injured leg within 2 weeks of surgery and built her muscles back quickly. But I also had to follow a strict recovery plan for 12 weeks, because it still needs to fully heel regardless of what you decide to do. One year later she is doing very well, and I’m as careful as I can be not get the other ACL torn. I’m not sure what I would do if that happened, since she’s already nine years old. 😊
Brace, rest, minimal walking for 2 months, turmeric, fish oil, glucosamine and green lipped mussel supplements did it for me. She was running after 4 months. Meloxicam is a no no, my dog got haemorrhagic gastroenteritis prior to this because of Meloxicam and was pooping only blood and almost died. Horrible drug. Oh I also bought a red light therapy device and used that on the knee 30 mins every night.
The same thing happened to my dog almost instantly when prescribed meloxicam. After three days in a row of him pooping straight black liquid inside my house (never pooped inside before that) Took stool sample to vet and he said “it’s too dark to see anything” duh that’s why I brought it in!!! Anyways, took him off after two days. Would never use meloxicam again.
I regret doing the acl surgery on my senior dog. It was so heartbreaking watching him in pain. Now his other back leg is hurting and he’s limping. I definitely will not do another surgery on him. I will try these natural remedies all thanks to you Doctor 🙏🏼❤️
Ortho dog makes a fabulous brace, comfortable for your dog, easy to put on/off and simple measure and order it. It saved my large dog from this surgery. I highly recommend it! I have nothing but good things to say about it, and I did a LOT of research before I ordered it. My dog healed beautifully, and this was 5 years ago,
@@purpleturtle7477My vet discouraged using a brace. I actually had a kit ordered but had to send it back because I could not find a vet to do the casting here in Tucson.
My pit mix Keno tore her ACL chasing wild rabbits and stepped in a hole. The X-rays were $650 and they said she had degenerative joint disease and even if she had surgery there was no guarantee it would work for $7,000 so I didn't. She was out for a year but progressive walking for months got her strong again and she was 5 years then. She just started having problems with her legs collapsing off and on and she's 12 1/2 years old now and has had a great life considering the ACL.
Thank you so much for this amazing information, Doctor! I will definitely bear this in mind if any of my beloved hounds sustain knee trauma. We are all very grateful for your tireless research and for enlightening so many.
Our 3 year old rescued 200 lb, 40 in Boerboel tore his acl. It was 7 months before he could function decently. We did pretty much everything Doc is talking about. Boerboels diet is high protein anyway but food reduction is imperative. He was immobilzed for quite a while and it was tough on him. He always had a limp after that but it was better than the alternative.
I'm an animal physiotherapist (specialized in dogs and cats), so I get my fair share of ACL on a regular basis. The usual way you have to think of is 1) Stabilization 2) Strengthening muscles and 3) Keep those muscles. 1) Yes, it's a leash and I usually recommend a good knee brace (consider that each pet is individual, so what might've fit your neighbor's dog, might not fit yours). ROM (range of motion) exercises as demonstrated and stabilization exercises (such as having your dog walking on straight lines or backwards slowly, balance pads or pillows can be added as well though at first they shouldn't be too shaky and support needs to be guaranteed). + Regardless which leg hurts, always train both sides. One leg loses muscles, but the other one is getting tense from being overused and since your dog is running on four legs this will eventually result in back pain as well. So massage the back (going with the fur, like stroking, but add a little more pressure to get to the muscles). If you find tight muscles, try forming a tent by pinching the skin behind said tight muscles and - without dropping your fingers - roll the skin forward Isometric exercise can be done as well (though I would keep it easy by doing so when he lies down) 2) That's when you put some pressure on the hind legs (easily archived by placing your dog's front paws higher - not higher than your dog's knee, though - and luring your dog to put more weight on the hind legs by showing him a treat above his head). Your dog shouldn't go as far as to sit down. Walking uphill slowly (better off when you're not walking straight up but at an angle) is also a great way to do so. 3) Usually this one can be done very easily by taking your dog for a walk :) If possible, always ask your animal physiotherapist to show you some exercises to do at home and have them show you in detail, try your first attempt when they're still around. Give your furry friend some cuddles. I hope they get better soon :)
