I almost lost my little girl from liver disease. We had an appointment to have her put down scheduled. I decided it couldn't hurt to make her food at home since we were losing her anyway. The vet had told me there was no way I could provide her with everything she needed with homemade food. I got lowfat turkey and veggies/fruits. I got her a good vitamin and probiotic. Hello Dr. Jones, I was the guy who turned you on to the Joe Tippens saga many years ago, I just checked Phosphatidylserine and it can be used for liver issues in dogs. Thank you for all you do.
How can we be sure "organic" is really organic ? There is so much deception in food labeling nowadays we can't be sure of anything. Food suppliers and growers main concern is higher profits by lowering expenses. Not good for consumers.
The produce at Natural Grocers stores is all carefully sourced. They have locations in many states. Also, local farmer's markets are excellent sources of high quality, consciously grown organic produce. Other health food grocery stores may also have organic that is mindfully grown. Check with the produce manager. But avoid buying produce from large commercial grocery stores. They're the worst and usually carry produce that is coated with toxic pesticides & dangerous resins designed to extend the length of time vegetables & fruits appear to be fresh.
While I respect what you believe, there is no guarantee the information we are told is true unless we actually witness the growing process, and the processing and distribution. Deception in labeling is a fact that is hard to deny.
I make my own dog treats with boneless chicken breast I cut up I cure it with salt I rinse it and then I put it in dehydrator and my dogs love it and they're healthy. I couldn't bear to give my dogs treats from China.
We quit getting any foods made in China, while we hope they have better ideals in preparing good food for themselves and others, the story of Melanin in baby formula and pet foods many years ago gave us a wake-up call. The Melanin in the baby food killed many of their own babies. Garlic from other countries have no roots, their foreign soils not allowed to come to America is a hint if you don’t see ‘USA Grown Produce’ or labeling of America. Other countries don’t often have clean water on hand, so it’s whatever is close by even if it’s sewage water. We however in America need to make sure foods for us and our pets are better nutritionally without harmful additives. They say European McDonlds is better than the American McDonlds ingredient-wise-Thanks Doc! Praying for Tula!
A warning went out, some time ago, regarding treats sold under "Big" names, esp. in the USA, are actually manufactured in China (the country of origin is extremely small & one must search carefully for the declaration)! I was very angry & spread the news to anyone that I could think of as liver disease was the most prevalent side effect!!! A colleague & I volunteered at a large teaching hospital in Beijing, my colleague, a glutton for punishment, also did some lecturing at Beijing University. The appaling additives to HUMAN food were frightening enough (including, inter alia, endocrine "meat") & the government in the U.K. (where we have another home) agreed to give the C.C.P. a (very) short grace period before a widespread warning would be given to tourists to stay clear of "street food" but also a warning that, just because one dined in restaurants, the food would most likely be contaminated also.... Poor, sweet Tula!! NO dog deserves this predation, based on financial gain.
There is so much deception in labeling nowadays that it's hard to trust any of the labels. The drive for higher profits is to blame, along with corruption in the oversight bodies that allow the deception.
OMG ! Thank you ! My little 16 year old mini Chiweenie just passed of CHF . But I had been giving her liver paste as a treat. Her liver had enlarged and so had her heart . I just ordered my new puppy liver training treats . I’ll only give them once a week now . I had a feeling liver treats needed to be given sparingly. So I’ll follow my gut . I appreciate you so much ❤
My pup died from CHF and more specifically DCM and I swear it was from the legumes in the dog food and the treats - she seemed to have an aversion to the foods and treats that contained legumes even though the vets basically implied I was crazy for inquiring. Please beware for the sake of your new pup. Also please check out Smack Pet Food. I only feed my new pup Smack and homemade food now. I wish you many joyful years with your new pup!
Omg Dr Jones! Thank you for this! My pup and I are going through this very same thing! I bought freeze dried beef liver treats this time last year. In April she had a mast cell tumor removed and her teeth cleaned. The bloodwork showed elevated liver enzymes. I stopped giving her canned food and started cooking her food from one of your many videos. In August she had more bloodwork and her liver enzymes were even higher! I started giving her turmeric, milk thistle, dandelion root tea, SAMe and slippery elm. She had repeat BW and her liver enzymes weren’t good but markedly improved. Over the next few months the levels would go up and down and up again. During your Black Friday sale I purchased Ultimate Liver Support, Ultimate Cannabinoid and Ultimate Canine Advanced. I am going to totally stop the beef liver treats. Praying for a healthy bill of health for your Tula and my Carmen 🙏🏼💕🐶