I wish I’d discovered Orto-Canis before getting our 40kg Dobermann’s left knee operated on. It’s healed well, but the surgery was a nightmare (bone saw broke as they started using it… she was sent home for five days until a replacement blade arrived; and she came home from each of the surgeries with a hole in her back that no-one can/will explain how they got there). And as soon as she was eventually healed, her other knee started to go. That’s when did some homework and found the products that we now use. The neoprene “sleeve-like’ legging(s) stabilise the knee and provide the support to enable your pooch to enjoy relatively pain-free exercise and fun. It’s held up by a Velcro strap that’s attached to her harness. It probably took a little less time for her to heal using the brace, but it still takes time and patience (on everyone’s behalf). However, the leggings are really cheap (compared to surgery), easy to use, washable, non-invasive, not painful for your dog, there’s no need for noxious medications to keep you pup sedated and there is no risk of your fur-baby developing infections or other complications that can accompany going under the knife. I hope that this snippet of information will be of help to you folks ❤
@@chrstinedivinagracia7259, I’ve also learned that 4Cyte for dogs helps immensely with the healing process - from within. You can get it from your local vet (hopefully) or order it online. Our 40kg baby has 2ml/per day. And it must taste good because she will even happily lick it from the syringe lol. I’ll endeavour to take some footage of Princess Amber in her gear (I may even put the leggings on both of her legs… she looks super hard-core with them on!). While the gait of her hind legs is still a little stiff, at least she doesn’t feel the need to ‘bunny-hop’ instead of running, now 🙏🏼
We have this going on right now! We are going with PRP to start, 2 rounds (make sure you know that the vet will recommend more than 1 round) and PEMF - I have my own magnawave device. We also got a wheelchair for him. However, we have such a problem keeping our lab from being to bouncy and active! We have 2 other dogs, and our yard is all hilly. He won’t go to the bathroom on a leash on our property - though he’s perfectly fine peeing on some else’s lawn! We’re doing our best and keeping our fingers crossed it works enough. We also have Dr. Jones’s supplements.
I have a Cavalier Spaniel/Bichon cross. 2 vets to get the diagnosis. I bought a brace off Amazon to support. Watching activity helps. It seems worse in winter too.
Acupuncture, red light therapy, and the water treadmill has done wonders for my senior aged miniature beagle. Had a torn ACL and arthritis. We now go only once a month for his treatments, and I massage his leg every few nights. These vets are great, a little hard to find, but worth the money, thanks for your great video!
@@lmacnotw I do red light therapy at home as they need daily for a long time (and I'm not sure the vets offer that service and it would be much more costly). There's lots of devices on the market. I'm in Australia and bought a handheld device from a company called block blue light. It's great and I can also use it on myself. I read lots of reviews before deciding who to buy from.
Off topic my 10 year old Boston Terrier shakes a lot even during sleep. I'm worried that this was caused by over immunization. I cut her down to every three years six years ago, which law allows in Canada. Thanks and shared like usual.
My Eskie injured his CL. Thanks to you, I worked diligently on crate rest and easy walks. He healed with hardly a trace of a limo. I am working with OrthoDog on a brace to support him and avoid further injury. Thank you.
We opted out of surgery for 65 lb American Staffordshire Terrier, first knee at 5, other happened at 7. I used a sling and crate for mandatory rest, some rimadyl I had on hand, Ellevet CBD, Dasequin chews, Assisi loop PEMF. He tells me how far to go now. Second side recovered faster since he’s been on home cooked diet. We tried the custom posh brace and skipped it second time around, didn’t enjoy dealing with that thing.
My pit bull had this surgery & I educated myself on making her better, I have seen two vets & I can’t believe how little information both gave out. On my own I did later & some acupuncture, & started CBD
@@ChaosMommaOf4 I got mine off Amazon it was not molded but came in sizes. It was a little big so I sewed it. She could still move enough to not get stiff so I think it was better. Excellent! I was having a hard time everywhere I turned to get any answers. what was worse was I had no idea of the questions to ask. Dr Jones filled in all the blanks! Thank You Soo *very* Much!!
Red light therapy/photobiomodulation is a wonderful treatment for all sorts of injuries, including ACL sprains and partial tears. My cousin's dog, Joy, injured her knee last winter, and the quote for surgery was $3000-$5000. He didn't have that much in the piggy bank, and in any case wished to avoid the surgery if possible. He knew how well red light therapy works for me, so he bought a small, inexpensive red light therapy device. He used it for 3 minutes 2 or 3 times a day, and within 4-5 weeks Joy wasn't limping at all anymore. He continues to use it for her about twice a week, and she continues to show no sign of discomfort. Dr. Jones has mentioned light therapy briefly in the past. Now that red light therapy devices have become so widely available (and much more affordable) for home use, I hope that he will consider doing a video with updated information.
That is great to hear. I bought a red-light therapy device for my greyhound who has torn his ccl. I'm putting a lot of faith in it but have only been using it for a week so hard to tell if it's making a difference. Did you use a knee brace for your pup ?
@@zahrarosepeermohamed2620 The injured pup was my cousin's dog, and he considered getting a knee brace for her, but her improvement was so rapid that he didn't need to get a brace after all. Possibly her tear was not severe enough to need one, but I'd say it's better to get a brace and not need it, than to need it and go without it. My cousin also put his girl on green-lipped mussel and MSM. I hope your boy heals soon.
“there’s a whole lot of hope there” thank you so much for your videos and advice. my vet has essentially told me there’s nothing I can do and your information has been so helpful.
My dog is not a candidate for surgery because she is obese. We've been trying to get the weight off of her but she is on multiple medications for a seizure disorder and that too makes her a poor candidate for surgery. If you add that she's breaking cephalic or flat nosed nobody wants to take her on. So it is wonderful that there is this option. I also know that the molded braces that cost $1,000 bucks Also may help quite a bed but it sounds as though this program if done first and then at the point when they be allowed to walk putting the brace on just to walk would be appropriate. That way they wouldn't be over using the joint or stressing it thus ensuring they need the brace for life. But there is one more thing. As I was reviewing the options I noticed one comment and a vet's response that it was true that the tplo surgery has been linked to an increased risk of cancer at the site. One person commented that they spent the $5,000 on the surgery only to lose their dog to cancer two years later. And I was shocked and disgusted that the vet leading the discussion immediately acknowledged that was true. Because nowhere do you see that in the articles about the surgery and the comments by the owners of the sites that surgery is really the only option for a dog with a complete tear or a dog that has the risk factor of size or weight. I'm sure my dog's weight is the number one factor working against her and so I'm going to get one of those giant plastic tubs used for storing the Christmas tree and other things and put that in my bathtub and put a drain in it so that I can fill up with water and put her in a harness up to her neck and warm water and let her dog paddle. I'm going to buy an infrared device and the DMSO in Kennedy on. I recently started around the glucosamine chondroitin just for general joint health and I will start the curcumin as well. Plus whatever else the doctor mentioned. As a healthcare provider myself, I try my very best with my human patients to give them all of the information and support them and making a decision. If they have questions I answer honestly incompletely and is nearly without bias as possible. I'm willing to research something they have questions about if I'm not familiar with it. But most of all I will not lie to them just to make them like me or make them feel better. I won't assume they're in denial and that they don't want to hear the truth and then turn around and tell them once they realize that their pet can't be saved essentially that they have realized that a long time back and didn't tell the owner. When you asked them why if they will tell you at all it's supposedly to spare you the knowledge until you're ready to hear it. That's the same BS that you hear when your toes your dog will tell you when it's time to euthanize. Now it's one thing to talk about signs that the animal is suffering and losing quality of life and the pros and cons of various timing. But there seems to be this assumption that you don't want to know even when you say clearly that your highest priority is avoiding suffering for your pet and that they should give you the down and dirty blunt truth and not sugarcoat anything. And you let them know that you don't want to be given such drastic negative comments that they'll be afraid to even try. You can say all that as I have many times and when they don't tell you about a treatment that exists or they don't tell you what else they're thinking might be wrong with your dog or they don't ask the questions they need to ask to elicit the information that would help them make a diagnosis, you still just end up putting up with that. Then one day you realize that the Pat is really suffering and you need to end it for them. And that may occur suddenly in a way that the vet could have predicted but you didn't because you weren't told that it was coming and fairly soon. And then when you take them in they essentially tell you that they've known all along it was coming to that point and they may even say it in such a way as to imply that you've been stubborn and slow at accepting it. As if they had told you at all!
You helped us heal our rescue female Rottweiler and Lab mix. She had restricted activity and good food and rest for many weeks. We thank you so much for your videos. She takes your CBD and joint supplement to help when she is stiff. She can run again!!!
Red light therapy laser(I got my light from Photonic health) .its runs on the similar treatment principle to accupuncture to increase the bloodflow to the area to encourage circulation and healing. Helped my dog to completely recover with of course resstricted activity. Metacam, DMSO.Also fed low carb high protein homemade food. Took about 4 months of dedication care..Dr Andrew's got it right. Got most of my info from him
Another big reason why dogs who are recovering from tendon/ligament injuries should be switched to high protein diets is because that protein is going to provide the building blocks that your dog's body needs to repair those tissues. Tendons and ligaments are composed of mainly type 1 collagen, so high protein diets, especially ones with added bone broth or collagen supplements can be incredibly beneficial to the recovery process. LLLT has also been shown to enhance the repair state of tendons and ligaments. These 2 things paired with antinflammatory foods and energy work and massage really can make all of the difference when it comes to healing injuries like this.