It’s not just treats. AAFCO sets no upper limit for copper in dog foods. On top of that, 15-20 years ago something changed. Most premixes (vitamins/minerals added to dog foods) had contained an inorganic form of copper called copper oxide which has low bioavailability in dogs. AAFCO then recommended a much more bioavailable form of copper - copper sulfate. Since then a lot of premium foods have used even more bioavailable organic forms of copper like copper chelate, further adding to its absorption into our dogs’ livers. It’s slow accumulation is quietly harming, and even killing our dogs. The incidence of copper storage disease (in all breeds) is increasing at a rate that’s causing alarm among veterinarians and dog owners. There was a Cornell study done. Look it up!
Make my own dogfood and treats. Balanced, rotating combination of meat, vegies, and carbs. Treats recipe is so easy: equal ratio of egg to smashed organic banana, a glob of organic peanut butter, mix well adding regular oatmeal to form a loose mixture. Shape into a large flat bar on a cookie sheet ( parchment paper recommended). Bake 375 for 17 min. Cool and cut into portions (2x2), refrigerate. I cut into smaller portions of 1/2" or less squares. Dogs love them.
Tula darling I pray your liver gets lots & lots better. We love you precious girl. Doc you are an awesome pet owner, Tula is blessed to have you my friend ( you are blessed to have each other ). Both of you take care & Jesus Loves You. 😁🤠😎
A friend who raises beef, gave me 2 cow livers and hearts. I freeze dried everything and feed them to my dogs as treats. I don’t gave them big pieces but I guess I still should give less than what I’m doing now.
I had a Bassett hound who died after eating some jerky treats from China , a Walmart brand some years back. I had a beagle at the same time who had liver panel studies that were pretty dramatic elevated. So. I took him off the treats. The vet recommended green beans, carrots, or fresh cooked chicken and fish as treats. After a time I was able to totally normalize his liver tests with home made food and treats. He totally refused to eat the raw green beans and carrots. At the same time a pretty large tumor was found behind his bladder. I tried the N oral chemotherapy for about a week and he absolutely hated it. It upset his stomach and started showing some blood in his stools. So, I stopped the therapy and B put him on comfort care. But after this dietary change, his coat just became clearer and he dramatically felt better. He was fifteen years old at the time. I was told he had about three months. I chose not to put him down as he seemed to be feeling so much better. And was passing bowel and bladder just fine. No evidence of the liver disease or cancer by his behavior. He was sort of revived. And it was a large tumor. Well the three months turned into over three years. He was 18.5 years old when he exhibited pain. I did not want him to suffer so I took him in and we put him to sleep. I did not ever put him on narcotics, etc. but I figured if he was exhibiting that much pain he probably had even more pain than I recognized so I did not want him to suffer. He lived a long happy life after once having been a dog in some sort of scientific research lab I did not want him to know anything any more horrific than that lab probably was.
I am on basset hound number 5 and 6. They are the best breed in the world. Sorry about your sweet hound. I am a widow who lives alone and my two little girls, Raven and Juniper are very precious to me.
Milk thistle is excellent for liver cleanse, but you should also use a binder like bentonite clay and/or activated charcoal to safely remove the toxins from the body. Do some research. It's not too complicated and it makes a big difference in safely & effectively cleansing/detoxifying.
I had no idea about the liver. I guess I was feeding my dog a diet that killed her. You are a blessing. I was going to cook beef liver for my dogs now I'm not. Thank you for this valuable information. ❤❤❤❤🐕🐶🐕🦺
Denamarin turned my dog’s extremely high liver enzymes (all 5 were high) from an unknown cause to NORMAL in 6 weeks. Vet suspected liver cancer but that was 2 1/2 years ago. I give him (He’s 15 now) Denamarin supplements 4-5 days a week and he’s doing well for his age.
For those who don't know what Denamarin is (like me), here's some info from the Better Vet website: "Denamarin is a supplement for dogs and cats containing S-Adenosylmethionine(SAMe) and silybin. These two ingredients help to support the liver which is one of the largest organs in the body. The liver has many essential roles including the production of hormones, proteins, and enzymes. It also detoxifies and removes waste products from the body. If the liver becomes compromised, then your pet can soon start to become very unwell. Denamarin is a nutritional supplement that can be purchased over the counter or online, but most owners will only use it based on their veterinarians’ recommendations." Lots more info about it on their site.
@@NEChristo my dog's liver enzymes were 1000/3000/1000 ALT/ALP and I can't recall the third name. The chart doesn't even go that high. Denamarin made a significant decrease.