My 100lb female Rottie had the $4k TPLO surgery and now her knee is making this clicking/popping sound although it doesn't seem to be bothering her anymore. My 10 year old border collie injured his leg. I took him to my usual vet and was advised to carry out surgery at a cost of $10,009 AUD. I thought I would get a 2nd opinion from another local vet. Luckily this vet was more alternative, placed him on pain meds and advised not to do surgery, rest him and it would heal. In 6 months he was back to himself without surgery! Vets don’t always know best!

This is needed to be broadcast to every dog owner especially the large breeds. My Belgian Shepard tore not one but both CCL ligaments one leg included his patella. I opted for non surgery, and vet was less than impressed. After watching the recommended laser treatments, I purchased one myself and got myself certified to use it , daily. One tip , as a massage therapist, have your dogs lumbar area L4 and L5 released. I learned it’s common for this area to be tight, and releasing it helped him immensely. Dog was on raw food already but I upped his omegas . Originally I purchased a custom brace , after the first tear ($1000), but when he tore his second one I purchased a simple brace off Amazon for 95$. DMSO is awesome, and helps a lot!

I had my yorkie's ligament surgicaly repaired about 6 weeks after the day he held that leg up, 6 weeks later they said there was still too much "play" in the joint and it would have to be redone. I don't know how that could have happened, he's on leash, he's crated in a small carrier or held otherwise. I've got dmso and cbd and he's on prescribed melocicam not really wanting to keep him on this. He walks on it with a limp, is on some glucosamine for dogs the vet prescribed. I've been massaging and gently doing the type of passive range of motion twice a day. I would rather hope for some sort of healing but can it even though he's had the surgery? It was the lateral suture procedure. He's got tiny little bones.
Hello Doc, great work 🏆 11.5 yr old Corsi, Pickle is 100lbs and not fat. Question on the brace both knees arent great but one is worse than the other. Sound i get the ortho dog brace or go for a dual brace from another maker ( tailwinds). Please, your oppinion is well appreciated and respected ❤❤❤❤b
Hello thank you for this! I had a Shar Pei who healed on her own. Can you please do a video on how to deal with hip dysplasia and luxating patella in small dogs? I would appreciate it!
My Jack Russell has a knee injury, he is always so active, so I am very sad about this, but he does not seem to be in any pain tho. He is on anti-inflams now. Hopefully he can heel non surgically. Thank you for your advice.
No, it isn't. But I wish Dr. Jones would do a video on luxating patella. So many small dogs suffer from it. I had it fixed in one of my Yorkies. It was very expensive, I had to find an orthopedic surgeon, and it was a very rough recovery.
“Not everyone wants surgery” this! I know my baby needs surgery but I am so scared that surgery will make her worse but I’m here researching and watching videos because I also know she is uncomfortable and that may be surgery is best. I am just so scared to make the wrong decision. She torn her acl or so the vet thinks at 8 months at puppy day care. I took her to puppy day care bc we live in an apt and she’s an English lab who was so very happy and had so much energy. I thought I was doing what was best for her. She loved it, I couldn’t even mention the word “school” bc she would get so excited but one day when I went to pick her up, she was limping on 3 legs and they had nooooo idea what happened 🙄 she was completely normal when I dropped her off. I wish I could take that day back and never take her there. I feel so guilty which is why I’m scared to do surgery bc I don’t want to make her life worse. She is only 3 😭 she’s the sweetest n smartest baby ever. She deserves the best and I don’t understand why she’s had so many things happen to her. 😮💨😫
6:33 LMAO My RubyDoo woke up out of deep sleep. So deep she was snoring. Who can tell me what woke her up? I know but just wondering if others can guess it. My RubyDoo currently has a torn ACL. We got a video about it on our channel. We been very reduced activity out on a leash, almost 0 up stairs (she sneaky though) I allow her to go down since going down all the force is on the front part. Almost 0 jumping she has faked me out pretending to go get a drink of water when I was about to lift her up to the bed then as soon as I settle back down she comes running and jumpin on the bed. But so far I have noticed a reduced amount a limping. I will continue this till she stops limping. And she is on some good suppliments and just added added more to her CBD regiment recently. But its hard for her not to want to run outside. She missing chasing evil squirrels that get into my garden lol, RubyDoo my garden protector. She misses her trike runs and hiking. She helps me up hills and she misses that terribly. OH RubyDoo would bite me if I did not say that she would love your support for every 1k subs she gets a steak dinner.
Our dog had incredible recovery with custom made braces (we went with Posh) as well as good massage, supplements and careful monitoring. She is back to her puppy like self at 8 years old now.
My GSD has a torn ligament in his front left ankle, so unfortunately a brace won’t work for him 🫤. Our vet advised against surgery. Arctic is currently on Adequan injections and Dasequin, and yesterday our vet added Librela. Thankfully Arctic’s not overweight, but unfortunately he loves to run. Keeping him sedentary is going to be difficult, but if it will allow him to heal it will be worth the groans and reproachful looks he’s so good at. Does anyone else have experience with a front ankle ligament tear, and is it possible to recover naturally from this?
New Roots DMSO is available over-the-counter or on Amazon. You can also consider Dr. Jones' Ultimate CBD Formula, which you can find here: shop.veterinarysecrets.com/supplements/ultimate-cbd.html
Hi there, my twelve-year-old mini Golden Doodle tore her CCL 8 weeks ago. We did not opt for surgery. I watched your helpful video, followed your recommendations regarding the movement restrictions and PM, and put her on a Cosequin joint supplement and DMSO. She is still not walking on her left hind leg, but she can now do a square sit and, I assume, a 20% weight bearing while raising up. In what timeframe should we be able to see her use her leg again while walking?
Two thirds... That's great. But would take a chance if my dog might fall into that third that doesn't heal? I had a dog who suffered this injury. Surgery was 100% successful, but it cost me a huge sum.
I wish I would have had this information a year ago before my girl ended up with 2 surgeries a month apart. She now has residual pain unless I keep her on pain med. Because she still doesn't walk normally, she can only walk a small amount before she's worn out. It makes me sad. She has gained back the weight she lost before surgery which isn't helping. My vet doesn't immediately resort to surgery either. Only after 2 or 3 months of no improvement. But this information might have prevented the surgeries all together. Thank you.
My question here is…..why is this health challenge happening to so many dogs? I hear from many dog owners that their dog has torn their ACL. Weekend warrior dogs are more prone to this as they get limited exercise during the week when their owners are working and then on the weekends their owners try to over compensate and they are doing much more exercise such as running more, hiking, jumping. And then bam…..torn ACL or another leg injury.
Is it normal for the acl tendon to bunch up at the bacl of the dogs rear leg it injured? Had the local vets say my older dog tore her acl. trying to check her daily to make sure i dont miss new injuries because shes a breed that doesnt show pain unless its really really bad. I feel a smll ball half the size of a golfball on her inner rear thigh towards her urethra.
As of yesterday my furbaby starting limping or not being able to use her back leg. I checked her for lumps, cuts, bee sting but she seemed ok. What natural ways can I help her feel better? What natural home remedy can I give if she's in pain?
I miss you Dr. Andrew Jones. I wanted to ask you what is a good cataract eye drop to use in dog's eyes. My grand dog only has one eye and a cataract is forming over it. My little Chiweenie (rescued from animal shelter) 11 yrs old now cataracts forming on both her eyes.😢 Marsha phipps
Where can I order one of the braces? This was very informative. Thank you. I use DMSO on myself daily, also use it on my Doxi, but bueve he does need a brace.
I must be honest my dog tore his ACL almost two months ago. Surgery is scheduled for June 6th. I didn’t take the vet seriously when she said leashed walks only and my dog has been playing like normal but slightly reduced. Mostly walking but some playing with other dogs. Is it too late for me to start conservative management ? 2 months into injury and minimal limited activity.
Our GSD had an ACL injury but we chose the non surgical route. It was definitely a 16 week challenge but well worth it. We also brought her weight back to a normal range and have managed to keep it down since, which is helping a lot. Occasionally she does a bit too much running and ends up limping for a day or two. Rest clears it up quickly, but we are extra careful with her now. Is it likely she will get arthritis in this area with our cold BC Winter temps?
Dr Jones Please share your thoughts on Pet lasers purchased for home use? Would you be able to recommend one. My rescue Rusty Rue is a dacshound. Braces don't fit well or correctly. Thank you!