I learn so much every time I watch. I need to look at the amounts of copper my girls are getting. And I need to check copper level in chicken livers - I have cooked chicken along with chicken livers, gizzards and hearts. I may need to rethink that. . . To their chicken I add different veggies and quinoa or wheatberries. (They get that from our leftovers). Such valuable information. Thank you so much!❣️ Love to Tula ❤️🐩
I cannot thank you enough for this important information about the high amount of copper in beef liver. I had found a dog treat that is freeze dried liver and has no other ingredients like sugar and carbs. I will now only give treats of chicken and salmon etc. I had no idea and thought the liver treats were healthy. THANK YOU!
So sorry you're going through this with Tula. I went through the same exact thing with my Chihuahua a couple years ago! I brought her in for a dental and had a pre anesthesia blood panel done her liver enzymes where so high they wouldn't perform her dental. I had her on milk thistle for several months it slowly was going down. I started making her food from home using Turkey or grass fed beef with kale, dandelion greens or cabbage, with wild blueberries. I would top her food with natural supplements such as kelp, wheat grass, ground hemp seeds...ect. I had to get a CT scan done but refused the exploratory liver biopsy. She had a seizure apon waking from mild anesthesia from CT scan. We think she has microvascular dysplasia and/or copper toxicity. I slowly got her gaining weight and she is very playful and a happy dog again. I even finally got her dental done back in October, she had to have multiple extractions. She awoke from the anesthesia with no problems this time. I give her dried salmon skin as an occasional treat. She doesn't get much treats and loves her food. Another supplement I've found helpful I sprinkle on her food is MSM look into that if you're not familiar. Hoping you and Tula the best and I love your channel.
My cats love Cat Treats (Greenies - Healthy Indoor variety). My cats get a LOT of treats. I feed them wet food all day but they get treats all day too. They love them & beg so I give in. I pray those aren’t hurting them.
I thought, from your other videos, that the organ meats are best for dogs? Anyway, I give my 3 dachshunds your Krill oil and your Super DBD oil. I will write reviews soon. I also feed FreshPet chicken or beef rolls and throw in a protein roll every now and then. Since following your advice, it’s like someone turned back the clock about 5 years for my little weenies. And, my epileptic boy has been seizure FREE for 7 months! Thank You!
Lots of people mentioning Denamarin. My vet wanted me to put my dog on it, but I read some negative reviews and didn't. Instead, I changed the dog food I was feeding that has less copper and my dog's health has greatly improved.
Years ago I bought several bags of frozen pork dog food then found out after my dog got pancreatitis that it’s very bad for dogs. He ended up at the vet for 3 days to get it out of his system. The vet knew what I was feeding but didn’t say anything until I tried to figure out how he got sick. On the next visit I told the vet pork causes dogs to get sick. When I mentioned it all they said was uh huh. Chewed out the vets and found another. They just don’t tell pet parents so we’re left to find out ourselves which is why this channel is so valuable. Thank you for all you do.
I had a minature schnauzer who presented with nose bleeds and her liver enzymes were off the charts. Vet gave her denamarin ( if I got that right ) and vitimin K...Liver enzymes weren't much better upon check up and I had read the essiace tea may be beneficial... The vet had not heard of it and checked it out and agreed I had nothing to loose to try it. The next check up she was hugely improved. She lived for years after that without any more liver issues. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, but I am convince the essiac tea is what saved her.

Thank you Dr Jones for all your great videos. Too many of us have lost our beloved pets due to bad advice from the registered vets. My beloved dog Baby passed away last winter and always had health issues from commercial pet food. Please know that my dog and my sister's dog reacted very badly to Open Farm and they do use legumes in their food which is known to cause CHF or DCM which my pup died from. However, in the last year of her life we discovered Smack Pet Food made by a Canadian company and for the first time in her life before she died my pup did not have anymore digestive issues eating their food which she had from literally every other brand we tried. If you have not heard of Smack can you please look into it. It has limited organic/free range ingredients and they ship across Canada and it can be easily ordered online. I would love to see you endorse Smack over Open Farm knowing just how badly mine and my sister's pups reacted to Open Farm. Much love and many blessings! Happy new year!

The other hidden thing you may not have considered Doc, is the soil & water in (or supplied to) your area. Copper sulphate is a widely used in every major fungicides and fertilizers in agriculture, particularly in organic farming. While it provides benefits in controlling fungal diseases and promoting plant growth, excessive use in areas can lead to saturation of the soil creating copper toxicity in soils & plants and potentially leech into the water table.

We quit all treats. Our last pup died of lymphoma. He loved Greenies.
Greenies are one of the worst "treats" for dogs/cats. The ingredient list is disgusting 🤢.
Not you but people feed their dogs "junk" because they like it! I don't care if they like it, they are not getting any if momma bear (me) doesn't like the ingredients.
Sorry of the pup that died of lymphoma 💔
They smell toxic
I had to stop giving Greenies to my cat, Renee. She loves them, but they were the only new thing I had given her before she got sick. she is fine now... no more Greenies.
My friends dog almost died on greenies, it turned into slim and blocked her air passage, they rushed her to the vet and he said this was not uncommon !
Hello Dr. Jones, I was the guy who turned you on to the Joe Tippens saga many years ago, I just checked Phosphatidylserine and it can be used for liver issues in dogs. Thank you for all you do.
Ohhh nooo … I’m soo very sorry our sweet Tula - you have the Very Best Dr. Dad to help you through this !
We love you ! 🐾🐾
Note: Brown rice and kale are loaded w pesticides like Roundup so be sure to at least get organic or grow your own.
Easy to grow in the garden too
That brown rice is sky high arsenic levels from spraying.
Hate to tell you, but most of our pharma medicines that the doctors prescribe are from China
If you get frozen chicken don’t add salt. Frozen chicken might contain salt to keeping it from burning. Check your label first.
Don't add salt, it goes into the flesh and you can't wash it out.
Aww, Our Tula. Dad has you close to him. You will heal.. We love you..😔🥺 get plenty of rest.
Which ones!?????😢
Plz, what r the “big” names?
@@irmichaels1955 Google it, I did.
I’m so sorry to hear About Tula, Doctor. Thank you for informing us. Prayers for your Tula and whole family.
Tula is such a good dog. Sits still for her dad, when he does the clip. Well done Tula. ❤
Sweet Tula, your in the safest hands possible, sending positive and healing thoughts on your way
Oh, Tula!! I hope you get well soon!! ❤
OMG !
Praying for a healthy bill of health for your Tula and my Carmen 🙏🏼💕🐶
hope Tula gets better soon and has a long long life..
Prayers for Tula she’s precious
Thank you

Tula darling I pray your liver gets lots & lots better. We love you precious girl. Doc you are an awesome pet owner, Tula is blessed to have you my friend ( you are blessed to have each other ). Both of you take care & Jesus Loves You. 😁🤠😎
I am so sorry. Poor Tula!
A friend who raises beef, gave me 2 cow livers and hearts. I freeze dried everything and feed them to my dogs as treats. I don’t gave them big pieces but I guess I still should give less than what I’m doing now.
@@brendabrenda413 the heart is fine. It’s essentially just a muscle, like other muscle meat. The liver, as an organ, is the one you have to limit.
You can cleanse her liver. You are a rockstar with natural health!
How do you do a liver cleanse?
I only give my dog apples carrots bananas for his snacks.
So sorry about Tula I hope she gets better soon
I love how Tula is wrapped in a blanket by the window convalescing 😌💗 and listening to you!
Denamarin turned my dog’s extremely high liver enzymes (all 5 were high) from an unknown cause to NORMAL in 6 weeks. Vet suspected liver cancer but that was 2 1/2 years ago. I give him
(He’s 15 now) Denamarin supplements 4-5 days a week and he’s doing well for his age.
For those who don't know what Denamarin is (like me), here's some info from the Better Vet website:
"Denamarin is a supplement for dogs and cats containing S-Adenosylmethionine(SAMe) and silybin. These two ingredients help to support the liver which is one of the largest organs in the body. The liver has many essential roles including the production of hormones, proteins, and enzymes. It also detoxifies and removes waste products from the body. If the liver becomes compromised, then your pet can soon start to become very unwell.
Denamarin is a nutritional supplement that can be purchased over the counter or online, but most owners will only use it based on their veterinarians’ recommendations."
Lots more info about it on their site.
@@NEChristo my dog's liver enzymes were 1000/3000/1000 ALT/ALP and I can't recall the third name. The chart doesn't even go that high. Denamarin made a significant decrease.
My 13 1/2 yr old GSP has Cushing’s and that causes high liver enzymes& the Denamarin really helps him too.
@@12thDecember Thank you for the info!
I just started my son's 11 year old cat Jason on this med.He was loosing weight.I thought he was perhaps diabetic.Blood tests showed no diabetes kidney disease or thyroid problems.Elevated liver enzymes. He had taken 8 pills and already feels better.Glad to hear you say it helps.😮
Thank you so much!❣️

Excellent video! One category not mentioned is fish. How healthy is salon jerky and also dried salmon skins?

Thank You!
I thought the organs were good too
I'm sorry to hear about Tula's liver. I love watching her in your videos.
Can you please tell me if you put it in her water or how you gave it to her? Thank you!
@@Jus10Again I bought the tea to brew on line and made it up as detailed. I gave it to her by spoon fulls...thehealingherb.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/all_pets-TEA.pdf

Wow how good is this!!! Thanks Doc btw you're still brilliant!!!!
PS I hope that you will make an updated video on what to feed our dogs daily. What meat, vegetables etc... and how much of each food. I've been feeding my pom-chi cooked beef, pumpkin, flax seed, olive oil, raw garlic, and 1/2 a hard boiled egg in the morning. Evening is a repeat of the first three ingredients. Sometimes I use chicken, sardines or chicken liver or oatmeal. If I had a safe complete recipe, even if it contains many ingredients, I'd do it!!! I no longer feed kibble. Thank you

Great advice love listening to. Pets should not be fed rubbish.

I was going to comment the same thing!!