When they have a torn ACL does their knee pop when walking? My 8 year old 103.6 lbs lab mix is on a weight loss journey and she has a limp. Back right leg. Doesn’t seem to pain her too much but recently her knee began to pop. Then it stopped popping. 🤔 I did take her to the vet for her annual then took her back for X-rays as her limp got worse, but they didn’t really see anything too concerning. Soft tissue inj, newly weight loss journey walks, etc. Any idea? Praying because we cannot afford surgery at all.
I had 2 labrador retrievers who had acl injuries. Surgery was 4,000 plus, something I couldn't afford. The vet explained the gentle care healing technique. It takes the same amount of time as recovery from surgery. Both of them healed completely with no further problems. It is far superior to surgery.
Wow !
You have a very good vet
Ohh no sorry to hear that experience 😔 Get well soonest to you pup 🐶
That is shocking ! I'm so sorry you and your dog had to go through that. Of course you are angry - who wouldn't be ? I hope you find peace with what has happened quickly so that you can move on and enjoy happy memories of your girl and the time you shared.
Gosh this is so devastating, some of them are not fit to be vets. Those fur friends are our family, I hope there was some repercussions against him.

Mee too
our boy has now done both ACL’s. first one we did PRP with great results and the second one (opposite leg) was a complete tear.

I wrapped her leg as well during the month of restricted movement
I also bought a collapsible 2 tier step-stool to get her in and out of my SUV and used them from that day going forward (which learning to use the step-stool totally came in handy as she aged, because I'm disabled myself so I would not have been able to lift her) using the steps kept the jarring/jolting of the front legs and shoulder joints jumping down, and more stability for the rear legs and hip joints getting in
She healed well!...I'd say 95% (I continued to keep a guarded and mindful eye on her, and reeled he in when she got rambunctious)
Did you use a knee brace ?
Thank you.
Did you use a knee brace for his recovery ?
Did your vet do the Surgery?
Brace, rest, minimal walking for 2 months, turmeric, fish oil, glucosamine and green lipped mussel supplements did it for me. She was running after 4 months.
Meloxicam is a no no, my dog got haemorrhagic gastroenteritis prior to this because of Meloxicam and was pooping only blood and almost died. Horrible drug. Oh I also bought a red light therapy device and used that on the knee 30 mins every night.

Hi Red! Where did you purchase your red light device from?
The same thing happened to my dog almost instantly when prescribed meloxicam. After three days in a row of him pooping straight black liquid inside my house (never pooped inside before that) Took stool sample to vet and he said “it’s too dark to see anything” duh that’s why I brought it in!!! Anyways, took him off after two days. Would never use meloxicam again.

Literally the 2 of them? Could it be old age? Hope your two pitbulls get better soon ❤
My pit mix Keno tore her ACL chasing wild rabbits and stepped in a hole. The X-rays were $650 and they said she had degenerative joint disease and even if she had surgery there was no guarantee it would work for $7,000 so I didn't.

My Boerboel is 4 and just tore it.. I refuse surgery.
If you find tight muscles, try forming a tent by pinching the skin behind said tight muscles and - without dropping your fingers - roll the skin forward Isometric exercise can be done as well (though I would keep it easy by doing so when he lies down)
2) That's when you put some pressure on the hind legs (easily archived by placing your dog's front paws higher - not higher than your dog's knee, though - and luring your dog to put more weight on the hind legs by showing him a treat above his head). Your dog shouldn't go as far as to sit down. Walking uphill slowly (better off when you're not walking straight up but at an angle) is also a great way to do so.
3) Usually this one can be done very easily by taking your dog for a walk :)
If possible, always ask your animal physiotherapist to show you some exercises to do at home and have them show you in detail, try your first attempt when they're still around.
Ouchh! 😣
Many thanks!!
@@chrstinedivinagracia7259, I’ve also learned that 4Cyte for dogs helps immensely with the healing process - from within. You can get it from your local vet (hopefully) or order it online.

We also got a wheelchair for him. However, we have such a problem keeping our lab from being to bouncy and active! We have 2 other dogs, and our yard is all hilly.
Wonderful!

Got most of my info from him
What about Collagen Peptides for hip and knee joints?
Can you please post your research articles you referenced? I would love to read and share!

Fantastic information that Dr❤❤
My 100lb female Rottie had the $4k TPLO surgery and now her knee is making this clicking/popping sound although it doesn't seem to be bothering her anymore. I am also supplementing her with glucosamine/chondroitinMSM chewables. That poodle had me cracking up the way it kept looking back at the vet. Great info! thanks
Thank you for sharing! I'm glad to hear that your pet is doing well now! ❤️
👍Always great info! Thanks👍
This guy knows what hes talking about 🔥💯
My 10 year old border collie injured his leg.
Too true!
Did you use a knee brace for your pup ?
@@zahrarosepeermohamed2620 nothing at all! Just no running or jumping, only slow walks! Lots of good healthy home cooked meals too! Good luck!
We did infra red treatments and aqua excercises. Worked good!
How long and how often before you got to see the results?
We did laser and exercise
I used the same method. Infra red lighting and lots of swimming. Also had mats in every room and kept her out of drafty areas. She ran like the wind the following year. She lived till 13 1/2 years old.
@@chrstinedivinagracia7259every night for as long as she wanted it there. In the beginning for a couple of hours at a time. A good two months intensive. Six months later more swimming during the summer months. All in all it took a year for hers to heal. A year and a half after the initial injury she was running and jumping on big round bales. The vet told us it would cost $6000.00 for the surgery. The infra red light cost me $300.00. A few extra dog mats Another $100.00 to keep her off the cold floors and out of drafts. That was crucial to stop flare ups. I was so happy i poured TLC into her it was worth it. We sure bonded through her healing time😊 ❤
This is needed to be broadcast to every dog owner especially the large breeds.
Hi Dr. Jones. Thank you for the awesome work that you do and for speaking the truth about the whole vet industry including the pet food & medical industry. I love it and appreciate you putting yourself at "risk". For the love of animals .....so good on you. My greyhound has just been diagnosed with ACL (he'll have full examination and x-rays next week, so will know exactly the damage), I hope to be able to manage it without surgery( he's 32 kg so a big dog) and with natural remedies including acupuncture, hydro etc. Can you please talk about what supplements you would recommend giving them? Thanks to you and Tulla :)
👏👏Dr Jones helped my dog Max by recommending the cruciate brace and Max has been doing great for the past 3 years. Thank you again Doc💚
Max still uses the brace?
@@johana-bc2ix Max hasn’t used the brace for about 3 years now. I keep it handy in my dog first aid kit just in case.
*** I have a great Pyrenees that only eats 3/4 cup of farm fresh raw. She is 4 years old. But.she doesn't drop weight. I've increased walking her. Had her thyroid checked. She has the slowest thyroid ever. Suggestions??
My last dog was a chihuahua cross she was very tiny and her bones were really fine the vet and I decided not to operate and she healed I carried her everywhere a lot and she was in pain relief.
They say they usually do the other one but she never did.
She healed really well sadly she’s passed on at the age of 15.
Is your supplement okay for a dog with chronic acute pancreatitis? My dog is falling apart from early spaying. We did successfully heal her rear left ACL tear, but the right rear leg not responding very well, but I will try your video instructions. With pancreatitis, can she handle the supplements and green tea? She is on a low fat diet using royal canine, awful stuff, low protein, so I add some boiled chicken breast to her dry food.
She has slight episodes of dementia and self imposed, non medical anorexia. Some days she just won’t eat, not sick, just won’t eat. She is on cartprofen for pain, Quercetin for allergies (works great) and gabapetin for severe anxiety when going to the vet or strangers come to the house, like the plumber. Thank you
I have an overweight large breed German Shepard shrpei mix breed his bed is his own couch its pretty low to my floor but still a few feet high so he has always had to jump up onto the couch to lay down and now hes sudden started limping that only is getting alot more noticeable im very heartbroken watching him walk outback to potty right after he plops back down on his treat carpet lays on his side. I have no money at all to help him so thank you so much for this video your an amazing vet for sure!
Green tea and fresh water packed sardines, restrict exercise . Problem solved ! Been there done that got the T -shirt !
What's green tea good for in dogs? Antioxidants? Put in water?
Weight loss since there's restricted movement.@laurenschafer617
@@laurenschafer617 Hi Lauren this information came from an old farmer I know. He told me the tea helps with Inflammation, how true it is I do not know. All I know is it worked for us twice, I have two large Olde English.
You must be a mind reader Doc ! My Golden busted his CCL (left) a year and 4 months ago. And he puts total weight on it now. He’s a big Golden , 96 pounds, lean, but he knows he can’t do certain things 👍🏼 And I know my Buddy, stubborn and at times obstinate. So surgery, even if I could afford it, at 10 , I know he wouldn’t be compliant. 😂 CBD I use with the glucosamine after trying Galliprant for a while. I l love that green tea idea 👍🏼 Thanks Doc !!!
Use the meals as treats throughout the day. They don’t have to eat from a bowl at one time. Portion the food for the day and feed it throughout the day. It doesn’t add to the diet. If they can dig their food from few different toys throughout the day they are more occupied and happier than if they ate twice from a bowl.
I have a 3 year old Rottie his 105 pounds. His vet said surgery is the best way to go. I was quoted 8k and 8 weeks recovery. I don’t want to put my boy through surgery. I’m ordering the knee brace today and get my baby boy back to normal. Thank you for all the tips doc.
Thank you! Wishing your furry friend a swift recovery! ❤️
what brace did you buy?
Hello Doc, great work 🏆
11.5 yr old Corsi, Pickle is 100lbs and not fat. Question on the brace both knees arent great but one is worse than the other. Sound i get the ortho dog brace or go for a dual brace from another maker ( tailwinds). Please, your oppinion is well appreciated and respected ❤❤❤❤b
Is the dmso tropical safe if the dog licks the area that the topical was put on?
Hello thank you for this! I had a Shar Pei who healed on her own. Can you please do a video on how to deal with hip dysplasia and luxating patella in small dogs? I would appreciate it!
My Jack Russell has a knee injury, he is always so active, so I am very sad about this, but he does not seem to be in any pain tho. He is on anti-inflams now. Hopefully he can heel non surgically. Thank you for your advice.
Thank you
My boy has a luxating patella, is that the same thing as a torn ACL?
Oh and after seeing this video will be adding the massage to the knee. Cant hurt.
Our dog had incredible recovery with custom made braces (we went with Posh) as well as good massage, supplements and careful monitoring. She is back to her puppy like self at 8 years old now.
Relieved to hear she's now in good health.
Our senior dog is having problem with stiffness is all of her legs after a surgery she had a few months back. What would cause this?
What about the sprained the patella ?
i make a topical of 1:1:1 castor oil/dmso/colloidal silver
Did this work?
My GSD has a torn ligament in his front left ankle, so unfortunately a brace won’t work for him 🫤. Our vet advised against surgery. Arctic is currently on Adequan injections and Dasequin, and yesterday our vet added Librela. Thankfully Arctic’s not overweight, but unfortunately he loves to run. Keeping him sedentary is going to be difficult, but if it will allow him to heal it will be worth the groans and reproachful looks he’s so good at. Does anyone else have experience with a front ankle ligament tear, and is it possible to recover naturally from this?
What is the name of the DMSO topical and where can I get it
New Roots DMSO is available over-the-counter or on Amazon.
THANK YOU..... 🙏🏼 You are God sent..... ❤😊
I use 99.9% liquid DMSO. I get mine from the DMSO. I mix it with glycerin oil and Cedarwood.
I get mine from The DMSO Store online. I find its a quality product. I use it on myself as well.
As of yesterday my furbaby starting limping or not being able to use her back leg. I checked her for lumps, cuts, bee sting but she seemed ok. What natural ways can I help her feel better? What natural home remedy can I give if she's in pain?

Where can I order one of the braces? This was very informative. Thank you. I use DMSO on myself daily, also use it on my Doxi, but bueve he does need a brace.
What dmso do you use? I would like to have drops like in the video so I can do what he did with the cbd and dmso
My dog has a cold tear. Are there any good joint supplements that would help?
I must be honest my dog tore his ACL almost two months ago. Surgery is scheduled for June 6th. I didn’t take the vet seriously when she said leashed walks only and my dog has been playing like normal but slightly reduced. Mostly walking but some playing with other dogs. Is it too late for me to start conservative management ? 2 months into injury and minimal limited activity.
Do you have any update? Hope your dog is doing well
Our GSD had an ACL injury but we chose the non surgical route.
Thank you!
Would love to know your thoughts on regenerative stem cell therapy. Specifically AniCell biotech?
Wish I knew this 1 1/2 yrs ago
Hi Dr. Jones! Do you have any natural contraception for cats?
When they have a torn ACL does their knee pop when walking? My 8 year old 103.6 lbs lab mix is on a weight loss journey and she has a limp. Back right leg. Doesn’t seem to pain her too much but recently her knee began to pop. Then it stopped popping. 🤔 I did take her to the vet for her annual then took her back for X-rays as her limp got worse, but they didn’t really see anything too concerning. Soft tissue inj, newly weight loss journey walks, etc. Any idea? Praying because we cannot afford surgery at all.
